Cisco ASA 8.4 Active Failover / standby with anyconnect local CA

I hope you do well! I ve got a question, hope you can help me. I ve got an ASA 5550 with version 8.4 (6), it s focusing anyconnect VPN remote access who authenticate through certificate locally generated in ASA. We´ve got an another 5550 with the same hardware and same version, and we focus on the configuration of the failover. I ve heard of network other than it s engineers may not failover configuration when the ASA doing this local. Then I ve read full failover for version 8.4 operating guide (6) and I didn t find any restrictions on the local failover and CA working together. I m tests over the next weekend, but I would like to know from your experience, if I'm having problems on VPN connections or failover configuration.
Please, do not hesitate to ask as much as necessary information. All comment and documentation will be appreciated.

ASA in transparent mode with LAN base active failover / standby?
Is it possible to have a pair of the SAA in transparent mode with LAN-based failover active / standby? I configured the portion of failover and then configured the transparent mode and it erased my failover configuration. Is this supported configuration, and if so are there at - it an example?

Yes. It is possible to have a pair of ASA in transparent mode with LAN-based failover active/Standy. You must perform the configuration of failover after conversion of the appliance in transparent mode.
I saw an example on the cisco site, but I'll give you an example of one of the projects I run. Infact its very easy to configure failover in transparent mode. Less work.

Cisco ASA 5510 VPN Site to Site with Sonicwall
I am trying to configure a tunnel between a Cisco ASA 5510 VPN (Version 8.2 (2)) and TZ200 Sonicwall. I rose tunnel and go and I am able to ping the internal IP address of Cisco ASA of the Sonicwall LAN but nothing work. When I try to ping a host behind the Cisco ASA of the Sonicwall LAN I get the following message "rules asymmetrical NAT matched for flows forward and backward; Connection for tcp src outside:10.20.10.x/xxxx dst inside:10.20.2.x/xxxx refused due to failure of reverse path of NAT"on the SAA
Googling the error above shows the problems with version 8.3 or later that resembled the nat commands have been changed SAA, train is still on 8.2 but I another common question does not add an exemption of NAT I have double-triple checked that I did add an exception rule of NAT of the hosts on the network from cisco for the guests of the Sonicwall network. Looks like I hit a road block so any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Yes, you will need to either configure split tunnel so that internet traffic goes out through your local Internet service provider, GOLD / directed by configuration current you are tunneling all traffic (internet traffic Inc.) to the ASA, then you will need to create NAT for internet traffic.
To set up a tunnel from split:

The problem:
Our technology smart tunnel doesn't seem to be forward traffic to our new customer from the view. I wonder what kind of configuration changes must be considered to enable such a connection. The error returned when searching for the host name goes in the direction of the hostname not found. Error finding of intellectual property is related to the time-out.
Background information and specifications:
We are in the process of upgrading our servers from 5.2 to 6.2 connection. As part of the upgrade, we want to improve our customers for the Horizon to use version 3.5.0. To make it easier on vendors and remote computers we prefer also to our Horizon View Client with ThinApp 4.7.3 ThinApp. We currently have a Cisco ASA, supporting a SSL VPN portal with "Smart Tunnel" technology. The ASA is currently on firmware 9.3.3 in production, but we have access to version 9.5 in test.
Preferred connection scenario:
User > PC > VMware View Client (ThinApp would be) > Cisco ASA Smart Tunnel > view connection server > Virtual Office

It seems the ThinApp Client version view is only launching VMware - view.exe.

There is something else to consider when the view client configuration ThinApp or thickness to work with Cisco SSL VPN Portal and the Smart Tunnel? We should have ports configured in the client in connection with the same view Firewall works with SSL VPN Portal port redirector functionality.
We have not been able to find any documentation on how to properly configure the smart to work with the New Horizon 3.5.2 client Tunnel. A ticket of troubleshooting with Cisco suggests that the Smart Tunnel feature still perhaps not compatible with this new Horizon (thin or thick) client. Currently, we are looking at other options because it is not not clear whether Cisco will be able to get us the confirmation or offer a solution without delay of our project to upgrade. Maybe stick to the previous VMware View Client version 5.4.0 which we know work with Smart Tunnel in some situations and with the redirector port for others.

This error on the rescue unit could be associated with a problem of memory on the device or memory full on the device.
IF these options are not confirmed, we can consider that your devices version is bug hit.

Hi all
We have a large ongoing project in which we implement a Firewall / VPN service to the customers to provide VPN connections back to a single VPN server. We have about 1,000 users but only run about 200-250 concurrent sessions at any time and the IP Sec and SSL will be fine. As part of our evaluation and the construction phase we need to firstly consider hardware and Cisco is an obviuos because we have the expertise in house. However, I consider that for this client, it would be preferable to provide a solution that will scale that their subscribers grow and therefore my opinion is the ASA 5510 would be a good starting point and we can improve if their subscriber base grows. There are also run active failover / standby. However, the licenceing issues are a little confussing to say the least and so would like a second opinion from someone on this forum which has some recent experience of a similar build and install. Hardware and software specifications for this build are important, so any suggestions in this regard would be also welcome. We considered all connect premium, but this can be expensive looking at 250 concurrent sessions. These are fundamental questions.
1. what would be the best material to offer to this customer to get them started?
2. with Anyconnect is the example from the sessions simultaneous or registered user accounts or in other words we would have 1,000 accounts of users with 250 concurrent connections?
3. is there a better way to configure the VPN simultaneous 250 with about 1000 users?
Any help would be as always greatly appreciated.

The 5510 is a legacy that should not be bought and more like the first firewall. And the concurrent users are also too low. You should look into the 5525-X. This model supports VPN connections simultaneous 750. The next smallest model, the 5515-X only supports 250 simultaneous sessions.

Yes, concurrent sessions are what count.

You must decide if you really need VPN without client. If your users could all use a complete tunnel (AnyConnect) client, then just buy the AnyConnect Essentials license which is pretty cheap.

OK, so the ASA is configured with AAA, more specifically from GANYMEDE + more, you stated that the AAA server continues to show up as down and upward, then again. I think that it is the cause of your problem. When you try to run a command, the ASA try first check on the AAA server and after it times out it refers to the secondary database, which is the local database in your case. So eliminate it that do one of the following:
1. Remove GANYMEDE + Associates configs and rely on the local database for authentication and authorization
2. understand why GANYMEDE server + is not available / bounce

IKE Dead Peer Detection between Cisco ASA and Cisco PIX
I have a network environment in Star with about 30 offices of satellite remote using VPN Site to Site connectivity. The majority of remote satellite offices have the features of Cisco PIX 501 running PIX Version 6.3. The hub office runs a version 8.2 (1) Cisco ASA.
I configured Dead Peer Detection on the Cisco ASA device at the office hub with the default settings of the following-
Confidence interval - 10 seconds
Retry interval - 2 seconds
I think I'm right assuming that raises are limited to 3 before the tunnel is completely demolished. Basically, the problem that I am facing is with several remote satellite offices. What seems to be the case, the tunnel between the remote offices and the hub is demolished (probably because of the length of IKE, always 86400 seconds) and the tunnel then fails to renegotiate unless traffic is physically forced from the hub office. The tunnel NOT to renegotiate after satellite office, ONLY the end of the hub; so that means sending traffic to the satellite when the VPN tunnel is out of service, not to renegotiate the tunnel. The Hub office is a colo and therefore traffic rarely comes to that end, the tunnel remains so down until manual intervention occurs and the ICMP traffic is forced into the tunnel.
Should the KeepAlive and retry interval settings corresponds to both ends, for example if the two devices be configured for DPD?
What are the potential pitfalls to the extension of the life of IKE, and this will help or even hinder the problem?

I think that the two DPD settings must match on both ends, if these do not match then problems like yours might arise which seems to happen here, is that one end shows a tunnel down, but the other end may not detect it down, we could have to watch debugs, or record two ends to see if this is the case , setting in the meantime ike DPD for same timers could hetlp on.
In regard to the increase in the life expectancy of IKE, well you just need to be aware that this could allow keys to be discovered since these are not renegotiated unless the tunnel is down on the level of IKE. Other than that I don't see why this would affect you.

I can't find examples of this type of configuration, I'm not even sure it's possible

Failover on Cisco ASA 5505 with EasyVPN

I've implemented a customer EasyVPN with a Cisco ASA 5505 and I am trying to configure the failover but I get this message:
"Failover cannot be configured as Cisco Easy VPN remote is activated."
However, I have seen in the link below, this dynamic rollover is compatible with the easy standard (and not with improved but I don't think I use easyVPN improved).

Licenses, IPS on pair of Cisco ASA 5510 active / standby
I have two ASA 5510 devices in Active mode / standby. I think of buying both used IPS modules and their installation. My question is, me 1 or 2 licenses IPS that requires? We are on 8.4 right now, and I see 8.3 Cisco changed license to c/o to where you need only one license, not two. This is true for any way VPN licenses, so I was wondering if the same applies to licenses IPS.
In addition, the unique licensing model will as much as only requiring a base for the pair a/s license too? Or is the base license, something that you must have two pair a/s?
Failover doesn't f, you have only one module in the ASA elementary school. You must have two modules. But it is fine if you do not have a subscription license for your secondary IPS (at least for the system).

IPS modules in the ASA config for active/passive failover

We have two ASA in a situation of active/passive failover each with a module AIP-SSM-20 IPS.
These modules are intended to synchronize their configs like the ASA do? Alternatively, they each have a separate entity and each need to be configured separately?

Each will have their own IP address, and each must be configured separately.
They will not communicate with each other and share no configuration.
You will need to make sure the config is changed in one of the other.
