Compaq Presario 6016US PMA Question

I recently acquired a Compaq Presario 6016US and would add an AGP DVI card so that I can use the computer with my LCD monitor.  I tried to find additional information on the motherboard, in particular the AGP slot some motherboards can run the AGP cards operating at 1.5 volts.  I have listed below the information I have on this computer.

Compaq Presario 6016US

AMD Athlon XP 1800 + (1.53 GHz) processor

1.0 GB of RAM (upgrade to 512 MB)

60.0 GB hard drive

DVD-ROM drive

CD - RW drive

Modem

3.5 floppy drive

NVIDIA GEForce2 integrated graphics with up to 32 MB shared memory

Audio integrated

In addition, I went under the hood and has collected the following information:

Markings on the motherboard: MS-6553 ver.1, N1996, Agency series CM0905

Any information welcome.  Thanks in advance.

Well, I took a gamble on the tension of the AGP slot, and put it in an old GeForce 3 Ti200 I had laying around.  It took like a charm.

  • Questions about upgrading a Compaq Presario CQ5205Y desktop computer system

    Good evening

I'm about to embark on my first serious upgrade of my computer, and I thought it would be a good idea to arrive before I get too far down the rabbit hole (and knocked out my Internet access).  What motivates the need to upgrade, it's that the system tends to lag when I programs using a lot of memory running and I think I can give him a decent boost on reasonably low budget.

I have a desktop PC Compaq Presario CQ5205Y Win7-64 bit without modification until running.  I'm lookin to upgrade the CPU and the RAM of the machine.  For ease of reference, here is the page describing the system:

    http://h20000.www2.HP.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/document.jsp?objectID=c01859812&lang=en&cc=us&Conte...

For the CPU, I found a good price on an AMD Phenom X 4 9750 2.4 GHz Quad-Core CPU (HD9750WCJ4BGH).  What I read, it meets the necessary criteria (socket AM2 + 95W, etc.).  I still need to determine if it needs a fan or non - language marketing indicates that it is not), but assuming that it works, here are my questions for this update:

1 should I update the BIOS on the card, or change one of its parameters to recognize the new chip?

    2. with regard to the installation, I think that it's pretty simple - unlock/remove the Semprom LE-1300 that is there now, carefully align the new processor Phenom X 4 (Golden to golden triangle triangle) and tighten in place. Then, if necessary, install the fan/radiator.  Is this correct, or am I missing something important and potentially catastrophic?

For the RAM, I have not bought, but I think I need barrettes 2x2gb DDR2 memory unbuffered, non - ECC memory.  I'm showing my ignorance here, but I imagine that rain is better in this case and is much better than the PC2-5300 memory PC2-6400.  If Yes, then maybe something like (or more affordable if I can find it):

    http://www.TigerDirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6252562&CSID=_61

Once again, a couple of very similar questions:

    1. do I need to change BIOS settings after I installed memory or if the automatic detection system?

    2. I swapped memory on other computers before so I guess that this motherboard is always the same - unclip/dethrone the existing memory, slide into the new and snap it in place.  Does this sound right?

In my view, which covers everything I know, but if anyone has any other advice or warning indication, they would certainly be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for help a beginner brave new waters.

    Processor:

    (1) no updated BIOS available for this model

    (2) more or less correct... you will need a HSF (heatsink & fan) for the new processor and a thermal paste. After the installation of the CPU, you apply the thermal is dedicated to the then install the HSF. The stock will be Sempron HSF to adapt and work but can not dissipate the extra heat

    (3) it is one of these models that will accept AM3 Athlon II and Phenom II CPU (see CPU upgrade in specs), but if it is supported depends on the revision of the motherboard and the BIOS version. Your choice of Phenom 9750 is a sure way to go

    Memory:

    (1) once again, no BIOS update available for this model

    (2) sounds right

    (3) you can look at Newegg.com best prices

  • Compaq Presario CQ60-210US pre-staged at level question

I have a laptop Compaq Presario CQ60-210US I intend to upgrade to Windows 7.  Right now it is running Vista 32 bit and 2 GB memory system.  I am considering upgrading to 4 GB in the future and I know that on systems with dedicated video memory, that should be the 64-bit version.

What I want to know, because the video chip takes his memory system memory and has no own dedicated memory, if she really wants to be worth upgrading to Windows 7 64 - bit during the upgrade to Windows 7 32 bit?

Well, if you want not to lose any only upgrade to 3 GB, it removes the BONE size and is used for the video if you put 4 GB, but you can still see an improvement over 3 GB.

I tried both on no specialized memory units and I saw a slight improvement with 4, nothing to wirte welcome words but I was running SW benchmarking.

So 3 GB and you lose nothing, 4 GB, you may lose half a GB.

  • Upgrade RAM Compaq Presario V3641AU questions

    Hey guys,.

Before you go out and buy little RAM to upgrade this aging laptop, I wondered how much RAM the system supports. I did some research on Google and find that some sources indicate 4 GB max, while others say 2GB maximum. I always imagined that it was a 2 GB max, but according to the following HP site it says 4 GB. If it's 4 GB I go and buy 2x2gb sticks otherwise will have 2x1GB sticks. Did anyone done this before?

    Thank you

PS: Can I use RAM that is clocked higher than the recommended that some of the stores sell not more than DDR2 667? A store near me sells DDR2 800, which will be OK to use?

    Hello:

Please see the manual on the link below.

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c01154809.PDF

    See Chapter 1, page 3.

Because your model has the AMD processor, you can install 2 x 2 GB of memory (4 GB) PC2-6400.

The manual says PC2-5300, but I know for a fact that the chipset can run at 800 MHz memory, so you can get the speed of the memory too much.

And even if it isn't, the memory PC2-6400 will just downclock to 667 MHz, so you have everything to gain and nothing to lose.

I have the same chipset in my dv6810us and I swapped memory 2 x 2 GB PC2 - 6400 and mine runs at 800 MHz.  I have the processor Turion TL-60.

Cheaper place to buy memory, IMO and here are my recommendations, FWIW.

  • About RAM compatibility...? HP Compaq Presario B2000

    Hello everyone,

First of all please forgive me for my lameness...

I have this old laptop that I use constantly up to now I have had NO problem/s which so than ever, except it requires upgrading memory, since it had 256 MB of memory when I bought it... I decided to update my ram at least 1 GB for my laptop to be more or less at par to the current requirements of modern software... Now my question is concerning the ram compatibility, I just wanted to ensure that the Rams are compatible since RAM DDR1 SODIMM are quite expensive compared to their DDR2 and DDR3 variants and once the Rams are purchased cannot be returned... more than info posted below...

Laptop: COMPAQ Presario B2000 (model: REPLACEMENT-L07C)

    s/n: KRD43404JD

    p/n: PE972PA #AB0

    Service: B2028AP

    OS: Windows XP

The only DDR1 SODIMM RAM available to my place where I live are:

    1. the TEAM Elite PC3200 DDR400 1 GB module

    2. TEAM Elite PC3200 DDR400 512 MB module

    Now my question:

1 are those DDR1 PC3200 RAM compatible with the laptop?

    2. If these Rams are compatible should I expect (1module) 1 gb ddr400 or (2modules) 512 mb ddr400 RAM to achieve a system of 1 GB of ram?

    3. I know it sucks but where I am from RAM DDR1 SODIMM are kindda rare and very hard to find.

Thank you that very very very much... and I hope to hear your words of wisdom... Thank you...

    You are the very welcome.

Analytical result image has not yet passed censorship HP.

I can't find anything on Crucial or Kingston of the site or the other, but I found this...

    http://www.upgradecomputermemory.com/RAM.cfm/memory/C/Compaq/Presario-notebook-memory/Presario-B-Series-notebook/Presario-B2000/

It's showing that this notebook can take up to 2 GB of memory (2 x 1 GB PC-2700 memory).

I don't know what to tell you. If it was me, I would buy only a single chip of 1 GB at a time to make sure it worked.

This place says that their memory is also guaranteed to be compatible.

  • Compaq Presario CQ5600F: upgrade to M2N68-(Narra6)

Hello. I have a desktop PC Compaq Presario CQ5600F which took a power surge. I use Windows 10 Pro and I'd like to update the Pegatron M2N68-(Narra5) motherboard M2N68-(Narra6). I saw some of these for the sale of the mobo. Can someone point me in the right direction. I'm trying to find the drivers and perhaps installation information. The motherboards I've seen are either used, rebuilt, or "other nine" with no accessories.

    Hi @stan7926,

Thank you for your participation in the Forums of HP Support! It is a great location to get resolutions and interact with experts from the community. I understand that you need information on an upgrade of the motherboard of your PC. I'll be happy to help you with this.

A remarkable work was done by your little research on upgrading motherboard for your desktop PC before you post your question in the forums of HP. It's always a great pleasure to work with tech-savvy and technically customers sounds like you. Kudos to you for this. I am amazed at your technical skills and levels of technical knowledge.

First of all, the specifications are very clear on the HP website. It supports "M2N68-(Narra5)" with the drivers, BIOS and other updates available on the HP Web site. About the upgrade to M2N68-(Narra6), it may be possible, but before you buy the product, I would suggest that you contact a technician on-site that this motherboard is not listed by HP as a compatible Web site.

I thank you greatly for posting your question on the forums of HP and for giving us the platform to help you. You are a customer of HP and we greatly thank you for doing business with HP.

It is important that you are having problems with the bios and driver incompatibilities on the motherboard and windows 10 Therefore, it is recommended that you contact a local technician and check the compatibility of the motherboard before making any attempt to improve it. We cannot have the bios for it and corresponding drivers. Once again, you will need to visit the websites of 3rd party hardware manufacturers to update the bios and other drivers.

I hope this helps! Please let me know how it goes. If it helps, please mark this message as 'accept as a Solution. If you need help, let me know and I will gladly do everything I can to help. If you want to say 'Thank you' for my efforts help, click on the button 'Thumbs Up' to give me a Kudos. I really hope that the problem is solved without hassle and things work fine for you.

Now carefully and have a great week ahead.

  • Compaq Presario CQ5300Y desktop PC - memory upgrade

Hello, everyone! I hope you are all well.

I have a desktop PC Compaq Presario CQ5300Y, to which I would like to upgrade the memory.

The product specifications indicate clearly that the motherboard, a M2N68-(Narra5), 2 x DDR2 memory media. (In addition, the amount of installed memory is 2 GB.)

The product specifications, in the information section of upgrade memory also mention the following:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Dual channel memory architecture
    Supports two DDR2 DIMM (240-pin)

    Supported DIMM types:

    PC2-5300 (667 MHz)
    PC2-6400 (800 MHz)

    Memory non - ECC, unbuffered
Supports DIMM DDR2 2 GB modules
Supports up to 4 GB * on 32-bit PCs
    * 32 - bit operating systems cannot resolve a full 4.0 GB memory.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm clear (with what the article said) I have only available two DIMM DDR2 2 brackets.

"What confuses me is the statement" ""supports 2 GB DDR2 DIMM '. This is the reason for my question.

"Supports 2 GB DDR2 DIMM" means that I have to use 2 GB DDR DIMM only, which means I can only go to 4 GB? Or could I use 4GB DDR2 DIMM, which breaks the barrier of 4 GB?

In a few words, I would like to - at least - 8GB (assuming that I find two modules DIMM DDR2 4 GB). Would it be possible to have the above configuration?

It is important to mention that the PC is running a 64-bit operating system.

I would appreciate the attention he can draw on this issue.

    Best regards.

    Hello:

Each slot of memory on the motherboard of your PC cannot accept that a maximum of one module of memory of 2 GB.

    1 x 2 GB will work.

    2 x 2 GB will work.

    1 x 4 GB will not work.

    2 x 4 GB will not work.

  • Compaq Presario SR5110NX: sr5110nx

    Hello community!

I am the proud owner of a Compaq Presario desktop computer. I bought it in 2007 - and is no longer under warranty. HP informs me that they no longer support my model. I currently have 10 Windows running in the system - having started with Vista, then Windows 7. Here's my question:

When I use tune to determine the drivers that I might need to update, the wizard identifies my system as something totally different, indeed a photo printer - with a strange product name and serial number.

How can I get the wizard to recognize my real name and serial number?

    Help, please!

    JimmyK1

HP Support Assistant won't help you since HP lists no Windows 10 driver for this model. I just want to remove HP Support Assistant and rely on Windows Update for all the new drivers and I seriously doubt all will be published here on out.

  • Compaq presario: Revamp

    Hi all

I'm looking for buy a new desktop HP, my Compaq presario, 5/6 year is very tired and needs a rest.

My question is can I reorganize and adapt a new hard drive to it and perhaps speed up a bit, if possibal I would keep just to attach a slide scanner to, then とらんすふぁ the images to my new Pavilion 500-515na (when I get it).

I'm not a computer tech and would like your advice.

    @RevJames

On the page of support for your system: Compaq Presario CQ5231UK desktop PC it seems that it is supported for Windows Vista and Windows 7. There is no specific drivers for Windows XP.

In this spirit, I would say that you look there: products HP - what happens if I do not see my operating system?

If the device you are looking at using doesn't have drivers for Windows Vista or Windows 7, you may try and see if you can get it to work in compatibility mode. It may be an option.  Install and use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7 - windows.microsoft.com

  • the upgrade of processor in compaq presario cq4010f

I have a desktop Compaq Presario CQ4010F running Windows 7 Home premium 64 with AMD sempiron chip factory, and I want to improve. I checked page plug product and learned that the motherboard is the manufacturer name: Pegatron M2N68 - LA (5 NARRATED), and HP/Compaq name: NARRA6 GL6. Then I checked the processor upgrade information and learned that it supports the image of socket AM2 + AMD Phenom II chip. I bought the AMD Phenom II X 4 940 3.0 GHz true quad design 8.0 MB total cache chip core. I've installed the chip, and while I was there, I added 1 GB of ram (leading to 3 GB total) just to be on the safe side. When I turned on the computer it tells me "unsupported processor' and turns off. I cursed loudly and ran things. Then I put the old chip in the back and it works fine. I checked the BIOS (the BIOS basic version: 6.0 BIOS revision: 5.54).  The new memory appears, so it's true.  I called a local computer repairman who did work for my mother in the past, and he told me that I have to upgrade the BIOS. I went to HP's download page, but there is no update of the BIOS for my machine. Then, I called 1 800 HP customer/tech support number, but had difficulty in communicating my problem because nobody speaks English as a first language. I cursed even louder and expelled more than things. My cat is still in hiding.

My question: How can I get this chip to work? I really need to upgrade the BIOS? If Yes, where can I get the said upgrade? If this is not the case, how can I get the current BIOS to recognize the new CPU? How to coax my cat (grey and white tiger striped, 2 years, version 4.5) out of hiding?

Help, please! I want to play Skyrim.

    Thank you!

You can post a screenshot of what you mean. ?
There should not be a difference between the two.

Computers HP don't require processors HP. The processors are manufactured by AMD and Intel.

Just compare the specifications of each against what you read in the text of presentation upgrade CPU on the portal of the web HP supported on your motherboard.
