  Check the date of the file C:\Windows\System32\config\regback\System. It precedes the date when you became aware of your problem? If so, follow these steps:

  1. keep tapping F8 during the first phase of startup.

  2. Select repair in the menu that looks like this.

  4. Select repair when prompted.

  I'm on an iMac ca 2008 and the mouse cursor moves on the screen, but clicking on does not work. No action in any application. Will not open files, no command is executed.   I recently got a "microsoft wireless mobile mouse 3500. For some reason any the left click will not work and won't be the Center wheel. The right click works perfectly well. I havnt done anything to harm the device. I checked the manual to see if something could help me here. I also looked on the websites and checked if others had the same problems.   It can be hardware junk... Perform a recovery with a recovery disk procedure to make sure that is not os/driver associated. Otherwise, contact the service centre in your country, it will fix it for free under warranty
