Comments can not ping host in a guest only network

Hello

I have a Win XP SP2 guest OS running in VmWare Workstation 7.1.0 build 261024 on a Win XP SP3 host OS.

The virtual machine network is configured in the Config setting.

Problem: Can't ping guest operating system host OS, but the other way works, I ping guest operating system of the host.

Here are the details of config:

Host config:

IP address: 192.168.1.100

subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

default gateway: 192.168.1.1

Config of comments:

IP address: 192.168.117.128

network mask: 255.255.255.0

default gateway: it is empty

DHCP server: 192.168.117.254

Configuration of Vmnet1:

IP address: 192.168.117.1

NET Mask: 255.255.255.0

default gateway: white

When I ping 192.168.1.100 (Host IP) or 192.168.1.1 (Default Gateway) of the customer (192.168.117.128), I get a message from Destination unreachable in both cases. Please advise on this issue.

Kind regards

Neon

Welcome to the community,

Since it is a host-only network, you can test only the vmnet on the host (192.168.117.1) adapter.

If you want to be able to access the other IP addresses, you must configure the NAT is connected by a bridge.

Only way I see is, add a dummy WinXP guest with "bridged" n/w, to play the role of trading place for exchanging files b/w other guests and the host. In my case, it is very important to keep the others invited Win2003 unware of outside n/w.  This strategy XP, just to share the log file is an exaggeration.  I guess people must have solved this problem in a more elegant way, if so please let me know, if there are better ways.

Host is able to ping Guest, but not the otherway, and I think, it's because unless configuration host only the client ethernet adapter is not connected to the physical ethernet adapter of the host.

Should not be.  Windows is concerned, host-only network is just like a physical NIC connected to a physical LAN.  It's just that in this case, the cards are virtual and the LAN is separate from any other LAN.  In short, your physical host as "two network cards", the physical on and the only host.  The host only one is connected to a virtual switch.  The only other thing connected to this virtual switch is NIC of the virtual machine

Host is able to ping Guest, but not the otherway, and I think, it's because unless configuration host only the client ethernet adapter is not connected to the physical ethernet adapter of the host.

As noted above, do not need to connect to the physical NETWORK card because the parameter invited only creates a LAN completely separated between the physical host and the virtual machine.

If there is procedure to this share windows works, please give me more details. A shared windows is all I need (without resorting to the NAT) to Exchange data between G & H.

At this point, traditional troubleshooting techniques can be used.  If the comments can not PING host, host has disabled firewall?  But if your goal is to share a file from the guest virtual machine, then PING the host comments is not essential.  Simply the host can display the actions on the guest.  (In fact, PING is not essential whatever it is, as long as you see the shares.)  And you look at one/PINGing by name or IP address?  If you do not need, just use the IP address to remove any DNS resolution problems.

  • no connectivity between the virtual machines on the guest only network

I have trouble getting the network connectivity between two Windows 7 computers using a guest only network virtual in VMware Player.  Each virtual machine is able to get a (unique) IP address via dhcp and can ping itself and the bridge, but could not reach the other system.  I looked on my host computer adapter VMnet1 in Wireshark and saw incoming icmp packets in, but nothing is returned new.  My vmnetdhcp.conf file is unchanged with the exception to add a line to set the default gateway on my guests.  It was an attempt to solve this problem, and the same behavior was observed before changing anything.  Here are the details for this network segment:

    subnet 192.168.184.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {}
range 192.168.184.128 192.168.184.254;            # by default allows up to 125 VM

    option domain-name ";

Is there a problem with my configuration somewhere, or is it just a limitation of VMware Player?

You may need to allow ICMP traffic of WF with Windows 7 as OS.

On each side, you must make sure that all your hosts know that the road to the other network is by the local hub or using static routes on each host, or adding routing appropriate on any device is your default gateway.

  • Can not get working on new facility management network

I'm trying to connect to my new installation ESXi 6 but I am having trouble.

Background: Previously, I had 5.1 running on this computer. I use the same configuration of network that I was before. My 3 cards in the machine were 8111f Realtek and so initially, I couldn't install ESXi 6. I bought a Broadcom BCM5751 I think it is on the HCL, but I had a hard time to navigate that sometimes. ESXi 6 is installed with no problems, once this card was present.

Problem: I can't ping my new ESXi installation. The network configuration has not changed since the previous server, just the physical network adapter is different. The ESXi server can ping its own IP and localhost. The router can ping its own IP (gateway). Or the other cannot ping. Is a static route that is defined in the (unchanged compared to the previous) router, and the router says that the link is active. Router is Mikrotik Routerboard RB2011UiAS-2HnD-po

  • I can not connect computer vista laptop to my network home, but I can connect to other networks. Other computers can connect to my home network very well. This can be corrected?

My laptop runs Vista and I've not had problems connecting to my home network wireless until a week ago or not.  Then, trying to connect, I see other available networks, but not my own.  When I try to connect manually, it says that the network already exists.  Other computers, macbooks, are able to connect to my home network without problem.  I am able to connect to a network on my laptop fine unsecured wireless.

  • When a user logs off Windows 7 x 64 session, the rest can not access the internet until the restart network card

Hello! I found a problem with my system: when a user logs off Windows 7 x 64 session, the rest can not access the internet, until restarted network card. Reinstall NIC driver did not help. Problem appears on a built-in adapter, in the motherboard and a separate PCI card too.  Same router via its web interface is not accessible. Windows cannot automatically fix this problem after trying to diagnose a problem with his problem Diagnostic tool. After the diagnosis in the DETAILS window, MORE tests, it displays a message like this "computer remote can not receive a connection via the Internet (HTTP) Service Port". "Unplugging" a corresponding Local network connection and then reconnect solves the problem immediately. Switching between users, when two of them are connected do not cause this problem. Important: the problem occurs in the account of the user who was logged on the system FIRST after the PC was on, when the user disconnected on newspapers of a SECOND. If the SECOND user is logged in and the FIRST user disconnects, SECOND can still access the internet. It depends only on the sequence of the user's record, not on the particular user name. And one more interesting fact: after each user registered on and outside just for once, the problem seems to disappear until the PC is turned off and turn it back on!

    Hi, Mahesh,

and thank you very much for your help! Update firmware driver and router LAN did not help me get rid of my problem, but greatly improved my experience of networking in general. Anti-virus software was not guilty, also, but! I found the "iControl" network software, installed as part of Sogiciel 'AI Suite II' (that came on the CD of motherboard ASUS driverssoftware), runnning and causing not only the problem mentioned above, but would also decrease upload speed up to 0.3 MB/s, when download passes to nearly 100 Mbps! Moreover, searching the Internet, I have found a lot of complaints about the behavior of this software, so that people watch you the occasional installation of this piece... sweet ;) As "iControl network" has been uninstalled (not only turned off in the settings of 'Ai Suite II'!), I'm totally happy with my system performance.

  • Guest only network configuration help

    Hi all

I installed VMware Workstation 9 on my Windows 7 and has also installed a virtual machine running Windows XP (SP3). It is everything works fine, except for the network on the virtual machine. If I set the network adapter on the virtual machine for 'NAT', the connection works fine. However, I want to use a network 'host-only' for several reasons, and this type of connection does not seem to work.

    A few details:

-It seems that Windows XP is connected (the usual internet icon on the lower left is connected).

-ping does not work any site, but ping to "Card Ethernet VMware Network Adapter VMnet1" (I see when I do ipconfig on my host pc) works, so it is connected to something virtual...

-Ping but to the "wireless network connection Wireless LAN adapter", which I think is my network really does not work.

On my host PC, I see in the "network and sharing Center" that there is a separate 'VMware Network adapter VMnet1', it is identified as a public network (unidentified network) and it says "no internet access.

I'm guessing that there is something as simple as allowing the adapter on my host PC to connect to the internet, but I don't see how it's done...

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thank you

A 'Host-Only' network is as indicated in internal network on the host, it is not any access to the external network unless you add a router double nic.

What may be sought, it is called a "bridged network.
