Clarified system restore query

Sorry, the latter went unchecked by mistake.

I meant made in Win7 NOT system restore delete old restore points. i.e. it do a restore to an earlier time, but leave the list intact?

And re Eudora, I discovered a program called Presto Transfer claiming to solve the problem of moving it from one computer to the other.

dclair

Hi dclair

You have Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating system installed on the computer?

Yes, restore to an earlier point will restore the computer at this point, but the list will remain intact with all the points of this restoration on the dates. If the restore does not remove the list of currently present restore on the computer points.

Also the restore points are saved until the system restore reserves HDD space is filled. As new restore points are created, old ones are deleted. If you disable the Protection System (the feature that creates restore points) on a disk, all restore points are deleted from this drive. When you turn System Protection, new restore points are created.

  • Error: "the system restore is disabled by group policy" when he tried to use the system restore

    Original title: group policy

When I try to use the system restore, I get "system restore is disabled by group policy. How can I fix this problem?

    Hi bluelilly,

    1. is your computer connected to a domain?
    2. don't you make changes before the show?

This occurs if the Configuration policy to disable is enabled on your system, either by using Group Policy or through the registry editor. For stand-alone systems Windows Vista, follow these steps:
Step 1: Using the Group Policy Editor. If your edition of Windows Vista includes the Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) snap-in, follow these steps:
    a. Click Start, type gpedit.msc and press ENTER.
    b. go to the following branch: Computer Configuration | Administrative templates | System | System restore
    c. double click on disable the Configuration and set it to not configured.
Note: If the above setting is already set to not configured, set it to "Enabled" and click on apply. Return back the setting to not configured, then click on apply, OK.
    d. Quit Group Policy Editor.
    e. restart the computer and check the difference.

Step 2: Using the registry editor
    a. Click Start, type regedit.exe and press ENTER
    b. navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-Software-policies-Microsoft-Windows NT------SystemRestore
    (c) in the right pane, delete the value named DisableConfig.
    d. Quit Registry Editor.
    e. restart the computer and check the difference.

Very important: Modifying the registry incorrectly will cause serious damage to the computer. Back up the registry until you make changes.

  • create a system restore point cases printers stop working

I have two HP printers (Laserjet 1536dnf & Officejet 6500) installed on a PC running Win7 64-bit.  Until January, they worked very well after Win7 updates (restore point created automatically).  Since then, any time a system restore point is created I lose access to these two printers.  By clicking on "Devices and Printers" opens the window and the progress bar goes to infinity with nothing found and the process must be closed with the Task Manager.  Printers are not accessible, but no error message appears.  Any reference to a printer causes this particular process hang and must be closed with the Task Manager.

Both printers are wired Ethernet to Cisco E3000 router and are set up to be shared in the same home group.  Oddly, a second PC in Win7 that is connected via Ethernet to the same router, using the same two printers can create the system restore points without any impact on these two printers.  The main difference between the two is that the PC works an AMD based system, while the affected uses a system based on Intel.

Printer is restored when I restore the system since early January restore point.  Any later restore point using simply reproduces the problem. I have searched the FAQ and forum but can find no cure.

    Hi Amundarken,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community and thank you for the opportunity to help you.

After the description of the problem, looks like HP printers (Laserjet 1536dnf & Officejet 6500) stop working after you have created a restore point system.

To help you to propose measures to solve the problem, I would appreciate if you could answer the following question:

You receive an error message or error code?

Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

Method 1: You can check the status of the Printer Spooler service after you have created a restore point system, if the Printer Spooler service is not started and then start the service and check:

A print spooler is software that temporarily stores the disk printing hard or in memory until the printer is ready to print. If you were expecting an abnormally long time to print a document, or if you see an error message about the print spooler, Spooler subsystem or spooler resources, you might need to change and then restart the print spooler service on your computer.

To do this, we recommend that you save your work and restart the computer to restart the print spooler service. If you do not want to restart the computer, try these steps.

To change or restart the print spooler service, you must be logged on as administrator to perform these steps:

    a. click Startand then click Control Panel.

    b. double-click Administrative Toolsand then click Services.

    c. double-click the Printer Spooler service, and then change the startup type to Automatic. This option sets the spooler service starts automatically when you restart the computer.

    d. If you want to start the spooler service immediately, click Start in the area of The State of the Service .

Method 2: You can update the printer drivers and check if it works.

See the following articles from Microsoft for more information on the update of drivers:

  • Image of Windows 7 on ssd smaller system restore

Hi all.  I just wanted to share this guide on how to install windows 7 on an external drive to backup and restore the system image onto a smaller SSD using nothing but free tools and 1 non-Microsoft tool.

    Necessary.

    CD Recorvery Windows 7 system.
GParted Live CD - available on sourceforge
First backup the existing drive, using Windows Image backup system.  It's pretty basic, and here are the instructions:
Now that you have the shrink backup the Windows installation partition (partition system reserved + free space must enter target SSD).
Shrink the Partition of Windows 7 to fit the target SSD:
Do right click my computer > select Manage > click Disk Management > click with the right button on the windows installation partition (usually c :)) > select "Shrink" > select the maximum allowed by Windows.)  When you're done check to see if this partition with the system reserved partition fits under the size of the target SSD.  In my case I tried to use the Windows disk management, but it would not diminish beyond 100 GB even if there was enough free space, and that was bigger than the 64 GB ssd drive that I wanted to restore.
Shrink Windows 7 Partition with GParted Live CD if above fails:
Restart the computer with the Live CD.
Simply press 'Enter' on all the guests to select the default Options or, if necessary, change options to work with your hardware.  The Live CD will start with GParted already running.  Right click on the partition of Windows Setup.  Select "Resize/move" > click on the right edge of the partition and move it to the left to reduce it until it fits the target SSD. Once you have set the desired size, click "resize/move". Click on the apply"" button. Click on the button "apply" once more to the warning screen pop.  Wait while the partition was resized.  In my case, it was about 12 minutes.  You should see '0 operations pending' on the bottom of the Gparted application window.  Once he finished, double-click on the "Exit" icon on the desktop.  Select "Reboot".  Remove the Live CD, and press "enter."
When restarting you will probably see a Windows 7 disk management screen.  Let him complete the audit.
Once restarted in the Windows 7 computer desktop with the desired partition size run another Image of the backup system this time with the desired partition size.  Place the Windows 7 System Image Restore CD and stop.  Unplug the power cord at the back of the computer.
Install the SSD.  Reboot with the Windows System Image Restore CD.
    Then follow these steps.
Unfortunately, you will probably get a message stating that the image of the system cannot find a suitable disc.  In this case you will be lifted to some more recovery options which is the command prompt.  Launch the command prompt.  In the command line type in
    Diskpart.
    At the diskpart prompt, type
    Select disk = 0
    type
    retail disk
to ensure that it is the SSD you selected.

    Now type
    clean
    then
    output
I had to reboot the computer, because I couldn't always restore the system image without rebooting.

Now repeat the procedure of restore system image.  In case you forgot:
At this point, the image windows 7 system restore worked!
After the reboot of Windows 7 on SSD turn trim if supported.
Click on the Start button and type
    cmd
Right-click the CMD and run as administrator
Check if the Trim is turned

    Hello

    Thanks for sharing the information.

It would be useful to others to create the installation windows 7 on an external drive to backup and restore the system image onto a smaller SSD drive.

  • System Restore error: 0 x 80070571

    Separated from this thread.

Judge that the method and the computer has stagnated at 28% more than an hour until I hard out there. Is there another way to fix the disc? The Base filtering engine does not also some other dependent process making it useless for example Firewall, internet connectivity

    Hi George,.

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

According to the query, you get the system restore error: 0 x 80070571 when you tried to perform a check disk (Chkdsk).

To help solve your problem better, could you give us the following information?

    1. Why you try to run Chkdsk? Are you facing performance issues?
    2. You get an error code when running Chkdsk?

This is perhaps due to the corruption of user account or corrupt file system or any software of third-party programs.

I suggest to create a new user account and then try to perform a system restore.

See the following Microsoft support article to create a new user account and check if it helps.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/create-user-account#create-user-account=Windows-8

It would also be useful if you we post the logs in Event Viewer to analyze and solve the problem better.

Try these steps and let us know the results for assistance.

    Thank you

  • System Restore gets stuck - Windows 8

Original title: problem restoring Windows 8.

I tried to restore my windows 8 on a laptop computer at an earlier date, but after more than a day, the process is still ongoing. I think that the restoting process is stuck, what can I do to solve the problem? Thanks in advance.

    Hello Gianluca,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forum.

System restore usually takes 15 to 30 minutes depending on the size of the data has changed since the date of the restoration up to the date where the restoration is underway.

    Let me ask you:

    1. You receive an error message?
    2. The computer freezes?
    3. You did it recently no specific changes in the computer?

I would suggest trying the following steps and check.

Step 1: Restore the system through safe mode

Refer to: startup parameters of Windows (including safe mode)

Once the computer starts in safe mode, and then run system restore and check if the problem still persists.

To restore your PC to an earlier point in time

    1. Enter in the right edge of the screen and then click on Search.
(If you use a mouse, point to the upper right of the screen, move the pointer of the mouse down and then click find.)

    2. Enter the Control Panel in the start search box and press or click on Control Panel.

    3. Enter the collection in the control panel search box, and then tap or click recovery.

    4. Press or click open system restore, and then follow the instructions.

If the issue still persists / block, perform a hard reset. Press the power button for about 10 seconds. Once the computer shuts down, stop and try again and follow the steps.

Step 2: Follow the steps mentioned below and perform a restore of the system from the Windows recovery environment. Check if it helps.

    (a) Insert the disc to install 8 Windows; Click on repair your system.

    (b) click the Advanced Boot Options.

    (c) click Start Windows settings.

    (d) If you are prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.

((e) (f) If you are using the Windows installation disc, click on system restore.

    (f) click about to restore during which the system worked very well.

    (g) click on apply, click OK.

Hope the information is useful. Let us know the result, we will be happy to help you further.

    Thank you.

Please help I just did a system restore and after it restored all my 50 or so bookmarks gone how do their back thanks to all in advance

It is possible that the obtained profiles.ini restored an earlier version and you have switched to another profile or new profile has been created.
If you had reset Firefox after the date of this restore then point it probably happened.

    See:

  • I need to recover the Favorites after a Windows system restore.

After doing a restore of windows on Windows 7 Pro, I have only the default bookmarks on my view your bookmarks"" button. In a backup of the system a few months ago, I got the files and folder Appdata Firefox Profiles. I tried to replace the new profiles of 'empty' to the former, but without success - I still have only the default bookmarks. Thanks in advance for your help.

Note what to do a system restore will probably replace the profiles.ini file and all the profiles that are made after the date of restoration will not appear or be accessible through the Profile Manager.

If profiles are still there, then you can use the Profile Manager to create a new profile and choose the location of an existing profile (choose a folder) of re - save profile.
