  • Why my Cinema Display keep blacking out?

I've scoured the questions here and don't have none managed to find an answer to my question.  I have a Cinema Display 24 ".  I bought it when I got my end of 2009 Mac Pro.  I downloaded El Capitan, when it first came out, and as far as I know, I have the latest update installed (10.11.2).  My problem started happening a few weeks ago.

At least once a day, the screen goes black.  The only way I could get the picture is by disconnecting and reconnecting again.  Sometimes, I have to do this many times before it works.  It will sometimes come back normal, but quite often, when I get the picture, it's the drive (white areas appear gray).  In addition, the menu bar top is grayed out (which is how it should appear on my secondary display.  When I click on the drop down monitor, the menu bar returns to the way it should be. The drop-down menu shows that "Separate use as display" is checked.

Could this be a faulty power cord?  What is the cable connected to the Tower?  How can this be repaired?

    Hello there, NowhereMan.

Looks like you are having intermittent problems with your Cinema Display turns off.  The following Knowledge Base article offers some good recommendations to consider for troubleshooting:

Get help with graphical problems on external displays connected to your Mac.

    Before you start

You can solve many problems of display by updating the software on your Apple devices, cables and adapters. If you see an image on your screen, look for the software updates using the Mac App Store:

    1. Connect your external display and Apple video cables or cards that you use with it.
    2. In the Apple menu, click App Store.
    3. Click updates in the window of the App Store.
    4. Install OS X updates or firmware are listed.

If you use a display, hub, extenders or adapter not made by Apple, check with the manufacturer for updates that might be available.

If you try to connect a screen 4 K or Ultra HD TV with your Mac, make sure that your computer meets the requirements for the use of these external displays.

If your firmware and software are up to date, or if you don't see the image on your screen, try the steps below for your specific problem.

If the image is empty or unusable

If you don't see the image on your screen, try these steps. These steps can also help if the image on your screen repeatedly turns on and off (flashes), if horizontal lines appear (snow), or if the picture is distorted (torn or scrambled mode).

These likely steps will not help if the problem occurs only in a single application. If you see similar problems in a single window or app, check with the developer of the app for more help or updates.

    Check the connections

Check the connections on your Mac and external screens:

    • If you use an Apple laptop computer, try to connect the AC adapter.
    • Make sure that the power cable from the external display is connected correctly and that your display is enabled.
    • If you are using a Mac Pro (end of 2013), make sure that your screens are plugged into the right ports.
    • If you use a hub of display, Cabinet or "KVM", try to connect the video cable from your screen directly to your Mac instead.
    • Unplug the video cable where it plugs into your Mac, then reconnect to reinsert the connection.
    • If you are using a video card, unplug the video adapter on your Mac, then reconnect to reinsert the connection.
    • If you use multiple video cards to connect your screen (the cards are "chained"), testing connection of the screen by using a single adapter if possible. Some video cards may not be linked together. For example, a mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter may not be connected to an adapter DVI to HDMI.
    • If your screen has more than one video connection, see if you are using another connection on the display works. If possible, check if you use a different view or a different adapter works.
    • Try using another cable that you know to be in working condition. Check with the manufacturer of the screen to make sure that you use the cable they recommend.

    Detect your display

If you use an external monitor, sleep and wake your Mac to check for connected screens:

    1. Press the power button on your computer to standby, or choose the Apple menu > sleep.
    2. Wait a few moments, and then press a key on your keyboard or click your mouse or trackpad to wake up your Mac.

If you use more than one screen, and you can see the image on one of the screens, you can also use the preferences monitors to check the connected screens.

    {...}

    Get more help

If you have tried these steps and your screen still does not work, contact the Apple support for more help.

Thank you for reaching out to the communities of Apple Support.

    Kind regards.

  • Random computer screen Black-out / turn off.

    Hello

first is my laptop: HP Pavilion dv6-6160se Entertainment Notebook

    the problem now

A few days ago my laptop screen started off sudden shutting down/turn black (no lights at all). This was happening when using the laptop randomly. The screen had no lights, and if I use a flashlight on it there is nothing. like his turned to the wide completelly.

Before that happens. THS behavior varies. Sometimes, she Shimmers from my office to a black screen then back on and sometimes not. Most of the time screen replaced by a green of radom (for most) and then goes black / shuts down.

NOTE: The laptop keeps runing, I can hear the videos playing then it is probably not a chip gpu or problem gpu, music and games.

I searched on the web for all sorts of reasons this could happen and tried a few fixes.

Here's what I've tried and all or the details I could accumulate in Cup for days:

    1. If the screen flickers, turns off and then turns on I get a message that gpu drivers stopped working and valued (on amd and intel).

    2. If the screen turns off, on the rare occasions if you close the lid of the laptop and leave the laptop to go to sleep, when to wake up to the screen works again (noticeable because of the screen moving)

    3. I tried to install 4 different drivers, all with clear install. (did not work)

    4. I tried to recover the system with the restore point. (did not work)

    5. I tried to turn down the brightness of the screen. (did not work)

    6 tried this trick:

    1. Turn off the laptop
    2. Remove the battery
    3. Hold the power buttong for 30-45 seconds
    4. Plug the charger (do not put the battery in)
    5. Turn on the laptop and see if it works.

    Very sensitive details:

    7. given that on rare patches requires to move the lid I tried to shake the screen a little or by slightly pushing from different directions. Actually, this does the trick and back lights up the screen (I have right now typing this after using this 'trick')

So, with this as a hint, there are a few things that I have in mind but I don't know and need help because I am not a technician.

    (a) there is a LCD cable and when I hit a small vibration upped it and ends in a black screen.

    (b) I have read that if you use a flashlight and you can't see your desktop he means that it is a bad converter.

    (c) the inverter can cause a cabe lose instead of the LCD?

It's all the comments that I could give you that I remember now.

Currecntly the screen seems ok (this is the angle of sure there once I moved it and I would aprecciate quick response until it goes black again so maybe)

EDIT: Tried to play a game for a few minutes and I got the black screen again. Closed the lid and the laptop goes into mode 'sleep' then opened it and it worked. Just for the records.

EDIT #2: Just tried to play a game again. got the blackscreen, shaked the screen a little bit and it worked, but for the 1st time that I get the message "the demand has been blocked access to the graphics hardware," it may be it's the GPU after all or drivers maybe?

EDIT #3: Tried to replay a game and it seems to trigger the problem. (I am currently under the laptop with only drivers intel installed)

    Thanks in advance

    Sincerely,

    NTAS

    Hi @Ntas

I read in your post and it seems there are two possibilities, and I noticed that you have already tried several things that I would normally say.

I will, however some of these links post anyway for you to review, it is still possible, there may be something in one of them that have been missed or can inspire an idea of the cause. Since you mentioned that sometimes simply move the screen will cause the problem or do disappear, that seems like a loose connection, or maybe something like a pressure on one part of the screen, causing the problem.  Of course, that last part may simply mean that the display is not to his last breath, but if all goes well.

First I will give you a link for the service manual to help you control connections. Just be careful to read the sections on precautions, protect you and to prevent further damage. This manual is also useful in that it lists all compatible parts, so if the display is faulty you can use this guide to help control a compatible replacement if you choose to do so. • Safari hangs and lags while watching the video on youtube

While watching therapy Unbox videos, the video hangs and lags. What's weird, is that only Unbox GAL of video therapy and I have not had this problem with any other channel. Confused! Help!?

    Try a reboot.

Make a backup using Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure that data files can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try to set up another admin user account to see if the same problem persists. If back to my Mac is enabled in system preferences, the guest account will not work. The intention is to see if it is specific to an account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolate a problem by using a different user account

If the problem is still there, try to start safe mode using your usual account.  Disconnect all devices except those necessary for the test. Shut down the computer and then put it up after a 10 second wait. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the SHIFT key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. Startup is considerably slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a check for directory and disables all start-up and connection, among other things. When you restart normally, the initial restart may be slower than normal. If the system is operating normally, there may be 3rd party applications that pose a problem. Try to delete/disable the third-party applications after a reboot using the UN-Installer. For each disable/remove, you need to restart if you do them all at once.

With 13 items first, on Windows 7 64 bit, I try to put an end to a video with a fade to black transition.  For some reason, it fades to black and then return.  Yes, I have tried all three ways, left and right between the two, but the computer keeps fading out and then in.  And yes the transition is at the end of the clip.

You can post a screenshot of what you see when the Dip to black rocking stops on your Timeline?

  • My iPad is dying? It keeps sending me back to the homepage while watching what either.

My iPad IS dying? Continues to send me back to the home screen while watching what it's online.

    Hi Umeggie,

Thanks for checking out the Apple Support communities! I understand that you are having problems with your iPad closing Safari and you return to the home screen. I use my iPad all the time for browsing with Safari, so I can understand how this can be a problem for you and am happy to provide suggestions.

The first thing that I recommend you do is try to reboot your iPad.

    How do I restart

    1. Press and hold the sleep/wake button until the Red slider appears.
    2. Drag the slider to turn off your device completely off.
    3. Once the device turns off, press and hold the sleep/wake button again until you see the Apple logo.

The next step you can take is to try closing the Safari app and try he raises. You will find the steps below. You can also test this on another Wi - Fi network (if you have one available) to make sure that there is not a problem with the Wi - Fi network to which you are connected.

Force a nearby application on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

The next step that I recommend is to reset your settings. This does not erase any of your data, but I recommend you save it just to be sure. You can find the steps for the backup of the below. To reset your settings, you will need to go to settings > general > reset > reset all settings. This will not erase any personal data of contacts, applications or pictures, but it will do the following: reset the restrictions de-register you FaceTime and iMessage, delete contact ID & password, remove Pay Apple cards, reset the wallpaper, brightness, sound, date & time. It deletes also all Wi - Fi network connections, so you'll need your Wi - Fi password to restore the link.

The backup of your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

    Take care!

  • FF freezes my computer while watching videos. What do I do?

    Hello.
Yes, for some time now, Firefox keeps the gel my computer while watching videos on YouTube or streams on Twitch.
It started a few weeks back & I couldn't solve the problem, I changed my Chrome. But I don't like it, so yesterday, I decided to go back to my fav browser: Firefox.

But my problem is: when I watch a video, my browser always keeps freezing my entire MacBook. It starts with the video just stop but continues to go audio for about 10 to 20 seconds. Then I can't move the cursor and finally the noise dies and nothing does not react anymore. I can not even open the activity monitor, or do something else. So the only possibility for me to come back and do stuff is hard reset my laptop and start again.
This just happened to me twice in the two last & 4 or 5 times in the last 24 hours... I'd really appreciate if someone could point me to a solution.

Oh and I'm on OS X 10.10.2 using Firefox 36.0.1 (but this happened also on before 35.x). Hardware acceleration is disabled & flash is on its last version. Cache was emptied several times as well.

Accidents or other problems with some multimedia content in Firefox (for example, videos from YouTube and Flash animations or games) can often be solved by doing as in these Knowledge Base articles:
