Console of r. used to fix the MBR, now dirve says "New Volume"

OK, I'm having a big problem.

I'll start by saying that my computer a few days ago has only been running a configuration to multibooting with linux on a disk and Windows XP on another. Linux using Grub to boot. Now, I recently updated my BIOS and this had caused a problem with GRUB not start XP properly. I decided to remove the Linux disk, simply launch XP as my main drive and physically switch the two when I need to use one or the other.

Given that I was removing Linux, I had to fix the MBR for Windows would be to start properly. I read online that all I had to do was start using my XP installation disk in the recovery console and doing a FIXMBR and FIXBOOT. I did it, but something went wrong and he said that I had to do a CHKDSK first. So I made "CHKDSK/r" and let stand overnight (this disc is 1. 5 t so it took a while).  So the next day after work I went back to finish the FIXMBR and FIXBOOT. He gave me the same message. Now I know exactly what I did after that, if I tried other commands or what, but I finally decided to just hang up and see what was going on.

In Linux, I see that the name of volume for my XP disc went from "XP 1. 5 t"to"new Volume ". Not good. Now I see there are two files listed: RECYCLER and System Volume Information. I guess that the disk has been reformatted somehow? Now I'm at the point where I use my XP Backup to another drive of four months ago. I did some research on the recovery partition, file recovery, etc. I came across a program (trial version) that finds deleted files. I installed and run for a few minutes. OK, good news, is that I do not see some of my files and folders, so I guess that the disk was not completely formatted/overwritten.

I don't know how the player got there where she is now. Maybe I used a bad command or a switch?

So my question is where to go from here? Should I get a new drive and recover the files on the new disk? Can I restore files and recover the old partition?

I hope I didn't confuse you too much. I appreciate any help you can give.

Hey Jimmy,

I personally never heard a user successfully remove the GRUB bootloader without a reinstall of Windows. You have no real solution is to reinstall Windows from the Windows partition is completely empty. I don't know any Linux file recovery tools, you may need to post in a Linux forum for Linux file recovery tools.

Sorry I don't have a better solution for you!
