Save an ESXi 4.0 virtual using the VCenter Converter Standalone

I'm having a 'moment' here because it's been a while since I've done it.

I have a Windows Server 2008 virtual machine running on ESXI 4.1. I want to make a one-time backup of the virtual. It's a Terminal Server I don't need of daily backups, etc.

I have it in mind that I can do this with the VCenter Converter Standalone. I downloaded and installed version 5 of this.

When I tried to communicate with the virtual virtual "Machine VMWare Infrastructure" using the converter drop-down I get this:

Unable to reach the specified host 192.168.254.154. The host may not be available... or management on this host services do not react.

The IP address is correct. Am I missing something here? Management services? I put the VM converter on this virtual server Client?

The goal is to get the hard local machine in order to restore it in case of failure.

Thank you very much.

Mike Gallery

you will need to have comments turned off for export as OVF, but you don't need to use the converter.

Also, in the future, if you use the converter and a source of 'VMware Infrastructure virtual machine', the virtual machine must thus put off.

.. .and to return the FVO in your inventory... File - deploy OVF

  • Windows 2008 R2 VM disk system increased substantially after moving from VM to ESXi host 5.1 to 5.5 ESXi host using vCenter Converter Standalone

    Hello:

I moved a Windows 2008 R2 VM from a 5.1 ESXi host to an ESXi host 5.5 using vCenter Converter Standalone.  The c: / drive system passed largely to where I now have to extend the volume.  Is this normal/expected behavior?  Perhaps the conversion/move creates temporary files I can delete?

    Thanks much for the ideas.

This is not the expected behavior.

Size of the disk is defined during the conversion and which will not increase by its own during conversion.

Now, you need to V2V, if you want to reduce the volume.

  • Error of the IDE controller after using vCenter Converter Standalone

I usually get the following two messages when you click on the "Edit Settings... "the virtual machine created by using the operation"convert the Machine ":

"An IDE controller is found but the virtual machine does not support this option."

After clicking on the 'OK' button, I get this:

"A flat backup option is not found."

After clicking OK, the open Virtual Machine properties and hard disk 1 is summarized as 'not supported '.

This occurred during the conversion of a source type of powered on the machine to a virtual machine of VMware Infrastructure, but also a source of VMware Infrustructure to another virtual machine of VMware Infrustructure.

It can be the cause and the VM may be edited to prevent this. Happen using a Windows 2003 server that is powered on the source machine and a XP Pro Sp3 virtual machine running on ESX. XP has been installed directly as a virtual machine using an ISO file. The converted XP machine powers up to a GUI. I tried other machines, but the conversion operation fails at the beginning, probably because it was "multiboot" machines.

    Thank you

  • VMware vcenter converter standalone physical conversion to virtual stuck to the completion of 81% for several days

Hello everyone I have an interesting question, I'm physical conversion to virtual pointing to the new virtual directly on the server esx conversion would set schedule for a day. But now, it's just stuck at 81% and not go further! I don't get any errors of ideas? questions are there a basis that I can look to see what is happening? Is there a way I can fix it without start over again. There are enough resources on the destination esx I had to change the hard drive space for destination and ram, but done nothing radical imprint more small which I think should do better.

It's an interesting case, you have here. I guess that conversion is complete, but somehow you do not see or a deadlock occurred.

Anyway you will probably be able to export logs to the customer. Go to the directory of newspapers to %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\logs (for WP/W3K) or vCenter Converter Standalone\logs %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\VMware\VMware (for Vista +) and find the log of the last worker (vmware-converter-worker - .log #). The status of the conversion is currently connected. Take a look, or that she has finished, is still running, is stuck.

If he has you can try restarting the client and/or server converter service. Do not stop the worker service unless you are sure that there is no conversion running!

  • A computer record virtual using the VI Toolkit gets "a general error has occurred: invalid error" error.

    Hello

I am a relative to the VI Toolkit novice so apologies if I ask you something ridiculous.

I am trying to save a virtual machine using the VI Toolkit, but get the error "a general error has occurred: failure of ' (seen in the VI Client) when the virtual machine must be connected to the host. I use Registervm_task to perform this task.

    Here is the code:

    -

    to connect-VIServer MyVIServer

    http://Reflection.Assembly: LoadWithPartialName ("vmware.vim")

    $clus_name = "MY_CLUSTER".

    $folder_name = "DR".

    $esxcsv = import-csv «.\esx-hosts.csv.

    $vmcsv = import-csv «.\vm-list.csv.

    $dr_folder = get-view-file-filter viewtype @{"name" = $folder_name}

    $clus = get-view - viewtype ClusterComputeResource-filter @{"name" = $clus_name}

    foreach ($vm to $vmcsv)

    {

    + $dr_folder. RegisterVM_task($vm.) PATH, $vm. VM, $false, $clus. ResourcePool, $null) +.

    }

If I look in the 'tasks and events' VI, I see the following events:

'Machine virtual myvm is connected' and then a few seconds later "Creating myserver on the host myhost.myfqdn.net in my data center"

I can join the virtual machine manually via the VI Client and confirmed the account that I'm using has permissions.

Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

    Kind regards

  • Save a copy of a file using the "Save as" funtion in the same directory that the oringinal is in?

Hi everyone... Please forgive me if this question seems so totally noobish, but I have been googlging forever and can't seem to find an obvious answer to a simple question...

I have hundreds of folders with files in them .docx
I opened with OO Writer to edit and save as a word 97-2003 docs
    Here's my question:
When I save as I have to scroll all the way up to "Institutional links" and choose Directory to save these files whenever I have change either.

    Examples:

    documents/fruits/A/appples.docx

    documents/fruits/B/bananas.docx

If I open apples.docx and save it as apples. DOC it will save in documents/fruit/A /.

but when I open bananas.docx and save it to bananas.doc he will also try to save documents/fruit/A/when all I want to do is make it save right in documents/fruit/B / (where the original docx is already present).

I would like to know if its possible if he can save everything related to the same directory as the original document exists in...
When I'm on a good old fashioned windows XP computer I can save my documents without having to navigate every time.

Crank, about 150 of these files per day, so I don't have to navigate back to the same folder I'm trying is really essential to me...

Thank you very much for all the tips...

I think that it is a function of OO rather than Windows.

At least, when I tried to reproduce your example using Word 2010 on Windows 7, the function "save under" worked as you can imagine... it is lacking to savings in the directory where the file open.

    I would ask here--> https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewforum.php?f=7&sid=4d72f7fa64e53651d23eb3f341640f48

  • Cancellation of the virtual using the ExternalWFStubs.MachineDisposing computer

Using the workflow ExternalWFStubs.MachineDisposing I see sporadic failures put at the disposal of the virtual machine into thinking that the virtual computer is not available to collect the properties of her during the commissioning phase.   I take custom properties to understand what the VCO workflow will remove etc.  Any ideas on this one?  The machine has, but the VCO workflow isn't what it needs to succeed.  The VCAC get accessories fails with null or the Vcenter workflow that gets the IP Address of the virtual machine to address.  Continuing its investigation of it.  1/2 of the decommissioned VM are successful.

  • ESXi hosts are disconnected from the vCenter (5.5)

    Hi all

We have a little problem with our vCenter.

We have two hosts that are connected to the vCenter, unfortunately, they are listed as disconnected.

It seems that the problem are the SSL certificates on ESXi hosts that are no longer valid.

If I replace the old certificates with new ones, that I have to restart the ESXi host, am I right?

    If so, that's the problem.

We do not use any what automatic vMotion and as long as the hosts are not connected to the vCenter I can't manually, move right?

Is it possible to connect hosts to vCenter without SSL?

Sorry for my bad English, I'm not a native speaker.

    See you soon,.

    Johannes

You need to replace the ESXi host SSL certificates.

See the Docs for the replacement of ESXi Cert below.

    ttp://www.BlueBox-Web.com/2013/04/18/replace-ESXi-certificate/

    Documentation Centre of vSphere 5.5

I had regenerate the ESXi 5.5 SSL certificates, which I did without any stop to virtual machines.

Certificate replacement process can change based on the esxi version.

According to the Doc, vSphere 6.0 Documentation Centre ESXi6 host must be rebooted to replace certificates.

Anyway, in current state disconnected, you can try to regenerate the self signed SSL certs, restart management agents and try to reconnect host in vCenter.

    Thank you

  • Can't access file system host (MAC) shared in VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client when wanting to create a VMware image (Windows 7 in Parallels virtual machine running on a MAC) for the option of machine Powered On.

File HOST (Mac) system is currently shared in the Parallels virtual machine and is accessible through Windows Explorer and works correctly in the Virtual Machine environment, however, after installing vCenter Converter application on the Windows virtual machine these shared folders are not accessible from the conversion tool in the selection of the target destination of the file VMware (s). I can't select an existing folder on drive "C:" to write the image so that there is not enough space available for the VMware image and it must be written in a different file system, while the image is being created.

Anyone know a way around it to show the target to write the image on the host (MAC OS) file system or is it a bug?

Thanks for the reply.  It seems that the maps are not displayed if they were created as actions by the hosts.  When I created a mapping directly from Windows, then this mapping appeared and the conversion worked fine.
