Context menu ' New > compressed (zipped) folder ' vs ' send to > compressed (zipped) folder ".

I'm moving again right click and zip file, but the option is not there. I have to right click and go to send to, and then compressed zip folder or use 7-zip and move everything on the desktop, create copies and then to have to go back and delete after that is very time consuming. I just want to do a right-click option of origin go again and zip folder back. Can anyone help?

The context menu (the thing that appears when you right-click) is different if you right click on an empty space on your desktop to the right by clicking on an icon on your desktop.

If you click on an icon, you get the choice ' send to ' with several sub-menus including "Compressed folder (zip)."

If you right-click an empty space on the desktop, you get the 'New' choice with several submenus, including "" the file compressed (zipped)."

If you click on the icons of some - but not all-, you will get a 'New' choice that has no submenus.  Selection of the 'new' opens in some program opens the item specified by the icon.  In other words, if you right-click on a Word document (or a shortcut to a Word document), by selecting 'New' opens Word.  Items that are associated with programs that cannot create a new file (for example, Adobe Reader for pdf files) won't even have the choice of 'new '.

Then... If you right click on an empty spot on your desktop, is the 'New' element?  And if it is, is "File compressed (zipped)" absent from the list of submenus?  If so, see number 3 here (and read the below directions on this page)--> http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/28677-new-context-menu-remove-restore-default-menu-items.html

So, I thought about it. It indeed is a corruption of the menu prompt integrated (that I didn't know existed until I started to search for this problem).  The problem and the fix is here:

There is a key called "command" in HKCR\Directory\shell. Delete the key "cmd" under "shell", and then adding the following code appear to have solved the problem.

In any case it isn't a real problem for me because I use notepad ++, but again, I don't like it when things on my computer happens I don't know so what I want is someone explain me how exactly this could have happened.

    Hi Nortd,

Your question of Windows 7 is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. It is better suited for the developer IT Pro audience on MSDN. Please post your question in the MSDN Forums. Thank you!

    Hello again,

Another reason for not getting answers in due time, it's that you post in the wrong forum in "answers". This should really be posted in this forum...

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive/Forum/Messenger

.. because Windows live call is part of messenger. By posting your question in the wrong forum you not reach the largest selection of possible contributors, perhaps even eliminate everyone with the appropriate knowledge.

You have already been informed of the connection of Windows live call with messenger by Srinivas KR in your original question.

In short, most of the lack of response, you have found is down to your own lack of knowledge about the best way to get results. If you want to use a new tool, it is always a good idea to do some research before you use it so that you can get the best out of it. "Answers" are your information tool and will make you much better work for you if you are reading this...

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/page/FAQ

.. .in conjunction with the link I gave in another of your questions.

    That said...

It doesn't seem like Messenger have the ability to disable this option. Editing the registry appears as a possible solution. Editing the registry when done incorrectly can have serious detrimental effects on your system. Do so at your own risk. I can say that I followed the instructions here...

    http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-remove-Windows-Live-call-entry-from-new-ShellNew-menu/

.. .and they worked on my PC.

Of course, if you do not use Messenger, you could just uninstall as advised previously by Srinivas KR.

  • Option ' send to ' missing from the context menu

    guys,
I use windows vista and have recently lost the option ' send to ' context menu. Help, please. Thank you.

    Mukul Modani,
Looks like there is a problem with the registry entry for the menu "send to".

Important: This document is to modify the Windows registry. Serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about the back upward, and restore the registry, review of the Microsoft article 332756 Knowledge Base (how to back up and restore the registry in Windows).

Try these steps and see if it solves your problem:

    1. Click Start, and then type regedit.exe in the search field. When appears in regedit.exe, press enter or click on its icon.
    2. Provide consent or credentials appropriate to user account control if prompted.
    3. In the tree pane, navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
    4. Open the subkey send to. If it does not exist, create it.
    5. In the subkey send worms, you will see a (default) string value. Ensure that it is set to {7BA4C740-9E81-11CF-99D3-00AA004AE837}.
    6. Log in and turn it on.

If you are able to change the registry, I exported the correct values from the registry a new installation of Windows Vista that you can import. Simply download the following ZIP file, extract the content inside the file, double-click it and click 'Yes' to the guests.

  • why I can't add a new folder under windows 7 windows explorer, but I cannot add a new compressed folder?

When I right click and select 'New' there is no option to select a new folder, just a new compressed folder. It is in the Windows7 windows Explorer. So I can't create a new folder.

You have installed chrome? It's looking like a recent update of chromium may be the cause. Here are two patches.

  • "Send to desktop" missing from the context menu of Explorer

I have a new install of Windows 7 pro, but I worked with her for a few weeks for some programs to run. I just realized that I can't create a shortcut for the Office in the normal way, with a right click and "send to"---> desk. "Send to" is present in the first Panel to right click, but the "office" is missing from the Panel following if you selected "send to."

I created another profile and the 'office' is, as appropriate, when above sequence is started.

What could be wrong, or more importantly, how can it be corrected?

I see another post in this group with instructions to create a new profile and copy that to her. I can do that, of course, but when I do there always seems to be something missing, so if there is one solution (other than a restaurant), I would be happy to hear about it.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions, links, explanations, etc.

  • Is it possible to change the order of items in the context menu of 'link' (I want to 'open in a new window... ("Be the first)?

I did an upgrade FF v3.6.xx to v17.0.x and found that the order of items in the context menu 'Link' is not the same.
v3.6 menu looks as follows: 1. "Open link in a new window", 2. "Open link in a new tab,"
order of the items in menu v17.0 is 1 reverse. "Open link in a new tab", 2. " Open the link in a new window. "
Position of all the other elements are uninteresting to me.
How to exchange it two points higher in the contextual menu "link"?

    The two ways are useful:

"Drag-n-drop" in the Editor window works.

For my Windows XP path looks like: "C:\Documents and Settings\%account%\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\%random_name%\chrome\userChrome.css".

  • "Send to..." 'Recipient' disable the context menu in Explorer for JPG does not or not broken.

Problem on VISTA ULTIMATE 32.  I have all the latest patches. It's a laptop ASUS M70. Default email course is Windows Mail.

In the Windows Photo Gallery, when I select a photo, then click on "messages" then that nothing happens.
In Solution Explorer, select a JPG photo, and then I can either 1) click on "E-mail" or 2) via the context menu, select "send to" followed by "Recipient" and appears "attach files" box that allows me to resize the jpg file. If I want to, I can cancel it with success. However, if I select "join" then it shows "Preparing to send" and just hangs there.  If I cancel (after say 1 to 10 minutes), it hangs there doing nothing with the message «Cancel...» "indefinitely.    If I cancel the application "attach files" in the Task Manager, it lowers the Explorer.

What is going on? What I want to do is ' send to ' 'recipient' some resizing photos (via the context menu in the Explorer). There is no problem to send other files e.g. *.mp3.

I just noticed that (even if an instance of "Attach files" is 'preparing to send' or 'Cancel') it will work properly if I do not resize. In other words, if I want to send the original size. While so-called to resize JPG? Is it an idea to my problem?

    Hi MikeW404,

As it works fine in safe mode then there could be some third party software installed on the computer are contradictory in normal mode, I would say that you clean the clean boot procedure and check.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Perform the check and the clean boot if you have the problem.
    1. click on Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.
    2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.
    3. under Selective startup, clear the Load Startup items check box.
    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click disable all.
    5. click on OK.
    6. When you are prompted, click restart.
    7. after the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.

If the problem is resolved to check what is the cause of the problem, referring to the link given below:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135
Reset the computer to start as usual
When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:
Click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click continue.
On the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.
When you are prompted to restart the computer, click restart.

  • "Open containing folder" missing from the context menu

When I do a search, I want to right click on a result and open the containing folder.  But for some reason any, since I had a Windows 7 machine, this option is not - or "Opened" or "open file location". Is it possible to get it back?

No, it does not appear in the context menu in Windows Explorer.  That's the problem.

I found that pressing the Shift while clicking on gives a different context menu that does not contain the option. I have no idea why it does not appear in the contextual menu.
