COM Surrogate (dllhost.exe) and question of loading folder
Hi all
There are 2 problems that I think are related, but I could be wrong:
- Some files are loading very slowly (or even does not at all). The framework itself is displayed instantly, but the content is not and the Green loading bar in the address bar is.
- Surrogate COM (dllhost.exe) is always eat up to 13% of the CPU (so I guess that 100% of a wire with a processor of threads 4 cores x 2 I).
Running on Windows 7 x 64, all updates installed.
I saw a bunch of related issues here but with apparently different sources. I tried already to:
- Run the System File Checker: no problem.
- Run Microsoft Safety scanner: no problem.
- Check the system drive to find errors: no problems.
- Run Microsoft Fixit performance: some software/services launches at startup, but don't see any suspicious things.
Any suggestions?
Thank you very much!
Niranjan salvation!
And thank you for your fast answer :)
First of all, my problem is (partly) solved! But not exactly by doing what you suggested.
Pretty good for me and for the moment in any case. :)
Let me explain:
As you suggest, I created a new user account, restarted the computer and connected with the new account. And Yes, magic, the problem did not appear.
So I happily spent at step 2 of your recommendation that would transfer all my data to this new account to use as the master account.
But while I was browsing windows to copy my data the problem reappeared.
So after some research and a few tests, I realized that the question was in fact a video file on my desktop. An .asf file to COM surrogate could not create a thumbnail *. Perhaps because of a mistake or missing codec? In any case, deleting, I solved the problem.
Hope this feedback will help others and I hope that will come a software fix.
Best regards
* The COM Surrogate is a fancy name for sacrificial processes for a COM object that is running outside the process which has asked. Explorer uses the COM Surrogate during extraction of thumbnails, for example. If you go to a folder with thumbnails enabled, Explorer will trigger a COM Surrogate and use it to calculate the thumbnails for documents in the folder. It does because Explorer has learned not to trust miniature extractors; they have a poor track record of stability.

Dllhost.exe and problem Windows 7 Thumbnail Preview
When I try to watch a folder that I did not open in a while to see the pictures on this particular machine, which is Windows 7 with full updates, I get nothing bug a white windows with only the name of the image where I should see a way the image thumbnail. If I go to the Windows Task Manager, I noticed that dllhost.exe is running, but takes only about 25% cpu and about 16 MB of RAM, so its really not to do much. However, when I finish the task dllhost.exe thumbnails show almost instantly. Has anyone seen this problem or found a way to fix it?
Hi Lucas,.
Perform an upgrade on the spot and check if it works.
Note: Make a backup of all your data on an external drive before you perform an upgrade in-place, as this could result in loss of data.

So it is currently 05:49 where I am right now and I've lost sleep over this issue these days. My computer went from fast to slow apparently all night and I cannot understand why. I downloaded Malwarebytes and ESET Nod 32 Antivirus free and I have Avira. I have scoured the sysinternals Process Explorer and cannot find the root of the problem, and I just need someone better than me to help me with this problem. I will follow all rules or guidelines, I'd really appreciate just for help! Thank you!
I mean not kind of, but not in a concrete way. I backed up all my hard drive on a USB of terra, reset my computer at the store settings, basically wiping and just re - download the essential. In fact, it works better than ever, now that it is cluttered with. It seems barbaric, but he did a lot.

I don't know what is COM Surrogate. It lights up just on the screen and I don't know why! He just tells me to install important updates, what I've done.
Hi Carolina,.
According to Alexander in this thread of TechNet:"COM Surrogate (dllhost.exe) is an application that is often used by Windows Explorer to isolate themselves from codecs (if explore would be the codecs in its own process, it would crash as it did in XP, so explore generates dllhost to actually treat the miniatures, etc outside its process space)."There are a few things that people have done to solve the problem.1. If you have Nero or Roxio Easy CD Creator installed, try to uninstall it to see if this problem is still happening.' 2 ' Kiifer ' reported that checking the "Always show icons" option in folder options seems to have solved their problem.Click Start > click computer > press the Alt key to bring up the menu option Tools > click on options files > click the View tab > check the box for always show icons, never thumbnails. This is the first check box under files and folders. Please keep us updated. -

Toilet Bowl Flushing cursor dllhost.exe (Com Surrogate) question
My system still be plagued by an erratic problem where when I right click on an icon of office, or the arrow that develops a folder in Microsoft Explorer, the cursor will be starts to turn and does not stop until I go in the Manager of tasks and select DllHost.exe (COM Surrogate) and select "END process". This way I can describe the cursor to this place is that it looks like water when you flush the toilet! As soon as I close COM surrogate the cursor returns to normal and I am able to continue then all operations without problem. It seems that this happens more frequently when I had Internet Explorer open. Things I did to solve this problem are the following:
- Done a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit and all programs. S
- Updated all drivers and programs to their latest revisions.
- Run Malwarebytes, an anti Root Kit MRT and Windows Defender Of-Line (booted from DVD) and find all own.
- Perform a clean boot.
- sfc/scannow
LLA a recommendation that I have not done is to go into Data Execution Prevention (DEP) and disable DEP for COM surrogate (one in SysWOW64 (cannot disable one in System 32 folder).)
Other suggestions for something try to solve this problem?
Hello
Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.
From your post, it seems that you are facing problems with dllhost.exe (Com Surrogate).
Try these steps and check:
Method 1:
To find out if the problem is with windows or some hardware connected to the computer, I would say that you look up the number in safe mode . If the problem occurs in Mode safe, then one of the Windows Service can cause the problem.
Method 2:
You can also go into Data Execution Prevention (DEP) and disable DEP for COM surrogate. To change the setting of the DEP and for more information on DEP check the links provided.
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/change-data-execution-prevention-settings

Dllhost.exe * 32 - Com Surrogate
From October 18, 2014 Windows Update, my task manager will show perhaps 30 cases of dllhost.exe * 32 - COM Surrogate, consume 100% of CPU and about 6 GB of RAM.
I ran: Norton Full Scan, Emsisoft Anti-Malware, Norton Power Eraser and Microsoft Malware removal. Found nothing even the slightest threat. I also ran "sfc/scannow" at the command prompt. He fixed a single file in the audio driver, nothing else.
If I reboot and open the Task Manager but nothing, the problem may not start for a while. But if I open Windows Explorer, it starts immediately, crushing system with dllhost.exe * 32 - Com Surrogate
I've seen a lot of comments online about the same topic. But nobody seems to have a definitive solution, or find the cause.
If you are familiar with this issue and have a solution, please share. :)
Thank you
I"
Win 7-64 HomePrem running on Corsair SSD, 8 GB RAM, AMD 1090 t.
I had the same problem and here is how I fixed it:
I went in C:\Windows and the SysWOW64 folder right click and choose PROPERTIES.
I clicked SECURITY and click ADVANCED to give me ownership of this file. then I went back to SAFETY and gave myself (as admin) full control of this file. Then I deleted the file dllhost in the SysWOW64 folder and rebooted. The problem was gone.
You will probably need to open Windows Task Manager, check the box "Show processes from all users" and continually with the right button to COMPLETE the PROCESS to stop the offending files of dllhost in order to achieve this, but it will work.

Dllhost.exe surrogate COM slow down the computer using the memory
Hello
I could really use some help if anyone has the time. :-)My computer behaves strangely since I made a restore point.I did the restore point because I could not get online, oddly enough it turned out to be a loose wire.Anyway, now there is an application that keeps popping up in my task manager using most of my cpu, so mycomputer bogged down. It is named dllhost.exe COM surrogate and when I opened its locationHe was in my folder windows32. It is not my services that I can see, but it seems to be bound to playvideo or music files. I could be wrong.I did the usual antivirus (avast free edition free antivirus and malwarbytes) analysis, I defragmentedmy computer, I did a scan of system, I did a scan of the memory... I can't understand.Any suggestions? My computer has 16 GB of installed RAM and 1 TB HDD I am running Windows 7Professional 64-bit.Thank you in advance. :-)I did go to the task manager of windows, processes, sort them alphabetically by the description column, you can list by going to display and select column, and then down to the substitution of com and do a right-click and choose end process... you may need to do more than once... This will remove at least for awhile... it is mainly used to display thumbnail pictures in my photo folder... you can the delete permanently, but then you would not have miniature photos...

Dllhost.exe COM Surrogate
Hi all
I recently started having a problem with dllhost.exe. I noticed y\on Saturday that my computer is very slow. The Task Manager showed several instances of dllhost.exe running and sucking a lot of memory. The history tab in Internet Explorer also shows I have visited several Web sites I've ever visited, even some who is identified only by IP addresses. I read online that this can be related to malware. However, I ran several scans with a couple of different programs, including with ESET and nothing was detected on my computer. Also, I had not visited all the weird sites or received a suspicious email when the problem occurred. He needs enough came out of nowhere.
Anyone has a suggestion for how I can solve this?
Rohit,
In order to follow again, it seems that the creation of a new user profile has completely solved the problem I had. In particular, my computer's performance improved as well since this change.
Thanks again.
Kind regards
