clone hard drive

Hello.

I want to back up a former under OSX Tiger 10.4.11 G5 power. I can't use DiskUtil I want to clone the same partition that the operating system is running from. I can't use Time Machine, which requires at least OS x 10.5. I can't use CCC or Super Duper as advised forwards messages that asked the same question as the Tiger-compatible versions out no more. The computer cannot be connected to the internet and I do not have the original Tiger installation DVD.

What would be the best way to back up the computer? Could I do that starting from a Linux install DVD with partition wizard? Are there alternatives better? I want to just clone and throw away the computer.

Kind regards

Baptist

If you're throwing the computer why not just remove the drive?

Time Machine is not a clone.

Why do you need to clone? The main purpose of a clone is to have a bootable copy. What should you?  If this isn't the case, then just copy the files in the finder.

    Method 1:

Right-click on the external hard drive in Windows Explorer, click Explore, see if you can recover the files.

Method 2: Check the hard drive for errors.

  • clone hard drive and graphics downgraded. not activate

I am planning to build a newer computer, so I lowered my current camera hard drive cloning a smaller drive with Acronis. then I installed the smaller disk of my current camera.  Then I went down the graphics card because I want to use on the next machine I intend on creating.  Everything started fine. Then.  half an hour later, a message "you must reactivate" came.  It would not automatically activate so I used automatic telephone activation suggested.  After putting in all the characters, he asked how many licenses, I used this product.  I said three, because I had used the third license on this machine before. I have a family pack.

Apparently, it's the wrong answer. He wants a new license.  It's the same machine with the same motherboard and I do not see why I had to buy a license, just because I changed some hardware.

By the way.  Just in case you're wondering, I reformatted the drive, I took off this machine and will use a new license key once this computer is completed.  So, what should I do to continue using the current license on this unit?

Does absolutely not the way. If it's a Soft raid then

You can put larger discs in 1 at a time and you'll have to do this TWICE.

Then rebuild the raid of critcal return to normal.

Then you can extend the partition of the free space.

If it's a hardware raid, you must create a new container on the discs and clone dvd or USB bootable from a USB that can contain all the data and.

There are also some SuperDuper. I used a few years ago, but both loved CCC much more. I know others like SD, however.

  • SSD HARD drive cloning

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows a quick and inexpensive way to clone my current hard drive to my new SSD.  The SSD, I is the EVO of 850 Samsung 250 GB internal 2.5 inch SATA III SSD flash disk. I thought that I could use as Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper cloning software to clone hard drive into a USB port, replace the hard drive with the new SSD and install Mac OS El Capitan (10.11.2), download Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper and transfer the files from the USB on the SSD.  If anyone has the best ways to go about this, I'd be more than happy to know.

    MacBook Pro (13-inch, mid-2012)

    OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

Storage: GB 439,61 498,88 GB free

Processor: Intel Core i5 2.5 GHz

I use external enclosures due to their flexibility.  I have a http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MSTG800U3K/, and there is a little cheaper that has only USB 3.0 http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MOTGS3U3/.  Exchange a number any 2.5 in. nu-readers through the enclosure.

Put the SSD inside, download CCC clone internally externally.

Download ElCapitan.  But install ForceQuit the execution of the European Community.  Now the twist I like, but others may disagree with... copy EC install to a place safe to use again if you need (install draws internal parts in the place of installation).  Then, run install EC to upgrade your clone.  Make sure that the clone/upgrade is running well.  THEN swap the drives.

I use my camera for several readers of clone, data/video players, test for OSXes new readers, etc.

  • Satellite P850 - replacement of 1 TB HARD drive

    Hi all

my laptop is 1 month out of warranty and keep Windows telling me my HARD drive is about to fail and I'm not sure on what disk HARD I need to buy to replace, I'm not in the best financial situation at the moment and I'm looking for the most cost-effective way of backing up my computer and install a new HARD drive.

I looked into buying a drive enclosure HARD 2.5 "and that he was going to create a clone of the original HARD disk, but if anyone who knows better if they could let me know. I have a 2 to external HARD disk, I was able to use to backup everything, but I don't know how to do and the cloning machine just seams easier as after his clone new HARD drive I just replace it in the laptop, I found a cloning case that comes with the son and the software for about $50 and a 1 TB drive HARD Hitachi for $80 , but I do not know which fits into HARD drive my laptop.

Any help is much appreciated as I am a little upset my laptop $1400 a too serious a problem 1 month out of warranty, cheers Jon.

    > I looked into buying a disk enclosure 2.5 "HARD and he's going to create a clone of the original HARD disk, but if anyone who knows better if they could let me know

It was sounds good to me.
In the past, I went from the HARD drive to SSD drive and I also clone HARD drive partitions and moved to SSD drive.
After that, you'll need mark the system partition active (on the external HARD disk)

Regarding the 1 TB HARD drive:
I think the HARD drive needs to be supported, because the controller SATA isn't limited to one size specific. This is why it is not a big problem to make it work.

  • EliteBook 8560w: upgrade hard drive

    Hello

Please, I have a 500 GB HARD drive on my system. I can it switch to an SSD 1 TB for better performance?

    Thank you

    Hello

Nothing prevents you to do this. My suggestion

b clone HARD drive to new SSD using the cloning software (normally provider SSD offers a).

    (b) physical swap SSD HARD drive,

I exchanged about a dozen laptops, and the success rate is 100% on Sandisk and Crucial SSD.

  • transfer the copy of windows xp on a new hard drive

My 6th sense tells me that my hard drive is about to fail.  I want to clone this HARD and then replace it with the new clone HARD drive.  Copying valid OEM xp (xp Home Edition, SP3) on my current HARD drive, failing will transfer without problems for the new HARD drive so that when I replaced the current HARD drive with the new and turn on the computer, it starts straight upward as usual?  Thank you.

At the start of my hard drive makes strange noises, I used the program Norton Ghost 2003 disk cloning my XP Pro, SP3 hard disk. I used the switch of ib (boot image) when I did and when I started the cloned disk was not disabled. Windows found new hardware (the player) and after a little while that I should restart. I clicked the button to do it and everything was fine, then.

Note: I bought the retail version of the Ghost of Norton program. It is not a free software.

  • Paragon/Ghost: Create a bootable clone between the (hard drives of different sizes to)

I was web-searching options of backup in the last days and want to settle on a solution of freeware Paragon or Ghost (I know that the latter meets the needs, but I wonder if the first can do with relative ease for a beginner). Here's the scenario:

My current Toshiba Satellite A660 (PSAW3C-047017 model) running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. The HARD disk is the disk HARD MK6465GSX from Toshiba (http://storage.toshiba.eu/cms/en/hdd/multimedia/product_detail.jsp?productid=341). I bought a small (500GB) Seagate Momentus XT, which has apparently Advanced Format. I guess the Toshiba HDD 512 bytes/sector, because nothing comes up in a search on the web for Advanced Format for this HARD drive.

I would like the Momentus XT allows you to create a bootable to my Toshiba HDD clone. The Momentus XT will be in a pregnant that will interface to the portable computer via eSATA. After cloning for the Momentus XT, I would replace my Toshiba HDD in the laptop with the Momentus XT due to its superior performance. The Toshiba HDD becomes my HDD auxiliary (in the external case) for the cloning of the weekly. If nothing ever happens to the Momentus XT in the laptop, I can then take the Toshiba HDD out of the enclosure and put it in the laptop. However, this mode of use of the means I have to be able to clone initially Toshiba HDD Momentus XL, then clone in the other direction later.

I read a lot about needing to be trendy, but not having alignment issues do not image, cloned, or formatted a hard drive before (except obey blindly support), I'm foggy on the understanding. Seagate announced their SmartAlign technology, but there is no corroboration on its effectiveness and no info about HARD drive models have it. Because Windows 7 is described as supporting the AF, I guess that many of the issues identified by SmartAlign are nonissues to me.

My concern is that if there are other traps due to the corresponding HDD sizes and sectors that could create problems for the cloning process, both the Toshiba HDD for the Momentus XT and vice versa. Consequences (and solutions) I'm trawling for are the inability to create a clone bootable, the completeness and accessibility of the clone and align content makes this performance impact (with the exception of those to avoid due to the use of Windows 7).

A friend I know that Ghost will properly manage the HARD disk and differences in size of the sector gracefully, avoiding the above consequences. I was wondering if freeware Paragon will handle this scenario as well. Paragon is free, but apart from the functional qualities, I would also consider ease of use in order to take a decision on the two.

Thanks for any comment on the ability of Paragon freeware to manage this scenario, the comparison of usability of Paragon & Ghost for this scenario, and anything else you think is relevant in the choice between them for my scenario.

    Hello

    > Thanks for any comment on the ability of Paragon freeware to manage this scenario, the comparison of usability of Paragon & Ghost for this scenario, and anything else you think is relevant in the choice between them for my scenario.
In my opinion, this question should be forwarded to the Paragon supports.
    http://www.Paragon-Software.com/support/
Check the knowledge base or the forum of the community.

From my point of view, you must first create a Toshiba Recovery disk.
In this case, you are always secure you can set the laptop back to factory settings, even if the HARD drive was going to die or the system would begin to run crazy.

I have used Ghost in the past in order to back up my files. I created an image of my two partitions bootable file and this race smoothly unfortunately cannot say on Paragon or compare both applications.
