Compaq presario owner, who lost recovery discs

Hi, a friend who bought a new v2000 Compaq Presario back in 2005/6 should reinstall its OS XP home.  He has no recollection of any recovery disks and there is no partition recovery using F don't numbers ect.  I said maybe we could buy a new copy of XP home on ebay however, the number of sticker COSTS on the back of his laptop computer also appears in the BIOS, before spend us money on a drive someone can confirm that it will work on the assumption that the seller provides us with a COA sticker and license number?

We tried HP/Compaq and they use now a third party (best2serve?) to solve questions of guarantee such as recovery discs, despite the many requests for assistance so that their web site seems to just be dead in the water.  My friend is willing to pay for drives but does not have to be from his pocket a copy of mickey mouse that is missed, it is not the kind of guy who wants to be illegal ect, any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

This site has a recovery disc for your computer http://www.restoredisks.com/default.aspx never used them but apparently they are reliable.  You may need to use the OEM key on the bottom of the laptop to activate so you make sure you get the correct version.

I have a hp g61-336nr win 7 64 bit laptop.  I lost the recovery disks that I created, sinuses, you can only burn 1 game is there a way to restore my os to factory since the recovery partition? cannot afford replacements of the order of hp rite now.

    Hello

There is a work around if you have (or can borrow) an installation disc Windows 7 at retail which is exactly the same version as your OEM installation - IE if your laptop comes with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, it comes to the retail version accurate, you would need.

Use the disk to perform the installation, enter the activation key Windows located on the underside of your laptop when requested and when the installation is completeuse the 'method of phone", described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want just a new installation of Windows 7 without additional software load normally delivered with OEM installations.

Contact HP and see what combination of keys at startup it probably gets to the factory defects.

Restore the PC to its original state with the HP Recovery Manager if Windows Vista is not accessible

If the computer does not start in Windows, it may still be possible to use the HP recovery disk to restore the computer to its original state. The Recovery Manager can be started during the boot process by following the steps below.
    1. Press on the button / stop to start the computer and press f11 when the standard BIOS guests appear on the black screen.
NOTE: by pressing the f11 key during startup on a computer with an image factory HP will start the system recovery process, even if the message is not displayed.

      • If the HP Recovery Manager can access the recovery on the hard drive partition, you receive a to back up user files before you start the recovery prompt. Follow the instructions.
      • If the HP Recovery Manager cannot access the hard disk to resolve system errors, you need to use the recovery disk custom that you created to recover the hard disk to its original state.
      • If you have not created the custom recovery disk, or disks are damaged, you can order a replacement of HP recovery CD.

    2. When the Recovery Manager starts, follow the instructions of recovery step by step , shown above.
Solve a common problem of recovery.
If the original operating system is changed to a non - Vista OS, the Recovery Manager cannot be launched either office or by pressing f11 at startup. You can use the recovery disk to restore the computer to the original state of Vista. If you are using a non - Vista OS, you can use a third-party partition management program to recover hard disk space.

Or try to order a new recovery discs...

    Maybe this article:
    http://www.ZDNet.com/blog/Bott/lost-your-Windows-discs-how-to-get-replacement-media-legally/4320

HP has a simple recovery process, and its policy to provide filtering alternatives is well integrated in its support pages.

I went through the process of replacing for a two-year-old HP Pavilion Elite m9600t. This system was built in the summer 2009, before Windows 7 shipped. As a result, my only option was to support Windows Vista 64-bit. For first class mail, HP shipping or taxes added up to $15.80. (I might have updated 2-day or night FedEx delivery for another $6 or $12, respectively.)

From this page: HP and Compaq Desktop PC: looking for recovery discs?

There step by step instructions to create a recovery disc for Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP. Also, it offers the possibility to order replacement disks, but warns that these discs may only be available for a limited time:

If you are unable to create a set of recovery discs, you may be able to order a set of replacement of HP HP discs. maintains an inventory of recovery disks of replacement several years after the product was released. However, due to licensing restrictions, HP is able to provide these recovery disc for a limited time. If the computer is several years after its warranty period, HP isn't maybe able to provide replacement for your computer disks.

I tried with a model of 2008 HP (long out of warranty) and was able to locate filtering alternatives.

The process of media control was a little confused. The key is to start with the appropriate model number, then click on software and driver downloads, as shown here:

On the next page, you are prompted to select an operating system. The support link to recovery in the results list is available only if you select the version of Windows that your computer initially comes with. If you do not see a section "Recovery media", HP suggest "to ensure that you are on the right model number page and select another operating system." It worked for me.

Interestingly, the last section on the page is titled "finding of the recovery disks from other Web sites. It contains a warning at the top in bold: try all other options in the paper support before attempting to order recovery disks at outside HP.

If HP is further providing the recovery disc for your computer model and is no longer possible to create a recovery disk, you may be able to find a solution outside of HP.

Popular online auction sites and providers of computer parts may have a part in stock original recovery disk. However, be cautious and aware of the risks when buying from a source outside of HP recovery disks. Beware of sites that offer recovery solutions when they are not affiliated with HP.

Even if HP could not have a recovery disc available for purchase of value, search the part HP command Web site to find recovery kit part number that corresponds to your computer. Once you find the part number of the recovery disc, use the number in your search for best results.

It's actually good advice. If you can find a part number, you may be able to find records of replacement from a legitimate outside vendor that specializes in parts for the models of the manufacturer of your PC.

  • Issue of upgrade CPU laptop (Compaq Presario)

    Hello

Can someone please confirm that my Compaq Presario B1223TU, who has a processor Intel T5250 CPU can be upgraded to the Intel T9500 (Penryn) 2.6 GHhz.

I already installed the latest version of BIOS 68MSU f.0Une on my computer.

After checking the site Web of Compaq to my computer here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-57986-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&...

In the correction and improvement of article he States: "adds support for new Intel processors.

What exactly are these new Intel processors because it is not clear? It's the BIOS version 68MSU ROM. F05

I guess that means it supports the new Penryn T9500, T8100, T8300 and T9300 processor, but I'm not sure.

I also found this site selling retail who says that it is supported as well for my particular laptop but it does not include the Intel T9500: http://www.ambry.com/page/modelnu/GS111PA/463050-001.html

Can someone please confirm that the T9500 is a possible upgrade for me. Thank you.

  • Compaq Presario cq62: can someone explain why you need recovery disc?

Look, I want to buy a new drive hard because one broke, and when I install it on my pc (I'll have to recovery disk)? or I can install windows instantly?

    Hello

Broke is a term very vague for a HARD drive, and if the HARD drive has some life left in it, then a clone may be possible.

You do not have need of recovery disks, you can return your system to factory fresh, but change to another OS you have it means you don't need the recovery disc.

As explained the situation with the drivers and applications means that you struggle to get a stable system, and the new approach factory denies all this trouble.

If there is life in the old disk HARD a game of media recovery can be able to produce from it, perhaps a clone would also give this option, but only a remote possibility.

  • Compaq Presario SR1150NX: Error, disk Compaq recovery dead

Hello, I have a desktop Compaq Presario SR1150NX of 2005. Everything works well in it and we emptied dust not for long. But then, one day I went to start it it says a critical system file was missing. I'm confused at first. After half an hour, creating a USB disk only to find it didn't work, I then had to use the Windows XP Recovery Console. Then after I fixed it it still didn't start because it couldint find the file. But when I start the computer, it shows me that, if I press F10, it boots into system recovery mode. OT started and told me that I could boot into windows xp system recovery. But in the middle of this, the computer overheats and shuts down. When I tried to turn it on again it gave me a disc error AND when I boot in recoervy, it's just bluescreens. Now when I turn on the computer, it does nothing.

Is there any where where I could download a recoervy tool to open the hard drive in order to get the data on the drive and get a new drive? Or get a Windows recovery disc?

    Any help is the Apprecited!

Remove the disk from the desktop.

    Buy

    USB 2.0 for HDD SATA/IDE adapter 2.5/3.5/5.25IN drives w / adapter

    See: http://www.ncix.com/detail/usb2-0-to-sata-ide-drive-adapter-a3-17762.htm

and connect your hard disk with this adapter to a USB port on your computer.

When you connect, Windows will ask your permission to run 'check disk' ('CHKDSK') to review and fix any problem of file system.

I think that the corrupt currently-system files on the hard drive is causing startup problems you reported.

Re-connect the desktop "repaired" disk drive, and then try again.
