Clustering, load balancing, failover implementation process - worm 11.1.1.3

We are setting up two servers Linux Red Hat, with the 11.1.1.3 Essbase version,

Question is which tool or where the process of configuration we achieve the objectives
mentioned in the question and answer below. Any help will be great.

Thank you

with answers, general order questions

Can you please give us more details on what you are trying to achieve?
Trying to accomplish load balancing, Clustering and Higavailability.

What do you mean by "using a file system location"?
We want to use a single source (a space on a single server) to the application and the data on the shared network or one of the boxes.
where similar applications on both environments will use a system of data files and other activities of essbase, so double maintenance
is eliminated.

Have you ever seen such environment or implemented?
NO.

Share with us all the steps that you follow?
We are at a stage of installation and configuration of servers and software.

Two Essbase servers cannot share the same files IND/PAG, correct - each server is expected to be able to block them exclusively.

V11 makes it a little easier to see which files can be shared and which cannot. The idea, as I understand it, is that you can share the entire folder Oracle\Middleware between all the servers in your cluster (assuming they have the same operating system, architecture, etc.), but we must give each server a separate subfolder under user_projects (by nominating the "instance" when you run the Setup program). Each subfolder under user_projects must be assigned to a single server. All Essbase data, apps, etc. is all user_projects subfolders, so they cannot be shared.

  • Where to configure clustering: on the web server or a load balancer?

    Hi all

a few installation questions. I read on clusters and where to set up the pool. My main goal is to reach stickness session, session failover. but I'll ask them later when I clarify below.

    If my installation is

-> Cluster WebLogic Web server, I need to install the cluster weblogic web server plugin.

    If my installation is

Balancer load-> cluster WebLogic, I need to configure the LB, cos the LB must meet certain criteria.

    My planned Setup is

Webserver-> LB-> cluster WebLogic. the weblogic balancing is done at LB. I'll have to set up the LB to balance to the cluster.

I think I'm NOT configure the weblogic on the correct Web server plugin?

Configuring the web server is obviously a proxy directly through the lb.

So my next qn: the configuration to the LB is to balance the weblogic cluster OR a list of all the backend .jsf page server? Assuming that my application launch page is a jsf page. Enjoy your advisor.

    (a) you have little sticky on LB. On the Web server, Weblogic Plugin will take care of permanent sessions.

    (b) Yes, you need to add to your weblogic.xml in the application. There will be no conflict. However, your heap memory usage will increase as you could store session information on two servers.

"Circumstances and considerations should I need a LoadBalancer in front of my weblogic cluster? --

The main reason you would use a load balancer is to keep the VIP for your application. He would charge the balance between the weservers. Also usually SSL is stopped at the level of load balancer. It helps you reach cross clutser replication etc... You can read this document... Failover and replication in a Cluster

  • ASA Vpn load balancing and failover

    Hi all.

We have two asa5520 configured as main unit and emergency in failover configuration, and everything works fine.

Is it possible with this configuration (switch), configure the vpn load balancing/grouping?

    Thank you

    Daniele

    Hi Daniele,

You cannot run two of them on two firewalls ASA, VPN feature load balancing or failover functionality.

Where you need to use the two feature, you must use more than three ASA firewall, two first ASAs will work as the failover and the ASA third will work as cluster VPN for them, the following example uses four firewalls:

    ASA1 (active FO) - ASA2 (TF Standby)

    (VPN virtual master)

  • The implementation of hyperion IR application load balancing while 2 servers point to a DB?

There is a DB production. Some time need to configure the load balancer for Hyperion interactive report achieve high availability.

As know there are a lot of method to implement load balancing, want to know if

given two machines virtual (each of them has its own application server), and two of them going to point to the same DB via shared Assembly called/U01 player.

After the official documentations of oracle documented, there are scarce resources can refer to, any who knew this case of configuration before?

    Hello

We have implemented this type of solution:

    (1) server 1: install and configure in usual way. Better to use different patterns for each product.

When you configure Reporting and analysis framework services give repository location as shared drive location.

    (2) server 2: Installation of any product that has been installed in the server 1. While configure the database for the shared services registry point to detail diagram 1 server, it automatically configure the database for all the other remaining products.

When you configure Reporting and analysis framework services give location of the repository as a shared drive which gave in Server 1.

Make sure that the Shared disk is accessible from both servers.

You can deploy applications weblogic Server from Server 2 by giving details of server 1. ensure that the weblogic Server 1 service must always be upward and running for Server 2 workspace to work.

So if we set up the web server in both servers, then you must have load balancer and configure logical web address to this server for load balancing.

If you configure only in one of the server, then this workspace server that url will act as load swing url.the problem with this is always THAT OSH must be running or workspace url will not work

    hope you understood.

  • The order of failover and load balancing

    Hello

I have the following scenario. An ESXi with 4 Gbps vmnic. The questions are:

    (1) if I have a group of ports configured for 'Route based on the original virtual Port code' in the policy of balancing load, and for the same port group I the option button 'Override switch failover command"checked, where I set up 3 of the active adapters vmnic, as well as the other vmic remaining as unused adapter, the ESXi uses the policy that I have configured (in this case 'Route based on the original port code') between the three vmnic load balancing marked as active? Or he uses them in the order that they appear in the section active cards?

    (2) Suppossed, I configured the four physical switch ports in an etherchannel group to use 'Route based on the IP hash' load balancing policy. In this situation, then I configured for a certain group of port to only used two active adapters and two others as unused? In this case, ESXi should balance the load using the method hash IP but only in two active adapters? Or it is a misconfigiuration and I should not configure my nic teaming in this way?

    (3) the official setup guide says "NOTICE on IP requires the physical switch be configured with etherchannel. For all other options, etherchannel must be disabled. ». How can I I configured my virtual network, if I have a few groups of political ports based on the hash of the IP to use load balancing and another uses 'Route based on the original port code. This is the case when I for example have two management ports using the same vSwitch with four vmnic (where they are configured as an Etherchannel in the physical switch). I would port one or several groups for virtual machines that use the IP of the hash method of balancing the load and vmkernel ports por management uses only a single adapter active with no back and as "based on the source port ID" load balancing as best practices said.

Now, the four vmnic is the same for all traffic. The physical switch ports must be configured in an etherchannel group because certain groups of ports will use the method of IP hash, but others are not. The configuration guide I said SHOULD NOT use etherchannel if I won't use the hash IP method, but I'LL use it, but only in groups of one or more ports.

Maybe I do not share the same vmnic from this situation.

Finally, it's a philosophical question. What is the difference between 'The route based on the source port ID' and the 'road based on the source MAC Hash' load balancing policy? What is the purpose of the second? It is assumed that if I had two different MAC address in a virtual machine, it would be because I had two different virtual cards inside the virtual machine, which would be connected to two different port ID in the vSwitch, I can use the first strategy (based on the original port code). In other words, which would be the case where I had the traffic entering the same vSwitch but port ID with different source MAC address, so I should chose the method to distinguish the Source MAC address load balancing traffic?

    Thank you.

    Guido.

    (1) as long as you override vmnic only and don't change the policy for this group of ports, he uses the policy configured at level vSwitch and use the selected interface 3 with this policy

    (2) it should work, I don't think it's a problem for the switch receive packets on a subset of the aggregation. I do not think that Etherchannel is supported (IIRC, it is a Cisco proprietary protocol, VMware only supports LACP passive, which corresponds to the Port channel world Cisco.) Trouble me if I'm wrong!)

    (3) I think that's all right, as I have explained in 2), there is no special negotiations with the consolidation of VMware, the important thing only I know is to configure the port on the side of the switch channel if you decide to use the IP hash (that will lead to important questions)

    4) (self labeled) I think it may differ in some cases individuals, as when the operating system use the same MAC address for both NICs (aggregation in-vm) or if you advertise several MAC address for the same network card (ESX in a VM for example would make for its VM). Such cases differently affect this setting.

That is the right question, and I'm curious to know if someone wants to develop on it!

  • The storage load balancing process

We have a group of 4 members, total approximately 30 TB of space. In the past, we had a lot of volumes of 500 GB for ESX, after the installation of the ESXi5.1, we use higher volumes, about 1.5 TB. So there are a lot of changes in the storage pool. We find that the EQ is balancing of storage compared to 4 members as expected. We thought it was over two or three days agoo, but now he's balancing... then again for a couple of day all volumes are spread over 3 members, also, as expected, but he decides to charge storage it swings again... and again...  It is coming to an end sometimes?

We have another group with 4 members and also the same amount of space, but it we do not use the 1.5 TB volumes again... here, we see that EQ is continuous storage load balancing pool.

Im not worried yet :)), but whenever volumes are redestributing compared to members, it does not follow on some reconnects for ESX as the part of a volume can and will reside on another Member where on that time esx is not a connection to that session at that time.

    Hello René,.

It will not be stuck in a loop.  Part of the balance to the maintenance of free space between the members.  So when several pages are written to a specific member, space balancing will create plans to move the blocks to the other members to free up space on this member.  It's an ongoing balancing act.  In addition, extended periods of heavy i/o load balancer Advanced Performance will swap pages in order to compensate for the latency between members.

  • Cisco RV016 failover & load balance Multi WAN question

    Hello

I think the RV016 is the camera to buy for our small building, but I'm a bit confused in the manual if my scheduled configuration is possible, so if you could confirm if this is possible I would appreciate it.

We have a leased line as our main connection (lets call him WAN1). If this connection is not available, I don't want to load balance to any other network WAN.

We have 2 netgear 4G devices identical (we'll call WAN 2 and 3 WAN). If the leased line is not available, I would like to then load balance these two WAN connections.

Then I have a final connection, WAN4 as a slow adsl line. I don't know right now if I want to load balance this WAN1 or just have it as a backup to WAN2 and WAN3 failure (WAN2 and WAN3 have a 20 GB data limit each on their monthly allowance of the contract, if the leased line is down for more than a couple of days, what is unfortunately already happened) (then we reached this limit and then there is charged with extremely expensive data or just use the only ADSL)

In any case, it's normal, I want to balance the load. I want to only load balance WAN3 and WAN2 WAN1 fails.

Anyone know if this is possible? If not, is there any other similar device which would be appropriate?

    Thank you

    Ben

    Hi Bencarroll01,

With RV016 you can get what you need.

RV016 supports up to 7 WAN connection, and there are two mode of operation

    • Swing smart (Auto Mode): This option allows you to balance traffic between all interfaces increase the available bandwidth. The router balance traffic between the weighted alternating interfaces.
    • Group of IP (by users): Select this option for trafficking group on each WAN interface by levels of priority or classes of service (CoS). With this feature, you can ensure the bandwidth and a more high priority for specified services and users. All traffic that is not added to the IP group uses Intelligent balancing mode. To specify the services and users, click modify for the WAN interface and then add the entries of binding protocol for each service, IP address or IP address range.

For our case, we must have RV016 configured with IP Group(By User), so in this case, we can configure binding protocol that we can specify and force all traffic from any IP address of the local network outside through WAN1. and any other WAN connection they always towards the TOP but not the traffic passing through them

Now if WAN1 is down, immediately the rule to redirect traffic WAN 1 will be disabled and all traffic will pass through the rest of the WAN connection

After that if the WAN1 is once again the binding protocol rule will be active again and again all the traffic will be done by WAN 1

Please let me know if you have any other questions

  • vShield 5.5 - load balancer - trying to implement the signed certificate

Some background information for the context:

    vShield Mgr 5.5:

-imported Root CA Cert and a CA-signed X.509 cert.

-capable to connect to vShield Mgr with certificates of trust.

    VCD cells:

    -all certificates signed and imported

-able to connect directly with certificates of trust.

    balancer load vShield:

    VM: vcloud.ourcloudnet.com (10.10.10.1)

Profile: http/https, least_conn, 80/443, the members are the two cells of vCD

We want to have a cert signed and approved for load balancer address (vcloud.ourcloudnet.com). I tried to follow the procedures described in the Administration Guide vShield 73 page, but I'm getting confused with the procedure itself. When he says "you can generate a CSR and get it signed by a certification authority." If you generate a CSR at the global level, it is available for all vShield edges in your inventory. ", which means generating a CSR to the Mgr level as opposed to the Edge level vShield vShield? I'm doing this all wrong?

    Need advice please.

I understood the question. When the certificate is ready to be downloaded, I need to select Base 64 encoded instead of the DER encoded. This will allow me to see the signed certificate in the format plain text and then paste the contents of the certificate signed when I import the certificate in the edge of load balancer device.

When I did that I also fell on another question I want to create a new discussion on.

    Thanks anyway for the help.

  • Network [vSphere 4.1] load balancing and failover vMotion

    GoodMorning everyone.

I have some doubts about the configuration of the network for vMotion in vSphere 4.1

I know that I can activate a single portgroup VMkernel for vMotion on the single host, but can I have this portgroup in a vSwitch with two or more physical NIC attached.

Currently, I managed to have a vSwtich with vMotion and management of trade wth two NICs (see attachment).

Both NICs works very well with the recovery for both exchanges.

I would switch to a vSwitch with multiple network cards and I have some doubts.

It seems that I could configure it... but the load balancer for vMotion supported on vSphere 4.1?

And also, have the protgroup of vMotion in a switch with several network cards, is there a way to check what physical nic is currently used by vMotion?

I am currently under a license from the company.

Thank you all for your help.

vMotion for vSphere pre 5 does not support Multi-NIC, in vSphere 5, you can configure several VMKernel enable vMotion and select different Nic Active and load balance between the two vmnic, but unfortunately not in vSphere 4.x

For the management of ESXi, if you set active on both network adapters, you not to cross any active advantage / standby because it will only use on vmNIC, unless there is still a failure... but 1 vmNIC just because bandwidth is usually not a problem for the ESXi management only.

So the answer: upgrade to vSphere 5 for multi-nic vMotion and don't worry ESXi management as an active NETWORK card is more than enough bandwidth,.

  • Hyperic HA does support load balancing?

    Hello

We try to implement architecture Hyperic high availability based on JBoss HA and distributed cache EHCache. Our version is 3.2.3 EE.
The cluster configuration is quite simple with the HQ High Availability Guide.
Thanks for this guide and the esayness of the configuration of the feature!

My first question was, the agent, what server IP should I use? I put with node 1 and other agents with node 2
= > the synchronization between nodes works very well.

Therefore, I have some additional questions.

1 / can I have a single point of entry for agents with some load balancing and failover capability?
For example, if an agent is sending information with the Node1 and this node breaks down or the server is restarted for maintenance purposes, the agent information will be lost.

2 / same question for the application, can I have a single point of entry URL with some load balancing and failover capability?

    Thanks for your help.

HQ Enterprise HA for failover, but do not support for load balancing.  You will need before your HQ multiple servers with a load (software/hardware) balancer which will relay agent to a live server.  The load balancer must be staged all agents in a single node of 'master '.  If this server is unavailable, another server will automatically become the master node and agents should be redirected to this node.

  • ESXi - NIC teaming/load balancing

If I use two network cards on the back of my ESXi server that provide load balancing or is it just for the failover?

Each card NETWORK must have its own IP address?

I have to manually team network cards or is it an automatic process?
Or ESXi provides only the load balancing, as appropriate...?

If one of my virtual machines use it of full 1 Gigabit, another VM connection will use the other NETWORK adapter connected?

To add to the reply by Dave - it's technically not not balancing load even if it is called VMware - the best description is load balancing - type three methods Load Balansing ESXi offers are:

    1. Port according to ID - this the method by default when you have 2 or more physical NIC connected to a virtual switch. The VM traffic is realized on a physical NETWORK card based on the VMs virtual port ID and is incremented in the style of round robin. So if you have 2 NICs physical network, the first drop of will traffic VMs that the first NIC, the second VM shuts down to the second NIC, third comes out first NETWORK card and operating system on - host ESXi does not resemble the traffic so if VMs 1,3,5 are heavy network users they will go on the same NETWORK adapter even if the second NETWORK card can be totally unused
    2. Address based MAC - based similar to port, but the physical NETWORK adapter is selected according to the MAC address of virtual machines
    3. IP hash database - the physical NETWORK adapter is selected based on the starting and destination IP address - so if a virtual machine connect to several IP addresses that traffic will be disttibuted on all physical network cards - note this will require LACp be configured on the physical spend this ost ESXi connects to

    Pourrait

someone please help with a few examples on how to seup the HP switch.

Help will be greatly appreciated as we continue to lose tru RDP sessions

    disconnects.

    Best regards, Hendrik

Disabling protocols spanning-tree on the Procurve ports connected to the ESX host is going to promote a recovery more rapid port. Similarly, running global spanning tree is not recommended if you mix some VLAN iSCSI and data in the same fabric (i.. e. you do not want a STP process to hang storage IO). Spanning tree on your switches, look PVST (or Procurve BPMH) to isolate the STP VLANs unique events.

In regard to the load balancing is, by default (route based port ID) value algorithm requires less overhead on the ESX hosts.  You may not use LACP on the Provurve the lack of facilities LACP ESX. You must use "route based on the IP hash" sideways ESX and 'static trunks' on the side of Procurve. Unless you have specific reasons why your network need loads this configuration, I'd caution against it for the following reasons:

    (1) IP hash requires thorough inspection of packages by the ESX host, increasing CPU load as load package increases;

    (2) the static configuration puts switch physics rigid and critical ESX host port mapping. Similarly, groups of ports all will fail as the Procurve batteries for management only and won't be on switches 802.3ad circuits Group (i.e. all ports of a group of circuits must be linked to a single switch) - this isn't a limitation of the port ID routing;

    (3) K.I.S.S. love port ID mix of port ID, beacon probe and failover on the port assignments you will get segregation of the raw traffic without sacrificing redundancy - even through switches.

    I hope this helps!

  • Best way to HTTP in OSB load balancing

    Hello world

We have a cluster of OSB and we must load balance HTTP requests on managed servers. Looking for info on OSB in load balancing, I found that there are essentially two options: use a hardware load balancer or a software solution like Weblogic HttpClusterServlet. For the moment, we have without balancer material available so we will have to take the option of software. I found a few articles on the configuration of HttpClusterServlet as http://redstack.wordpress.com/2010/12/20/using-weblogic-as-a-load-balancer.
But I have a question for this configuration. If we use a managed server as a proxy HTTP requests between OSB as managed servers, what would happen if the server goes down? I think that one of the main objectives of a cluster deployment is to avoid a single point of failure, but with this configuration, all requests depend on the availability of the managed proxy server.

Could you recommend a configuration of implementation of OSB load balancing?

    Thank you in advance,

    Daniel.

Load Balancing in a cluster for http requests can be made using at least 4 different ways:

    (1) - use a hardware load balancer like F5 BigIP LTM
    (2) - use a web server with the plugin from weblogic to the cluster frontend
    (3) - use weblogic with HTTPClusterServlet
    (4) - use the DNS round robin - it works if you managed servers that run on 2 machines (say mach1, mach2) but on the same port. Client HTTP use hostname "mach" to access the URL and the dns has a resolution of names alternating Mach mach 1 and mach2 IP addresses...

All options except (1) only achieve load balancing and not automatically failover all instances... Balancing load material has the additional feature to probe [sending periodic pings to targets], by which it can detect if the target resource is alive and do not send traffic to other nodes who are alive... That's why the hardware load balancers are worth their investment...
other options may work if the client is encoded to a retry on failure... so on 2nd or subsequent attempt, the routing is done in the machine that is alive...

For the options (1), (2)) and (3), you also need a redundancy of the system (material of load balancer, web server or weblogic) to avoid the single point of failure for load balancing... Balancers support material are usually deployed in redundant pairs to achieve...
