  • Problem computer backup on external hard drive

I save all my photos on an external hard drive and decided to back up my computer on the same drive, but he continues to stop at around 12%.  The message I got was: "Windows Backup skipped backup system image because one of the critical volumes is not having enough free space.  Free up space by deleting unnecessary files and try again. »

    Hello

To identify the problem, try emptying the trash from the PC and the external hard drive. In addition, check the type of files you want to back up. Make sure that the file format is supported by your external hard drive. It would be better to list the model of your external hard drive to your answer.

    We will wait for her.

    Kind regards.

  • Windows recovery can recover files that have been moved from the computer to an external hard drive?

  • How can I stop my external hard drives being renamed by Lightroom?

Since early December, I had countless problems with LR and my external hard drives. I have 3 all Western Digital external hard drives, 2 x 320 GB passport and 1 x 1 TB elements. I called the hard disks of the computer named them when I first installed them (E & F). Since then the LR calls what he wants when I plug them so there are always question marks next to my photos as LR think I plugged a different hard drive.

Although I don't have 1 x 1 TB hard drive WD Elements LR called something different if I unplug it and plug it in again then it starts and then trying to find all my pictures.

My partner has no such problems as he never unplug his hard drives, but I need that sometimes I'm working on a laptop with the same LR catalog, if I work, so I take a drive with me with the images.

    I could do with:

    (a) a method of naming, my hard drives from WD for LR acknowledges that are connected

(((b) a very simple digital workflow - I have many books of LR but need a genius LR say 1) cela 2) do this etc - I have about 30 000 pictures and even without the hard drive problems make me a bit stuck trying to be organized - I am a photographer not an administrator and I'm really bad on the organizational side.

Help, please, I'm drowning in technology - ps I love Lightroom!

So the question is probably WIndows XP. When you attach a remote drive, Windows XP can arbitrarily assign it to one of the drive letters D: through Z: assignments. A: and B: are reserved for floppy disk drives, and C: is usually indicated on the startup disk where Windows XP.

The drive letters change generally when you plug external drives in different order. So if you have DriveA and DriveB, and you plug in DriveA then DriveB, then DriveA can get assigned D: and DriveB may be assigned E:. If, however, one branch in DriveB first then DriveA, the order will probably flip over in which case Lightroom lose track of all the photos he had previously in location D: and E:.

The solution is to use the windows Disk Manager to force the assignment of drive letters. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307844 for more details. Set mailbox that uses Lightroom.

A problem you may encounter is if you connect a new drive, then attach your photo disks. I believe Windows will give you the new drive D; slot, since it is not used, but then randomly divided the photo viewer because it is defined location is not available. Windows is a manager of poor things, Apple is not.

The solution is to always attach the disks in the same order, and Windows will affect the drive correctly, assume a has completed the tasks in article.

Another approach is to use the Windows mount command. If you're brave, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/205524.

  • How can I transfer/copy a program from the hard drive on my computer on an external hard drive plugged into a USB port on my computer?

transfer of a program on an external hard drive.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish (goal)? You cannot save a program by copying its files/folders in Program Files in an external hard drive. To save programs, you must save the installation - CD, DVD, or the installable executable if downloaded media on the Internet.

  • How to stop an external hard drive with Windows 7

I just bought a new ASUS laptop and when I plug my external Seagate USB drive to it, I can't "stop" it before I have to unplug the unit. I see nothing in any help that works.  There is not an icon in the status bar and it is not an "Eject" option when I click the icon in the window of the computer.   Any other way a stop device?

The relevant icon in the system tray looks like a USB connection with a green top circle that has a white tick in it.  If you go over it, it will say "safely remove hardware and eject the media.  You click on this icon and it will offer you a list of removable devices to stop.  Click on the one you want to stop - it will then be a break & open a small temporary box when it is redy to be removed. [or it will say cannot withdraw because article use - a folder from Windows Explorer to the removable device can be opened for example.]

    - - - - - - -

If it is not visible to the left of the bar icons then - State system is a small arrow pointing upward, if you point to it, then it will say "Show icons", click it.

    Then click on customize.

In the list that is displayed, the I've been tryig to describe an icon will appear.  He'll say 'Windows explorer' and below it will say "safely remove hardware and eject the media.

Select "Show icon & notifications" and it will always appear in your system tray.  Click OK at the bottom of the window.

  • My computer shows no external hard drive

I am preparing to upgrade to Windows 7 XP. I bought the Western Digital My Book Essential drive (2 TB) external drive to back up my computer (300 GB partitioned into three logical drives). The drive appears in Device Manager as installed and working. but is not in the "My computer" window After discussing the problem with the Western Digital support, I was able to put in place a work around by placing a shortcut to the drive on the desktop, but would rather do appear in 'My Computer' window before starting the next phase of backup of the computer to do a fresh install of Windows 7. Is there a solution for this? Please and thanks in advance. Desktop computer Dell XPS (Gen 5) with 2 GB of RAM.

You can access the drive via a shortcut on the desktop, but you do not say what happens if you open Windows Explorer and put the drive letter (or the drive letter and folder name) into the address bar.

In other words, open Windows Explorer and type I:\ (or S:\ or whatever it is you the reader named at this stage).  If this works, you should be able to run Windows Easy Transfer (or a backup program) and specify the external drive as a target.  There is really no need to use 'my computer '.

(For after your description of how you created the shortcut, it seems that type the drive letter in the address bar of Windows Explorer will work fine.)

  • I am trying to create an image of my computer on an external hard drive, but I get an error message: 0 x 8007003 path is missing

I used to assess the problem, but it is Mr. fix: component of windows update is missing and he fixed it.  Still, I can't back up the C: drive.

    Hi Angela,.

What operating system you have installed in the computer?

This problem occurs if you save a library that contains custom folders that are located under your user profile. Please refer to the article to resolve the problem. The instructions apply to Windows Vista or Windows 7.

    Method 1:

    Windows backup or restore 0 x 80070001, 0 x 81000037 or 0 x 80070003 errors
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/973455

Method 2: Temporarily disable the security software and firewall settings and check if the Internet connection drops.

    Disable the anti-virus software

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software

    Enable or disable Windows Firewall

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
