Computer sees no 2nd hard drive

I have installed 2 new hard drives in my laptop, but when I go into my computer I see my main HDD, why is my other hard drive in the Bay of 2nd not displayed?

It is probably empty and no will appear in Windows Explorer (my computer) up to partitioned, formatted and mounted. If it's a laptop with 2 drives I'll guess it's either a dv9000 or a model dv7 and you have Vista. Right-click on computer and select Manage then disk management. You should be able to initialize and format and mount the drive, so it has a drive letter, and then you can access it from Windows Explorer.

I tried to install the old disk until the 2nd hard drive but the system does not recognize it.

    Any help would be welcome.

    Thank you

Hello and yes I have an answer.

Also, I had a second drive win 7 ult and it went out to install in my new 8700 XPS thing is that I already formatted the disk to work to the point 8.1. He came to light, a UEFI system installed, may fail to start if a secondary drive is attached that contains logical partitions. Of course, this should be an MBR disk configured, but if it has at least one primary and one extended partition, it will stop Windows 7 and Windows 8 start.

To correct this test facility 2nd main drive, then use a boot disk to get the computer running then access the disc to remove files.

  • 7010 OptiPlex desktop computer - adding a 2nd HARD drive?

Is there place, in the case of funds 7010 for a 2nd hard drive?  And any other necessary mounting material is none other than the screw, then an additional SATA cable?

    Thank you

    Robert

    Bardi

There are four different versions of the Optiplex 7010, Mini-Tower, desktop, Small Form Factor and the Ultra Small Form Factor.

Assuming you have the desktop version and not the minitower.

The desktop version, can support a 3.5 "or 2 x 2.5" SATA drives.

You will need a basket of 3.5 "x 2 x 2.5" hard drive, plus one SATA data cable and possible a SATA Y power splitter.

  • 2nd hard drive install on pavilion dv7-3060us 17.3 inches with Quad core processor

Pavilion dv7-3060us computer has a 2nd hard drive Bay.  On 2 flags of 17.3 inches previous, I installed a 2nd HDD.  This quad core Pavilion is much thinner than the previous pavilions;  the underside of the computer has also a centre piece in the form of "T" in the Panel without screw - is a pop on the access panel or the entire bottom panel needs to be removed through the perimeter screws?  Still trying to find a manual showing this particular case - no luck so far.  The downloaded HP

Manual for the previous dv-7 is for the case of style like unless I missed something.

Install an SSD soon - would like to have all the "stuff" to install a 2nd drive hard if possible.  Anything I should be aware of before perform this procedure?  Don't really want to remove all the merits of the case.

Thanks for any help that can be provided.

I appreciate the help.  The Caddy is the same that I used before (on the 1st dv7) the 2nd dv7 used the direct taking of 90 degrees into the adapter.  I have both of these me more allotted a 500 GB HD.  All I need pickup is the SSD.

The "T" sign on the back of my case has no screws - but I can see the 3 component tabs snap at the top of the "T" through the small crack on the case.  These are shown on the exploded view of repair.  I'm projecting from the 'snap-out' Panel down on the vertical leg of the "T".

  • 2nd hard drive appearing is not in my computer

My 2nd hard drive is not appearing in my computer.  The hard drive was a slave, that I took from my old xp machine after it crashed.  I had installed in my new vista machine before and it worked, but then I had to reinstall the operating system and since then he did not appear.  I double checked to make sure, it has been defined as a slave drive and it is.  It appears in the Bios, Device Manager and in disk management, but not in my computer.  Nothing is appearing as unallocated in disk management and the player said his good health.  In the Device Manager, it says the device is working properly.  I tried to give him just a drive letter in the management of records, but when I right click on it the only option I have is help.  I also tried to update the drivers, he says that they are up-to-date.  I tried deactivation and activation of the hard drive.  I even tried to uninstall.  When I rebooted, it detects and reinstalled the drivers, but I still can't get it to appear in my computer.

    Alw179,

so I assume you are using the new Windows 7 for this post.

Proposal of John Doe has worked for me. This is how do you a little more in detail:

step 1: Windows 'Start menu '.

Step 2: SPECIFY the, "disk management" in the box "search programs and files" at the botom

step 3 find and RIGHT click on the hard drive in the list that program shows.

step 4: select 'Change Drive Letter and paths '.

step 5: click Add and make sure that ASSIGN it THE FOLLOWING DRIVE LETTER: bubble is selected and then use the drop-down menu to select a drive letter, do not use it.

    step 5: click OK

step 6: complete, you should have something pop up indicates that your hard drive is available to show.

    I hope this helps.

    Success!

I think it was just plugging in the cable needed to be reinstalled.

I confirmed that the drve was good with an external cable.

I made the stop while holding down the SHIFT key.

    Once it did not work.

Then I took out the cable and put it back making sure to he went in the port exactly how is HDD - 1.

This time, he appeared in the windows Device Manager. I already made the partition, format, assign the drive letter.

Everything is good to go now. I'm glad, that I have a lot of storage space on my laptop.

Thanks for the suggestions, have a nice day.

    Hello!

Have you tried the Drive Fitness Test as suggested Akuma? You can check the HARD drive for bad sectors.

CHKDSK isn't identical to the DFT and it can t detect errors on the HARD drive. Please run DFT to determine if the problem is the HDD, or not associated with.

  • Pavilion 550-306no - for the 2nd HARD drive expansion slot?

    While thinking about replacing my old HP tractor, I browsed around the shop online for a possible new unit;

Seems there is a box called Pavilion 550-306no, sold here in Sweden, which could meet my needs.  However, does anyone know if there is room (or not) for a 2nd HARD drive? Seems all the guides of the old user on how to develop yr PC in the forum of textbooks have been nuked.

    Concerning

    Hello

The Specifications for the 550-306no indicate that it is not put into service for a disk hard 3.5 "2nd.  Review the information in the computer case.

Some models will allow a 2.5 "HD or SSD to add.  See the image below.

According to the amount of space available between the existing hard drive and the motherboard, you might be able to mount another HD using 3.5 media ".  Those that I had recommended in the past are now $40 (ouch).

In any State of cause, assuming that you have installed a hard drive was bought, it would be empty and needs be initialized (mounted) and formatted. To find computer or this PC in the right click menu... Choose manage, disk management and you will see a Visual representation of the hard drives. Good morning and good night to all

I was wondering if a G6U51UA or M7-k111dx laptop computer may have installed or has space for a 2nd hard drive?

I also noticed that the memory can be upgrade to 16 GB curretly comes with 12 GB

    concerning

That space for a 2.5 inch SATA hard drive. Here is the Manual:

    M7 manual

There is a port of WSSD m2 where you can install a tiny bit hard drive (small in size but very fast and if you have the males can be great in quality). See Page 71. This is not an easy task and requires the removal of the motherboard.

It can take 2 x 8 = 16 GB of RAM, but it is much easier to install than the hard drive of the WSSD m2.

  • DV7-4280us - Bay of disk HARD 2nd vacuum has no visible connection to a 2nd HARD drive.

My laptop Pavilion DV7 and previous DV8 had two bays for HARD drives, one of them wired to a hard drive, but not containing is not a hard disk at the time of purchase.  I expect the same thing when I ordered this Pavilion DV7-4280us, which is, I think, made in China, but I have not the same.  This one came without visible connectors for the hard drive, I had already bought to install into the empty Bay.  My Technical Support call made me advice to buy a disc kit hard (with caddy & connections) from HP, as if the receive connectors were available in the drive Bay HARD vacuum.  I didn't not agree because (and the next two paragraphs I added so that the well-intentioned forum members continue to give me the standard answer for laptops which actually have the usual connectors & waiting in the drive Bay HARD 2nd vacuum.  I appreciate the two forum members who have offered help so far, but there is no need to waste more based on my failure to clarify the problem):

There is NO METAL NAKED INTO THE BAY VOID that COULD CONNECT a HARD disk.
UNLESS A NEW CONNECTOR GOES TO THE MOTHERBOARD HARD DRIVE, IT IS USELESS FOR THIS COMPUTER.

Each HARD drive connector I've seen only connects the HARD drive to a connector in the HARD drive Bay.

The connector of the latter reaches the motherboard, and that the connector does not exist in this 2nd computer HARD disc Bay.

Even if I could get a cable to connect a HARD drive to an unused connection & waiting on the M-Board, I can't M-Board.  M-Board is inside a barrier which could be called the bottom of the laptop - external surface of the portable computer.  (Battery and bays for HARD drives are outside the confines of the current computer, the value in their own hollow spaces in the bottom panel, with secondary coverage on the hollow spaces, i.e. the bays for HARD drives and storage media).  I looked for a way really open the casing and expose the M-Council connection for 2nd HARD drive (IF it exists); but I didn't know how to do it.  It is clear to me that this is not intended to be a facility run by the user. But I would if HP (or maybe even a 3rd party who made it) provided some good instructions.

I'd like to think that HP did not make this change to the line DV7 laptops to double HARD drive, and that the Chinese manufacturer made the change without approval or even knowledge of the management of HP.  I want to believe that because he was, at best, a really stupid thing for HP to the customers who pay for the best HP can provide.

So my questions are the following:

    1. The motherboard in this computer still has the ability to manage a 2nd hard drive?
    2. If 'NO', then HP would be willing to take over this very disappointing computer in Exchange to a DV7 which is equipped with HARD drive connectors available in the 2nd, empty, Bay?
    3. If 'YES', then
    4. HP or someone else would be willing to provide connectors, and instructions for me,
    5. OR install the missing connection to the drive for me, Bay
    6. While, in both cases 4 or 5, I can install a HARD drive in the Bay, empty 2nd drive reasonably, I expected when I ordered this computer?

All my apologies and thanks to KaLin0908, who responded so quickly and helped me realize that my original description was not clear enough.  I hope that my changes to clarify the problem have not ruined the tone of my call.  I'm aiming for "clear and grateful."  If this revision reads as Loud or Yelling or abrasive or anything else bad, I'd appreciate any suggestions to improve it.

    I have the same computer.

At first seems like you say but

If you look carefully the second Bay of hd, you will see 4 small holes

Those who are for the hard drive caddy, you can buy that and it's expensive

You should also buy a hd cable, but be careful, there must be about 5 inches long

The cable for 1 hard disk does not work

One end goes on the hard drive and the other going to the MB. The connection is planned

    for the memory modules

The kit costs about $ 45. If bought at hp and about 35 if purchased by another company

    http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?Main_Page=product_info&products_id=345

This will give you an idea of where/how the screws connect to the caddy

    4. connect the hd to the caddy /ssd

    4. connect the housing inside the laptop

    Hello

    1. don't you make changes on the computer before this problem?
2 - is an internal hard drive?

Step 1: Check if hard driver is getting detected in Device Manager and send back the same.

I don't know where you're going safely mount a second hard drive in it. If you need an additional SATA power cable, you have a power cable 4 white pin (molex) unused?
