  Normally it makes no difference. I mixed all kinds of memory on the same PC.

  It may be preferable to get accurate, but not necessary RAM chips.

  You can do if you buy 2 chips PC2-6400.  Get the same brand and specification.

  I am a potential customer really frustrated.  I want to take my old Compaq Windows XP machine, delete the Junk I don't no need and "migrate" to my new MacBook Pro (the Compaq has a broken screen and works terribly with an external monitor... it is running OK, but the screen issues are difficult to handle, plus I want just a laptop).

  Here is the #1 question, for which I can't find a simple answer:

  1. do I need to install Windows on the MacBook Pro FIRST?

  I think it would be #1 FAQ - I don't want to buy Windows version - what if I do not, and if it must be previously installed before you run the merger, according to me, that I have to buy a new copy (I've updated the Compaq to a retail version of Windows XP Professional, but the used copy had been sitting in the envelope of shrinkage for years in the office... so there NOT all Service Packs.  The Compaq has the installed Service Pack.

  After buying a MacBook and a software to go with it, I'm good with purchase of merger (which looks like a top quality program) - but I REALLY don't want to buy Windows as well (it was not in my budget).

  I searched forums, FAQ, reviews, how - to, from, and there is no consistency to the installation methods.  Most seem to involve using what we call Boot Camp (I've heard of but I'm not familiar with, being a fairly recent Mac convert) to create a Windows partition using Windows Installer disk somehow.

  If it's true, I'm screwed and I have to pay for (I guess) Windows 7 and the basic versions probably do not work for me I am looking at a high price (if I can pass it to Win7 LATER... like 6 mos or so... that's fine, I just can't spend the money now).

  This post is much longer than the answer... I hope.  And if it is a simple 'yes' or 'no' PLEASE put in the FAQ; I have 2 neighbors that have not installed Windows when they moved to Mac recently for exactly the same reason - that they could not understand what the answer was to question my (and their).

  Teacher thank you very much for your kind comments.  After Google search on the subject, I just realized that I need to take the screen out and look at the brand and model number. to be sure to get the right screen.  Citing the HP part No. is of little use to third party vendors. I also contact a couple of sellers of ebag who also said the same thing. So I'll wait until the screen goes before taking it apart.

  Why not more (capacity)? 320 GB or 750 GB only $30 more. Check and update BIOS first. 2.5 "HDD are now much cheaper (I bought a 750 GB month last for $199 due to flooding in Thailand.) This week, the same as that is only $155). In fact, you can now buy 1 TB (9.5 mm thick).

  So now I have my new Tecra M4 (40th) and dismantled the old components. (except the motherboard - which was a 42nd)

  As I disassembled the unit, I saw, that the external VGA output is placed with the USB port on a small circuit, which is connected to the motherboard by the same kind of care, as the screen internal.

  Now, my bright idea is _disassemble my new M4 also, connect the display of my old M4 to the second Jack on the motherboard and assemble the two views in a new business House. _

  There is just one problem: I don't know if it works. Can I break my new mainboard, if I put this construction market?

  Hey Buddy. I think you're the first person who wants to try this I think nobody has tried this in the past and in my opinion it s not worth trying because of certain other risks!

  You can damage everything; motherboard, CPU, and other parts that are connected to the card.
  More air circulation would not properly work because of the other form of matter!
  So, this could lead to a higher temperature and some of the damage

  In my opinion you should not try this!

  I understand that you are having problems with upgrading the processor on your desktop Compaq Presario SR5010NX. Well well, according to the HP Support document: upgrade or replacement of the processor you have followed the steps correctly. The TDP for the original and intel processor Core 2 Duo E4300 1.80 GHz 2 M 800 MHz LGA775 processor are the two 65w so this isn't a problem. I suspect that you're right in that the new processor is faulty.
