code 80080005 error again

Hello!

I have problems with Windows Update. Since my mother a few months ago leaving a safetybackup in the process, she has not been able to update Vista (she runs SP1) through Windows Update. According to the Windows Vista windows update have not been updated since mid-February.
I tried the following ideas for a solution: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/thread/6683e5b2-95a4-46ba-a41a-06be7f116550/ and http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/thread/51710592-416c-4309-8508-6831cfe9b75e with the resolution.bat just works. Resolution.bat left the updater appearing ever since it was updated before. Still with no luck (IE, I get my code 80080005).
Cheers, Hans

Hi HansMoeller-Poulsen,

Thank you for visiting the forums of answers.microsoft.com

My suggestion would be to try and clear the Software Distribution folder.

Empty the software distribution folder

1. click on Start, click run, type services.mscand click OK.

Note On a Windows Vista-based computer, click Start, type services.msc in the Search box, click services.mscand then click run as administrator.

2. in the Services (Local) pane, click automatic updates, and then click stop.

3. reduce the Services (local) window.

4. Select all the contents of the Windows distribution folder, and then delete them.

Note By default, the Windows distribution folder is located in the drive: \Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder. At this location, the drive is a placeholder for the drive where Windows is installed.

5. make sure that the Windows distribution folder is empty, and then enlarge the Services (local) window.

6. in the Services (Local) pane, click automatic updates, and then click Start.

7 restart the computer, and then run Windows Update again.

Please let us know if this is useful at all, and if you still receive the error message above.

0 x 80080005 indicates that there is a problem of access denied with the security of the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) descriptors.

Suggest strongly that you first have the system analyzed by the Microsoft Safety Scanner. http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx>

If any malware is detected by it, then suggest you download and Save the Fixit on this page.

How to reset the Windows Update components

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058>

Once the download completes close all open programs and web browsers.

With the system connected to the internet, run MicrosoftFixit50202.msi and choose his Aggressive mode.

Aggressive mode will attempt to reset the BITS security descriptors.

Restart when it has finished running and see if the system can update now.

If malware has been detected by the parser, then please post If it has been removed and the specific name of the malware.

Do not run the Fixit as the malware does not reset the Windows Update components.
