Considerations to keep the retention of RMAN backup for 1 year

Dear all,

We use 10 g 2 2-node CCR on Windows Server. We use Netbackup Symentec 7.5 for the backup of Oracle databases. We want to change the retention period of the RMAN backups for 1 year. Another change that the window recovery from RMAN backup at 365, what are the other considerations (any other configuration change, another point etc.), we should be aware of?

Best regards

Riaz

Your controlfile would spend unusually large.  It can result in CF-queue waiting for when the generation of the archivelogs and performing backups.

    You can use RMAN to do it.

    Use the command

    RMAN>  backup backupset from ... format '' ;

  • WITH THE HELP OF RMAN BACKUP CATALOG

    Hello...

    I INTEND TO TAKE THE "ORCL" DATABASE BACKUP USING THE CATALOGUE. FIRST, I CREATED A DATABASE USING DBCA NAMED "RMAN". NOW, IN THE FLASH RECOVERY AREA, I'LL HAVE TWO FOLDERS "ORCL" AND "RMAN".

    I WANT TO KNOW WHEN I USE CATALOG RMAN DATABASE AS WHY IT IS IMPLEMENTED BACKUP ORCL...?
    SO WHAT'S THE CHANCE OF CREATING A SEPARATE DATABASE "RMAN". ?
    SEPARATE RMAN DATABSE IS JUST FOR CREAT CATALOG, THEN THE REGISTRY ORCL IN THIS CATALOG DATABASE?

    THANKS FOR REPLYING...

    You can also take your backups without a recovery catalog database. The additional advantage of using a database to catalog vs using the controlfile as repository (default average) target is essentially
    >
    RMAN automatically manages backup metadata in the database control file is saved. To protect and maintain metadata backup for long periods of time, the RMAN Repository is created in a separate database. This repository is generally referred to as a catalog of recovery. The benefits of using a catalog of recovery include:

    *

    Stores long-term backup information
    *

    Store the metadata for multiple databases
    *

    Restore a backup available on another system

    Another reason to use a recovery catalog is the limited size of the target database control file. If the control file is too small to contain additional metadata from backup, then the existing backup information are crushed, making it difficult to restore and recover using these backups.

    I have configured RMAN and level 0 and backup of level 1 with on the external HARD drive.

    all the RMAN backup is located in this drive external HARD only, same archivelog.

    My question is,

    How to create a database to Server-2 based on the RMAN backup I took in server-1.

    It's to help me create a server test and even if the server-1 crash, then I can create a database in the new server-2 with backup I took on the external HARD drive.

    Is it possible to achieve the same or not. Kindly suggest me or share a good Internet link or document and share your knowledge to achieve my need of stimulus.  This will really help me

    It does not matter whether you use ASM. The link above should guide you on how to change the file names of data before restoring if the location of the data file on server 2 will be different from server 1.

    Need some help here. I inherited a system in which has about 65 GB memory, Linux 64 - bit - 16 processors. Whenever an RMAN backup is performed, else cannot do anything. The load average is about 10 (max). My theory is that it is the init.ora parameters, but not sure... Here's the deal:

    SGA_MAX_SIZE = 47GB
    SGA_TARGET = 0
    shared_pool_size = 5G
    JAVA_POOL_SIZE = 1 G
    LARGE_POOL_SIZE = 0
    db_cache_size = 38G

    I'll look into what I have to change. I just wanted to get other opinions since I inherited a wasp nest and need elements good enough before you can change all the settings. All documents, Metalink, etc that you can provide to support a change in these parameters would be great. Thank you.

    Hello

    You can check http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96566/rcmtunin.htm

    You can use the formula to set the size of the pool. If you do not install the largest basin of the rman uses memory of shared pool which can cause the problem of e/s/execution.

    LARGE_POOL_SIZE = number_of_allocated_channels * (16 MB + (4 * size_of_tape_buffer))

    Hope this will help you.

    Thank you
    Krishna

    Hello

    The first given below is correct

    With this command you take backup of the database the slot rental "sw/oracle /.

    Run {}
    Compressed backupset backup
    lvel increamental = 0
    device type disk
    tag "weekly_fullbackup".
    format ' / sw/oracle/weekly_database_%d_t%t_s%s_p%p'
    database;
    }

    This command is not successful, the said Order yoy try to backup on the + ASM, which is not correct.
    The format is an option to indicate the place of backup to go

    Run {}
    Compressed backupset backup
    lvel increamental = 0
    device type disk
    tag "weekly_fullbackup".
    Format "+ data/weekly_database_%d_t%t_s%s_p%p".
    database;
    }

  • Win Vista Business 32-bit SP2 running: How can I get IE 8 to keep the user ID and PG for the sites?

    I'm under IE 8.0.6001.19019, with privileges for the Admin user, and I was not abe to understand why, unlike my other portable installation Win 7 SP1, as IE 8, I can't get the system to keep the user (not to mention passwords) ID I enter the website screens, for example: as my web Yahoo email account.  I have been through all the IE Tools / Internet options screens to see what I can and can't seem to find something there.

    Any thoughts?

    Block you cookies by moving the slider on the Privacy tab to the top or to a site from the list which is accessed through the Sites button. If this isn't your problem.

    If I remember well AVG Free scan deletes the cookies in a default scan. But it should be limited to tracking cookies.

    I'm not familiar with HotSpot Shield.

    You run like CCleaner cleaning software that deletes cookies?

    Apart from that, I am ideas. You could try to run without addons (type Internet Explorer in the area start search and select the no addons version) and see if this behavior persists.

    Just to clarify, the data is available if you navigate away from the site, then come back to open a session? Or is it only after close Internet explore and restart?

  • What is the best way to keep the high resolution when recording "for the web".

    the files that I save to the web so I can get them in jpg (or gif) are coming very pixelated.  That's when I print the image.

    What is the best way to save for the web, an image and keep the good resolution.

    using a business card template.  template Avery will allow me to attach images I want to project.  to do this...  I 'get file computer' and it deletes the image in but real little... then you are supposed to expand on your work as you want.  Well, when I enlarge this image file, it gets pixelated bad.  I think it's the way that I am saving it.  I do not adjust anything when I save.  Maybe I should.  This is where I need advice.

    That's what avery model notes on the images, I am allowed to use - when downloading the image, the maximum allowed size is 4 MB.  You can download the JPG and PNG RGB or CMYK images.  so when you recommend things, can you please take this into account

    Thanks for oyur times.

    Aida,.

    When you register with the default template using save for web, it's usually a setting very low.

    While in the registration window, you can set the size in pixels of the image you want with the quality and the resolution too.

    Refer to video tv.adobe.com save for web or Adobe Help file for detailed instructions.

  • The issue of charging - paid for 1 year then upgrade to higher Plan?

    If I had to pay for a plan Web Marketing for a year in advance. Then several months on the road I decided I want to put the plan to a level of e-commerce plan. Is it possible to upgrade the plan and pay the difference between the online marketing and e-commerce?

    How do upgrades work if I pay in advance?

    Hi Lynda,

    Yes, when you upgrade, you are only charged the difference for the rest of the current time.

  • You cannot change the format of RMAN backup

    Hello!

    I am trying to restore a backup of the database controlfiles in a new host solaris11 with RMAN in oracle 10 g. I have a solaris10 box where I installed database10g. As far as I know what I have to do is this:

    > define the dbid = 718308982;

    > startup nomount;

    > set controlfile autobackup format of disc type of the device of ' / u01/app/oradata/ACBET/%F';

    > Restore controlfile autobackup.

    However when I try to change the format, nothing happens.

    RMAN > set controlfile autobackup format of disc type of the device of ' / u01/app/oradata/ACBET/%F';

    executing command: SET CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT

    RMAN > show all.

    RMAN configuration parameters are:

    CONFIGURE REDUNDANCY 1 RETENTION STRATEGY; # by default

    CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION # by default

    SET UP DEFAULT DISK DEVICE TYPE; # by default

    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP # by default

    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO "%F" # default < = same configuration by default...

    SET UP THE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 1 BACKUP BACKUPSET TYPE; # by default

    CONFIGURE BACKUP OF DATA TO DISK FILE TYPE DEVICE TO 1; # by default

    CONFIGURE BACKUP ARCHIVELOG FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # by default

    CONFIGURE MAXSETSIZE TO UNLIMITED; # by default

    CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION OF DATABASE # by default

    CONFIGURE THE ENCRYPTION ALGORITHM "AES128"; # by default

    CONFIGURE THE NONE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY; # by default

    And when I try to do the restore command I get the following error:

    Hello world

    The problem with this restoration has been far from my knowledge. The real problem was that the backup files that they sent were made in a different boutien than the one I used in the new host. For the sake of those who find this post in the future, you can not use rman to make. Until the date of this post, he must either use a simple import/export (with pump data if you like) or using transportable tablespaces to move a database between the hosts with another platform.

    Thanks for all the help.

  • Why keep the Archivelogs after Archivelog backups?

    Greetings. I'm a long time SQL Server DBA operating on the dark side.

    So we are taking (AL) Archivelog backups every 30 minutes. However, it seems that it is not "empty" the former AL the way in which SQL Server would be "empty" when it backs up the transaction log. They still exist, consume space of course.

    The excerpt below shows me that it is not necessary for the latter to retain once they are saved. Of course this would free up space, but I guess there is a good reason not to want to delete them as well? My belief is that a restoration can occur faster with them still existing locally, but hoped someone could confirm / deny here? If this isn't the case, otherwise why would we want to keep them once they are saved?

    Thank you!

    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/bkup003.htm

    4.3.7.1.2 using BACKUP ARCHIVELOG with ENTRY REMOVE or REMOVE all THE ENTRIES

    You can specify the DELETE INPUT or DELETE ALL INPUT clauses for the BACKUP ARCHIVELOG command to delete the log files archived once they are saved, eliminating the separate step of manually delete the archived redo logs.

    > I guess that there is a good reason not to want to delete them as well

    No, not really. you do not raise a point that if you had to do a restore/recovery operation, it would be faster if they are already there, but this should be a rare operation?

    You may want to delete all saved archivelog 2 times (or 3 or 4, etc.) where your backup is bad - this way you ensure that you have several copies autour.

  • The copy of RMAN backup format

    Hello

    use the following rman block to take incremental backup to recover.

    run{
    allocate channel c1 type disk format 'd:\copy\%f';
    BACKUP INCREMENTAL LEVEL 1 FOR RECOVER OF COPY WITH TAG 'full_backup' DATABASE ;
    }

    It creates the backup under D. COPY directory, but the name of the backup copy is the data file file number. How can I take backup that has the same name as a data file that is users01.dbf real?

    Thank you

    SAQ

    Hello

    Thanks, but unfortunately it can not work. By specifying a file name unique 'users01.dbf' for the full database backup will ask other files copy to replace users01.dbf and command would fail. I got the solultion that is as follows.

    BACKUP AS COPY INCREMENTAL LEVEL 0 FORMAT 'd:\copy\SYSTEM01.DBF' TAG='DF_COPY' datafile 1;
    BACKUP AS COPY INCREMENTAL LEVEL 0 FORMAT 'd:\copy\SYSAUX01.DBF' TAG='DF_COPY' datafile 2;
    BACKUP AS COPY INCREMENTAL LEVEL 0 FORMAT 'd:\copy\UNDOTBS01.DBF' TAG='DF_COPY' datafile 3;
    BACKUP AS COPY INCREMENTAL LEVEL 0 FORMAT 'd:\copy\USERS01.DBF' TAG='DF_COPY' datafile 4;
    BACKUP AS COPY INCREMENTAL LEVEL 0 FORMAT 'd:\copy\FLOW_1046227278781593.DBF' TAG='DF_COPY' datafile 5;
