Compaq 510 @ HDD, RAM & battery upgrade.

I have been using compaq 510 over 4 years.

Recently my HDD 320 crashed. Processor Core 2 duo T5870 2 GHz. 2 GB of ram.

(1) can I install 1 TB HDD in there?

(2) can I install 8 GB of RAM?

(3) by chance, can I change my processor and install a higher GHz core 2 duo or core i3 processor? ***

Thank you

Shak.

That I can't say for sure.

I installed several HARD drives that are greater than what the manuals say.

But I did not on this model.

If you have some time I would like to have the warehouse guys see if they can find an and I can test it.

  • Compaq presario s3040se RAM

Im a freelance tech and I am in the middle of giving up a compaq presario s3040se customers a melody so to speak.

IM goin to update modules memory live, a couple gig. I can't find a manual or a set of specifications that have ALL the info I need. It's my first HP, and I guess that ive been spoiled to work with ASUS prouducts as there is a lot of information online.

so, from what I gathered, the MB has two DDR SD slots. He now has a module of 256 MB in the first slot and a total capacity of unspecificed module in the second. The second module is marked "64 MB", and I know that this unit uses int. Intel XGP, which share up to 64 MB of system ram. I want to get at least 1 GB, if it is not not the 2gig maximum MB of ram new in this unit. With the 'shared memory ram' im reluctant to replace the two modules. Ive found some info out there, but a large part upwards is indicated as being compatible with s3040se-b, and as previously indicated my model is a s3040se. Anyone know the difference between models >?  I have to do something different from the upgrade of my ram, where it is shared?

any input will be appreciated thanks

    Hello

The following link shows the specifications of this machine:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c00005384

It came with only "256 MB DDR SDRAM" and you can upgrade to 2 GB. It has 2 slots/banks and a slot open (free). Now you can move on to 2 GB, 1 GB each slot/Bank. You can buy RAM from the following reliable supplier:

    http://www.crucial.com/EU/upgrade/HP+-+Compaq-memory/Presario/Presario+S3040SE-upgrades.html

or use the information (including the price) to buy elsewhere.

    Hello

    I just bought a memory of 1 GB of RAM to upgrade my Satellite 2 * 512 to 1 * 1024 + 1 * 512.
The brand of memory is Crucial.

Everywhere where I put my memory (1 GB in slot 1, 512 MB in the 2 slot or vice versa), my computer don't recognize only 1 GB.

    Some ideas on this concern?
What I have to put the same size of memory in each slot, maybe?

THX in advance for your help.

If you only check this forum and search for RAM upgrade themes, you will see that the people who use essential modules reported on compatibility issues.
If you want to upgrade to Ram successfully, please use the modules recommended Toshiba or Kingston.

If you have to choose between price and compatibility compatibility and good work modules, you must choose. Compatible Toshiba DDR2 400/533 1 GB module followed the part number - PA3411U-1M1G.

  • Compaq Presario C731TU: RAM and CPU max UPGRADE Presario C731tu chipset GLS960 cpusocket PPGA478 RAM and CPU max UPGRADE

    Hi all!

I have a Compaq Presario C731TU I absolutely need to upgrade its opportunities top of page. I discovered that he could run processor family Intel core 2 duo, and celeron family, that sounds really good!

Then consulted taken PPGA478 processors on the site of intel with their processor feature filter (http://ark.intel.com/search/advanced?s=t&FamilyText=Legacy%20Intel%C2%AE%20Core%E2%84%A22%20Processo...)   the best option seems to be Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T9500 (2.60 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 6 MB Cache).

    My question is:

Is there another cpu option better? Inside of a forum, I read that it can withstand up to Intel C2D T9xxx family but after T9500 (e.g. T9600 or T9900) taking turns into PGA478 and not PPGA478. What is the difference between PPGA478 and PGA478? are they the same or not?

Are there limits on the CPU with the BIOS upgrade? (mine is upgrated to F34 which should be the latest version)

About RAM: this laptop should work max 2 GB of ram but in fact I use it with 3 GB of ram (with these config.: 1 GB on the inner slot and 2 GB on the external, the inverse solution does not work, can not guess why), but someone "found a way" to use the 2 banks of 2 GB 4 GB total (and if according with this http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/specupdate/316274.pdf - pag. 19 - should be quite possible) , what ram 2x2gb modules can be accepted if? Help me = S

Thank you very much in advance!

I opened the laptop and the chipset inside the computer, wirtten there is an INTEL GL 960 who should manage only 553 mhz FSB... But... I installed inside, as the core 2 duo t9300, which has 800 Mhz FSB and it is fully functional in frequency from 800 Mhz to FSB. Really good news =)

AIDA 64 tool (former Everest) shows the FSB of GL960 chipset can run on 533, 667 and 800 Mhz frequency.

  • Compaq 6730 s: upgrade HP compaq 6730 s RAM (4 GB - > 8 GB)

    Hello

I have a 7 years hp compaq 6730 s running windows and ubuntu. It has 4 GB of ddr2 ram (667 MHz, according to me, but I'm not course on this) and a dual processor Intel Centrino 64-bit. It still works great. But I have to run long analysis and many programs at the same time and that makes it sometimes slow down or even freeze. I was wondering if I should look more than an upgrade of RAM or an upgrade of the processor. I think the first, but I've never done before

    Thank you!

    Hello

I run Lunix so I don't know how he manages memory. In other Word, I know that we can put the data in memory and eliminate the disk i/o - much, much, much faster but in this word RAM is still very, very expensive. Now, they will put flash card of new machines which is much less expensive to use for page and swap files. In short, more memory is good.

    Kind regards.

    Hi Ryan,

Contact Crucial and Crucial official recommendation.  If you buy directly from Crucial, then they will stand behind their products.

Your first consideration should be Support HP or HP sales during the consideration of upgrades or replacement of memory. If you want to consider other manufacturers of the best way to avoid memory problems is to contact one of the leading manufacturers of memory. I would recommend that you try the tools of these manufacturers: Corsair, Kingston andCrucial. Once you have determined the DIMMs that you need, then contact commercial or technical support to check that you have selected the correct DIMMS. If you buy directly from manufacturers, then they will stand behind their products.

I want to know if I still switch to 16 GB, what will happen?

(a)-l' another 8 GB of RAM is not detected by the BIOS of the laptop, so I can't use it at all, or

    (b) - 16 GB of RAM is detected by the BIOS of the laptop but I can't use it due to the limitation of the processor, but I can still use it for other functions such as using it to become RAMDisk

I would like to know the answer, because if the answer 'a') that's going to happen so I will not waste my money and I'll buy 8 GB of RAM instead of buy the 16 GB

  • HP6730s - RAM + SSD upgrade

    Hello! Greetings.

I have a laptop HP Compaq 6730 s and just found something on the specs on the chipset. According to the data sheet HP, my machine has a chipset of Intel GM45 and it says that it supports up to RAM SO-DIMM DDR2 800 Mhz modules.

If you check the specifications of Web page intel GM45, it confirms DDR3 up to 1066 Mhz...

My second question is about the SATA. I know it doesn't support SATA III transfer speeds, if I upgrade my HDD to a SDS, I have 3 Gb/s speed. You still think it should be the upgrade?

Could you please confirm this information?

    Thanks in advance!

    Erik Braga

    SATA 3 gb/s SATA-II so.

The GM45 chipset can be used when configuring a motherboard with support for DDR2 or DDR3. It was a early implementation GM45 so HP has chosen to use DDR2 at the time because it was what was available. If the motherboard does not support DDR3 and it's a moot point anyway because the memory can take DDR2, which is more expensive, that I understand.
