Content categories to cause duplicate topics?

Hello, I write documentation for a major software package.

There are several different versions of the software being sold - the basic version is not certain features that are available in the premium version.

I decided to create content for my release of AirHelp categories, each representing different software.  In this way, users with the basic version of the program will see topics on the feature in their version, while those with the full package can use another category of content and see all topics related to their version.

So, for the test, I have three categories of content: input, mid-level and premium - I'll call them A, B and C respectively.

B contains all subjects, but a few additional ones.  C contains all subjects and most of the subjects of B, but a few unique ones.  In addition, B has some issues that are not in C.

I am able to implement successfully using conditional compilation tags, however, I find that when I build the exit, RoboHelp is duplicate topics included in each content category.  For example, all subjects (about 20 MB worth of content) are copied for categories B and C.

Duplication is causing the size of my documentation almost tripled (from 25 MB to more than 70 MB!), because all subjects are copied in categories B and C and so on.

It sounds ridiculous and a terrible waste of space! Is this the correct behavior or I do something wrong? I can't force users who auto-update to download three times the volume of the documentation, just so that they can have categories of content!

Hello

This is how it works in version 9 If you use the feature of content category. Each category you set will have copies of the subjects inside. At least that is my understanding of it is.

You might consider submitting a feature request to ask for a change of behavior.

  • Duplicate topics

    Hi all

We are facing a problem where we are given only 1 instance OBIEE to test.

I need to connect to DEV and a test instance.

I think an option where I'll duplicate the area in question and to create a new domain.

For example:-my current topic is "reports of shipping."

"I rename that ' Shiment DEV report" and duplicate to create a new topic (as well as the economic and physical model layer both) "shipment report UAT.

"Now, I want to ' Shiment DEV report ' based DEV and"Send report UAT"to UAT database.

    Is it possible and feasible?

Any other idea of shortcut is also welcome. I tried the merge to RPD, but instead to create domain 2, admin is canned only 1 domain.

I want to duplicate the existing domain.

    Appreciate the input

Take a copy of RPD existing call as A.rpd and the basis of one's base.rpd

in A.rpd, rename the physical layer then layer MDB and the presentation layer

and make connection point Test environment settings.

Save it and keep open the A.rpd

With the help of different open Admintool base.rpd

Copy the contents of the physical layer of A.rpd by using CTRL + C

base.rpd click on the physical layer and paste, then save with no consistency

Do the same for each MDB and presentation

at the end except + consistency

host, mark this as correct and have fun

  • Is there a guide "Dummies" for the implementation of the content categories?

Use: RoboHelp 11 on a Windows 7 system.

I looked in the help, and I looked at the example project EmployeeCare2 (which has only one category of content, WE (by default) and therefore does not display the advantage of having several categories). I'm still not the best approach for setting this up. For example, do you need to create a table of unique contents for each content category and then include only the relevant topics in the table of contents?

We have several types of users for our application of Touchstone

    • Underwriters
    • Agents of reinsurance
    • Insurance agents
    • The Business management unit
    • System administrators

Should I create a table of contents for each type of user, including in this only topics of interest for each user?

I then create browse sequences applicable to typical workflows of each user?

Has anyone seen a good documentation about this feature?

Note: In our current help system, which uses WebHelp Pro, I had to, for reasons of different license, create a table of contents for each type of product analysis (e.g., loss, danger, geospatial data quality). Each TOC included subjects and topics related only to the type of joint analysis. In addition, each TOC contained conditional compilation expressions. When a user launches the Help menu, the user sees only the modules of assistance for their licensed products. While this works fine for our needs, we met some odd behavior with browse sequences.  It seems that the approach I took is similar to the way that authors need to develop categories of content.

It is said in the subject of the employee in charge 2 SSL "If you want to learn more about Dynamic User-Centric categories (categories of content) or AIR support, refer to the example of Salesbuilder 2 project."

The table of contents can be separated or customized through the use of tags. What is the best will be dictated by how you wrote your subjects, even for sequences of browse.

  • Table of contents presentation - ok to duplicate entries?

    Hello

How did you handle a table of contents where the duplicate entries seemed to be useful? This project of Webhelp includes many reports in several projects as shown below.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

    TABLE OF CONTENTS

Types of reports (book) (this list reports is required by our company()

    Bird (book) project reports

    • Report 1 (page)
    • Report 2 (page)

    Fish (book) project reports

    • Report 1 (page)
    • Report 2 (page)
    • Report (page)

    Reports of project tree (book)

    • Report 1 (page)
    • Report 2 (page)

()further down the table of contents()

    Projects of the bird (book)

    • Find birds (page)
    • Take Notes (page)
    • Project reports Bird (book) (you can see that it would be useful in these sections of the project to duplicate report lists)
      • Report 1 (page)
      • Report 2 (page)

    Projects of the fish (book)

    etc.

I used two techniques, as required:

    • Create snippets with all the content and use it on different subjects. This is useful in situations where topic title and name of the theme file must be different, but the content is the same. I use this for pages in different modules with different names but with the same functions.
    • Create a new table of contents and which merge in several places in the main table of contents. I use this to repeat several books with pages in several places. This allows me to use the menu once. I also use it to divide the appreciable chuncks main menu.

    Kind regards

  • Content and the list of topics build Tags

View the topic list does not show the properties of the tag Content to build all the subjects that have.

    Using Windows 7, 64-bit, RH9-HTML.

I checked the properties of some of the subjects and that they actually have a label of selected construction, but this tag does not appear in the column of the tag Content to build in the display of the list of topics.

I don't exactly know when it changed, but I recently upgraded from RH8 to RH9.  Could have been then.

It seems that the tags work for my generated layout.

Only one other common point seems to be they are all topics not in a table of contents (TOC = no), but there could be others.  Is it normal?

    Hello

I think that we compare the spider to hedgehogs here. Build labels can be applied to content within a subject. (Words, paragraphs, characters, Images, etc.) and they contained level tags. But build Tags can also be applied to the entire field. There are two columns, you can choose to display to the pod of the list of topics. You are showing the column tag Content. If you right click on the bar of the label and activate the topic level column, you should see what you presented in the first image is listed as he seems to have a label applied to the level of the topic.

  • Level 3 Table of contents are a book with topics of level 2 under

I'm a framework any 9 RH8. I have traced my styles in Conversion, and on FM settings I have implemented the TOC styles while titre3 was a police more indented and smaller than Title2. But when the table of contents are generated in HR, I get something like this:

    HEADING 1

    Section 2A

    heading 3a

    Heading 3b

    section 3 c

    Section 2B

    Section 2 c

    I've attached screenshots.

Try to structure your table of contents FM differently. I was having a similar problem and found that if I change the indentation of the OCD FM I'm importing, I can change the structure of the table of contents of HR.

  • Table of contents links merged Cause subjects to open in a new window

    Hi all

I have a master .chm file and several .chm files merged with it. RH5/6 these were works well when I clicked on their links TOC; they open properly as expected in the Viewer as well as the main help file. Now, after installing RH7 yesterday and using to compile my master file, if I click on one of the merged TOC links, the subproject opens inside is clean.

Suggestions on how to solve this problem?

    Thanks in advance!

    Jared

I managed to fix it by removing and add in the projects merged in the master TOC. In fact, which fixed another problem I had with browse sequences. Colum will be happy.

  • Categories of content causing install error Robohelp 9

I spent the week Troubleshooting of an error I receive by updating an installed version of my AIR with a new revision aid project.  I have been careful to keep the ID 'help' the same and only to increment the Version '.»  It worked several times in the past for the same project.

The only variable that has changed in this new version of my project, it's that I use now "Content Categories."  I noticed that when you use the content categories, the structure of the "/ data" installation directory is very different. Everyone has experienced errors when trying to install a review of using AIR after the use of content categories?

Install the draft (with the new categories of content) in a new installation directory works very well.

Try first generate on a local drive, I see that the Adobe AIR presentation is generated on a network drive. I would try to generate all four in the same folder and then moving copies to different clearly named folders.

When you tried to install again, if you still have problems, try to use the same certificate for both. I don't think this is the cause but who want to exclude all difference.

Which are the differences between these two layouts, please also check all the settings of the other differences.

  • Categories of RH9, WebHelp, content, Zoom

    Hello

It's a delicate explanation (or problem), so please bear with me.  I think I'm doing something that is simply not possible.

    HR 9.0.2.271

    Webhelp

    Zoom 6 10.08

I have a HR project with conditional compilation tags.  Previously, in RH8, I used the tags to generate 2 outputs, 1 user and 1 Administrator. Guide. On the skin, I created buttons that launched the "other document"; in the User Guide, this button launches the Administrator's Guide (in a new window) and vice versa.  Zoom search folders were separated; a customer might search in the guide what they were viewing.

Now, in RH9, I tried to make it a little easier for the customer using the function of categories of content. In my case, the choice of the menu drop-down is user and admin. With that, I can remove the buttons 'launch guide the _' on the skin and modification of the user guide, admin guide is quite transparent. Also with this new structure, I did search Zoom "global", which means that the customer is looking for the user guide and Admin at the same time.  Everything works fine until the customer clicks on a result... and the trouble begins. I have problems with the table of contents... See the script below:

    1. view/content category = User Guide

    2. the customer between 'save' in the search field, but he wants to search for "all categories" (in front of the user and Admin Guides).

    3. research results show results user and Admin Guide. (planned)

    4. the customer clicks on a result of the research of the Administrator's Guide.  This causes the page to display in the content pane. (Yes!)  However, the table of contents still displays "User Guide" (see #1) so it does not synchronize with the rendered page because the currently displayed page is the admin. Guide.  (as a 2nd stage, should the customer click on the breadcrumb on the page they are viewing, (they are still in the Administrator's Guide), the table of contents are not save anything and still displays the User Guide in the category list, he's actually dead)

    5. the customer clicks on a result of the User Guide for the step #2.  Displays the correct page and the TOC syncs with the displayed page. It's because of #1.

I want to have is that if the customer is in the User Guide, did a search, but wants to see the result of the admin. Guide, they could click on this link, which would cause the table of contents of the Guide Admin view and synchronize with the displayed page.  Is this possible?

I dbl - ckd this toc sync is on (it works fine, except for the scenario above).

For those who search HR job... How content categories works with it?  You can search for only you are in the category of content? Or you can search in all categories of content? How should he behave?

    Thanks in advance...

    JGaf

Just display rear in case anyone else comes across this question...

No way around incompatibility where the table of contents does not correspond with the content pane because the two "guides" are in a combined zoom search configuration.

I added 2 redirects to different search so that by clicking the search button on the toolbar while in the user's Guide will launch a specific search.html for the User Guide and vice versa for the Administrator's Guide.  On each search page page, I just added a specific warning on the issue. "As you watch the xxx Guide" etc.   I also added and placeholder additional navigation on every page of the documentation and then applied the conditional compilation flags that will be displayed when the user has clicked more precisely.

    Sounds confusing, but it works...!

  • categories of content drop-down list will not open

I'm new to RoboHelp so bear with me: first of all, I don't see how to search for FAQ short Ctrl-F on the current page. Second, with a trial CD of RoboHelp HTML 10 installation in a generated WebHelp layout that the content of the menu categories drop down will not open to allow the user to select the second category / default.

    Hello again from Leslie

Just watch the video. Thank you

I wonder if this may be the associated browser. I noticed that you use Microsoft Internet Explorer. But I can't tell what version. Even though it seems pretty new. (Personally, I'm a Firefox user)

You have installed Firefox? If so, have you tried the output in Firefox? Note that I'm not encourage you to spend, only I was wondering if you could try out of Firefox to see if you get different behavior.

Also, I am aware that things * SHOULD * work by using the mouse, but another thing, you could try would be to focus the drop with the mouse, and then press the arrow key down and see if you can select the second category in this way.

In regards to things not found in the search, this is the expected behavior. When you use content categories, you create as much of different outputs of WebHelp as you defined categories. When you are in the category of the East where you excluded the content of the West, it is quite reasonable that you can't find everything related to the West, when you perform a search. Once you manage to get the menu drop-down allows you to change the category of the West, the search will probably fail to East of information (assuming that you have a build expression and a label exclusion information from the East).

Everything seemed to go well, but the end result is no data of vrops Li and connection errors in the newspapers of the agent without clear indication of why it is not agent connection.

Viewing the log file, I see a lot of counters indicating the date, the agent of time shows that he has worked for a few days now with more 8 million observed events.

However, interrupted events number matches the 8 million observed number of events which means that everything has been ignored "due to the overflow of local storage or rejected by the server" as stated in the article.

Two things, I thought maybe to blame that I don't know how to fix:

    1. vmw_vr_ops_hostname = IP address? same as address of node? My cluster shows the node address as the IP address rather than a FULL domain name. I tried to provide as well in the ini file, but doesn't seem to help, but I find it weird that I don't see the name domain FULL configuration section that I linked to suggested that I should. And what is listed here would be that I filled in the ini file to vmw_vr_ops_hostname file?2015-08-24_14-30-14.jpg
    2. In vrops, under Administration > Support > newspapers > change the Logger Configuration > export to Syslog, no matter how many times I uncheck the box 'exit of syslog server logs' external and click ok the box remains checked off the coast. I'm sure that this must be unchecked, but even if it were problems, as I understand it, it would be especially causing duplicate rather logs that prevent all newspapers to appear as is my case.

According to this article it is said: "If export syslog is configured then the required configuration of the specific agent is not set and the syslog Protocol is used instead of the cfapi." It is also very important to note that configurations can and will be replaced! By example, if you configure the agent works with the content pack (for example. liagent.ini) client-side and later someone configure syslog export from the user interface, the configuration of the client-side agent are crushed with the parameters of the interface user break the integration of content package. »

vRealize content Operations Manager Pack for newspaper Insight - SFlanders.net

Given that syslog export was apparently when I first tried to set this up, it would make sense that this is what causes problems, but how could I then set? Especially when the user interface won't let not disable me export syslog on vrops?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you

Very useful - I think that the problem is with the [server] section if your configuration. What is the host name = value? It can be solved? The reconnecting log messages are expected that the delayed connection makes it sound like the configuration of the host name does not.

  • Vacuum/Invisible topics, multiple authors

I'm in a situation where I share a project with two other authors. All three of us access to the directory structure of the project through the office LAN, but I RoboHelp 7 installed on my machine, while the other two authors contribute less frequently, and they use a remote desktop connection to access RoboHelp 7 installed on a network resource.

I have created dozens of topics and successfully published the project for months. Two of my subjects seem to be empty for the other two authors, when they try to open them from the network resource. They can see, see their page in the table of contents and double click it to open them in the work area, but what they see is a subject is empty.

One of the other authors recently published some updates in other parts of the manual that also somehow white the topic in our published product (internal use fortunately) AND overshadowed the topic real .htm file in the project directory structure. When I went to open the topic on my local machine, he was gone. I had to go to a layout of the playground and rebuild the subject of an earlier version.

My colleague author still cannot see the content of the topic. So yesterday, I deleted the subject entirely and created a new section with the same name. She can't ALWAYS see the content of my brand new... Any ideas what could cause a topic appear empty to another author?

We do not use Version control, as we so seldom in the same parts of the project. It is a case of version control if I ever saw one. We are his retirement this RH7 project in a few months, and I already have a SVN repository that is aligned to the replacement project. Yet, the question remains. What makes a subject appear empty?

    Hi Heath

The only way that RoboHelp HTML works reliably is to keep the project on your C drive and from there to work on it. You really need to move the project off the network drive. Until you do this, it is not much of help we can (or would be willing to try and) provide to resolve this situation.

  • JavaScript Command Window.getComputedStyle (document.body, ': after') .getPropertyValue ('content') returns the content with quotes

When I use in my css:
    body: after {}
    content: "mobile";
    display: none;
    }
And by controlling javascript with the command:
    size var = window.getComputedStyle (document.body, ': after') .getPropertyValue ('content');

I get in firefox (mac v 23.0.1) returns the '' mobile' ' string with double quotes as return and, therefore, checking if size == 'mobile' returns false. In safari, the value returned 'mobile' without the quotes. How is it?

What you get is a string that represents what you specified in the content.

    A content specification can include other things like a counter: body: after {content: "subjects []" counter (topics) "]" ;}}

size = window.getComputedStyle(document.body,_':after').content would give: 'subjects []' counter (topics) "].

    If you need test the exact text of the contents: size == ' 'mobile "";

We are looking for a way to put structured content in the content server.

For example: we need an article with teaser, photo, text, title, aso.

In addition, the content must be in a WebCenter Portal Application.

We have already tested the Studio Site with element (title, teaser, photo, text) and definitions of the region (article).

This might work, but we are always looking for a different solution.

Their any other, is so possible ability to store content like this in the Webcenter content?

    Thanks for your help.

No, I think you're on the right track.

The main reason is that you need to support your use of the WebCenter content both sides cause WebCenter portal, and as far as I know, this is the way out-of-the-box to display content using Presenter content models. All the rest should probably be some development, so unless you have serious reasons, I would take this approach. And even if you have, it might be easier to adjust the standard way to meet your needs rather than develop something from scratch.
