  While I have a master's degree, my know-how is written the text, does not not with the computer functions that are new to me.  Whenever I try to my backup job, the default setting of my Media Smart desktop assumes that my files will be sent to some separate, newly purchased drive, drive E.  However, I don't have any drive E!  I bought some DVDs but they keep rejected and cannot be written above.  Seems cheaper solution was to buy a flash drive.  I tried to save, but the menu showed that drive new E or "insert DVD."  What I need to know where/how is insert (front of the back of the Tower?) flash player and the "selection" of this option.  Do I need to buy a special cable to connect this small Lexar Flash drive, 16 GB?

  Hello leathergirl. I checked the model number on the HP website and did not find a system with this model you listed.

  You can see the card reader in the E: drive when you try to back up your data.

  You should be able to navigate to any location (by car) which is able to accept data during backups. I don't recommend that you use the backup but just Windows copy and paste all data, such as documents, pictures, music, etc..

  Unless you use DVD +/-RW disc, the DVD disc can have that data written (burned) to them once. DVD +/-RW can be rewritten several times before becoming defective.

  The Lexar 16 GB Flash drive USB should be inserted into the USB port on the front and then recognized by the operating system and drivers must be installed by the operating system.

  You should be able to copy and paste your data to the Lexar FlashDrive using Windows Explorer. Lexar Flash drive must be placed in the list of drives on the left side of the screen when using Windows Explorer.

  I tried to use the serial number, [ADMIN NOTE: Service tag deleted by the privacy policy], in order to obtain the correct driver from the quick set button, but the pilot was offered, R182249, would not load.  The Dell site also does not list Windows 7 in the drop down menu to the operating system.  R182249 is listed as pilot QuickSet for Vista 32 or 64 bit.

  R182249 is for Vista 64 bit only; It will not work on 32 bit OS.

  R180762 should load on Windows 7 32 bit, it worked fine for me on a D820.

  Does anyone know what driver I can use to install the HP Laserjet 3050 which is located on a network? I have Windows 64 HP.

  It is a known and very easy problem for you to solve.  On the computer to which the printer is connected, go to the properties of the computer and note the name of the computer.  Now, go to the printer properties and note the name of the shared printer sharing.  Now on the xp machine go to printers and faxes and click on add printer, then local printer, next and click on create a new port and in the dropdown choose the port and in the box that appears, type the name of the local computer and share the name of the computer to which the printer is connected using the following syntax : \\computername\sharename where you replace your real names.  Click ok and then next and when you get to the page of decision-makers choose hp on the left, then choose any listed laserjet pcl5 driver (Laserjet 2200 works fine) and then following and you can rename it to LJ3050 and end up and you should be able to print now from the xp computer.  To get the computer name of the machine windows 7, right click on computer and scroll down to properties and left-click.  As for the share name go to devices and printers and right click on the icon of 3050 and scroll the properties first and left click and then click on share and the share name will be there.

  Backup of critical data to removable media NOW.

  Once saved, open and high command prompt. To do this, click on start and type CMD, then right click on the menu entry that appears and choose "Run as Administrator". Click on continue in the UAC prompt. At the prompt, run:

  CHKDSK c: /r

  You will receive a message that the drive cannot be locked, followed by a command prompt to perform this routine when the system is restarted. Type Y and press . Finish and exit command prompt and restart the system. This extensive routine should then run and fix the problems of file system.

  There's a chance is perhaps not able to correct them, in which case you will need to start over with a fresh install after removing and rebuild the volume of the system (which explains why you back up the data before beginning this process because sometimes it is not recoverable to a chkdsk has failed).   You will need a USB cable to connect the camcorder to the computer. You can directly connect the USB cable which you would have received with the camcorder and would appear as a plug-and-play device. If you have the software Camcorder installed on the computer, it will directly load the default drivers when you connect the camcorder.

  If the USB generic drivers are unable to load when you connect the camera, check if the camcorder is compatible with Windows 7.

  Linda, welcome to the forum.

  I suggest try Windows Fax and Scan (Control Panel / devices and printers / Fax) to see if it does what you need.  It allows to send and receive faxes without a fax machine.  When you click fax it will open and give you instructions on how to configure the application.
