Cold for a data backup ArchiveLog

Hello

Could someone tell me please the step by step process to perform a backup to cold on a database that is running in ARCHIVELOG mode. I found several links in this community, as well as on other sites, but none of them seem to complete for me as different sites say differently.

The knowledge I have, to make a backup to cold, is as follows.

1. take a backup of the data files, controlfiles and archived redo logs. The online redo log backups are not needed. Copy the files to tape.

2. in the case of a failure restore files backed up at the original location and recover the database. Archiving logs would be to recover the database to the backup. The online redo log would recover from the backup.

I know that it is not as easy as that, if someone could please tell me the steps.

Thank you.

Please...

No need to 'files in the list. Or you always use punch too many cards.

  • Essbase data backup and recovery

    Hello

    We have a process in place for the App backup folder... I saw a process where data recovery is made by just the files ind and pag... and the restructuring of the DB... it is a good practice for the data backup and recovery...

    Assuming that the pag and index files are in the same location that the db files then, stop the application, restore the files, start up, up to you if you want to restructure as if you have restored all the files, it will be in the same State when the backup was performed.

  • Should we backup Archivelogs special cold backups?

    B version: 11.2
    Version of the operating system: Solaris 5.10

    Here's the script that we use for ad-hoc cold backups. Is it necessary to take the backup of the archivelogs when we do the backup to cold?
    Size of the backup archivelog room is sometimes greater than the backup piece containing the full backup of the comic itself! Then lost too much disk space.

    The script that we use
    run
    {
    allocate channel t1 type disk;
    sql 'alter system archive log current';
    shutdown immediate;
    startup mount;
    backup  full database format='/mypath/ORCL_full_%U_%T.bkp' tag='ORCL_full';
    backup archivelog all tag='arch_bkp' format='/mypath/ORCL_BKP/arch_%U_%T.bkp' delete input;
    release channel t1;
    }

    Hello;

    A cold backup is a consistent state. If you do not have to save them. No new archived logs generated during the backup or if you're still OK.

    For other types of RMAN backup, you STILL want it. This ensures that backups of data taken when the command file is recoverable in a consistent state.

  • My backup archivelog never becomes obsolete for the deletion

    Hello

    I am running version 11.1.0.7.0 and backup using rman and tivoli backup as media management layer.

    I make daily backups for a week, weekly full backups for a month, complete monthly full backups kept for one year and annual full backups kept for 7 years.

    My general retention policy is 30 days:

    RMAN > show all.

    using the control file of the target instead of recovery catalog database
    RMAN settings for database with db_unique_name PRODPRIM are:
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY to the WINDOW of RECOVERY OF 30 DAYS; *
    CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION
    SET UP DEFAULT DISK DEVICE TYPE;
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO "%F" # by default
    SET UP THE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 8 TYPE OF BACKUP TO COMPRESSED BACKUPSET;
    CONFIGURE BACKUP OF DATA TO DISK FILE TYPE DEVICE TO 1;
    CONFIGURE BACKUP ARCHIVELOG FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # by default
    CONFIGURE MAXSETSIZE TO UNLIMITED;
    CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION OF DATABASE # by default
    CONFIGURE THE ENCRYPTION ALGORITHM "AES128"; # by default
    CONFIGURE COMPRESSION ALGORITHM 'BZIP2 '; # by default
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON ALL STANDBY;
    CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO ' / oracle/PROD/db/tech_st/11.1.0/dbs/snapcf_PROD_PRIM.f';

    The daily backup script is as below:

    RMAN > print script prod_daily;

    printing stored script: prod_daily
    +{+
    allocate channel t1 type 'sbt_tape' parms 'ENV=(TDPO_usrFILE=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64/tdpo.usr) ';
    allocate channel t2 type 'sbt_tape' parms 'ENV=(TDPO_usrFILE=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64/tdpo.usr) ';
    allocate channel t3 type 'sbt_tape' parms 'ENV=(TDPO_usrFILE=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64/tdpo.usr) ';
    format "prod_dailybackup_ % d_ % s_ %t" Dungeon of the database backup to the time = ' sysdate 7' newspapers. +
    backup format 'prodarchbackup_ % d_ % s_ %t' archivelog all not saved 1 time;
    cross-checking of backup;
    overlap archivelog all;
    delete noprompt obsolete;
    delete expired backup noprompt.
    delete noprompt expired archivelog all;
    outline report;
    output channel t1;
    output channel t2;
    output channel t3;
    +}+

    This line: backup format + database "prod_dailybackup_ % d_ % s_ %t" keep until time = 'sysdate-7'-newspapers; I don't expect the archivelogs compulsory to recover from that backup backups will be kept and will expire when this backup expires.

    But when I list backup of archivelogs, I find archivelogs backups that were taken as early as next January, and the archivelog backups never get deleted or obsolete:

    10.2, you have to specify NEWSPAPERS.

    10.2 documentation:
    http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/B19306_01/backup.102/b14194/rcmsynta035.htm#sthref554

    However, 11.1 and above, it is NOT necessary and, I would say, must not be specified.
    11.1 documentation:
    http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/B28359_01/backup.111/b28273/rcmsubcl011.htm#i97063
    «+ An archive backup is autonomous because is contains all the files needed to restore the backup and recover in a consistent state.» "If the database is open during backup, then RMAN automatically generates and saves them archived redo logs necessary for the protection of the compatible database.

    and
    http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/wnbradv.htm#sthref6
    "+ Long term + improved backup management.
    + You can create a backup archiving or long-term with the BACKUP... "KEEP that keeps only the required log files archived to make consistent backup.

    and
    http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/rcmbckba.htm#CHDHAFHJ
    "+ When you specify the DUNGEON on the BACKUP command, RMAN generates multiple backup sets. ...... It automatically generates a recovery archived log backup to ensure that the backup of the database can be recovered to a consistent state. »

    You could log a SR with support of Oracle to confirm if you need the key word "LOGS" in the BACKUP... KEEP and to identify the behavior if you happen to keep this in your backup command.

    In my humble OPINION, not be specify the LOGS of the BACKUP... KEEP.
    You could test this in a test environment by doing a BACKUP... MAINTAIN a database that has a very small WINDOW of RETENTION.

  • Can Equium A100 - I use E drive for data backup?

    My Equium A100-27 has a 80 GB hard drive, it is split in the C drive half and drive E.

    I understand that the E drive is used for system recovery purposes, but can I also use it to store data?

    If I use it for how much room must be left free for system data recovery?

    It's old laptop model, and there is no recovery of data stored on the second partition of HARD drive.
    If you can do what you want with this partition, and also use it for backup of data or backup data.

  • How to plan the backup archivelog in EM12c for a group

    I am aware that I can schedule a backup of archivelog to a single database, but it is recommended, or indeed only just backs up multiple databases is to consolidate upward under a group and then schedule a backup for that group.

    However, I think that Oracle can be left aside the backup archivelog to a group option. All that I can find a full or incremental backup option. Anyone know if it is possible to backup archivelog planned for a group?

    In addition, on a somewhat independent question;

    If I put in place a system of backup of 1st day of the month and incr full backup for the rest of the month and I have a retention time of 14 days, food will be possible after 15 days?

    You can schedule the backup archivelog as well as the full backup, there is a checkbox to do this, if it is enough for you. If you want to schedule a backup archivelog only you have the ability to create a multitasking job, with one step for each instance: Set rman environment and launch with the controls. That's the way I do my backups one after the other. But of course it is static, you must hardcode the instances in the work. There is no option to make backups only archivelog through em12c, at least not through the GUI.

    Regarding your backup problem:

    The recovery window tells rman to consider as possible, obsolete backups after 14 days. He still however will check that they are really obsolete. Your only full backup will become obsolete until you make a new. However, the incremental backup may become obsolete and deleted. RMAN was able to retrieve the instance with the full backup and the archivelogs, so the oldest incremental backup should be obsolete.

    You can ask rman which files are obsolete and explicitly specify the recovery window:

    RMAN > window recovery obsolete report 15 days;

  • "Backup Optimization" does not work for the "database backup"

    Hello

    I use a windows environment and my info from database is like this:
    Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
    PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production

    TNS for 64-bit Windows: Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
    now I have to change my configuration for backup optimization on and then make example tablespace offline and do file sample data in offline mode. After that, I run 2 times 'Backup Database' command but 2 backup has the same size and have example tablespace too... Any backup archivelog is work bur backup database is not!
    According to this link, it does not backup datafile for the second example: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmconfb.htm#BRADV113
    is there something I missed?

    configuration of RMAN:
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 5;
    CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION ON;
    CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO DISK;
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '%F'; # default
    CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 1 BACKUP TYPE TO BACKUPSET;
    CONFIGURE DATAFILE BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1;

    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE; # default
    CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO 'C:\APP\ABC\PRODUCT\11.2.0\DBHOME_1\DATABASE\SNCFORCL.ORA'; # default

    No failure, it works an expected. There is a relationship between the retention policy and the number of backups:

    RMAN only ignore backups of offline or read-only data files when there are backups n + 1, where n is the redundancy. You have of the "REDUNDANCY 5', and you will keep 6 identical backups of the offline data file.

  • any backup archivelog

    Hello

    What is the difference between all the backup archivelog and archivelog backup with rman.

    You cannot issue a "BACKUP ARCHIVELOG' by itself. The syntax of 'archivelogRecordSpecifier' requires a specification for which ArchiveLogs supported upwards - for example 'ALL' or "until...". ' or 'FROM... '. "etc.

    The only time that you do not have to specify the ArchiveLogs is when you use the 'PLUS ARCHIVELOG' to a 'BACKUP DATA base'

  • Would a backup of PC data backup?

    Hi, I recently had problems with my iPad 2 Air involving the iPad having a problem unprovoked where it won't turn while I was at work, even if I tried the buttons restart. The night after that happened, I went home and accused to see if something would happen and he showed a low power indicator and after trying to restart, it then off again. This is repeated until I managed to turn on by making some alterations, which then lead me to understand how I was going to try to work off tension. I took the decision extremely stupid and without restore statement (after a backup on PC) which lead me to bigger problems, because for some reason, I couldn't get my iPad to stay long enough to restore the backup (it was still defective even on load). I've saved on PC expecting to save documents and data as well, but much to my panic, I realized today (after having managed to restore my backup) it didn't. For almost a year my iCloud wasn't backup despite me having enough space, and I couldn't be bothered to fix, because I thought that regular backups for PCs would do the job. I lose my job for a year, or is it possible to recover from backup? Thank you.

    That's why do rely never ONLY on the "cloud" (relocation of the remote server off-site) only.

    So let me understand this.

    All the time you had this iPad, you never, EVER connected to your computer synchronization and backup your data on iTunes?

    And recently, you discovered that your iPad has not been saving iCloud, either?

    You never bothered to check even all this time to see if iCloud to store backups of data on your iPad?

    Certainly, iTunes does save all the stored application data and documents stored application.

    You waited to do a backup on iTunes when your iPad is become seriously problematic and glitch?

    Certainly, it is possble that your iPad is pretty glitchy for not doing a full backup on iTunes.

    It is possible.

    There is a very high chance/probability that iTunes has not spared any of your data from your iPad, and it is gone now.

    If you did a restore of this incomplete iTunes backup, I'm sorry to say, but the data has disappeared from your now Pad, too!

    If you had not tried to do the restore of data, there is a chance that all the files were still on your iPad.

    As soon as you did the restoration of the inconplete, you have destroyed the previously stored data that was still on your iPad and he disappeared.

    That's why you perform regular backups in addition to a more stable situation for any mobile device.

    A mobile computing device is NOT a permanent place for important data to your store.

    These devices are not technology also mature, stable and robust as a laptop or desktop computer to trust to store data long term.

    You must have, at least, another source more reliable and robust to store your important and precious data and images you want to never lose.

    Even on a more robust computer, you must have / should have a backup of your important data on your computer, you want to never lose the hard drive or any other failure of the computer failure.

    FYI, cloud storage, always much better to save a local source, such as a computer or WiFi active laptops and external hard drives designed for use with mobile devices.

    These documents are available from Seagate or Western Digital and there is even a new WiFi active Flash USB in SanDisk reader, called the SanDisk Connect which comes in a variety of sizes of storage that works with any iDevice.

    Things to consider if this doesn't happen to you ever again!

    Good luck!

  • Restore the iTunes app data backup and backup to iCloud

    My iPhone 6 has been stolen. I got iCloud backup enabled, and the last backup was 2 days.

    I do a full backup encrypted via iTunes it also sometimes manually, the last time was 1 month ago.

    I bought a 6 new iPhone as a replacement. When I tried to restore from your backup, everything (photos, applications, settings) seems to be restored very well, but most of my applications (not all) were missing from their app data.

    More importantly, Google Authenticator, which had all my keys to two factors and in hindsight, an app that follows the historic activity and has experienced a year of daily data stored on the device value authentication.

    I don't understand why it affected only a few applications, but not all. Most applications requiring a login account is no longer connected, makes me think that their data was not were properly restored either. I found one or two applications that had some settings restored properly, but most of my apps seem to be returned to a State of the new facility.

    I tried to re-do the restoration of iCloud again and got the same results.

    I'll try the iTunes backup restore then, but even if it works I would miss even 1 month of a data value. Is it possible to recover this data? I guess that that's actually in the iCloud backup 2 - old days, but for some reason any, that he is unable to restore.

    Is it possible to combine the full restoration of iTunes and then update with the most recent data backup to iCloud app?

    Update: when I tried to restore the iTunes backup I received this error a few minutes:

    Is it because the original phone was an iPhone 6 and the new phone is a 6s? Is it possible to access my backup?

  • how much storage is required for a scheduled backup, if you already have your shadow system recorded in the storage device?

    Hello

    I already asked this question but I am still confused! I have re-installed a W7-64 bit fresh in my desktop HP-computer, the first thing was to burn down an emergency start, the startup disk, and then stored a shadow/system image on a removable pocket of 160 G external support box. I have configured my monthly backups to be stored in this media storage device that shows almost 90Gs by flying over. But when the monthly AutoSave active, it stops, & I get a window saying my camera isn't big enough for a scheduled backup. Correct me if I am wrong but I thought that if you have a shadow of system stored in (an external device like mine). A new scheduled backup is just to refresh the system image w/all other file, program etc... Why do I need more 90Gs for whom? I can't afford an external backup storage, right up there:
    1. is it possible to store scheduled backups on my current internal C: drv? (I am aware of the risks). until I get no additional external storage?
    2. why, simply by making a return for which the OS is looking for new files, software etc... who need to maybe added or put to date him require more Gs to a full backup of the system?

    Hi Alan,

    You are welcome!

    Please keep us informed.

  • Essbase data backup script

    So I a. The MSH, with the following basic information file, where if I schedule this task, I will get a backup of data for the date file this script has been planned and in the next race, the same name of file to the backup.

    I would like to be able to get this script to save the backup based on the date it has been executed and produce a new backup file based on the date of each subsequent executions.

    Someone at - it something like that they would like to share with us?

    echo "- INITIALIZE ROUTINE -";

    echo "this script can be run every night to perform backups of data export of Essbase;

    echo "Begin recording in the backup log file ';

    spool to DataBackup_AllApps_Log.log;

    ECHO "";

    echo "- PERFORM REQUEST LOGIN -";

    echo "log on to the server by using the: userid, password and server name"; "

    login password admin on hyperionserver;

    ECHO "";

    echo '- LOG OUT ACTIVE server SESSIONS -';

    echo "commands of disconnection from the current system of execution... » ;

    ALTER system disconnect session force them all;

    ALTER database Demo.Basic unlock all objects;

    Change the system asks to kill all them.

    echo 'Objects unlock complete on server';

    ECHO "";

    echo '- EXPORT ESSBASE DATA BACKUP -';

    echo "Running export orders Database...". » ;

    export data from database demo.basic Level0 to data_file 'C:/Oracle/Administration/DataBackup/DataBackup_Demo_Basic_File.txt ';

    echo "Completed data backup export";

    ECHO "";

    echo "- TERMINATE ROUTINE -";

    spool off;

    "exit";

    Hello

    Before start using script Hari add below lines

    echo off

    @REM * SETTINGS *.

    @call D:\back\Backup.bat

    Set year = % date: ~ 10, 4%

    Set day = % date: ~ 7, 2%

    Set months = % date: ~ 4, 2%

    define a day = %% months %% % of the year

    hh = % time: ~ 0, 2%

    mm = % time: ~ 3, 2%

    the value of ss = % time: ~ 6, 2%

    the value t = % hh % mm % ss %

    essmsh %filepath%Backup.mxl % essuser % esspwd % esssvr %%%d % tm dt

    Rename 'D:\back\security.txt' 'D:\back\security%d%_%t%.txt '.

    Rename 'D:\back\alldata.txt' 'D:\back\alldata%d%_%t%.txt '.

    Backup.bat

    spool to 'D:/bck/EssbaseArchive.log ';

    Set timestamp

    connection $essuser $esspwd on $esssvr;

    poster session;

    change the system asks to kill all them.

    alter system disconnect session any force;

    export database $essApp. $essDB all data to the server data_file 'D:\back\alldata.txt ';

    security_file export of data_file 'D:\back\security.txt ';

    change the $essApp database. $essDB force archive in the folder "d:/bck/sample.arc".

    change the $essApp database. end of $essDB archives;

    spool off;

    disconnection;

    "exit";

    So that it will be not any replacement of the existing backup files, remember you will have to go for some activities of housekeeping that it could consume space.

    If _1, _2 files because although I mean more than 2 GB of data, then you may need to modify the script to rename all the files in the directory using a loop for.

    Thank you

  • Palm Pre for Sprint data back up problem

    I have problems with data upward with my Palm Pre for Sprint - Palm webOS 1.4.1.1

    I set it so "On" to make the data to automatically back up my Palm profile every day, however it has not saved it automatically since June 5.  I just noticed today (June 17) and I tried today to back up data manually by clicking on "Back Up Data Now" button, but the screen just hangs indefinitely with a note saying 'Préparation' never back up the data.

    On a related note, between June 6 & June 10 I made a trip to Canada where my phone was roaming - then I can understand why he might not come back in these circumstances - but I went back to the United States on June 10 and he has not saved automatically since and it does not appear that he is able to save manually either.

    Anyone had a similar issue or know what I could do to remedy this?

    Of course, it seems that a simple reboot solved my problem.

    Here is the link to the post, which has contributed to:

  • Conflict with the L1 backup task backup ARCHIVELOG

    DB version: 11.2.0.4

    Platform: RHEL 6.3

    We have a backup archivelog that starts at 22:00 and an incremental backup that starts at 23:50.

    The backup archivelog usually ends at 23:00. But lately, he took more time. Sometimes, he finished only at 12:30, which is like 40minutes after the incremental backup is started. That is, backup Archivelog overlaps with the incremental backup.

    One of our colleagues has proposed adding 'FILESPERSET 1' to speed up the backup archivelog. So he changed the backup archivelog script of

    BACKUP FORMAT '% s_ %%t p_ manhArc_' ARCHIVELOG ALL DELETE all THE ENTRY;

    TO

    BACKUP FILESPERSET 1 FORMAT '% s_ %%t p_ manhArc_' ARCHIVELOG ALL DELETE all THE ENTRY;

    He gave the reason was that "this will prevent channels stuck with the unreachable archivelogs.

    Question1. Adds 'FILESPERSET 1' really useful in this scenario?

    Question2. 'FILESPERSET 1' in the archivelog script means 1 for each archivelog backup piece. Right? This means that a lot of backup in the backup media.

    The justification is not applicable.

    FILESPERSET 1 would not help you here.

    Each consisting of 1 ArchiveLog BackupSet would result in a very large number of BackupSets.  Your controlfile would have to create a lot more locations for BackupSets.
