Computer stolen

Microsoft to suspend the license of windows for the stolen computer, is 'useless' to the thief?

All I have is the serial number and model number. If this can be useful? I can also forward the purchase receipt

Hello uche_nkwocha,

Unfortunately, it is not possible to turn off Windows on the computer.

Windows is enabled on the computer based on the hardware for the machine ID and cannot be disabled on the case of theft or loss.

Thank you

  • Former computer stolen / / now new computer won't sync music on itunes

    Hello

I had my old laptop stolen and replaced by a brand new Macbook Pro.  My problem is that the new computer will not allow a new music put on my iphone because it is synchronized and authorized with the old machine, now gone.

I have a time machine backup a few weeks ago, but who was unable to migrate on my new computer because the new machine has a smaller SSD drive.  So I just pulled the files manually.

Is there an itunes file somewhere in my old library that has the piece of code that it is my iphone to my new machine and copy music on there?

    Community thanks a lot!

    PW

If possible, copy the entire iTunes folder to the same location on your new hard drive.  If there is not enough space then omit some media from the Media folder.  It's actually the iTunes Library.itl file that needs your phone but it's more than just the file key for your phone, is the key for everything in iTunes file and he collaborates with a bunch of other files and folders in the iTunes folder. If you omit some of the multimedia files they will appear as broken links, but you need to set your library anyway if you want to use a smaller hard drive.

Hello rhansen - sorry to hear that your equipment got stolen... firefox only synchronize or transfer all bookmarks if explicitly configured to do this. in case you have any backups of the file system of your computer available, you might be able to restore the bookmarks from the profile directory.

in the case where you have a google account and you have not disabled the web history, maybe you can grab some sites through this way: http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en & answer = 54068

Through my school, I bought a copy of Windows 7 Premium. When buying software, it comes with very specific provisions stating that it cannot be used while you are still a student. Is it possible to have the old computer "inactivated", so that I can install and activate on my laptop more old?

Unfortunately, its almost impossible to disable remote. If you still have the product key, you can install the license on a new computer and reactivate over the telephone, it should disable in place for as long as you explain your situation carefully to the agent.

There is always a possibility of the person who stole your laptop could retrieve the product key and reuse, so there is no guarantee.

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

    1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    (2) press the ENTER"" key.

    (3) select your "country" in the list.

    (4) choose the option "activate phone".

    (5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

    (6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.

  • Computer stolen with Adobe Photoshop 8

Is there a way I can get the software for my new computer without purchase.  My stolen computer came with the software installed on it.

If you purchsased the Adobe software separately, you might be able to download from the following link:

    http://prodesigntools.com/tag/DDL

But if you don't have the serial number information you will not be able to do more than the version test allows.

If your stolen computer came with some software as part of the purchase package, you do not have the disks for this software, then chances are that you won't be able to get the software freely otherwise.  As far as I know, software that comes with a purchase, even if you receive the discs, is normally only for purchased machine.

  • Cannot turn off (stolen computer)

My laptop was stolen just. Now it has been installed a copy of After Effects CS5. I still have the original boxed, which served to make installation on the missing machine. Now when I try to reinstall AE on a new machine, I get a message saying that I have reached my limit of activation (a colleague uses the other seat) and he forbade me to activate.

When I connect to my Adobe account, I see that AE is still listed under my registered products, but there is no obvious way to disable without having access to my computer stolen.

I saw mixed signals on how to do about this, or if it is indeed still possible:

    Hello

We are sorry that happened to you.

Unfortunately, we cannot provide any assistance in this matter.

You will need to contact the authorities (Police).

Here are some tips to a site well known on this problem.

"What can I do if my computer or laptop has been stolen or lost?

    http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001011.htm

Whenever you have been victim of a crime, the incident should be reported to the authorities. Often, if you are considering claiming the computer stolen for the insurance, you must have already filed a report.  Reporting the incident immediately after the crime will save you time in the future.

Homepage: If your House was recently burgled, contact you local authorities to file a report so if in the future your computer is immediately it may be returned.

office: If you think a co-worker has stolen your computer, contact human resources or a superior immediately. If confidential information of company are on the computer, which should also be high.

School: If your computer has been used while you were at school, talk to your Professor, principle, lost and found, school officer or other employee of the school who can help you to report the incident.

Other public place: If your computer has been taken in a public place like an airport, bus, café-restaurant, gas station, library, taxi cab, etc. report the incident to a senior employee. Often you need to file an incident with the police report.

    Good luck finding your laptop.

    See you soon.

  • Is it safe to store your passwords on your computer

    password storage

    Hi, flight,

'Safe' is one of those terms that means many different things to many different people.

There are degrees of 'safe' almost everything - including the storage of the passwords on your computer.  Here is an article on the subject: http://ask-leo.com/is_it_safe_to_let_my_browser_remember_passwords.html.  Here's another: http://www.howtogeek.com/68231/how-secure-are-your-saved-internet-explorer-passwords/.

As a general rule, I would recommend against it (with a few obvious exceptions, where the computer requires that passwords be saved in order to check what you enter to access something that is protected by password - such as your user name or password if used BIOS - but only in the BIOS) or as Family Safety products where the computer needs to know the password to allow access to the controls to make changes, but it's just how the computer works and not what I think you're talking about.

But I think you're talking about passwords such as those used to access different websites online and maybe some programs to get their much faster by bypassing the need to enter them manually everytime.

If you are lucky enough to never be infected by all that steals information from your computer or invaded by an attacker who uses the saved passwords to access all your private sites like forums and banking sites and sites of credit cards and network access to the server of your company where they can then access this information (maybe even top secret info that could cause great harm) and eventually you put in a lot of trouble), or are victims of a scam where they get access to that information, or that your computer stolen and then pirate to have general access and then have your other passwords are all right there in front of them to use as they please while you're trying to change all (and don't forget that all the and deal with crime at the same time) then maybe you'll be OK.

If you're not lucky, then you left the keys at all just there easy to find.  And if you have decided to show secure and unsecured information because you do not see this notice pop up all the time, you are even riskier.  And I'm considering not even the level of risk you are at that time depending on how well you attend for the security of your system and its connections.   It is not only a matter of turning on the firewall, install a firewall and on the way to the races.  Good security involves much more, and I have no idea how you covered yourself outside storage of passwords on the computer.  There are many factors involved.  Start here for some background information: http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/mse.aspx.  For a variety of articles on how to secure your computer, see the following search: http://www.bing.com/search?q=How%20to%20secure%20your%20computer&sc=6-27&form=BSRTLB&pc=BBSR&QS=n.

Bottom line: I know not enough about your configuration to know how well you are fixed in addition (for example, are all your encrypted files, are all programs on your computer completely up-to-date regarding updates, what operating system you have - if XP is already at risk because there are known gaps that can not be patched (never will be) to begin to guess at the level of risk associated with the storage of the passwords (who, whatever happens, will be a further risk - small maybe and maybe not so small).  But no matter what else do you, almost no matter how perfect, you do everything, it is more risky and less secure that not to do so.  The items above should help you decide if you feel comfortable doing so.  Many do and many don't.  I can only offer my personal opinion.  The computer risks, damage if they fall into the wrong hands are all yours to consider and the decision is yours to make.  I can offer no guarantees if you do so, regardless of how you do it.  I can guarantee you that if you do not you will be sure that there is a small risk based on the methods to do so anyway where you chose to not do (for example, a person installs a keylogger or a keylogger software/malware for all single keystrokes you make including what you push ) - but this is something different that you decide to consciously and intentionally or not.

Incidentally, while MSE will help in terms of blocking or removal of malware that could do it on your computer - is not really very effective, if someone happens to you through and in the browser or by other non-malware means as mentioned above.  There is password-management programs out there that claim to help to do and some work better than others - but in the end they too can be overcome, and then someone has the entire list at hand.

I hope this helps.  No I didn't give you a direct Yes or no answer because I can't with the little I know about your situation and even if I knew everything, I could not yet provide a guarantee.  I just conclude by saying that I don't have and never will do it myself and do not configure my clients for that (even if some change my setup once I got out the door) and I was in it for more than 20 years.

    Good luck!

  • Transfer songs from iPhone to iTunes?

    Hello

Recently, my house was stolen and my old computer stolen. Unfortunately, I had not been able to backup my iTunes library recently (my old external hard drive recently crashed and a new, we just got here the day before my computer was stolen, but I had not had time to return my computer yet). A large part of my library was built from CD that I no longer have access to, but a few GB of my favorites is still on my phone, which fortunately was not stolen. Since I bought a new laptop (a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series, running Windows 10 Home), and I downloaded the latest Windows iTunes. I was able to authorize this computer to re-download my iTunes recent purchases from the iTunes Store, but clearly I can't re-upload my entire library, as a large part of it came from a CD rather than the iTunes Store. Now, I would like to transfer my songs from my iPhone5c to my new computer/iTunes, but I can't find a way to do it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer!

See the information contained in this document point of provided by the CAD user. Recover your iTunes from your iPod or an iOS device

  • Can I install Windows 7 on a laptop replacement?

    Original title: LapTop stolen

My laptop was stolen recently. I had bought and installed Windows 7 on a couple of years. I still have the CD and the code. I can install it on a laptop replacement I have? Also, can it be disabled on laptop computer stolen so that the new owner can not use it?

You can install it on the new laptop and reactivate over the telephone, this should clear the other plant on the stolen laptop:

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

    1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    (2) press the ENTER"" key.

    (3) select your "country" in the list.

    (4) choose the option "activate phone".

    (5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

    (6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/950929/en-us

If the person who stole your laptop uses a key Locator, however, they could use a good key Locator and reactivate the license, so there is no guarantee.

Recently, I had my windows computer stolen, so we needed get a new computer for the home. But instead, we got a mac as it was the best system for our House. This means that my Windows CS 5 does not work for the computer that I have now.

Is there anything that can be done to establish a version mac in place and place windows?

I know it's a long shot, but if not then I'll have to go with competing software.

CS5 is too old for Adobe to provide a sectoral approach
