  I bought a Samsung laptop about 2 months ago and have been using Windows 8 without any problem.  I recently received notifications indicating that I need to activate Windows 8 because it is due to expire on 7/29.  I found my key product, but when it writes the results in error code 0xC004F074.

  When I bought my laptop from Best Buy, I was under the impression that I would have a full version of Windows 8 and not a temporary test.  By examining the details of my card to purchase, this indicates that Windows 8 is installed.

  Where to start with this whole terrible farce...

  About six years ago, I got a laptop with Windows 7 on it. It rained a little. A friend helped me later exchanging the hard drive for an SSD to operate even more pleasant.

  A year ago, this laptop has melted its motherboard. A repairman has helped me to recover the files and install the HDD in the shell of a used laptop from a similar model, and it worked well again.

  Then came the big 10 Windows upgrade-a-thon. I was quite happy with Win10, until just a month ago, when a required update bricked the thing. It would start up, go through the login screen and then the monitor would go black and the computer wouldn't do anything. Even attempted hard - reset would put it just in "standby mode".

  A friend ended up having to recover my files again before you wipe the drive and reinstall 7. The problem is, I have no idea what to do for the activation code. The original laptop is recycled probably at this stage, the current has a label with all the ink dispelled. Reinstall drive did not have a code above anywhere, and when I click on 'buy a new online activation code' he sent me just a "buy the full version of the page 10" of Windows.   In my case, the snap would charge because I had turned off the customer service group policy (under my personal little war against the administrators of domain). I was told that disabling GPC would not bad, if you can log on as an administrator, but apparently it can have some side effects, like preventing the firewall snap to load. The firewall service itself seems to start and work properly, though. The snap works fine if I re-enable the TPM service.
