• Existing portable disk partitioning

  I have a 3 TB of seagate portable drive. I'd originally set up to backup (mac - time machine) goal. Is it possible to partition so that it can be used to save the files and can be accessed on PC and MAC?

  In theory you can do, but I would try and discourage you to do.  In my opinion, Time Machine should have its own dedicated disk.  In addition, all data stored outside should be stored on a second HDD if data have no value.  This is an often overlooked point.

  Since you get sound while playing music from Internet Explorer and playing discs, you can check in Windows media player if the sound is muted.

  If you use the Windows media player 11, then you can see the change of Libraryfor following sound settings in Windows Media Player.

• Equium U400-124 - disk read error

  Hi guys

  I have (had?) a laptop Toshiba Equium U400-124 with Vista Home Premium 32 installed.

  Last night, it crashed, so I rebooted and a message came with «playing a disc error occurred, press ctrl + alt + delete to restart»

  He reappeared when I did the above.
  When I brought, then created a "vista recovery disc" on my desktop pc and tried, I don't receive any of discs/DVDs with the pc.

  It says "windows is loading files", passes through the part of windows 'Hourglass', but then just hangs on a screen black (the arrow cursor is visible and mobile).
  I left it overnight after trying a multitude of times, but remains black.

  Clues?

  First you didn t receive the recovery because the portable disk was equipped with HARD drive recovery option and the Toshiba recovery disc creator software.
  This software would you create an own Toshiba Recovery disk!

  The European driver Toshiba page provides the Package of Robson.
  This package contains the necessary SATA drivers.
  You can find it in the Winall\Driver folder
  There are files that are needed to recognize the disk by the Vista!

  The fact is that the notebooks support a SATA HDD controller and the necessary drivers are not part on the Windows operating system.

  First install the SATA, then the Vista drivers. This should help!

  This happens usually only if you directly copy the photo on the root of the drive disc, you will need to create a folder in the drive and then try to transfer the photos and check if it works.

  If you still have the error then make a backup of the content player and then format the drive and check if it works.

• How to rename the external HARD disk in window 8?

  I have a Seagate Backup more Portable disk (500 GB) and WD Element (1 to). I use Window 8.

  When I Plug one of them, their original name had auto-changed by the computer. For example, auto-changed the name of the element Local disk (H) and Seagate to Local disk (G). I tried to rename the two hard drives, but it does not work. But the two hard drives were working properly (I can open it and uploaded files). I even tried to use disk management to rename the HARD drive, but it will not change in the computer.

  Not only that, when my friend she plug Pendrive or plugging me in my usb connection Smartphone . Both got the names of auto-changed also. For example, when I connected my Vivo X 5 in computing, it usually appeared Vivo (I) and the Sd Card (F). Then some time later, it auto-changed on the removable disk (I) drive removable (F). Regarding my from a friend, after she plug his USB drive in my computer, its name from Pendrive changed disk removable (J). When she plug his USB stick into his computer, she could not rename its USB key at all.

  I appreciate the effort to change the drive letter. There could be possibility of virus as well. We can try the following methods and check.

  Method 1: You can run the troubleshooter of material and check.

  Follow the steps to run the Troubleshooter:

  1. Press Windows + C keys on your keyboard to show the charms.

  2. Troubleshooting type, and then click Troubleshooting under settings.

  3. Now, type Hardware Troubleshooter in the option Search .

  4. Click the hardware store to run the troubleshooter.

  Method 2: I suggest you try to reinstall the USB controllers and if the problem persists try disabling any antivirus installed on your computer, and then reinstall the USB controllers.

  To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click run, type sysdm.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Click the hardware tab.
  3. Click the Device Manager button.
  4. Expand Bus USB controllers.
  5. Right-click every device under the Bus USB controllers node and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
  6. Restart the computer and reinstall the USB controllers.

  Method 3: Once the USB controller is uninstalled, try installing the latest version of the driver for chipset on the site of computer manufacturer.

  Plug in the removable USB storage device and test to make sure that the problem is solved. If the problem persists, please try to disable any existing Antivirus installed on your computer, and then repeat uninstalling followed windows update Setup USB controllers.

  NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

  Please follow the steps to install the available Windows updates.

  1. Press Windows + R, type Control Panel , and click then on ok.
  2. Change the display by (from windows Explorer) large icons or small icons.
  1. Click the Start button, type Windows Update in the search box, and then click Windows Update in the results pane.
  2. Click find updates. When the scan finished, click optional review updates.
  3. Click the check box next to the update, and then click install updates.
  4. If you are prompted, read the license agreement, then click I agree.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen to download and install updates. If you are prompted, restart your computer.

  The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

  I recently bought a new laptop, MSI GX60 with OEM windows 8.
  However, it will not play any audio CD if I insert a CD audio (all the purchased legal), the hard drive makes noise in spinning, trying to read the disk, but noting happens.
  Audio disc works fine in a regular cd player, and the portable disk drive can play regular DVDs with no problems. So it's just audio cd that are a problem for some reason any.
  I tried the stuff I found on the Zimny, tried the fixit from microsoft thingy, it says that the media are not supported, or the disc is blank (which is not the case). I tried to uninstall the drivers and reboot, nothing helps. I deleted all software CD/DVD burning. Nothing.
  The drive appears in the management of devices very well, no errors.
  I'm a little lost here... new brand laptop, but cannot read audio CDs which is funny, because I tried my old Dell desktop of the fathers (now 7 years old), and here the audio disc works without problem.
  Someone who can help?

  Sometimes they have 'exclusive ' active mode 'blocks' audio CD so try to disable "exclusive mode":

  Right click on the speaker icon in the Notification area of the taskbar > playback devices > click on "Speakers" on the playback tab > properties > advanced > remove the check mark in front of "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" > OK

  If this has no effect you can re-enable the "exclusive mode".

  I bought a new Toshiba HDD STOR. E PARTNER portable disk HARD drive a week ago. I find that the Setup file of Nero Backitup and Burn the disk is damaged. When you open the file, I get a message "Extraction does not have error: data error. Tried it with my virus scanner turns off, but it makes no difference.

  Is it possible to download the Nero software without having to send in the drive. I prefer this option because I already copied sensitive information on the disk.

  As far as I know possible to upgrade the Nero software.
  You need to download it from the homepage of Nero and then have to use the key to series that are part of the version on the external HARD drive.

  Have you tried copying the file to Nero on the laptop HARD drive then start the installation?

  I understand that your 500 GB HARD disk is full and you want to install a larger drive and more ram.  Here is a link to HP Pavilion dm4 Entertainment PC Maintenance and Service of Guide. Please note Chapter 3, page 24, section 15 modules of memory and point 18 drives for replacements recommended for your system. Please be aware that the maximum memory is 8 GB. (found in Chapter 1, page 2, memory). As a 2 TB drive has not been tested in this model, the result is unknown.  This does not mean that it will not work, only that it is not a walk recommended and not supported by HP.

  I cannot load passed to the handler to boot on my laptop and so am not sure if it a hardware/software problem. There seems to be a problem with AVG Antivirus, and if I want to reinstall my operating system to a product Recovery CD/DVD. However I do not know where to order one of my model. If this does not work, I intend to buy a new hard drive and could do with the disc anyway.

  I came up with some crazy ideas on my laptop and I would like to ask if they are achievable.

  1E) my laptop over the past months has been constantly rising temperatures more than usual.
  Fan takes air loads but shots much more less that he usually did. I think that the radiator should have been stuffed with dust.
  Warranty will cover cleaning or not?

  (1) generally clean cooling module is not covered by the warranty. If the technician would be clean the fans, then you will have to pay for it. But you can try to clean it with a jet of compressed air that could get many computers and laptop dealers.
  It s a professional tool to remove the dust easily.

  (2) the A200 series supports various components (motherboards, etc.) and A200 not everything can be improved with the second HARD disk.
  If your A200 does not support the second connector HARD drive then you may not use a second HDD. This connector can not be upgraded too.
