Cold DB RMAN backup & restore on the other server: best procedure?

Hello

A few days ago I did a cold backup of the GR 2 CARS DB 11 with the following commands:

srvctl stop database d DBPOC

RMAN target / < < EOF

bootable media;

run

{

assign the channel c1 type disc format ' / tmp/dump/coldBkp/%T_%d_DBID%I_s%s_p%p.bkp';

backup of database TAG 'BKPCOLDDBPOCC' keep until 'sysdate + 1000';

backup current controlfile TAG 'BKPCOLDDBPOC_CTL' keep until 'sysdate + 1000';

backup spfile TAG 'BKPCOLDDBPOC_SPF' keep until 'sysdate + 1000';

output channel c1;

}

SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;

quit smoking;

FO %

srvctl start database-d DBPOC

srvctl start service d DBPOC

Then noticing that I need a copy of controlfile I also did:

backup current controlfile copy format in ' / opt/dump/oracle/coldBkp/currentctlfile.ctl';

He made a set of files in the file/tmp/dump/coldBkp system that I copied to another server, resembling:

20130912_DBPOC_DBID23987234897_s371_p1.BKP... plus my currentctlfile.ctl.

I copied everything on another machine in/tmp/rest, where the same structure of fs and ASM

starts existed; then run the following commands to restore this DB on

This new server:

1 / set some env variables

2 / cp initDBPOC.ora /opt/oracle/app/ora11g/product/11.2.0/db_1/dbs

3 / sqlplus: Startup nomount pfile=/opt/oracle/app/ora11g/product/11.2.0/db_1/dbs/initDBPOC.ora

4 / rman: restoring controlfile to ' / location/of/coldbackup/files/currentctlfile.ctl';

5 / rman: sql 'alter database mount;

6 / rman: catalogue start with "/ location/of/coldbackup/files";

[Type here YES]

7 / rman: restore the database;

8 / sqlplus: recover database using backup controlfile until CANCEL;

[immediately cancelled the first required archive log]

9 / sqlplus: alter database open resetlogs;

The procedure has worked.

But I'm not happy with this, I thought I could have done with RMAN. However, I discovered

e.g. a CONTROLFILE RECOVER with the HELP of BACKUP is not possible with RMAN etc etc.

and I had to swith back to sqlplus, surprisingly.

Am I missing orders RMAN should I used? Y at - it another way - more simple? -of

perform this restore/recovery simple thanks to the RMAN utility only? Or is my error in backup

the first place and I should have used other commands for backup?

Thank you very much in advance for any advice you can give me...

Kind regards

Sébastien

Hello

You can use

RMAN > RECOVER DATABASE;

and for the time being, you can use

Set until clause with TIME/SCN/restore point

  • RMAN backup restore a band

    Hello gurus

    We have lvl0 RMAN backup restored to a band, but a few reasons that we couldn't apply recovery on it. Verification of the information contained in the controlfile, he identified the file system only and no other files. So we recreated the controlfile and decided to recover using backup controlfile (up to cancel or to change or until). However, to my surprise, when I listed the columns checkpointchange # and checkpoint_time v$ datafile_header, I found the difference in time stamps ranging from 24 hours - including menat we had to apply 24 hrs of archiving to bring dbfs all in a consistent state (before it has allowed us to open the db) - well, it worked this way.

    My question is that if I trigger a lvl0 RMAN backup to say 16:00 July 27 and ends at 16:00 on 28 July (as I am directly pushing around 1 TB of data on tapes) - what is the timestamp of the coherence of this backup. In other words, there is this backup to restore from 16:00 July 27? Or it is only available for a restore from 16:00 28 July and later...?

    Is it not that RMAN works at the block level and when I start a backup should give me all the dbf than timestamp... ?

    Enjoy your entries and comments.

    When you take an online backup with RMAN, the backup of data files is always inconsistent because they have logs archived redo generated during the backup to match: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/intro005.htm#sthref70.

    A full online backup can only be used to restore the database to a point in time begins after the end of backup: If a backup starts at 16:00 on 27 July and ends at 16:00 on 28 July, you can use it to restore the database to a point in time after 28 - DEC 16:00.

  • I could do a system backup/restore through the eRecovery without any additional software utility?

    I have an Acer Aspire One 532 H Netbook. I could do a system backup/restore through the eRecovery without any extra utility of Windows 7 to Acer recovery? If I have such software, how can I get it? Because my netbook not came with any utility recovery/program when I bought it. Need to respond as soon as POSSIBLE, my netbook is dying with the longer startup time and more.

    Nice day

    You must back up your data to an external HARD disk, etc. To reload your factory machine, click Start, all programs, acer erecovery management, restoration and completely restore the factory settings.

  • Common cause of failure of the Mirage server in clustered environment and how customers will be switched to the other server in a cluster

    Hello

    Can someone share me information about common cause of failure of the Mirage server in clustered environment.

    And how customers will be switched to the other server in a cluster to continue their operations from the server failed.

    Kind regards

    C Bathesha

    In general, Mirage servers are not lacking. It is very rare (and not, for example, to problems of storage or endpoitns, which are more common).

    May raise problems of overload, memory or hardware malfunction too little.

    After that you make server standard troubleshooting (the etc system event log), you must file a Service request by VMware.

    How can I proceed?

    Thank you

    in case the other server is necessary:

    1. install 11.2.0.3 on the new servers as binary only, apply PSU more later if necessary. Copy init.ora and other through configuration files

    2 run the pre-upgrade on 11.2.0.2 scripts originating server, omitting step will cause the upgrade fails

  • ESX3i - create the Pool of resources on the other server?

    I have 2.5 VC and ESX3i in a DRS and HA cluster. Whenever I have create a Resource Pool, he always pulls data from a server, it it never draws from the other server in the cluster.

    So I have a total of 8gigs and 16ghz but when I try to allocate resources it shows that I have 4 gigs.

    No idea how to fix this?

    That limited calue will fluctuate because memory is used by VMs - and looking at the use of the DRS you have a host that memory is 80% used and theother 40% used - so he has a lot of memory used.

  • Only RMAN backup, restore the temporary files?

    DB version: 11.2
    Operating system platform: Solaris 10

    Can RMAN backup and restore temp files?
    I'm to recreate a database in a new server, when restoring, it's recommended to restore a temporary RMAN backup file? (if Rman can indeed save and restore temporary files). Or is it better to manually create temporary files in the new server?

    N ° RMAN does not backup TEMPFILEs. (so it does not restore them).
    You can not even explicitly issue a command to BACKUP for TEMPFILEs.

    The TEMPORARY file is re-created automatically when you OPEN the database - it is created at the location specified in the controlfile.

  • Bookmarks suddenly disappeard from one of my computers, impossible to restore on the other.

    I am running Firefox 15.0.1 on Windows 7. This afternoon, all my favorites and history (including the contents of the bookmarks toolbar) suddenly disappeared while Firefox is running. I restarted Firefox and restarted my computer. My modules are all there and I confirmed that I have only one profile.

    The bookmark in the profile backup files are all empty (files not empty, but no bookmarks), and I went to my backup system and confirmed that they have been so at least since the end of August. (I have a * lot * of bookmarks.) I have several other computers synced to this account (which is shown as connected), and at least the two I checked (a desk, an Android) have all bookmarks. But when I created a manual backup on another office and tried to restore from it, I said 'Impossible to treat the backup file. In addition, the synchronization status bar says "Sync has encountered an error during synchronization: unknown error.»

    Any ideas?

    I think the only way to recover from this is to delete the places.sqlite file or move the file to another folder or rename the file as a test (places.sqlite.sav) to force Firefox to create a new file.

    There will be no problem with restoring a JSON backup unless the file is really corrupted.

  • AFTER dbid chanaged rman backup restore

    Hi all:

    I'm on 10.2.0.3.

    I need to do a restore from a tape that contains my RMAN backup (in a different database). The backup is in 2 weeks and I use redundancy 1, so I have to re-catalogue my backup items.

    All this is perfect until now, but there's a complication. DBID was changed on this database AFTER the backup was made, so the catalog command is get rejected:

    RMAN > Catalogue backuppiece ' / db/backup/HMTRN/25 Jul 09/c-3431719427-20090723-00 ";"

    ORA-19870: error reading backup total/db/backup/HMTRN/25 Jul 09/c-3431719427-20090723-00

    Someone has an idea?

    Reset original database in a privious incarnation would work?

    Dear I don't see any of them:

    RMAN > list incarnation of database;

    RMAN > list incarnation;

    RMAN > exir

    Thanks in advance!

    Before you start the backuppieces of cataloging, you must restore the controlfile that correspond to this backup (with the correct DBID). CATALOGUE update the controlfile as well.

    Then

    STARTUP NOMOUNT
    RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM '... location ';
    ALTER DATABASE MOUNT
    CATALOGUE...

  • PES 10 must reconnect after the restoration of the other computer.

    I supported the catalogue of PES 10 on my iMac after verifying that no files have been disconnected.  Restored to the MacBook pro choice once the same location and another time another location, but retain the file structure.  The files seem to have transferred without a problem, but they are disconnected.  With the help of properties, I find that the file location is where it is supposed to be.  If I plug a single file, it seems to be exactly where it should be. i.e. paths on both sides of the screen to reconnect are identical when the reconnection is completed.  Includes 20K more catalog files, and the spinning wheel of death that appears when I select "reconnect all files" is formidable.  What should I do to keep the files to be taken apart in trying to achieve this transfer?  Thank you very much in advance for anyone to help.

    Post edited by: finstead - the spinning wheel of death has disappeared, but the function of reconnection will file, apparently not learning in the process. The adjacent disconnected files to another in the original structure of the file are subject to the same agonizing search by the program function.

  • Cannot backup VMs to the NFS server

    Hi all

    really stuck GhettoVCB script configuration to back up virtual machines...

    I only have a single physical hard drive "datastore1" on my 6.0 ESXi host. I also have NFS server:

    /NFS

    IP address: 192.168.3.200

    First of all, I did a little test: I added this NFS server (file system is ext4) as a new 'teststorage' using vSphere Client storage. When I type in console

    # mkdir/vmfs/volumes/datastore1/somefolder

    # mkdir/vmfs/volumes/teststorage/newfolder

    everyghing is ok. Also:

    # esxcli storage nfs add h 192.168.3.200 v s/nfs/backup - backup

    # mkdir/vmfs/volumes/backup/tesfolder

    Well obviously, everything works. I so disassembled vSphere Client NFS.

    Next step, I tried to configure the script:

    VM_BACKUP_VOLUME = / vmfs/volumes/datastore1/autobackup

    Thanks in advance for the help.

    The solution was simple: my notebook + in Windows curled some symbols 'hidden' at the end of the first line, before that I sent this file via WinSCP.

    1. use only vi on your ESXi because different EOL codes (CR + LF/LF). Also don't let useful space and the end of the lines.

    2 set the async on your NFS server instead of synchronization that increases the speed of copy.

    3. place your script of ghettoVCB on your data store. For example: / vmfs/volumes/datastore1

    Hope this helps others.

  • Clone from one server to the other server

    Hello

    I am running 10.2.0.4 database system. I need clone databsae developed to test the server.

    How can I do that.

    I know basic so please tell me what steps in details please:

    (1) backup controlfile

    (2) stop dev database c

    (3) copy the data file from dev to test the server

    (4) backup controfile edit: (what I do here)

    (5) create the structure of the files on the test server

    (6) change the init.ora file

    (7) new beginning (HOW) on Test database?

    Thank you: I really need help to step 4 and 7

    Thank you

    Hello

    A: open noresetlogs option

    1 modify the init.ora (if necessary)

    2. $export ORACLE_SID = name of sid

    3 sqlplus "virtue sysdba".

    4 sql > startup mount;

    5. sql > select name from v$ datafile some members of the union of v$ logfile filename select union from dba_temp_files;

    a. If the mount points are identical to your source and destination then goto step 6. of another 5.b
    b. change the database file rename "" to "".

    ex: change the database file rename ' / u01/datafile/users01.dbf' to ' / oracle/datafile/user01.dbf';

    6: sql > alter database open;

    7. set tnsentries if necessary.

    B: open with resetlogs

    1 edit the init.ora (if necessary) and remove the controfiles from the restored backup location.

    2 Controlfile trace: before editing - CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "ORCL" NORESETLOGS NOARCHIVELOG

    Once change - CREATE CONTROLFILE VALUE database "ORCL" RESETLOGS NOARCHIVELOG

    Display the location of the data file if necessary.

    3. $export ORACLE_SID = orcl

    4. $sqlplus "virtue sysdba".

    5: sql > startup nomount

    6: sql > copy track controlfile published;

    7: sql > alter database open resetlogs;

    8: sql > ALTER TABLESPACE TEMP add TEMPFILE ' C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\ORCL\TEMP01. DBF'

  • Update/migration 2.5 to 4 on the other server vCenter

    I read the vSphere Upgrade Guide. In particular at page 49 the topic "upgrading to vCenter Server on a different Machine and keeping the existing database" seems to correspond to what we intend to do.

    We have a 2.5u4 physical vCenter with SQL 2005 local and we wish to migrate to vCenter 4 on a local virtual machine with 2008 x 64 with SQL 2008.

    Some questions I have:

    Q1: What happens to all the 3.5u4 of ESX host? Are they automatically made the new FQDN to the new destination server name? Are they members of the same cluster...

    Am I basically look the same except for: a) I am now on vCenter 4; (b) my vCenter server name is now different and GUESTS know this change.

    Q2: What happens to all Virtual Machines? They are members of the same groups / pools of resources etc.

    Basically, T1 & 2 are the same, the guide does not seem to explain what happens after the process upgrade/migrate as clearly as I would like.

    Q3: What time is it "safe" uninstall the SOURCE server vCenter?

    VCP3 32846

    VSP4 VML-306798

    All the guests reconnection and cluster reconfiguration will be done automatically. You don't have to do anything manually after the migration. Please make sure that the users and groups who use VC inherited is available on the new configuration also.

    I think it will be a good idea to uninstall VC inherited when vCenter 4.0 is operational and works correctly with all the hosts and reconfigured clusters.
