Check the main hard drive freezes on Quick Check

I have a Hp G500 series portable Ubuntu 12.04 running. This morning the case slipped and fell. I check and noticed that the housing has been pressed on the same side as the little light that tells you its reading of the HARD drive, and me being paranoid with my computer, I immediately checked on this subject. The operating system starts fine and the memory test in the checked bios but when I went to check the main hard drive in the bios, it conducted an audit of the fast and then frozen at 2%. I hit ESC, but everything is frozen. < br > < br > I myself have already resigned to the fact that I may need to replace the HARD drive again, but if it can be avoided, I prefer not to spend the money.

Hello

Yes, that means you need to replace the hard drive.

  • Formatting the main HARD drive and do a fresh install of the OS

    Hi guys,.

I have a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro running Yosemite (10.10.2). I did not care on the data management since the day that I bought and now it's all over the place and a lot of unwanted files. I have backups time machine the main hard drive and I also backed up all important data on a separate hard drive.

My question is, is it possible that I can erase my entire hard drive and reinstall Yosemite (10.10.2)? The last time I tried to do this, my MacBook connected to the server and installed the latest OS (I guess it was time Cougar 10.8.4).) I don't want to update the OS because my Audio Interface has no drivers for what after 10.10.2.

I don't like on the data loss that I have multiple backups of all the files of important work, as well as backups time machine of the disk set. Thus, formatting everything is completely fine with me.

    Thank you!

The only ways I know to reinstall 10.10.2 are:

    • You have the initial download of 10.10 after Yosemite went out and created a USB this version thumb drive Installer. If so, you can start Setup from USB, delete your Macintosh HD, install 10.10 and after 10.10 is installed, you can download and run the 10.10.2 Combo Update to bring it up to 10.10.2.
    • You have the 10.10.2 download after this version has been published and have created a USB this version thumb drive Installer. If so, you can start Setup from USB, wipe your hard drive Macintosh and install 10.10.2.

If you can't do or any of the foregoing, all what you can do then is start Recovery HD and install the latest version of Yosemite, which is 10.10.5. Even if the HD recovery may appear 10.10.2,"limited you will always get the most recent version of Yosemite. Without either of the above, there is no way that I know how to install an earlier version of Yosemite. Maybe you could ask a local Apple Store to see if they have a solution for 10.10.2.

  • Windows 7 loses the secondary hard drive

This has been a problem, I don't know why I waited this long to ask about it.

My secondary hard drive keep endangered of Windows 7, as if someone unplugged spontaneously, except that it's still there.

This problem can be resolved by restarting just the computer, and it can remain correct for a few minutes, a few hoursor a few days, but it still exists, usually several times a week.

I checked all connections and even swapped the cables. There is nothing wrong with the drive itself, I can put it in another computer without this problem occurring. I also tried to move to an another empty SATA connection on the motherboard without success.

I do not use the drive on a regular basis and bought only so that the steam and the game files that are, (and now the original since I finally broke down and got Mass Effect 3 despite efforts to avoid EA "me too!" steam clone.) were not cluttering up my main hard drive.

But when I decide to take a load off and play games, I like for the reader to be there without needing a reboot, it can so be a little frustrating because it's usually when I am stressed already :)

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forum.

    Disks RAID configured hard two?

Internal hard disks connect to the motherboard of your computer using an IDE or SATA interface interface. Most new hard drives come with an IDE or SATA connection cable, depending on the type of drive.

Install an internal hard disk takes a bit more work, especially if you plan to make the new disk your primary hard disk where you install Windows. Drive hard internal jumpers that you set to configure the main hard drive (master) disk where you install Windows or a secondary (slave) drive where you store programs and files. For the diagnosis of your problem, I suggest trying the following methods and check if the number is reproduced.

    Method 1:

Check if you are able to view the second hard disk (HDD) in Device Manager. If so, try to change drive letter assignments in Windows 7. See the following steps:

    (a) connect to the computer as an administrator.

    (b) click Start, right-click computerand then click Manage.

    (c) click on disk management.

    (d) right click on the volume of the secondary HDD that you want to change and then click change drive letter and paths.

    (e) double click on the secondary drive, click change, click the drive letter that you want to use and then click OK.

    Additional information:
Change, add, or remove a drive letter
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/change-add-or-remove-a-drive-letter

If method 1 does not resolve the problem, go to method 2.

    Method 2:

I suggest you try to check the secondary hard drive to find errors.

    Consult the following link:

Check your hard drive to find errors in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2641432/en-us

Warning: Running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data can be lost.

If method 2 does not work, go to method 3.

    Method 3:

Try to run a scan of the file system (CFS) auditor to check any file corruption:

    1. Go to Start, click all programs and open the Accessories.
    2. Right-click on command prompt in the list programs, and then select run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, click OK, or alternatively click on Yes.
    3. In the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

  • Satellite Pro P70 - Has: 2nd invisible HARD drive - how to initialize the 2nd HARD drive

    I have a P70 - A. Satellite Pro
'Primary' hard disk failed, and has been replaced by the service centre.

Now, only the main hard drive is shown and the Service Center said that I had to 'initialize' the second hard drive to make it visible. They assure me that the hard drive is there, just hidden.

    How can I make visible?
    How do I initialize it?

Usually, you can initialize the disk by DiskManagement.

In disk management, right-click the disk you want to initialize and then click on initialize disk.
In the dialog box initialize the disk, select the disk to initialize.
You can choose to use the master boot record (MBR) or the style of partition GUID partition table (GPT).

Once a disk is initialized, you can create partitions on it.
After you create a partition, you can format the partition to create a filesystem (NTFS).

  • Tecra W50 - cannot start when installing the second hard drive (caddy).

    Hi all
    I have a Tecra W50 PT640A 04103NN1.
When a second hard drive is installed in the Bay of DVD player cell phone will try to boot from the drive bay, not the internal drive
This second drive has no operating system installed and so the fails to start.

If I hit F12 at startup and select HARD drive, while the machine starts correctly. That is starts on the main hard drive.
Change the order of boot in the BIOS makes all the difference; He will always try to boot from the second drive bay drive first.

All known A it works correctly?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Doppelfrog,
I had the same problem with my W50, got my HDD caddy a few days ago.
You have a bit of luck to fix this problem?
I believe that the Bios for this laptop is not developed to serve both drives (like the computer I had that one drive Bay) and it is not possible to prioritize the witch THAT HDD should start first...

    Kind regards

  • After the new HARD drive does not start installation Qosmio G15

I just got this G15 last week and one of the hard drives was bad. Put it in a new Bay 2 and it does not start. I took it back and it starts fine. I even changed the main hard drive Bay 2 HD and it starts up fine with a hard drive. It's something to do with the scores, I think. Any help appreciated.

    Hello
I think that the boot order has been the bad HARD drive in the BIOS.
At the new disk you do not installed any OS, and in my opinion, this is a reason for starting problems.
Simply access the BIOS and change the boot order

In addition to the purchase of a copy of the retail of Windows 7, you can buy a set of HP recovery disks. Information on the command of the regular series of drives can be found HERE. According to the specifications of your HP p6717c desktop, the system initially provided with Windows 7 64 bit.

  • Replacement of main hard drive DV9565EA

Hello. I have a DV9565ea under Vista. The main hard drive broke down and I need to replace. The c: partition is corrupted and lost, the X: recovery partition works very well.

Before spending money on it, I did some research and the recovery on the hard drive partition seems to cause a lot of problems. He needs to be there on the replacement drive, but how he do there? The recovery media do not put the partition recovery on the drive, and without it I will not be able to use the CD recovery anyway.

Can someone please suggest a way to do this? With the right software and a couple of carts to connect two hard drives on another laptop, I can build and copy this partition on a new drive before using the recovery media?

Or do I have to send the laptop to HP service center? IF Yes, how much it will cost to bring the machine to its original state of work?

Or just buy a replacement of HP with everything on all hard drive first?

    Thank you very much.

Is the BIOS drive test or HP Support assistant tell you that the disc is no longer usable? Is the most important question that you must answer.

Why you do not have downloaded and used the utilities in a Vista repair disc?

All he needs to do is identical in terms of 32 or 64-bit. Run chkdsk /f and sfc/scannow might address the issues you have with your current drive (unless HP Support Assistant has informed you that it should be replaced).

If you have another PC or laptop and can connect the laptop go to him as a slave with either a USB / eSATA external drive housing or by connecting it to the inside, then you can copy the partition recovery and clone on the new portable hard drive. Use a cloning utility to do this.

Yes, you can use the recovery without the recovery partition disks.

Your laptop series supports all SATA hard, 9.5 mm (2.5 in.) drives and SSDS. Buy a local or online retailer. It is recommended to keep the capacity of the new drive less 1.5 to (preferably from 500 to 750 GB). The largest drives come with their own installation problems.

So I set up my Pc with an SSD and unplugged my of my motherboard main HARD drive, so that Windows would automatically install on the SSD. It installed and now I connected the main HARD disk but the SSD is always default. I want to have my my main hddd user but my OS on the SSD without the user on the ssd, because it would take too much space. So basically I was my OS to run from the SSD but my user, download, App Data etc... to come from my main SSD, but I don't know how to do it. Help please?

My recommendation would be to open the C:\Users folder, then go to your user folder (probably 'Will' or a good thing?)

Now take the record office and HOLD DOWN SHIFT while drag you it to another player.  When you drop, Windows automatically updates the registry of this folder paths so that all you ever put on your "office" (office of real desktop wallpaper) is actually stored on the other drive.

Do the same for your Documents, downloads, photos, videos and other "Shell folders".

You can indicate that a folder is a special folder redirection-able by clicking Properties.  If you see the 'Location' tab, then this folder can be redirected to another drive.  Almost everything in your user account folder is like this (by dragging while now shift is the quick way to update this tab 'Location' to redirect the folder to another drive).

It is technically possible to literally redirect the entire folder 'Will' for example, but I do not recommend it for a typical user account unless you have some super specific needs, and redirect folders shell as this will get the huge majority of data written in your user folder.
