  I have a new HP DL380 G6 server, install VMWare ESXi 4.0 with HP customizations, fresh and is having trouble with the IP address of management only.

  This server has 4 NETWORK ports in it, and initially tried to add all 4 ports shared resources to ESXi. But then I ran into problems with the vSphere Client and he loses communication with the ESXi server. So, I tried to set up just 1 NIC port dedicated to the management with no network VLAN. It has a static IP address. I tried swapping network cables, check the switch port settings, etc..

  Funny is that the machine on that host virtual all work very well and respond well to network traffic.

  Also, I tried to update the firmware on the HP and NIC server without any change in improving. I lose about 40% of the traffic on the ip address of management and some problems when I need to manage this server. Yet once the VM seems to work well.   I'm trying to understand how to configure a dedicated server of Dell R210 rented running VMware ESXi 5.1.0 build-799733

I managed to make it appear the other interface but I cannot find anywhere how to assign the IP address 10.90.116.20x to this 2^nd network adapter. But then again I don't even know if I should or if I need to assing a IP address to this 2^nd network adapter. What is the cable connected even for this 2^nd NIC? I do not know. Should it be - I'm not either. I don't know French and manuals/instructions on www.online.net are in French. I can try an online translator, but I don't think that what I'm looking for is explained. How do I get this set up? I have to do something about the ESXi on the server console? This interface 2^nd should be in place, or it must be down as if it was originally? Yesterday after watching someone videos on YouTube, I added the second virtual switch and moved the virtual hosts of this switch 2 and he entrusted the 2^nd NIC. Through my research on the internet I found that vCenter Server is required only when we have the large number of ESXi to manage (correct me if I'm wrong). In my case, I have only one. Therefore, I have not installed vCenter Server.

  Now, I want to deploy vCops with VMware ESXi 5.5 5.8. But while deploying OVF template(VMware-vcops-5.8.0.0-1448123-vapp.ova), I get the following error.

  According to the guidelines of the screenshot, you connect directly to the host ESXi 192.168.0.49 and the error is reported through the OVF vCOPs. It's expected, because the ESXi host do not understand the purpose of vAPP, as explained in my initial comment.

  You need to connect to your IP vCVA i.e. 192.168.0.51 using the vSphere client and then import the OVF vCOPs.

  Let me know if you still experience this issue.

  like any other typical server, you need to configure the sata raid controller RAID5/RAID0. but keep in mind that this controller without any battery backed cache would have very horrible performance. Another way is that you can use datastore span to provide as a large store of data, but if you lose all of the computer, you will lose all data.

• VMware ESXi serving SMB to a windows network?

  I have a friend who has a small business. It has about a half dozen windows on desktop machines. On the backend, it has a pretty Beefy Server (AMD Phenom X 3, 8 GB of RAM, RAID 3 to matrix). He runs VMware Server 2.0 on a box of CentOS 5.x, and he has two XP VMs on this box. It also has a very large partition on this machine, which he is serving as the several stock through Samba for desktop computers.

  Unfortunately, VMware Server got a little, uh, flaky with current versions of Linux. I had problems with it on a Debian installation and there has been a power outage a couple of weeks, and the server would not be back for two or three days. Then he called me.

  Now I would like to convert him on VMware ESXi (3.5 or 4.0, since the machine is 64-bit), but remains the problem of the samba shares. Is it possible for esxi for a second or subsequent data store and serve as actions for windows machines? I had thought to build an another VM to serve these files, but that is not good. Looks like another layer of obfuscation, it is a bit nervous about trusting to its archives (some date back to 1992) of VMware with the experience he had with the server. Does anyone know of another (better?) way?

  1 ESXi does not support the device of USB storage for local data warehouses.  I don't remember the extent to which the guest OSes on ESXi.  I read that USB is only supported network based USB hubs.

  2. you can install ESXi on a USB key and start it.  It does not appear as a store of data however.

  3. I don't see the option for the installation of sound cards and I do not know the support of 3D video cards.

  4. Yes, the serial ports are supported.

  5. do you are unable to view the comments from the host OS console.  If you need to do this you player, Workstation or Server.

  6 ESXi does not support SATA in local storage.  It is possible however to use SATA RAID cards that emulate SCSI (Adaptec 210 X for example).

  ESXi is essentially ESX without the full service console.  Both share the same features and functionality as eachother.  ESXi is smaller, hardened operating system that is not running under Red Hat.
