Controlling many GPIB

Hello

I just saw in my laboratories there are many instruments with GPIB port. I know that I can control and enter the data from the instruments. However, control of several instruments with GPIB communication simultaneously? Networking analogy, I know that I can simply use switch/hub for communication between the clients/servers. Is there an any 'switch/hub' that can connect several GPIB and control (for example via LabView)? Should I convert all my GPIB with GPIB-RS232 or GPIB-Ethernet port until I use the switch?

Thank you.

Ricki

Hello Ricki,

Thanks for your post on the forum. Ethernet to GPIB is the only solution to your problem. You are able to connect 14 GPIB devices to a converter.

Best regards

    Hello

The idea is that some areas (rectangles) inside the image control that is updated all the time with different colors. (according to a parameters measured)

I have a large loop that takes a shift register that contains the image control.

I noticed that the operations of different 'draw the Rectangle' I am the scene are piling up so the memory continues to increase...

I did a small sample program that demonstrates this behavior.

I want to update the image all the time in simple control. How can I ensure that memory does not get stored? Are there functions with which I can replace a portion of the image control with a new pixel values rather than simply add these new values each time for the image control?

Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hi k_tunsten,

Just remove the register shift. The result is the same, but the performance is much better and will not increase the memory.

OK this isn't really the same thing, but the indicator buffer puts the old image, so that it looks the same.

    It will be useful.

  • If I use my like my DAQ GPIB controller to control my instruments?

Hi, I am a beginner in BT and need your help for dead on my undrestanding clarification:

Suppose I want to control 7 instruments (such as temperature sensor, osciloscope,...), instruments using my GPIB controller, in other words, my pieces as my DAQ GPIB (am I right this step?) doesn't not need to communicate between them, but whenever I read the temperature value, I'm doing some calculations in my code LV and then decide what changes apply to instruments for example reduction of the frequency of the signal generator , pls I would like to know if I have done my DAQ correctly? (I mean if the GPIB controller acts as my DAQ) then comment how to decide what kind of GPIB is suitable for my work

    I really need your help,

    Thank you

    elahetal,

If you have all the tools you need, you now have the following equipment (to summarize)

    (1) to a computer.  It must be decently fast, especially if you order 5 + machines, but it should not be surprising.

    (2) a GPIB card that works with your computer (PCI slot or PCIe, etc.).  I HIGHLY recommend a NI GPIB card, especially if you use it to write a labview program.  3 party cards can complicate your life village.

    (3) GPIB cables to each machine (if you have 2 computers, there are 2 cables).  If a machine is not a GPIB connector, it can not be controlled of GPIB.  There may be a RS-232 or USB drive.  These connections need not a GPIB cable, they need their respective cables.  Some machines also cannot be digitally controlled.  A DMM from the 1960s is probably not the connectors or the internal hardware to be part of your installation.  Make sure that each piece of equipment can be controlled by the computer

Things I would do to get started on your code LV.

    (1) download the drivers for each instrument.  The drivers are code LV, when it is executed, allowing you to communicate with your instrument.  Some drivers are pre-assembled with interfaces that resemble your machine controls, others come with orders but no interface.  The quality of each driver can vary.  If there is no such thing as no driver, reading extensively the manual of the instrument and the protocols of the connection you are using (GPIB, USB, etc.).

    (2) get each work unit separately.  If you can get each device to be controlled entirely by computer, you are 80% of the way.  This can take a long time.  I know that I took several weeks to get each device works correctly.  Once, you have separate codes and know that each device can be controlled by the computer (or only dump information), then you are ready to code.

    (3) build the master code by bringing together the different parts.  If you think of him as Fortran or C programming, it becomes very easy.

Regarding semantics, data acquisition is the whole plant; instruments + computer + GPIB.  Your computer is the controller and the bus is the GPIB cables where are transmitted data, commands and responses.  Read up on it.

  • VXI by GPIB on LV 2009 + Windows 7 help

Hello.  I have no experience with VXI.

I have a client who got hired to encode a VXI product that has been marketed as controlled by GPIB (the chassis contains a GPIB interface).

I was informed late last night I have to use Plug and Play VXI drivers to make it work.  (Long story and I am not happy about).

    I'm coding LV2009 SP1 on Windows 7.

I installed NI-VISA and NOR-VXI.  I can see the GPIB instrument in MAX.  I can even run the SCPI via Max and LabVIEW controls.  (The problem is that they have apparently not applied specific GPIB commands that they published).

They provided a VXI - PNP driver and very vague instructions.  I installed this driver and I have imported their .fp file in LabVIEW.  When I run the init code with the right GPIB resource passed into the function, I get the same error when I call a non-existent GPIB device - even if it takes more time to get back.

I searched for VXI tutorials on the site of NOR and there are a LOT of things to go, and I'm not even sure that I have all the necessary drivers.

Anyone know a good place to start to read up?

(And Yes, I'm dogging people instrument to help me too)

    Thank you

  • GPIB bus schedule

    Hello

I'm new to programming level of registry GPIB. I have some experience in GPIB, but my previous experience was using more higher level programming.  I try to control the GPIB bus with my test Board, which consists of a CPU + NAT9914, as well as the required transceivers.  NAT works in mode 9914.

The screenshot I took a test result, where I intended to send MTA0, MLA7, DCL, OLA commands on the GPIB bus. Based on the screenshot, you kindly can let me know if the timings are correct, DAV, NRFD and NDAC, especially compared to the other?

The diagram on the top 4 bytes sent via GPIB bus (40 h, 27 h, 14 h, 11 h). The diagram below is a zoom-in of the first byte (40 h). The vertical grid lines interval is 5 USD for the top chart, while 500 ns for the bottom.

Thanks a lot and best regards,

    Hello WH Tan,.

I checked your captures and checked the commands that you send through the bus.  The controller (the controller NAT9914?) with success all orders address and configuration of GPIB sends to the connected instruments.  Orders through are MTA0, MLA7, DCL, and OLA.

Capture zoomed showed clearly that NRFD reported that the listener was ready for the data (by the listener), DAV then reported that the data on the bus is valid (by the talker) and the COMMITTEE reported that the listener has received data (by the listener).  Because of the handshake, we can say that the listener has certainly received the data.

This configuration gives you problems?  If the instrument at primary address 0 has data to send, the instrument main address 7 must be configured to receive these data after that MTA0 and MLA7 are sent.

    I hope this helps.

  • Question of GPIB-USB-HS

Hello everyone, I have 5 machines hooked: set of 2 meters, which connect to a power supply that goes to a function generator and led to a thermostream which then my GPIB-USB-HS is used to hang my computer. I am running an executable file from a previous VI, I tested on the computer that has the original VI. I have the correct runtime downloaded, and I can open the VI. There isn't an arrow broken for the execution button, but when I run it, it immediately stops running as if the VI running, but nothing happens. No errors or messages. It's as if nothing does not communicate. So my first instinct was to control the GPIB. They are all tight, and I checked to see if maybe the instruments were not recognized by the GPIB-USB-HS, but MAX watch I have all 5 connected instruments when I 'Search tools'. On the GPIB-USB-HS, there are a light yellow/orange on the loan and nothing on the assets. The GPIB correspond all too much, and the address for the GPIB-USB-HS is set to 0.

    Thank you.

You can create the exe with active debugging and place probes to determine what is and what is not running.

Also, you don't mention if you have installed the runtime of NI-VISA.

  • MAX does not show my Instrument GPIB

    Hello.

I have an instrument which I control through GPIB interface.

The instrument is a model of arbritraty 301 Wavetek function generator.

I already downloaded and installed the drivers for this mode of the instrument.

I want to control this instrument through PXI My system having integrated controller NI PXI-8105.

The controller itself have connector GPIB whereby I connect the instrument Fgen. SO the GPIB address would be 0.

Today, Max under 'devices and interfaces' it shows GPIB0(PCI-GPIB).:manhappy:

When I am pressing the button "Scan for instrument" then it shows that the error occurred and no instrument is however I connect the Fgen and provided properly.

It gives no details about the error.

Device OR 488.2 driver is also installed in the PXI.

In the function generator is a logical address of the device selection option. who is correctly set to 2. I tried with change to 0 also, but it did not work.

Is this really the problem with the Instrument itself?

    Hi, Dennis...

Not need a photo bleow error message...

Today I received my GPIB instrument, don't know how.

Probably as a result may be the reason...

Yesterday, at the start when the instrument has not been detected, I thought and he got a solution that NEITHER 488. 2 has not been installed on this system. (In referance for this 488.2 NOR being not installed I had posted a message before saying that "could not install NOR 488.2 on PXI '-he was rolling back, I had also placed pictures of this facility.) You can see this Post)

Then I tried installed NI 488. 2 (yesterday), but failed with the same error. After 2 tries, it was installed successfully, but could not fund the reason for this... (You can help me if you find the reason for this... See the error in installation OR 488.2 PXI system)

After you install the NI-488. 2, I tried again to find my GPIB instruments. but I got the same error. It should be noted that I had not restarted my computer after installing NI-488. 2.

I think this must be the reason not to detect the instrument yesterday...

By the way, thanks for helping me in this and other issues...

    God is with me.

    Thank you again...

  • Gbspecifications FOR control using prologix usb converter

    Hello

I wonder if anyone has an expirience controlling instruments gpib with labview by using a Gbspecifications for controller usb (prologix).  Specifically, I'm looking at the controller a 8753ES agilent VNA.  This model is a little old, but I think it should always work.  So far, I've installed the cirtual com port (vcp) drivers for the device, and he now recognizes the controller prologix com4.  However, I don't know how to access the device connected to com4.  Agilent IO does not (although I'm not sure that there are drivers for it anyway).  I think I need the computer had to recognise as a hub gpio instead of a com port, but I don't know how to do this.  Should I d2xx drivers?  Using a tool on the site web of prologix, I communicate with the survey of the adapter address gpib 16 (which I have the AVI), and the survey answers.  On the side of NES, I put the address of 5, gp - ib diag on controller and a talker/listener.  Currently, the light T is on, which means it's on talk (as opposed to the r, l or s).  Any help would be appreciated.  If I could get an address of visa, it would be great.

    Thank you

    Eric

The unit works if you detect it as a COM port. There is no way it will be never detected as a controller with Agilent GPIB or OR software. There is no reason at all anyway use Agilent software. There is example code on the site of Prologix with functions series VISA. In addition, the forum search «Prologix»

  • Simultaneous control of the power supply

    Hi all

I have 9 Ametek XG 12-140 power supplies, I am control using GPIB. The GPIB cables are connected from the top of the tower to the 9 power blocks in the series. I currently turn on one after the other which takes about 30 seconds. Is it possible using GPIB to turn on at the same time or within 5 seconds? As far as I know, I can only communicate with one instrument at a time, so I don't know if this is even possible. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Knowlton

With GPIB level low and same or similar functions, you can use an address list and their program in parallel. It is one of the rare cases where you do not configure sequentially.

  • Reuse of the custom controls in a model of VI

    Hello

My question is do my Subvi more reusable modules using templating.

I am writing a message in queue manager application to control many different instruments running asynchronously.

A super nice feature of the models that I recently discovered, is that if you include a control or a Subvi as a model in your file LIVES.

If you create a new VI using this file LIVES it automatically prompt you to re - register these files, which would allow me to save a lot of time during duplication

My managers of messages queued for the different modules. (I know that the actor model eliminates this, but it is important that I get this done soon, and I won't change my project too at this point).

My question is that, with the model of control, I seem to be unable to use a file the same way TTC. That said, I can have one instance of a TTC but when I try to create a copy of it I am asked to re-record it as a .ctl file, so if I created a new VI from the model I'm unable to update all instances of the control in this way convenient.

Is there a work around for this?

    Thank you in advance!

Ah, actually, I solved my problem; just does not allow quick selection because then it will use the model to create a new ctl file.

To remove a TTC, I need select file .ctt via browser. Oops.

  • Problem to run Agilent GPIB with NI-VISA card: recurring at Agilent VISA 32 report of open conflict that all things set correctly...

    Hi developers OR,.

I have a recurring problem to correct my installation using a labview and Agilent GPIB card.

Of course, the well-known configuration tips are generally defined:

-Agilent VISA a VISA secondary (by-side mode)

-the passport for tulip is enabled in NOR-MAX

-OR-488 support active in Agilent librabry suite 16.1

I uninstalled and reinstalled any component twice, but still get the same error message when I want to talk to a Keithley 2400 EMS:

-Firstly, the agilent GPIB interface is correctly recognized expert Agilent connection and NOR-MAX

-Then the instrument of 2400 keitjley initially works correctly in Agilent connection Expert and NOR-MAX

BUT: when I try to send a command to the device (whether through the wizard or VISA using the Labview instrument driver), the tool returns an error (error "Application incomplete" punch followed immediately by a second "Invalid while in the local" error code)

At the same time, the Manager (32 open report VISA) conflict in expert Agilent connection says "NI-VISA has returned an error. "There is a conflict of interface between NI-VISA and VISA Agilent". He suggested that the conflict occurs when different interfaces receive the same number of interface in the two VISA.

Therefore, aware of the conflict that can occurs in a side-by-side installation, I tried to change the ID of Interface CLCL's Board of Directors in the Agilent connection Expert (from gpib0 to gpib9) and restart, but it did not help.

So can you help me solve this recurring problem?

Is it necessary to also change the VISA interface ID, or address of the GPIB Board Agilent GPIB in connection Expert? Wouldn't be the same address (9 for example)?

    I really do not understand.

Sorry for this new message on the configuration of this topics, but I found no useful advice in the forums.

    See you soon,.

    Yoyo87.

Finally, I got my system running after several tests, although I couldn't use NI-VISA as first VISA (allowing the tulip passport) with agilent VISA (permit for programs OR-488) at the same time.

I uninstalled it all components of NOR and the agilent and re - install in the correct order (OR first, followed by agilent): nothing has changed.

I check for updates of agilent and NOR and use several different versions of VISA at the same time: nothing has changed and I still communication errors when you try to send the order through NI-VISA Interactive control or labview (although it worked well by expert agilent of connection).

I don't really know why, but I solved my problem by installing Agilent VISA primary visa. In this way, even if I do not see the Council of Agilent in NOR-MAX, I can always send control of GPIB instruments by labview using their VISA address or aliases defined in connection expert Agilent...

I am always interested to understand why I was not able to run the two VISAs on my system with agiulent only one card PCI GPIB... so if one of you sees a clear reason for this...

Thanks in any case, even if I don't have a lot of response on this topic...
