Configuration of disk for CS4

Hi all

Looking for some recommendations on the configuration of disk for CS4. Some QuickSpecs. XP Pro 64 bit, Intel i7 extreme, 12 GB of DDR3 RAM and 8 Velociraptor 300 GB disks.

I originally it was configured as a single array (RAID 5 with online backup) with two partitions (one for the OS and program files) and one for the storage and the file Page on the table and zero.  I wasn't getting very good performance so I decided to clean up and reconfigure.

I'd be better off with 2 tables? An array of 0(600 GB) RAID 2 disks for OS, Program Files and Scratch space. and the second table of 6 drives in RAID 5 (1.3 to) for storage?

Or maybe even go with a single hard drive for OS and Program Files (300 GB).  One drive for Scratch space (300 GB).  and then the 6 disks in RAID 5 for storage?

Also, where would be the best loacation for the pagefile?

Thanks in advance for the help

Keep things simple:

1. go to Win7-64

2 C disc for OS & programs, only Velociraptor

3 D for the swap file disk, and all the rest, 7 x Velociraptor in a raid5 configuration

  • Best disk for my nice new laptop Asus ROG Configuration

    Hey everybody!

I just bought an ASUS ROG G752VT-GC046D (German Web site link), which has a 1 to 7200 RPM HARD drive. The computer has two empty 2280 m2 slots for disks SSD NVMe. I wonder what is the best configuration of disk while keeping my low costs? I do 1080 p video editing in Premiere Pro (30 FPS and 60 fps) and do a job after effects. I hope that the 4K video editing will be possible on this machine. But 4K is not a must, I would like to keep in mind when selecting disks.

    Data sheet:

    I7-6700HQ

    GTX 970M 3 GB GDDR

    16 GB DDR4 (2 of 4)

    FHD LED 17.3 "display

Maniboard: Intel CM236 (Skylake PCH - H) (im not sure at 100%, I found this on another website for G752VT)

    3 x USB 3

    1 x USB 3.1 / Thunderbolt

1000 GB 7200 RPM HARD drive

2 empty slots for disks SSD NVMe M.2

Discs cannot be configured in RAID

I have a 250 GB SSD 850 EVO in my old computer I can use (currently I use only this disk to edit). Speed reading and writing od 540 MB/s and 520 MB/s, respectively

    Configuration 1

    1 drive: operating system, programs, Pagefile - 128 GB SSD PM951 NVMe M.2 2280 = €65

    2 disc: media, projects - 1 TB 7200 RPM 2.5 "HARD disc

    3 disc: overview, media Cache, exports: 256 GB SSD PM951 NVMe M.2 2280 = €145

250 GB SSD 2.5 "or sold laying around EVO 850

    Investment = €210

    Configuration 2

    1 drive: operating system, programs, Pagefile - 128 GB SSD PM951 NVMe M.2 2280 = €65

2 disc: media, projects - 250 GB EVO 850 SSD 2.5 "(slower than PM951) SATA connectors"

    3 disc: overview, media Cache, exports: 256 GB SSD PM951 NVMe M.2 2280 = €145

    4 disc: backups & old projects - 1 TB 7200 RPM 2.5 "HARD disc

    Investment = 210€

I read the Page Tweakers on the configuration of the hard drive, but I don't know how to apply the knowledge practically while keeping in mind that I am not a super pro user with a huge budget but rather someone who wants to get better, but has a limited budget.

What are your thoughts on my Configurations, do you recommend improvements? Is the Configuration 2 the best bang for the buck (or euro)?

    Looking forward to your answers.

    Best,

    Gorazd

If you already have the evo 250 GB and you want to use into the laptop

    Disc 1-250 GB samsung 850 evo = os/apps/pagefile/db cache

    Disc 2-512 GB samsung 950 pro = project/media/previews

Disc 3-1 TB 7200 RPM hard drive = enclosure external usb for backups

So just buy a disc, the samsung 950 pro and a box external usb 3 for the 1 TB hard drive.

If you want to keep the internal 1 TB drive, then I think you have to go with two readers of m2. a pm951 of 128 GB or a little better sm951 for os/apps can work.

Skylake was almost a flop for the gain in performance over the last generation cpu. If new portable computers skylake are good for features such as Thunderbolt, which is good for the expansion or upgrades, including egpu.

  • Graphics card for CS4

    Hi all

I intend to build a new PC (Intel i7 930 + 6 GB of RAM) for my father it's a video editing with Premiere Pro CS4.

I ve read the message "You are looking for a best PC configuration run Adobe CS4/CS5 first", but I´d would like to ask you a few questions:

    (1) why do three hard drives?. Is he not good with two drives? (one for the OS and the other for editing?). What is the third disc exactly for?

    (2) is the noisy NVIDIA GTX 285? If I buy rather a Gigabyte NVIDIA 9800 GT silent (fanless, 1 GB of DDR3 memory) I'd get good performance? I Don t see the 9800GT in Premiere CS4 graphics card compatibility list.

    Thank you!

    Kind regards.

    Why three hard drives?

Let's say you get over 10 friends for a 5 course dinner. You must define the table, you have to Cook all courses and you can do everything at the same time. Now if you don't have anyone to help you, it will take much more time for everything is ready that when you had two or three people helping you, one to set the table, one to prepare vegetables, one meat or fish and one for the main course and desserts.

It goes same for discs. If you have a single disc, it will take much more time to accomplish all that needs to be done when you can split all activities on several disks. Three discs is the minimum number of disks for comfortable editing.

The NVIDIA GTX 285 is noisy?

Only if the fan goes faster, but it is then necessary to keep temperatures in check. With CS4 it will travel at a speed of fan fow and be rather quiet, but with CS5 and MPE it can get pretty loud so strongly stressed.

  • Replacement hard disk for Pavilion a1410n.

I have Pavilion a1410n desktop. Only the changes that has been done is upgrading the memory to 3 GB.

The hard drive in the computer, which is a 200 GB (SATA) has been restored several times, which does not give me much space left. I am wanting to replace the hard drive with a larger. What is the most important I can go with, without causing a lot of problems? Can I put a 500 GB or more of this computer?

I have the restore disc that I ordered for this return of the computer when I bought it. So, I would not have problems with drivers and others. Am I right in assuming that if I leave the restore disc to do their work, it configures the disk partitions and all?

Please can someone answer back me as soon as possible. I need to return this computer running as soon as possible.

    Hello:

I don't know the answer to your questions, except to say that no hard drive (at least in Windows Help) has never its total size available.  And the larger the hard drive, there seems to be a larger piece of unusable space.

Of what you have said, you still have a lot of free space available. Once your hard drive becomes 60-70% full, then it's time to look for a bigger.

In addition, please note that if you do not install a bigger hard drive, you will not be able to put the partition recovery on it.

Another idea for you would be to install a new drive hard more to one that you have and use it to store your files, music, photos, etc on, and you can continue your the original one for the OS and programs.

You will need to make sure that if you do that, you buy a hard drive which comes with a cable SATA data.

There should be another SATA power cable to hang it, and you would plug the data cable into the SATA port labeled SATA1.

Just make sure you have a player available to install and screw location or what is needed to mount the drive inside the enclosure.

To help you do this, I enclose the link to your guide of upgrade and maintenance, which will give you step by step instructions on how to open the case and install the various components, including hard drives.

  • If you use network storage, configure ASM disks with external redundancy groups

    Hi Experts,

If you use network storage, configure ASM disks with external redundancy groups. Don't use groups of Oracle ASM failure. Oracle failure groups consume cycles additional CPU and can run in unpredictable ways after suffering from a disk failure. When you use external redundancy, disk failure are transparent to the database and do consume no additional database CPU cycle, because it is discharged on storage processors.

    This does not mean

    • RAID 1 + 0 for diskgroup + REDO1
    • RAID 1 + 0 for diskgroup + REDO2
    • RAID 5 for diskgroup + DATA
    • RAID 5 for diskgroup + FRA

Is this one suggested, the recommended best practices for oracle on VMWARE?

    Thank you and best regards,

  • New configuration of PC for Photoshop CS5 and 64-bit Windows 7

    Hello

I just bought a new PC (with the budgetary limits) with the following configuration:

    8 GB of RAM DDR3 (1600 Mhz)

    1 HD 1 TB 7200 RPM (WD)

    Processor 3.00 Ghz i5

    GPU MSI 630GT 1 GB DDR3

After reading many documents on the web, on the use of several physical hard disks for the use of Photoshop CS5 (I work on the lrage, 300-800MB files), I wonder if my current conifguration with only 1 HD (1 to) is "strong" enough for my needs?

How many partitions and size preparing setting up my PC?

If I was able to pull another $ 100 what should I expect? Another HD for Photoshop scratch disk? or maybe an SSD?

Appreciate all the help I can get.

    Shai

SSD is the path to high performance in modern systems, but $100 do not buy a lot of an SSD.  You can save a little while and get a 256 GB of high performance drive (ideally more).  It is quite big you could make your drive system and Photoshop for zero access point home as well and maybe even keep work in progress that you make about it.

View on configuration of the systems (for example, ' the value zero to your system drive"'") does not really apply with SSD storage, because there is no latency with an SSD.

What kind of SATA connections offer your new PC?  Ideally, you have SATAIII (6 gigabit), that would really be able to enjoy a good SSD.

  • I need to activate but do not have the disks in CS4

I have the new system on my laptop, even HD. I lost my installation of Design Standard CS 4 which has been upgraded to 5.5. I need to activate but do not have the disks in CS4. I installed upgrading as trial and I have two serial numbers. Y at - it a shortcut to a solution or can I download the CS 4 sw installation.

    Hi David,

To activate the software to upgrade Adobe CS5.5 that you don't need to install the Adobe CS4 on your computer, you just need the serila for Adobe CS4 & Adobe CS5.5 number.

Once you launch CS5.5 it will ask two serial numbers required for the software, just read the options carefully on the launch of Adobe screen.

    Noctua NH - U12P SE2 (CPU cooler)

Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT fanless or HIS ATI Radeon HD4670 (graphics card).

    Antec P183 (case)

Enermax Modu 87 + TX 500W or 650W Corsair or Antec Signature 650W (power).

    Your comments are appreciated!

    Best regards.

Look into changing the CPU cooler for the successor, the Noctua NH - D14.

Like John, I think that your power supply may be a little thin. Especially if you plan to upgrade to CS5 with an MPE video card in the future.

Look here: eXtreme Power Supply Calculator Pro v2.5, get the pro license (it costs peanuts), enter all of your components, the value of the system to 100% load and capacitor aging to 30%. Then add about 10-15% of the calculated power and attention to the amperage on the different tracks. Who will decide what PSU to get.

One of the first improvements to your system will be to increase the memory 12 GB.

I'm using Time Machine (1 TB), works very well, but because full starting to delete previous backups. Can I add another (LaCie 1 TB) HARD disk for backups? If so, how to proceed. Thank you!

You can add another drive to accept backups Time Machine... assuming it is correctly formatted for Mac to Mac OS extended (journaled), but things are not exactly "continue."

You have not indicated if you intend to add the player to the USB port on the Time Capsule, or connect directly to your computer using USB or FireWire connections. Or the other method works, with the option to connect directly to the computer being the faster connection.

Once the disc is added, you would go in Time Machine preferences (click the "clock" at the top of the screen on your Mac) to add the disk for Time Machine backups and delete the old Time Capsule disk, since backups will go is no longer this destination.

Since you have a new drive, Time Machine will do a new full backup of your Mac and then go forward with incremental backups.

  • What is the maximum capacity of the disk for Portege M700?

Does anyone know what is the maximum capacity of disk for Portege M700?

    Thanks for the reply

As I m wrong not the Portege M700 does support a SATA HDD.
In this case we must avoid any limitation of the size of the HARD disk
Usually, you can use almost all SATA 2.5 hard drives in you M700.

    Hello

on the official means, it is not possible to get a recovery disk in another language. Only, you can try to find someone who has a version in English of the M300.

You can also create the system by yourself with a Microsoft Windows CD English. Programs and the necessary drivers can be downloaded from the Toshiba site.
