  I made the correction manually through the registry editor.

  Just drilling down for

  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

  Find the subkey for the ide primary chanel (in my case it is 0003)

  and delete the MasterIdDataChecksum entry.

  Reboot will restore this line correctly and all is well.

  Reset in PIO Device Manager to UDMA does not correct the above and the next boot back to PIO.

  What is the full error message?

  Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

  Check if all files have been created on the hard drive (or anywhere where you are trying to save).

  Check the VSS service in the services window. Use the following steps to check:

  a. click Start and type services.msc in the search box

  b. search for the shadow copy volume service

  Make sure that the Startup type is Automatic.  Steps to set the auto services

  c. search for the service

  d. right-click on the service

  e. If the service is stopped and then Start the service

  f. Select Properties

  g and in the Startup type , select Automatic

  No idea of what you want to back up - it of just data, or is it a kind of operating system?

  If there is an operating system, you will need to either clone it o & o DiskImage software proposed doing the work, but iirc that freeone not sector by sector, not necessary and slow.

  I use AOMEI Partition Wizard disk/partition copy - copy sector smart, very fast: www.disk-partition.com/.../disk-copy.html

  If there is an operating system - it will start upwards after copy aomei.

  I don't know if it's on the aomei free version of backup and restore - it might be.

  I didn't know that encarta World Atlas 2001 listed in the Windows Vista Compatibility Center. So it probally is not compatible with Windows Vista.
  You might see if the compatibility mode to operate.

  If the program is not compatible, then you try to install and run the program in compatibility mode.
  Use the following steps:

  1. Open the program compatibility Wizard by clicking the start, clicking Control Panel, clicking programs, and then clickingUse an older program with this version of Windows.

  2. Follow the instructions in the wizard.

  If you are unable to install a program, insert the installation for the program and, using the wizard disk, navigate to the program setup file, usually called Setup.exe, Install.exe, or something similar. The wizard is not designed to work on programs that have an .msi file name extension.

  To change compatibility settings manually for a program, right-click the icon of the program, clickProperties and then click the Compatibility tab.

  Lightroom will result in no records per day, except when you import photos. If I could make a suggestion, leave your files in the same "mess" they are in now and use the keywords and other metadata to allow you to organize and search.

  I need to apologize.  I went to the Samsung website, only to find that they no longer have more HDD 1 TB.  Therefore, I had to find another brand that has been at a reasonable price.  Normally, I buy WD HDD and Samsung SSD.  This is a Western Digital HARD drive , which should be good.  Also, here's the installation guide which includes a FREE copy of the Software from Acronis True Image WD Addition.  I is one of the better programs cloning.  My combined search of better performance and reliability with the right price.  The one in the link, this is what I found.

  The procedure I described in my last post should work with Acronis.
