  Hi guys! I have problem with recovery of esx 4.1 upd 3 Server. To my shame, I deleted /lib64/libc-2.5.so--> link lib64/libc.so.6, then restarted a server. So now, esx makes a core dump and does not start (Kernel panic not syncing kill init). I thought it was a piece of cake to boot from livecd linux, mount the partition root of esx and recreate the link but it was not as simple as that. In rescue of the livecd mode (redhat 5), I can only mount/boot partition for esx. Command fdisk-l shows a single device (/ dev/sda1) with linux fs and other devices sdaX with extended and uknown fs types and mount error on these devices. Mount/dev/sda1 gives me a partition/boot of esx. On another host esx 4.1 with a similar configuration command df shows partition/Boot resides on the device/dev/sdd1 while other partitions as root/var/log are located on/dev/sdeX devices. After having investigated further, I found that/dev/sdd is a local protected by car while/dev/sde does not match any network SAN or raid connected locally to the readers. Tomorrow I will try to boot from the esx installation media and see if there is something simillar to rescue mode and try and do something here. I have no idea what to do if it won't help. In the hope to hear a good advise to you guys!

  Do a new installation on a disk SAN and after booting from it, I was able to solve the problem with the link. Old server is running. But after all I agree with you markdjones82 - it would be faster and easier to reinstall from scratch.

  One thing to know is that a snapshot in terms of "VMware" is not a full copy of the disc, it is a file that contains the changes to the drive block since the snapshot was created. Snapshots of assistance in making backups of virtual machines running, but allowing the basic disk to copy while the data is written to the snapshot. Then, you're the snapshot.

  So how do DR/BC is having a good backup strategy using one of the available backup/replication tools.

  There are:

  Veeam Backup w/replication

  Vizioncore vRanger backup and vReplicator for replication connection

  EsXpress doctorate for backup (restorations of use for replication)

  There is also some SRM if your San is supported, etc.

  So there are a lot of options the question is how 'real time' you need the data. You could also use the replication SAN, Double Take, etc.

  Except that I did not drive...

  How to solve:

  Can I buy a recovery disk?
  The COA is genuine is to the same pc.
  (it is not transfer to another pc)
  Or
  How can I check the recovery partition on the hard drive from the bios? Maybe recover...

  I'm certainly not a pro tech, I may be when done... lol
  HP pc for 5 years without problems,
  I had to spend for more speed and go...
  for a refurb... not so much fun.

  I'm not sure what a certificate of authenticity of the situation - I think nothing.  What you need is a product key (an alphanumeric code of 25 digits in 5 groups of 5 digits separated by dashes), usually affixed to the botton, back, or on the sides of the computer - unless you are fairly well watered and the disc will be useless since you will not be able to activate.  As well as the product key you need an Installation of Vista genuine disc (any disk of the same size of the ILO will be - maybe you know someone you can borrow an of) or an OEM Installation disc or a recovery disc from the manufacturer (at a small fee) or maybe there is a Partition of Recvery (depending on the manufacturer and the make and model of computer) - you can ask when you contact the manufactrer and their ask how to access - it will be a keyboard command any (not a BIOS change) assuming that it was not erased when they cleaned the disc.

  There is no download legal, free to a Vista installation disc, and you cannot use the recovery disk from another computer, because pilots and other information will be wrong and it will mess up of the facility and maybe even cause damage.

  I was installing a program Windows in what I thought was a lot of hard - a total of 75 GB disk space - when suddenly, I discovered that my Windows space was approximately 55 concerts unless I assigned in Fusion.  In my computer, I right click on the C drive, and the displayed graph said how I had a total capacity on the C drive of 19.9 Go with 2.6 GB free.  Still in my VM settings it says that I have awarded 75 GB of space for Windows.   How to explain this huge discrepancy?  The calculation has only 320 gig drive.  What - is - it possible to - move my WIndows partition on a hard drive external?

  By using the software OpenManage Server Administrator - under storage, Controller/PERC, virtual disks.  What operating system do you use?

  You might also be able to deduce the configuration view of your RAID controller (must be under SCSI/RAID controllers in Device Manager), knowing the number of physical disks installed and knowing the number and size of "disks" that Windows is currently using in storage management.

  I have a MBP with OS x 10.6.8.  I'm under VMWare Fusion 2.0.8.  I used to use it for work, but now can log on my work computer at home and have not run the Windows partition in over a year.  My HD had inflated and has only 7 GB free.  I want to delete the partition in VMWare so that OS x can use this 15 GB.

  Hi everyone, I intend to build my VMware vsphere lab to try/learn the advanced features like VMDirectPath, fault tolerance, DPM, VMA and vCloud.

  initially I thought to buy a laptop computer with 16 GB of RAM to build my lab inside the laptop. But after some research, I got to know FT and other features will not work with nested virtualization.

  So now I am planning to buy 2 desktop computers because the server systems produce too much noise.

  Here, I'm afraid the CPU compatibility. I understand only a few processors support VT - d, FT and vma. I checked the compatibility in VMware site but VMware has not provided the compatibility of the desktop processors.

  If someone already tried successful building home lab with FT and other functions on desktop systems, please advise me.

  these processors are available in the market with affordable prices. If the processor is finalized, I choose compatible main board/NIC/SAS... etc.

  I would look through the forums of vm-support Web site HCL and a best guide on unsupported hardware. Processors should not be the big problem with those stated, but the components on the motherboard will likely need replacement.

• How to check the size of/var/tmp local partition in esxi5

  I'm trying to run command vm-support with / tmp to empty the log in / tmp, but unable to do so because of the issue of space in /tmp/...when I run the df-h command, I can see that the local data store is to have 10 GB of free space but I can't see/tmp/var partition size seperatety. Please see attached wink. Could u pl I want to know how to check the size/var/tmp.

     2. In the essbase.cfg folder on the server computer, set CALCLOCKBLOCKHIGH to 500.

  Yes it must *.

  Make sure that you have "migrated settings cache of database as well. If the cache is too small, you will have similar problems.

  As I could not download and watch a video show, I was told to check the version of windows and the number of bits. I remembered the upgrade to version 10 of Windows when you are prompted before. However, when I clicked on 'This PC' to check the C:\ drive, it shows Windows8_OS (C :).  It is quite misleading.  Can I know how to check & confirm the correct version of Windows and where to find the number of bits as well?

  Looks like you're on windows 10, but after the upgrade is not changed the label of the hard drive.

  Type winver in the run box-press windows key + R box simultaneously.

  If the Windows 10 Build 10XXX State, you're on windows 10.

  Simply right click C: / and select Rename and rename the drive in Windows10OS or what you want.
