Cleaning hard drive

I have a HP PAVILION a1203w, windows xp, approx.6 years... When I bought it, I downloaded all the recovery disk... I want to erase everything on the hard drive and reload it as if it was new... in all places I can go to get instructions on how to do it?
Thanks Walsh

I have a packard Bell desktop computer that was originally installed Windows Vista. When I bought it, I downloaded and created via the site of Packard Bell recovery disks. But last year, when I tried to recover my computer with disks that I realized my recovery disks did not work properly and I couldn't get my computer back. So I decided to buy Windows 7 instead of buying Packard Bell recovery disks. I was using my computer with Windows 7 until today. Today when I tried to wipe my hard drive and reinstall the software I could not install them because the error message said that there was not enough memory in the assigned disk drive. How can I clean all old Windows folders and other files in order to empty the hard drive and reinstall Windows 7 software?

I have an old XP computer I have replaced.  I want to erase any personal information on this subject.  I deleted the files in my library, how to clear all programs except the OS, I used the other files needed for the operation of the computer?  Thank you

It is difficult, if not impossible, to be certain that you have removed all personal information, if you only selectively delete some files (like, for example, using the tool disk cleanup).

You can safely and completely clean the drive using Darik Boot and Nuke (DBAN).  This, of course, will also remove Windows so anyone who you give the computer will have to reinstall Windows or any other operating system.

  • Reinstall XP OEM on Clean Hard Drive, but don't have installation disk

I have a Dell Inspiron and it's just a user.  There is no bling for this laptop; built in ' 05, 40 GB HDD, 1 GB of RAM.  Supplied with Windows XP Home Edition on it.  I still have the product key.  However, I don't have a installation CD of any or anything of that nature.

I recently wiped the HDD using DBAN, and I want to reinstall XP on it, using the existing product key.  This seems to be a trivial task, but I can't find anything on the net resettlement on from scratch.   I will be very put out if I did know that I have to buy a copy of the operating system.  That doesn't seem right, because I took the operating system out, I should be able to put it back on as if nothing happened.
Basicall I'm looking for is a copy of the operating system to install on the HARD disk, where I can then put in the old key.

you tell me, that even though I HAD a version of legitimate XP, when the circumstances where should, say the hard drive died and was unreadable and had to be replaced, it is impossible to reinstall an OS what I already purchased?

No, you went just about this the wrong way.

The seller of a computer came with Windows pre-installed is bound by the terms of its license with Microsoft to provide to the end user (i.e. you) with a way to restore the operating system.  A 'direct' (like Dell) OEM, it can do so by providing a restore partition hidden on the disc (which you wiped out if you said DBAN to wipe the entire drive) and/or a mechanism to restore on CD (which you apparently do not have).  The latter can be a 'true' Windows XP CD or a sort of 'restore' CD particularized.

Since you have a Dell, you should get in touch with Dell support, who can (or cannot, given the fact that XP is no longer for sale) be able to provide with restoration of the media for a fee.  You will need the printer Dell 'service number', which should be on a label stuck to your computer.  See, for example, http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/en/details?c=us&l=en&s=hied

  • all 'new' professional loading Windows on a clean hard drive, to halfway through receipt message that program could not establish an internet connection because file: icfgnt.dll is not found...?

I clicked on OK and the program continued to load, but of course, I was unable to make any connection with the outside world. I also tried to plug my modem DSL directly to nothing does not. Since this is a new copy of windows professional, I don't know why it can not find the file... Please HELP! Thank you...

Do not install an operating system is usually caused by (in order of probability):

    1. you are trying to install with other devices connected to the computer. Unplug them before trying to make an installation.

    2. "" "" defective installation media. "" Check the CD/DVD installation for scratches, tasks. Try another machine.

    3. bad optical drive. Test with another CD/DVD bootable or Exchange for a well-known work.

    4. faulty RAM. Test with Memtest86 + www.memtest.org . You will download the .iso image file to create a bootable cd. Burn the file with the third party burning software *-as an image, not in the form of data. Then start with the media that you did (you may need to change the boot priority in your BIOS so that the optical drive is the first boot device). The test runs immediately. The test run for an hour or two--at least that errors are seen immediately. If you get any errors, replace the RAM.

A good free choice ImgBurn comes from www.imgburn.com .

    5. bad hard drive. Test with a diagnostic utility downloaded from site of the disc mftr... You create a bootable CD with the files you download. Burn the file with a third-party burning software - image, not in the form of data. Boot with the CD that you have done and do a full test of the reader. The physical tests fail, replace it.

  • Can I clean the hard drive before installing Windows Dell & as I've heard doesent clean properly. And how to clean the drive of DART?

Can I clean hard drive before installing Dell Windows 7 / as I have heard it is not clean everything properly. So how to clean the hard drive?

Or can I restore my office before you install Windows 7 in the first place when it's new?

    Kind regards

    Bert Pooler

Yes, you can restore the State as it was when new...

Your computer is equipped with a recovery instead of disk partition...

This is how the recovery partition is accessible to most popular brands...

For Dell, press CTRL + F11 directly after switching on the device

You may need to try several times to get everything above to work. If after several attempts, you have no chance, or the machine indicates that there is no recovery partition, your only option is to contact the computer manufacturer and ask for the model recovery discs...

After the reset, you should get all the updates from Windows Update EXCEPT for hardware devices. Then, you install a good antivirus. ONLY AFTER you have done this, if you replace the stuff of backups or install anything else.

  • How can I boot from the Windows 7 Installation CD so that I can reformat the hard drive before reinstalling Windows 7?

How can I boot from the Windows 7 Installation CD so that I can reformat the hard drive before reinstalling Windows 7?  I have already reinstalled Windows 7 from the CD, but that has not solved my problems.  When I put the factory CD in my CD player, it won't always boot from the CD.  When I put my Windows 7 Ultimate CD in the CD drive, it doesn't always start from the CD.         I realize that the reformatting is not always necessary, but I caught a few viruses (despite anti-virus running) and I need to start with a clean hard drive.

You must go into the BIOS and change the boot on CD order
    first push.

How to get into your BIOS? It is not dependent on Windows, but on what he
motherboard/BIOS card that you have. In fact, you need access to the
BIOS before Windows begins to start. A common method is to press
the key delete when you turn on first, but this is not necessarily true
    for your computer. Watch the display carefully when you start first;
There is often a message here to tell you what to do. If this is not the case, check
your system documentation or check with your provider.

  • How to clean the hard drive on a Macbook.

    Hi there Apple community support.

I am trying to clean my internal hard drive. Lately my Macbook has been telling me that my startup disk is almost full, so I was passing by and clean all my files on the hard drive. Also, when I looked at the "about this mac" window to see what was on the hard drive, he told me there were about 50 GB of apps and about 50 GB of movies, this seemed a bit strange that I have not a lot of other apps on my Macbook apart from those he came with, and I also deleted a large number of films I've had. So basically I don't see why my boot drive is full after I deleted a lot of things out of it.

    Thank you
