Hi sunnysunup,

1. have you installed Kaspersky Internet Security software on the computer?

After research, we found that this issue is related to the product of Kaspersky. If you have installed this product on your computer, then try the following steps and check if the problem persists.
a. open Kaspersky Internet Security, then click on settings at the top right.
(b) in the left pane of the Protection Center tab, select Application control and click Applications in the right pane.
c. expand the Microsoft folder and look for COM Surrogate.
d. right-click COM Surrogate and choose the Application rules. Alternatively, you can double-click it. If you use Windows 64 edition, you will find 2 COM substitutes. Both are also responsible for the dll.exe in system32 and syswow64 folders.
e. now tab Exclusions, check mark "do not control application activity" and apply the changes.
f. check if the problem persists.

Note: Perform step d and e for two surrogates COM if you use Windows 64-bit edition.

  • "COM Surrogate has stopped working" - error when browsing photos on the new version of Windows 7

Just built a new pc and installed Windows 7, everything works fine but whenever I browse photos using the photo viewer, it freezes and opens with "COM Surrogate has stopped working" (after 10-20 photos - happens every time).

I read online about possible errors - I do not have Nero or DivX installed so cannot include those. I also can not disable Protection for the execution of the data for dllhost.exe is 64-bit Windows, so it will not allow him.

  • Windows 7 photo viewer will not display all images, except in slide show mode.

I use a laptop computer with a monitor connected via a dock of the USC.  Everything worked fine until today.  When I use the monitor as the only display, windows 7 Photo Viewer does all the images except in slide show mode.   To be more precisely, after clicking on the file, Photo Viewer displays "loading".  If you wait long enough, the image appears later, but if you move or the zoom, the image window disappears.  If you go to the slide, the image appears immediately.  However, if I use my laptop screen, or both screens in extended desktop, Photo Viewer works very well.  Basically, as long as the screen of the laptop is off, photo viewer gets confussed and cannot function properly in slide show mode.

  • Windows 7 photo viewer hangs constantly

Windows 7 photo viewer seems to have a bug that causes constantly crash with a message 'COM surrogate has stopped working ". I saw the other posts on this, but none that really addresses the problem in Photo Viewer, which is obviously a bug in Miscrosoft since this is a new computer with a new operating system of Windows Professional, and none of these problems has occurred in Windows Vista. Is nothing done about it?

I have corrected it finally. I've updated the Intel HD Graphics driver 4000 a 2012 version to the latest version of 2013 that will install on Windows 7, and the problem disappeared.

  • Windows 7 Photo Viewer displays a bad JPG image colors.

Yes, I have the same problem with Windows 7 photo viewer. The colors are not with JPG images.  Other image formats (TIF) is displayed correctly.  The problem occurs only when I put the Windows Photo Viewer mode "play Slide Show". If I manually control the slide show the colors are correct.  This problem seems to be connected in some way on the color management profile attached to the Lady JPG.  I have experimented with the help of different profiles (use Adobe Photo Shop CS5 to edit profiles) and some profiles seem to work (such as ProPhoto RGB) correctly or at least differently. Anyone have any suggestions to solve the problem.

If no other programs are installed that are able to open the type of file or Protocol, your choice will be limited.)

  • Windows 7 photo viewer will not be printed

    Everything prints OK.
Photo Viewer gives the following from their selection error message... 'Print '.  That is to say BEFORE the print dialog box and before a printer is selected. The error message is "Photo Viewer cannot print this picture because there is no printer installed, or a service that Windows needs is not running."

Obviously, the printer is installed (prints everything else), if this service is not running.  Or is there something else?

  • Win Windows 7 photo viewer will not open the .psf files

Windows Photo Viewer does not open. PSF files from Epson?

Programs can recognize only the files they are supposed to use.

In the case of the Windows Photo Viewer, the official documentation says that it can display the following types of files (although you can add a little more by installing one or more codecs- LINK):

    Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG)

    .jpg and .jpeg,

    Tagged Image File Format (TIFF)

    . TIF and .tiff

    Portable Network Graphics (PNG)

    .PNG

    Graphics Interchange Format (GIF)

    .gif

    Bitmap image

    .bmp and DIBs

    HD Photo

    . WDP

Do you really mean PSF files?  As far as I can tell, a PSF file is probably an Adobe Photoshop proof Settings file.

If you mean PDF files - which are outputs to any scanner - you can view these last with the free Adobe Reader or Foxit Readerfree software, among others.

  • Windows 7 photo viewer broken by the software update of Intel Corporation display published February 2012

I tried the optional "Corporation - display - Intel (r) Intel's HD Graphics" offered by Windows Update.  The patch installed properly.  I also installed all the patches from Microsoft in the most recent update at the same time - my system is up to date with all patches from Microsoft for Windows 7.

The Intel driver is identified as "Display Intel Corporation software update released in February 2012" with driverid = 20470193 (but doesn't link to winqual included).

The failed igdumd64.dll DLL is part of the Intel driver patch.

I was able to revert to the version of the prior pilot with no problem using Device Manager (you cannot remove this hotfix with the usual methods to remove a patch provided by Windows Update, because it's a device driver).

Once I have returned to the older version of the driver (with the old DLL) flaws with Photo Viewer problems went away.

I don't use many intensive graphics applications, but I would not be surprised if this driver breaks things.

I can't find any documentation on what, if any, problem known this updated driver is supposed to fix.  But he clearly presents problems that did not exist with the driver components, it replaced.

I fully understand that driver development is a challenge, but this driver was clearly not enough tested if it succeeds in breaking simple things like photo viewer.

The driver in question is provided by Intel and the same update available on their web site.  I could certainly follow your collective advice and completely uninstall the graphics driver (which unfortunately would my system using generic VGA graphics, completely ruin my desktop display) and then download the driver from the Intel web site, but I sincerely doubt that the outcome would be different.  Returning to the already installed driver seems to have "fixed" the problem with the update.  And I scored the driver Intel "fix" hidden in Windows Update, so that I won't be tempted to install again, since it's apparently a bad solution to a problem not specified.

For what it's worth, the system in question is a HP Compaq 8200 "CMT", which has a motherboard Intel manufactured with integrated graphics Intel hi-def.  I don't have a graphics component snap.  Graphics drivers who settled on the system worked fine for my needs.

Intel has released an updated version of this driver in February 2011, which, at that time, caused a wave of reports (many of them in this forum) driver Internet Explorer 9, in break with defects occurring all the same Intel supplied DLL. The driver that came with my system seems to have had this problem.

If I was smart enough to understand how to report directly to the Intel they gave Microsoft a bad driver, I would, but as the component that is broken by the pilot part of a standard software for Windows 7 from Microsoft, I chose the problem here.  I'm sure that most of the Windows 7 users that could see a similar problem will seek a solution here, and for me, the solution was to return the driver (using the same procedures that were presented as the solution to the previous February 2011 broken Intel HD graphics driver "fix").
