  Yes, unisntall and disable older versions, if you think you don't need them. Forget this idea with the following OnOne. Download the installer correct of the seller even if it may cost extra. CS5 Plugins can cause all sorts of terrible things in CS6...

  I was wondering if someone could help me with the transition between CS5 and CS6 (cloud Creative). I am on a Mac with Mountain Lion.

  I would like to migrate all parameters (i.e. workspaces as appropriate), personal actions of Photoshop, plug-ins (i.e. Type DNA, FontShop [Photoshop], [Illustrator] Scriptographer and Blurb Template Creator [InDesign]) CS5 CS6 possible. What is the simpler and the gentler way to do this?

  Some settings, actions, and plug-ins may not work with CS6, I don't know. I can not find where my Photoshop actions are archived atm.

  We are trying to install CS6 on a new windows computer with windows 8.1. We bought a version update for CS5 a couple of years ago and the installation wizard asks CS5 serial number, but when we enter the code, the wizard says serial number does not match the product.   If you install CS5 there is not need to do this if your only reason is so that you can install CS6.  CS6 is a standalone product and does not update CS5.   You'll need is to first install CS6 and then activate it with CS6 serial number.  After that he will notice that you do not have a version more old qualification and then did you select CS5 as this release candidate and then provide its serial number.

  If you have a license to upgrade for CS6 you already have CS5 installed on the machine, then you should just install CS6 and activate it.  The activation process detects CS5 if it is a qualifying version and automatically enable CS6 happen.

  If you have not installed CS5 you will need the serial number CS5 when you try to activate the CS6.  After entering the serial number CS6 it will confirm or not the number of CS6 is valid and then identify (select in a list) ask version eligible (CS5 in your case), then enter the serial number eligible version.
