Windows 7 | Context menu | new text file missing?

Hi, I'm currently break my head on this problem I have. All of a sudden miss me the 'new text' file option in the context menu.

I mean, bloody iv had it a few days ago and now all I get is a RTF document. Even if I rename the document in .txt .rtf, he wrote again a few _ bull inside.

In any case it isn't a real problem for me because I use notepad ++, but again, I don't like it when things on my computer happens I don't know so what I want is someone explain me how exactly this could have happened.

Hi Nortd,

Your question of Windows 7 is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. It is better suited for the developer IT Pro audience on MSDN. Please post your question in the MSDN Forums. Thank you!

  • Explorer.exe crashes when access to the context menu of any file character 1 long

I use Windows XP SP3 and Explorer keeps if crush when I access the contextual (right click menu) not any folder that is one character long (a - z, 0-9).  For example, the folder labeled a will fail if it contains files or subfolders, if there in any directory, if it is on another drive, on the context menu.  In addition, in order to exclude any invalid context record, I have disabled all non-Microsoft tool ShellMenuView context menus.  I also tried to run Fixit 50043.  I also did a scan antivirus with norton antivirus.  Found nothing, no improvement.  It is 100% compatible.  BTW, I have already run System File Checker, and asides from this problem my system is perfect.  Everyone knows about this problem?  Any ideas on how to fix this problem without having to re - install XP?

This applies only when the folder is labeled 1 character.  I don't know how the visual c ++ runtimes into play with explorer.exe in the context menu.  Re-don't install C++ runtimes for 2005, 2008, 2010 shows no improvement and install it with success.

  • Context menu ' New > compressed (zipped) folder ' vs ' send to > compressed (zipped) folder ".

I'm moving again right click and zip file, but the option is not there. I have to right click and go to send to, and then compressed zip folder or use 7-zip and move everything on the desktop, create copies and then to have to go back and delete after that is very time consuming. I just want to do a right-click option of origin go again and zip folder back. Can anyone help?

The context menu (the thing that appears when you right-click) is different if you right click on an empty space on your desktop to the right by clicking on an icon on your desktop.

If you click on an icon, you get the choice ' send to ' with several sub-menus including "Compressed folder (zip)."

If you right-click an empty space on the desktop, you get the 'New' choice with several submenus, including "" the file compressed (zipped)."

If you click on the icons of some - but not all-, you will get a 'New' choice that has no submenus.  Selection of the 'new' opens in some program opens the item specified by the icon.  In other words, if you right-click on a Word document (or a shortcut to a Word document), by selecting 'New' opens Word.  Items that are associated with programs that cannot create a new file (for example, Adobe Reader for pdf files) won't even have the choice of 'new '.

Then... If you right click on an empty spot on your desktop, is the 'New' element?  And if it is, is "File compressed (zipped)" absent from the list of submenus?  If so, see number 3 here (and read the below directions on this page)--> http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/28677-new-context-menu-remove-restore-default-menu-items.html

  • The context menu 'this framework' is missing

There are two users in question, the two Firefox running on Windows 7 36.0.1. When right clicking on a frame in a Web site, they have a context menu option 'the framework', echoes cascading on to provide various actions you can take (this frame printed, etc.). The other user doesn't have this option. To the best of my knowledge, the two users are running installs similar: the default collection of plug-ins that are enabled in our enterprise environment, they do not have twisted all topic parameters: config, etc. Why 'This framework' context menu would only not available for one of them? Is there a way to force be activated?

    I found it...

I re-read your posts tonight and spent some time tinkering with Firefox on my machine at home (36.0.3 on Win8.1). I was watching my mailbox in OWA, which has a shared mailbox added as well. I discovered that the messages in the shared mailbox Inbox had the option of this framework in the context menu, while the Inbox has no messages in my personal mailbox.

A little back of comparison and I finally noticed: display the list of my Inbox is configured to display Conversations by Date (see screenshot). However, the shared mailbox Inbox had the Conversations view option deselected.

When the Conversations view option is disabled, OWA displayed each message in the reading pane in a frame. In Conversations mode, it seems to use CSS for the reading instead of this pane.

Thank you for your help is in the right direction.

  • How to add "Add to Windows Media Player list" to the context Menu of the specific file types

I use Windows XP Professional 64-bit and I can't understand how to do this, even after hours of reading on google.

When I right click. MP3 files or. AVI files, they give the option to context menu "Add to Windows Media Player list" but other files that I wish it would show for such as. MKV or. AAC, I can't show him for. I have searched everywhere in the windows registry and cannot for the life of understand me this.

It works perfectly well and appears on our windows vista computer and the old 32-bit windows xp computer, but it does not appear on my new current.

How I'd go about adding this choice "Add to Windows Media Player list" when I right click on. MKV and. AAC files?

If possible, I would like to do this without having to install any software. I don't have a problem with the registry change and prefer it if possible.

  • How to add commands to the context menu for the types of files (add associations)?

I would like to download anime and re - encode standard dvd (mpeg2) format before you burn it to a DVD for better quality.  I have a program suite that supports the grunt work, but to do a contextual menu command that calls the original batch file that the user must manually add it to the menu of context by file association.  I found that I can access the menus of file associations, but the option to add a new association with an existing file type does not seem to exist.  Is there a registry entry, I need to change or add to allow me to customize my context menus in Windows 7?

Create a text file (make sure you have the framework where you DO NOT hide known file extensions unmarked)

Change the new text file... Copy the following: [quote]

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMP11. AssocFile.AVI\shell\Queue for encoding]
    @= "& Queue for encoding.

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMP11. AssocFile.AVI\shell\Queue for Encoding\command]
    "@="c:\\dvdstudio\\scripts\\Queue.bat \"%1\"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMP11. AssocFile.MP4\shell\Queue for encoding]
    @= "& Queue for encoding.

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMP11. AssocFile.MP4\shell\Queue for Encoding\command]
    "@="c:\\dvdstudio\\scripts\\Queue.bat \"%1\"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CCCP. WMP. AssocFile.MKV.1\shell\Queue for encoding]
    @= "& Queue for encoding.

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CCCP. WMP. AssocFile.MKV.1\shell\Queue for Encoding\command]
    "@="c:\\dvdstudio\\scripts\\Queue.bat \"%1\"

    [/ quote]

Save the text file..., rename the text file with the .reg extension

Double-click the new registry file to add the context menu commands to your registry... everything is done! :)

And thank you very much, BluePlateSpecial!

  • Is it possible to add a context menu to the blocks of text?

I try to add an element of context menu for text blocks, I'm kind of a begginner with Creative Suite Extension Builder, I found out how to add a context menu, but not how to add it based on what the user right click. If anyone can point me in the right direction (with a bit of the code example will help a lot), I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance!

You're talking about adding a menu item to the "layout context Menu. Right? If you need the text context Menu, then it's simple...

Here's what you need to do in this case: you need to fix a BEFORE_DISPLAY event on the menu and check what is the currently selected item. If it is a block of text, you add the menu item. If this isn't the case, you delete it. (You will obviously need to check if it is already there first...)

Make sure you only to add and remove menu item and not the associated scriptMenuAction.

  • Loading backup to new computer file, I get an error message.

I tried to move my favorites to a new computer by using the backup file I prepared and stored on my external hard drive, but I get an error message.

    This error message you get?

    You can attach a screenshot?

    • Use a type of compressed as PNG or JPG image to save the screenshot
    • Make sure you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

Make sure that the bookmarks backup file has the correct extension (lowercase):

    • .html for HTML backup (must be imported and merges bookmarks)
    • . JSON for JSON backup (must be restored and replaces bookmarks)

You can check the file type using the context menu of that file and open properties.
If you are unsure of the type of file, then you can open the file in Firefox via "Firefox > new tab > open a file" or "file > open a file.
A JSON backup will appear as a single line of text without line breaks and an HTML backup looks like a webpage with clickable links.

    A JSON backup begins with: {"title": "","id": 1, "dateAdded": }
An HTML backup begins with: <! DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-leader-1 >

Check the file type in the properties using the context menu to make sure that the change was successful.

Windows hides certain default file extensions.
Among them are .html, .ini and .js, .txt, so you can see only file name without the file extension.
You can see the type of actual file (file extension) in the properties of the file via the context menu in Windows Explorer.

  • How to remove the context menu buttons?

    Hello

I have a pretty annoying problem. I have installed GNU Emacs and Emacs W32 some time ago, but spent to vim. However, in the menu context (context menu) for any file text (.txt, .c or .java) it is always an option called "Edit with Emacs." Now, obviously I no longer use Emacs and uninstalled several months ago. However, I can't get rid of this option in the registry. When I click on it now it opens the 'Open with' instead.
Anyone know how to remove this option from the context menu?
    Thank you!

Take a look at the app ShellMenuView. See http://www.techspot.com/guides/210-edit-windows-extended-context-menu/ for instructions and download.

  • Smart mailboxes endangered, but get offered in context menu search

    Hello community,

I use a lot "letters/smart folders boxes" to organize e-mail. Sometimes a "mailbox smart" simply disappeared from the sidebar, but when I search via the search box (top right) the context menu search watch box missing mailbox and when selected works. I can't find a way how to get the missing 'mailbox smart"visible in the sidebar. I recreate it, since the original "smart mailbox" had never disappeared from the system, all the recreated "the smart mailboxes" appear in the popup of search.

So, how do I remove all duplicates, and what causes this problem in the first place.

I tried to expand and collapse the "smart mailbox folder", restart Mail.app and reboot the laptop. I also read the old posts regarding missing "the smart mailboxes", but they are quite old.

I am rather lost at this point, that's why I hope someone has an idea or even a solution.

    Thanks in advance.
