I gave my pc to somone to look to the he tried not to turn on he opened it removed cleaning my thermal paste back on and told me it was working fine.

  I agree with the upgrade to windows 8.1 as the origin of the problem. If you check the video card, you will see that it is a 3000 graphics card intel.   I suggest that you reset the default monitor settings using the buttons available on the computer screen and check if that helps.

  You can also connect another monitor to the computer to check if the monitor is defective.
