Compatibility processor PowerEdge R320

Our 'old' PER320 (rack mount) is "seriously too taxed" because he still has the processor 'stock' E5-2407 2.2 GHz quad-core XEON installed.  As it is now, the owners are a little reluctant to replace this server, so I need to 'upgrade' this bad boy as much as possible (I know, I know... with all THE possible improvements that cost almost as much as a brand new server - but I'm just the 'nerd' and it is not always necessary to listen to what WE recommend...).   So I was looking for an upgrade of the processor "affordable"... (at least for now until my "reasoning" met more receptive ears).  -I know the PER320 supports normally E5-2400 series that this motherboard supports these "out-of-the-box" and I watched E5-2440 (hexa-core) and E5-2470 (octal-core) and the prices are not really as bad as I could have initially planned ($$), but I just of pinned an E5-2470 V2 (which is a deca- core - nice! 10 carrots and hyper-threading too..?) who SEEMS to have very similar as the E5-2470 and is available locally for this I think is a remarkably cheap cost (it's good to have friends in the "refurb" and 'lease-back', probably..).  Therefore, depending on the provider, this "smart" is "tested and verified" fully operational, after having been removed from a server rack "damaged" just last week.  But is there something on this chip, I'm not aware that he could relate to the PER320?  Or maybe something I'm just 'ignore' in my drive to some "sperm" in this server... ?  Maybe I just dream that this can actually work in the R320... (?) I have to do something... this server is just TOO slow and Moody...

BTW: the RAM has been improved in the PER320 to 32 GB, and all four hard drives were recently replaced by bigger, faster than since records they. by 'saturation' previous storage in just two years.  (but "... to buy a NEW server..?")  None...  We have not just buy this one... ? »)

Hello

billezinn
E5-2470 V2 (which is a deca- core - nice! 10 carrots and hyper-threading too..?) who SEEMS to have very similar characteristics as the E5-2470
billezinn
is there something on this chip, I'm not aware that he could relate to the PER320?

E5 V2 - 2470 is posted to work in the R320. I'm not aware of all requirements outside of an update of the BIOS to make it functional. I recommend the everything system update before installing the CPU.

Thank you

    Hello everyone

We bought a new Poweredge R320 server in order to install 64-bit Windows Server R2. There are 2 drives inside and they are preconfgured as raid1.

I changed the configuration of SATA in RAID mode and also initialized by PERC-H310 RAID1 without any problem. When the server starts up, I see the following messages.

  • New server PowerEdge R320 + 2 x 500 GB

    Hello

I have new PowerEdge R320 with HARD 2 x 500 GB disc. But now, I'm a little confused how I can install Windows on this server?

I need, but these in RAID1 mode HARD drives. I checked that mode is SATA and H310 integrated RAID controller is on and I created virtual disk RAID1. But when I run the install with Windows 7 or 2008 R2, I can't find the HARD drive more. I tested a lot of driver that I can found in the support site, but nothing.

If I change the SATA RAID mode then I can use H110 virtual RAID? But I can't create it virtual disk or RAID1. There I found the drivers, but I can't then do RAID1.

    So what I missed?

You need drivers for the H310:
    http://downloads.Dell.com/FOLDER02416328M/2/SAS-RAID_Driver_W2K8R2_D5N8T_A06_6.802.21.00_ZPE.exe

Download and run it to extract the files before use, then put the files on a USB flash drive and click on the link to load the driver on the Setup screen where readers would normally be disclosed.

Let onboard SATA mode SATA or ATA (non-RAID) - it is only for the DVD player.

PS: I posted the same topic in the forum "Blade" by mistake. Apology.

"Do you mean that if my BIOS/SATA configuration has been set to RAID 1 I should have drivers chipset/AHCI for a successful installation?"

No, because you are not using the onboard SATA RAID - your built-in SATA is used ONLY by your optical drive, so it should not be in RAID and AHCI usually requires special drivers, which is not required when you use optical drives.  However, pilots of chipset/AHCI may have helped Windows to see the optical drive in such a way that the installation could proceed (if she needs the RAID controller for real hard disks, you will NOT see this particular message - you will see another message when Windows cannot find not all drives to be installed on).

"When someone would set RAID 1 for sata configuration?"

ONLY if you use the S110 RAID controller onboard.  You use the H310, so you don't want to mess with the SATA RAID on board.

  • Upgrade processor PowerEdge SC1430

    I have a SC1430 with the processor Xeon 5110 (dual core 1.6)

I bought a X 5355 (quad core 2.66) because it was on a few lists of processors supported, some on these forums.

But when I installed the processor that it displayed but then stopped, saying it was incompatible.

I went back to google and found a post saying that there are different versions of the card mother sc1430 and old does not support the hearts. But then another message saying there aren't any different revisions of the motherboard and you just need to update the firmware. Ive updated the BIOS to 1.4, but this still does not work. I then found a third post saying 'I' (printed on the front panel) version only supprts demspey and woodcrest and that 'II' also supports clovertown.

I think I discovered that the x 5355 does not work with my computer, but it would be good if someone could resolve the confusion that I know which is the cpu, compatible for my SC1430.

    Thank you

Support for the quad-core on the SC1430 Clovertown processors requires a map of most recent revision system, is not simply an update of the BIOS to add Clovertown support to the original system board that has been released.

There are also minimum BMC and BIOS revisions that are needed to support the Clovertown CPUs. There are minimum version requirements based on the CPU stepping.

Systems shipped with a motherboard that supports the Clovertown processors will have a Roman numeral two on the right side of the collar.

  • PowerEdge R320 - S110 PERC upgrade to PERC H710

I installed a H710 PERC integrated in my R320, which originally shipped with the S110 PERC.  The controller recognizes the 2nd virtual disk, but not the first, which is the boot drive.  It just shows that the 2 discs unconfigured.  Both work very well when I plug the cable into the S110.  What Miss me?

    Hello

Between the S110 and H710 RAID migration is not supported. You will need create new virtual disks on the H710.

  • PowerEdge R320 cable for SATA?

    Hi all

I recently bought a new (ok, almost new 'store') R320 server, that happened and seems to be wired to the SATA drives (non - hot). No hard drives have been included in the system - I was aware of this ;-)

I also have two Dell 2 TB NearLine SAS / 6 GB/s / 7.2 k / 3.5 HD ... so my question is, what exact cable I need to buy & replace, so that I can use these SAS drives in my system which is already wired for SATA?

What I read, the controller integrated PERC H710 supports SATA and SAS, then is it just a matter of buying the SAS cable and its connection to the SAS_A on the H710 port?

    Thanks in advance

    -Patrick

    Guys,

Is the possible consolidation of NETWORK cards? I would have thought that it is something that would be fairly simple with the right driver.

The Windows Installer process request a CD/DVD driver. We have no CD driver and we did not found a DVD driver on the support sites.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you for the help

    Stephan

Try disabling the S110 controller built into the BIOS.

You can also try loading the drivers for this controller during the installation.

If none of the above works, your installation media is likely bad.
