    Hello:

I moved a Windows 2008 R2 VM from a 5.1 ESXi host to an ESXi host 5.5 using vCenter Converter Standalone.  The c: / drive system passed largely to where I now have to extend the volume.  Is this normal/expected behavior?  Perhaps the conversion/move creates temporary files I can delete?

    Thanks much for the ideas.

This is not the expected behavior.

Size of the disk is defined during the conversion and which will not increase by its own during conversion.

Now, you need to V2V, if you want to reduce the volume.

    Hi all

Once the converter VMware-converter-en - 5.5.1 - 1682692 does not work, with a touch of friend uninstall the 5.5 version of Converter Standalone Client, look for the VMware converter version - 4.0.0 - 146302 and install this version to the other machine. No not that I had to be Converter, but the windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

After this race, the Standalone Client 4.4 Converter and everything work fine.

Now I have the P2V converted and good machine, as was the real operation!

    I thank all of you.

    Hi people,

I try to use VMware Converter Standalone 5.5 for use with VMware Player and am not able to select the Type of Destination of my choice (I like to choose "VMware workstation" or another VMware virtual machine in the drop-down menu "Select the destination type").  Please see the image below where the combo box is not there at all.  Thanks for your help.  Hai

    converter-issue-image.png

This isn't a bug, it is a limitation of the converter. It is stated in the documentation. Converter considers that any machine under tension like physics. It cannot convert powered on Linux machines to hosted (i.e. Workstation/Fusion) destinations.

A solution would be to convert it to ESX and then convert the (from) power off the VM power to the workstation.

  • Converter standalone problem with Acronis True Image Home 2013

I installed vmware vcenter converter standalone client/server Version 5.1.0 build-1087880 on my pc which has also installed VMware player.  I have true image home installed 2013 as well and have a file tib I want to use it as a virtual image.  I select local computer on the converter, select the source type 'Backup image or third-party virtual machine' and Virtual Machine file: and navigate to the local file that is a .tib.  If I then select "view source...". "it gives me the error"the source settings are incorrect. »

I noticed that the documentation says that the converter works with acronis true image 10 and 11.  Is this the reason why I get the error message or is this error caused by something else?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, unfortunately VMware Converter does not support the current versions of Acronis image.

  • VMWare converter standalone fails at 1%.

    Hello

I have a problem of conversion of some machines on the subnet to another. Since then, I work at the University, here are fairly complex network infrastructure. Whenever I need an open port, I have to record a call and to wait a few days so that it can be resolved.

    I have:

5.1 ESXi on the subnet has

PC which is on the subnet and is able to connect to the subnet B via port 80, 445, 9089.

Some servers that will be migrated at the subnet B.

Now when I try to set a task with VMware converter standalone installed on PC to clone a physical host (win 2 k 3) on subnet B, I get status failed with the error message: an error occurred during conversion: 'unknown exception '.

I found on this forum similar problem (P2V conversion fails at 1%, 'an error occurred when converting' unknown exception' ') and double-checked my logs.

2013-08 - 01 T 11: 11:06.719 + 02:00 [warning 02020 'Default'] [, 0] NfcNewAuthdConnectionEx [NFC ERROR]: unable to connect to peer. Error: Unable to connect to server 1.2.3.4:902 (this is the IP of ESXi server)

the problem is unclear to me. Source machine tries to connect directly to ESXi server and storage. But for me to record a call "opening port" for each server that I want to convert is a little awkward to say and I was wondering is - it possible somehow to migration through PC in a subnet that has access to powered on the source machine and the ESXi server. And these machines would not need to directly contact the ESXi Server?

    Thanks for your replies.

    S.

    Hello

You can convert to the format of the workstation and then convert the resulting ESX VM again. If you have a machine with enough storage in the subnet B, convert, and then physically move the machine or the storage of subnet A and convert again. So, you can bypass the firewall completely.

  • VMware vcenter converter standalone physical conversion to virtual stuck to the completion of 81% for several days

Hello everyone I have an interesting question, I'm physical conversion to virtual pointing to the new virtual directly on the server esx conversion would set schedule for a day. But now, it's just stuck at 81% and not go further! I don't get any errors of ideas? questions are there a basis that I can look to see what is happening? Is there a way I can fix it without start over again. There are enough resources on the destination esx I had to change the hard drive space for destination and ram, but done nothing radical imprint more small which I think should do better.

It's an interesting case, you have here. I guess that conversion is complete, but somehow you do not see or a deadlock occurred.

Anyway you will probably be able to export logs to the customer. Go to the directory of newspapers to %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\logs (for WP/W3K) or vCenter Converter Standalone\logs %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\VMware\VMware (for Vista +) and find the log of the last worker (vmware-converter-worker - .log #). The status of the conversion is currently connected. Take a look, or that she has finished, is still running, is stuck.

If he has you can try restarting the client and/or server converter service. Do not stop the worker service unless you are sure that there is no conversion running!

  • VMware Converter Standalone 5.0 U1 - cannot convert W2k3

    Hello

I tried convert my physical server Windows 2003 R2 (with Service Pack 2) in VMware (to ESXi host) environment, but 98% is DOWN.

VMware Converter Standalone version is: 5.0 U1

The version of VMware ESXi Hypervior is: 5.0 U1.

VMware Converter Standalone U1 5.0 is installed on this server (that I want to convert).

I have attached one connects VMware Converter Standalone, a screen displaying the boot.ini file and the error.

Could someone help me with this problem?

    Greetings,

    Damiano

Observer the worker saves any error "could not find". I looked through you and found this:

    2012 12-21 T 13: 33:17.620 + 01:00 [02980 error "task-5'"] did not symmpi.sys in \\.\vstor2-mntapi10-shared-EC48ED48000010000000000016000000\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386\driver.cab
    2012 12-21 T 13: 33:17.635 + 01:00 [02980 error "task-5'"] could not find symmpi.sys in the specified CAB files
    2012 12-21 T 13: 33:17.635 + 01:00 [02980 error "task-5' '] Reconfiguration failed with: converter.fault.FileNotFound
    2012 12-21 T 13: 33:17.635 + 01:00 [02980 info "task-5' '] restoration of the transaction of reconfiguration...

Go to System32\Drivers on the source server and determine whether symmpi.sys is in this folder. Otherwise, copy from a known working 2003 VM and copy also in drivers.cab in Windows\Driver Cache\i386\driver.cab

Run the conversion again and choose the no power over the new VM and not turn off the source, in this way, you can check if the process is running. If so, great! If this isn't the case, observe the worker logs yet, find "could not find" or "reconfiguration failed with" to determine the cause of the failure.

I have a lot of experience with this exact problem and it is almost always something to do with symmpi.sys

    Welcome to the community,

It is most likely a problem with the virtual drive created for the converted virtual machine controller. Unless you specify the correct controller ("LSI Logic SAS' for Windows 7) type in the Converter Wizard, you can end up with an IDE controller.

  • vCenter Converter Standalone to vSphere Hypervisor

    Here's the situation.

I would like to P2V convert an existing Windows 2000 Server and put the new virtual server in vSphere Hypervisor 5.1.

Is this possible with the free vCenter Converter Standalone?  What version of the converter is what I use for P2V Server 2000 machine and I then have to use an older version of ESXI instead of vSphere Hypervisor 5.1?

    Any thoughts?

    Thank you

The VMware converter, you can download it here... (https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/evalcenter?p=converter) Click on the license and download tab and log in to your my account of VMware. You should see the latest version and all the last one available for download.

ESXi 4.0, you can download it here... (https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/evalcenter?p=free-esxi&lp=default). Once again, same procedure, click on the license and download tab and log in to your my account of VMware. You should see 4.1 and below (4, 4 Update 1... and so on) available for download.

    Good luck

  • Save an ESXi 4.0 virtual using the VCenter Converter Standalone

I'm having a 'moment' here because it's been a while since I've done it.

I have a Windows Server 2008 virtual machine running on ESXI 4.1. I want to make a one-time backup of the virtual. It's a Terminal Server I don't need of daily backups, etc.

I have it in mind that I can do this with the VCenter Converter Standalone. I downloaded and installed version 5 of this.

When I tried to communicate with the virtual virtual "Machine VMWare Infrastructure" using the converter drop-down I get this:

Unable to reach the specified host 192.168.254.154. The host may not be available... or management on this host services do not react.

The IP address is correct. Am I missing something here? Management services? I put the VM converter on this virtual server Client?

The goal is to get the hard local machine in order to restore it in case of failure.

    Thank you very much.

    Mike Gallery

you will need to have comments turned off for export as OVF, but you don't need to use the converter.

Also, in the future, if you use the converter and a source of 'VMware Infrastructure virtual machine', the virtual machine must thus put off.

.. .and to return the FVO in your inventory... File - deploy OVF

  • Poor transfer rate using Converter standalone 5.0 compared to the 4.3

I recently started using the Converter new version 5.0.0.  I did successfully more than 30 years of P2V Windows 2003 systems using version 4.3.  Immediately, I noticed two problems:

    (1) the average transfer rate went from about 100 MB/s to between 0.8 and 2 MB/s.

    (2) the process has systematically failed after completion of the c: cloning and start on the D: drive.

I tried this on 5 different physical servers, ranging from 5 different servers host VMware ESXi 4.1 and the result was always the same.  I assumed it was a network problem or firewall and sent on a 'wild goose chase' network team for 2 days.  After that they were convinced that the physical machine being P2V was simply not sent sufficient packages, I went back and re-installed version 4.3 and restarted the P2V transfer.  This time, I received a transfer rate average of 100 Mbps (50 x faster) and the whole process completed successfully.

Has anyone else seen a similar problem?  No possible explanation?

The file you have to change is converter - Worker.Xml. It should be located under folder "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone". You should find the useSsl under the nfc subkey value in Config key. If not present, you can add this value as follows:

    ...

    fake

    ...

    ...

Save the configuration file and restart the worker VMware vCenter Converter Standalone service.
  • VM Converter Standalone can convert a vm running on a standalone ESX 2.5.5 server directly to a stand-alone server ESX 4.1?

VM Converter Standalone 4.3 v can convert a vm running on a standalone ESX 2.5.5 server directly to a stand-alone server ESX 4.1? It appears that it can in the guide. Is this correct?

VM Converter Standalone cannot convert a power off vm on an ESX 2.5.5 standalone server directly to the ESX Server 4.1 by guide unless the 2.5.5 ESX Server is managed by vCenter 2.5. Is this correct?

Please confirm. There is some contention about this topic with their peers.

    All points will be awarded.

    Thank you.

According to the documentation you can hot covert one ESX 2.5.X, if you manage the ESX with Virtual Center 2.5 or higher server.

  • Converter Standalone Admin$ error

I'm under VMware vCenter Converter Standalone (Version 4.3.0 build-292238) to my desktop (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit).

I am trying to convert my laptop (XP Home SP 3) to a virtual machine.

When I start the wizard to convert, it asks me the IP of the machine and the use/pass.  As soon as I did this, it opens a dialog box alert me that software must be installed on the remote computer and asking me how I want to deal with uninstalling the app when it made the conversion.  I leave the default settings (auto uninstall when finished) and the next message I get is the following:

"The share specified network '192.168.1.102\ADMIN$' does not exist."

I checked that I use the good IP and username trying to connect from the Explorer.  When I check the actions on the laptop (administrative tools > computer management), I see that the ADMIN$ is missing.  All I see is a user account and share IPC$.  However, I can't find a way to create the share ADMIN$.  I tried sharing on my C drive and qualifying ADMIN$, but it gives me a message that ADMIN$ is reserved.

Has anyone ever encountered this message?  I'm looking for even in the right direction to solve / can I change when the converter wants to watch?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can install converter 4.3 on the XP itself - so it should be no problem
