Connection broadband slow dimension 8300

I'm having a problem with a connection slow broadband on my Dimension 8300 and am now at a loss for what else to try.  The speakeasy test shows that I get about half the download speed of the Insipiron 5100 networked through the same modem and the router.  The ISP service is 5 Mbps.

Speakeasy results:

Dimension 8300, Inspiron 5100

Download 2995 Kbps 4931 Kbps

Download 495 Kbps * 490 Kbps

* result as after new installation map network which has doubled the speed test result when using PRO/100 VE

Here is what I tried:

-rebooted in safe mode to remove the effects of the software loaded, no change in upload and download times as shown above.

-replace the modem, no change in top/download times

-replace the network adapter - this brought my upload speeds with the Inspiron, no change in the time of downloading the above online

-traded around cables using the cable to use to connect Inspiron - no change in top/download from the above

Is there anything else I can do to get the speed of dowload on the 8300 closer to the 5Mbps.  I want to move to a 10 Mbps service but don't want to spend the extra money if my system is not able to do better than 3Mbps.

Modem: Motorola SB5102

Router: DLink DI-704UP

Netword card: DGE - 530 t (10/100/1000Mbps)

Thank you!

  • Double the Dimension 8300 HDMI graphics card?

I entered a discussion yesterday with a Dell REP with the purchase of a double-HDMI graphics card for my Dimension 8300.

Is it true that only graphics cards that sell Dell will work in this model of computer?  They don't sell any double-HDMI are compatible with this computer.

Shouldn't be able to buy any material from off - the shelf and install it?  I thought that these problems of compatibility years ago has left us.

Is it true that only graphics cards that sell Dell will work in this model of computer?

No, but those that sell Dell have probably been tested to work with the system that they recommend you for.

If you're really talking about an old Dimension 8300 and not a new XPS 8300, you have an AGP video card slot, so it is quite difficult to find an AGP card with two HDMI ports.  You can look in the BIOS Setup to the primary video controller option to see what other options are supported.

But this system has only PCI slots (not the PCI - e newest) thus, even if you can set the primary video controller to PCI, your choices will be limited.

Why should you double HDMI? Each monitor does support to the DP, DVI or VGA? You have several choices of video PCI card if you go for one that has a HDMI and another port supporting at least one of the monitors. Both monitors do not have to be connected via the video port of the same type...

  • Internet connection is slow or simply cut

    Original title: connection problems

Hi, I had problems with my internet connection, it will be slow or it just stops and I can't go back with duty to restart the computer.

I don't think it's my router because all other devices work in the router with no problems, and I have my computer away from the router, but the other computer works fine here.

I'm really tired almost everything. I even deleted all of my computer.  I would be completely restored my computer to factory but I don't have the disk to do so.

So basically my question is what do I do?

    Hi MarCheri,

    ·         What version of the operating system is installed on the computer?

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    ·         You get the error message?

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the security software .

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 2: Follow these steps:

Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode with network and check if the problem persists.

Step 2: If the problem does not persist in safe mode with networking, perform a clean boot to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow step 7 the link to start the computer to a Normal startupmode.

  • How can I change the cmos battery in my Dell Dimension 8300

How can I change the cmos battery in my Dell Dimension 8300?

    Thank you

    Clark

Easy!  As long as you have a few minutes and the right replacement battery ready to go.  Just follow these few simple steps.
    1. Unplug the power cord.
    2. Tour of Lapointe on the right side.
    3. Remove the left panel - probably remove the screws at the back.
    4. Identify the CMOS battery on the motherboard.
    5. Press the metal tab to release the battery.
    6. Check the model number on the battery, make sure you have the same replacement.
    7. Install the new battery, reinstall the side panel, standing Tower and plug the power supply cord.
    8. Start the system and immediately get into the BIOS (CMOS Setup) and correct the date/time and other parameters.
    I hope this helps!
  • How can I add an extra internal hard drive to my dell dimension 8300

I installed an extra internal hard drive to my dell dimension 8300. He only appears in "Device Manager" and shows to work but he does not appear in 'my computer' and has not assigned a drive letter. It's a western digital 1200js-22mhbo. My drive root 'C' is also a wd1200jd from western digital. Can someone tell me what I do to get it to show up with a drive letter, and I have to format it? Also, there is a way to format so I can install programs on it as my "C" drive or I just will be only able to use it as extra storage? Thanks a lot for your help!

    Hello

    • Click Start
    • Click on run
    • Type diskmgmt.msc and press enter
    • You will be prompted to initialize your new drive, move (drag) the message on one side, so that you can see the disk management window in its entirety and make sure your new drive is the disk that should initialize
    • Click on the button next wizard
    • Make sure that your new hard drive is selected (boot disks), and then click the next button
    • Make sure that your new hard drive is not selected (the disks to be converted), and then click the next button
    • Click on the Finish button
    • In disk management, right-click the unallocated space on your new drive and then click New Partition...
    • Make sure that the primary partition is selected and click on the next button
    • Leave the default partition size (all your new drive), and then click the next button
    • If you do not want the suggested default change drive you want allocated letter and click the next button
    • Change the volume name if you want but leave the rest of the information as the default and click the next button
    • Click on finish

Disk management will make formatting your hard drive and displays its progress in percentage. When it's over your disk will be ready to use.

If you want to install programs on this disc you could make custom installations and select : \Program Files instead of the default of C:\Program Files. Some installers do not have this option.

You can move your documents on this disc folder, if you want to see...

The 8300 should take most of the processor socket 478, max 3.4 GHz Northwood or Prescott processor.

Note: The first 8300 systems are limited to 2.8 GHz, but those built at the end of 2003, can take the fastest processors, with a BIOS upgrade to version A07.

A Socket 478, P4 3.4GHz processor will work only if your 8300 was built after December 2003 and with an upgrade of the BIOS to A07 version, if it was built before that, 3.4 GHz processor would clock up to 2.8 GHz.

Better to buy a Northwood as the Prescott processor is running more hot.

  • Installation of Windows 7 Professional on Dimension 8300

Can someone tell me if I can load a new unused 32 bit OEM Full Version of Windows 7 Professional on a Dell Dimension 8300?  I'm looking at this version because it allows me to save a lot of $$.  I bought all the other updates required for memory, hard drive, sound card and graphics on this computer at Dell.  The operating system would be the only feature that would not be purchased from Dell.  I would also like to know what happens when I change the original hard drive.  I'm losing the info on this old drive when disconnected?  I was wondering if I can put it back in if I have problems with the installation of Windows 7 on the new hard drive.  I did a full backup of the old hard drive.

Another thing, Dell support didn't warn me hardware virtualization that is not on this computer processor, so I think I have a few problems with the help of some of my old XP software.  Apparently you need virtualization in Windows 7 XP mode.  It's a big problem for me because most of the software I have bought is for XP.  What happened to backward compatible programs that meet the needs of all.  Guess I'll have to take that with Microsoft.

It's been almost 2 years since this was posted.  For the record: I installed Windows 7 Professional (purchased at Microsoft) and the OS works fine on Dell 8300.  Made all of the changes recommended before installation, the disk (500 GB), sound card, graphics card, etc.  System worked without problem for 2 years and just about everything that I need to work that has been installed with Windows XP works!  Now, I'm trying to figure out if I can install a map update for USB 3.  Hope that this thread will help others who have kept their old system.  I think that the Dimension 8300 has been one of the few product really Dell computers that can be updated.  More big limits can be the IBM processor and motherboard.  By the way Dell initially told me that this computer will not work with Windows 7.

    Scientists, welcome to the forum.

It is a problem that could be better solved by your ISP.  They have an incentive to keep you happy.

I use CenturyLink DSL.  I'm supposed to download to 7Mbps.  However, most of the time it's around 5 Mbps.  Whenever it drops below this figure, I reboot the modem and if this does not help, call the Customer Service at the CL.  They perform part of their magic and it works well again until the next time.  Of course, they make me jump through hoops to make sure that it is not my computer at the origin of the problem.

  • If my connection interrupted by the ISP, my connection broadband (PPPoE) on my windows 7 freeze and it does not cut, and he does not answer to disconnect click.

If my ADSL connection disconnected by the provider of the connection on my computer freezes instead of disconnect!

As the title suggests, if my connection interrupted by the ISP (for example: Internet service provider who use dynamic IP automatically disconnects after 24 hours permanent connection), my connection broadband (PPPoE) on my windows 7 freeze and it does not cut, and this isn't answer to disconnect click, even if I uninstall the Ethernet card, keep the connection.

Everything else works fine, and the only way to connect to the Internet is to restart my pc.

Also if the connection is disconnected due to a traction cable or ADSL Modem power connection broadband (PPPoE) on my PC disconnect normally without any problems and I can reconnect without any problem.
    any help with this.

    Hello

PPPOE software th whole arrangement never worked well from the first day more than 10 years regardless of the operating system.

So most serious DSL carriers actually give free Modem/Router so that authentication would be by the side of the router WAN.

They give it for free for phone support for this problem cost them more than the $10 adds the router to the Modem

For example, get a router, simple routers in the United States are sold for less than $15.

Router solved the problem PPPOE provides, security with NAT firewall, and stream DSL is actually faster than with authentication of software.
