computer won't reboot after updates missing or corrupt ntoskrl.exe

I have a HP pavillion laptop - I have upgraded to Vista Business (so I than the cd) the computer failed to install service pack 1 for ever. He kept getting an error which is ambiguous in the research. However, one day last week he decided that it would update on its own. After the update I get a message that indicates that the ntoskrl.exe file is missing or damaged. The machine does not start without failure or other mode. I got started with the disc once. I thought that the problem has been corrected - and then I restarted the computer a few days later and it happened again. I succumbed to get it to load all the. It is said that it can not be solved. The only time where this morning, I had to complete the restore of the system, the machine has restarted and began its count of files (I think that some 97000 files + as the update of windows) and loop to the same error message. I got to a command prompt and looking for help on what to do next. Thanks in advance for your help. In addition, because I bought the Vista upgrade separately - do any free support from MS? If so - where should I call? Thanks again.

Hi Upinthenight,

Thank you for using the Microsoft Vista answers Forum.

You can follow the steps mentioned below and let us know if it works:

1. put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.

2. press a key when you are prompted.

3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.

4. click on repair your computer.

5. click on the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.

6. in the System Recovery Options dialog box, click command prompt.

7. once we are on the command line, type Bootrec.exe /fixboot, and then press ENTER.

Go to your second question on the support options for Windows Vista; Phone/Chat for Windows Vista support is paid but the free support for Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) is valid until November 26, 2009.

Thank you and best regards,

  • Computer won't reboot after reboot?

It is with regard to my computer I use at work. Been using the same system for almost 3 years and it's pretty much the only little problem which left speechless from each of us, including our COMPUTING team. The system reboots when I choose restart from the start menu. Or if she runs updates and it reboots automatically to complete, it does not restart. I have to manually push the power button. Then, when the option of rebooting the system (be it by my own hand or an update of a certain type) appears, the computer will close and stay off. Then I have to manually push the power button and it will start up. That's all. No other problems. The system works smoothly. I searched a bit to answer this question and have seen a lot of variations, but nothing about what I am experiencing. Any help is appreciated :) Thanks to you all!

    Hi Keithg,

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers forum.
As one of the troubleshooting steps I recommend trying to install the SP1 update as a standalone, follow these steps.

Resolution 1: Install the stand-alone package for the service pack instead of using Windows Update to install the Service Pack

Note If you have already tried to install the stand-alone package for the service pack and you have encountered this problem, skip this resolution and go to resolution 2.

If you don't know if you've tried to install the stand-alone package for the service pack, it is recommended that you try the following steps to install the stand-alone package for the service pack. By using the stand-alone package to install the service pack, you eliminate installation issues that may be related to Windows Update. This simplifies the troubleshooting process.

How to obtain the stand-alone package for the service pack

To obtain the service pack, see the following articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base, depending on your operating system, and then look for the option to install the service pack from the Microsoft Download Center.

Solution 2: Run the system update readiness tool

System Update tool checks your computer and trying to resolve certain conditions that can interfere with the installation of the updates or other software. However, before you download the tool, you must determine whether your computer is running a 32-bit version or a 64 bit version of the Windows Vista operating system. If your computer is Windows Vista installed, and you know which version you are using, go to the section "how to download the system update readiness tool. If you are unsure which version your computer has installed, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start
    2. In the Search box, type system, and then click System in the programs list.

The operating system is displayed as follows:

    • For a 32 - bit version operating system, 32-bit operating system appears for the system type under System .
    • For a 64 - bit version operating system, 64-bit operating system appears for the system type under System .

After you determine which version of Windows Vista, your computer is running, download system update readiness tool.

How to download the system update tool

You can download the preparation tool system update from the following Microsoft Download Center Web site:

The following files are available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

  • My computer won't install seedbed updates and I get the error code: 80248007

I tried to pull up of Microsoft Word all night and it wouldn't let me so I searched how to fix and found a post that says I might update my Windows. I have Windows 8 and part of the update installed, but then at the end it says I have 5 important updates that can be installed with an 80248007 error code. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I need my computer working properly and especially my office products. Thanks in advance!

    Hello

It would be great if you let us know exactly what happens when you work with Microsoft Office programs and the problems that you encounter when you say that my computer works correctly.

    You get the error message?

At this point, I would manually reset the update of Windows on the folders on your computer and see if that allows you to install this update.

Note: Perform these steps would be clear Windows Update history on the computer, but will not uninstall updated.

    1. press the Windows and R on your keyboard keys, then type Services.msc in the run box and press ENTER. This should open the windows of Services for you.

    2. then find the following three services in the list of Services and stop them (by clicking on it and click on stop) one by one:

    Windows Update

    (BITS) Background Intelligent Transfer Service

    Cryptographic services

    3. open Windows Explorer and navigate to the following location:

    C:\Windows\

Rename the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution in SoftwareDistribution.old

    4. go to the following location:

    C:\Windows\System32\

Rename the Catroot2 in Catroot2.old folder

(be careful here, do not rename the C:\windows\system32\catroot folder, you must rename the Catroot2 folder only)

    5. now go back to the Services window and start the services of three you had stopped earlier.

Now, close all open windows, restart the computer and try updates and install them. If it fails again, please answer here so that we can help you further.

  • Configuring updates... Missing or corrupt NTOSKRNL.exe

    Hello

I have a sony VGN NR260E, (Windows Vista Home Premium) recently on power, windows entered the dreaded

    Configuring updates 1 3 mode...
She was followed by a reboot that caused the error

Windows boot manager cannot start Windows...
    File ntoskrnl.exe
    Status: 0xc0000098
Info: windows could not load because a required file is missing or damaged

So, fortunately I have a recovery disk and I did a recovery to a previous restore point - and windows came fine. Since then, I have disabled the Windows updates

The problem is in the power down and turn on the system back in the
Configuration of updates (followed by a ntoskrnl.exe error restart failure) mode

    The result is that
    1. I cannot turn off without going through this lengthy procedure
    2. I can't get updates

So, how to stop windows from "reflection", there is somehting to configure (new can't power upward).

I also tried the fix Windows6. 0-KB937287-v2 - x 86, but when I run it it says it isn't neceassry (or something similar) on my system

Please help because it is originally no end of grief

  • Computer won't start after that update was interrupted

Ive got this HP laptop for 1 or 2 years now and I have been updated and without doing so on the slots, I closed the laptop and now when I try to start it I'm stuck on the loading screen and when I do the startup repair it stays on a blank blue screen what to do?

Without a good DVD of Vista and not be able to enter the Mode without failure, or do a startup repair, we cannot have more options.

You will need to contact the computer manufacturer and ask them how to access/use the recovery Partition on your hard drive, or ask them to send a set of recovery Vista disc/s.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

Each manufacturer has their own way of doing a recovery to factory standards.

  • Printers won´t works after update from HP!

    Hello!

New here and the Sweden so please forgive me for my bad English ;-)

My dad has a computer with several different printers attached to it. He did some advertising in his office work, such that it has a big HP printer (111 something), printer of a brother, a Dymo LabelMaker and a C822 OKI color printer. The computer is a HP Pavilion that the guy in the computer shop assembled for him. Works in Windows 7, it is converted to XP because some of our programs require it.

So, the problem is that last week updated HP (or not, because I think that the green bar stopped in the middle) something on his computer. After that, none of the printers worked!!! I have re-installed the Dymo and managed to do that work again. No problem. Done the same with the brother. Works like a charm. Downloaded the latest firmware for the OKI C822 and tried to print a web page. No problem. But then we opened a document in Microsoft Publisher 2007, which is the program that my father always use, and he has done this for the past two years. The won´t printer print nothing! A large yellow rectangle appears in the lower right corner, saying that "the printer cannot print the document" blah, blah. And the display on the printer even doesn´t the light upwards, it just says: ready to print. Nothing more. Please, help me with a solution... I tried a system restore on the eve of the update of hp, but the computer didn t want to go this way. Anyone... ?

    That s true!

After having been informed by Toshiba program for updating a Bluetooth application, I'm not able to enter for windows.
After you install the update, I get a message that there is a problem in windows and need to restart.
Unfortunately restart just gets me back to the same error message.

    Someone knows a solution?

Please, let us know what model of laptop you have and what operating system you use.

If you are using Win7 start your laptop and press F8. Choose the option "Repair my computer" to enter system recovery options - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R02.htm

You can find option "system restore." Try to roll back OS a few days back so hopefully this will help you start Windows properly. You can try to do the same thing from OS in safe mode. Try the two options.

If you use Win8 check please http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2A03ES0000R01.htm
Start your laptop with F12 and select recovery options there.

  • My MacBook Pro won't start after update to El Capitan, how can I go back?

    Hello

I really hope that someone can help me here. I've updated to El Capitan Yosemite yesterday through software update, but now when I start the computer I get "no entry" or sign a circle with a diagonal line through it, or the Apple with the progress bar / error message / black screen and it repeats 3 times then stops.

I'mnot you know where my disk of Mac OS x is so ideally don't want to reinstall the whole system.

I did a back up of my work using Time Machine before saving, so I hope that I have most of the things I need backup.

Restart by pressing cmd - R after the tone. It should boot into Recovery. From there, use disk to check/repair disk utility. Quit disk utility and reinstall OS X.

The circle with a slash through it means that it does not find the necessary boot files.

  • Re: Satellite A300 won't start after updating BIOS

Today I was installing recommended THAT BIOS update 1.70 to 1.90. During installation, the mouse cursor disappeared and has no reaction to the keys on the keyboard. But there was a message DO NOT TURN OFF COMPUTER. So I waited for long (an hour?), but the update progress bar was always in the same place - as my computers are suspended.

After a long time waiting without any response, I decided to reset the computer. Only way to do pressed turn on button for a few seconds.

But after that turn it on again there is nothing visible on the screen, only the reaction of the computer is that bright development under tension is turned on and hard drive will blink every two seconds. What should do? Please help me! I have very important data on the hard drive at this moment! Can I reset the BIOS? I tried to yutm on the computer after you press ESC and F2 key, but no effect. I put the CD with the operating system, but no effect.

Its possible that the BIOS chip is faulty, causing the update to the BIOS to fall down during the writing process.

If you have tried reinstalling the RAM and removing the power for an hour, it is not great thing else you can do except send it to an ASP for warranty repair.
