How to create a bulleted or numbered list? By Dale Gillard, November 15, 2005

I was wondering if, with the change of the structure - if these tags are still valid

Thank you for the answers

The tools in the toolbar will do for me...

Keep in mind that the Rich Text Editor is not a product of Jive, but rather an integration of 3rd party widget > https://www. TinyMCE.com /

I found this copy and paste from ANY external source to TinyMCE requires some ' mickeying with ' to do things...

  • a GoogleTranslation copy and paste are not < p > s (paragraphs) but rather < br > s (line breaks) no matter what you did with your typing or it looks like in the windows of the translation
  • TextEdit will not wear colours or live URLs
  • Notepad of Windows and TextEdit 'plaintext' was usually a way of stripping away invisible things < p > not so hot results with NotePad +, but could be worse

I can send the project if necessary because it contains nothing of any value.

There will always be a difference between the way in which the display lists in the browser and in the press, because different browsers may very well have differences.

When you create a PDF file, behind the scenes a Word document is created, then PDF would be and ransacked. Word lists will be different.

The options are to accept the difference, as long as both are acceptable or generate term first, that twist and then PDF.

It has more on this subject in my pages of printed documents. RH8 also lets you specify a CSS different when the production of printed materials and use may allow you to play with the definitions to get what you want.

    Hello

I work with ID CS5 on Windows XP pro

Under Type > bulleted and numbered list > set list, I find hundreds of 'any word list' that I did not creat

I guess it has been imported with the word I drop workd

Is it possible to prevent it.

I have about 200 lists in each of my 10 docs, is there a reasonable way to delete these lists?

When you import a word file, I import I use followiing preferences:

    What I do is:

    1. I create own style in InDesign, I put them also in the specific folder

    2. I import the Word file with styles in InDesign

    3. now, I delete Word styles and replace them with my styles ID.

It gives me more control over the imported styles as styles of marking or eqally using named styles. Both would do it, but I've experienced this after each export that is added a new style of Word, it is almost impossible to get the automatic style markup.

  • Balls in numbered lists are incorrect

    Hello

We recently upgraded to RH5 to RH7 and have noticed that many of our subjects have problems when it comes to use bullets in numbered lists. Our project Robo is a number if years and well over 2 k files it contains. We find this problem in the old and new subjects.

We use a style sheet to our numbers and our two levels of bullets, but the bullets are not graphics. Level 1 balls are filled circles and level 2 balls are solid squares. When we consider our subjects in the WYSIWYG, everything seems fine. When you find the topic by using the "Show selected item" button or after compilation, we find that some, but not all, our subjects have this problem.

A bulleted list is used after the text, everything is going very well. Its only when the bullets are used in a list numbered (for our procedures) that happens. What we see is that our bullets changed numbers. For example, we have step 1 (1), step 2 (2) and the three balls that appear in the form (3, 4, 5) even if they should be full circles, and then our step 3 appears as it should (3).

Again, this happens to old and new topics, but not all of the subjects. In order to "solve" the problem, it must remove the text style to chips and use the button 'Create a bulleted list' Robo and adjust the alignment and spacing of the paragraphs to match what has our stylesheet.

Any help would be appreciated. The code of a theme that is displayed incorrectly is attached. If you want a sample of a topic that is displayed properly, please let me know.

    Thank you!
    Melissa

After a few tries to change the stylesheet, here is what ended up working:

I made a new project so I could edit the CSS without drastic results. I removed all the generated code kadov and saved the .css file. Then I entered Robo and used the built in editor CSS to remove the Bullets1, the Bullets2 and numbers styles and then added back in.

Not only does my test subjects not display correctly, he put the right code in the .css file (for my lists, styles were entered as LI and not P). The original stylesheet Robo 5 had no entires for UL or OL. Using the editor in Robo to remove and add items from my list to put it in the sheet.

    Everything is superb.

Thank you both, Leon and Peter.

  • Initials of numbered list

    Hello

I would get to the initials of numbered list (a lot in front of the text), but it seems that the initials do not work for lists numbered off the beaten path.

I saw this (bottom of page) where it is said to convert numbers into text Live but I have no idea how to do to get there (and I've spent some time looking):

  • Why numbered lists will not continue between the documents in a book?

    Dear community InDesign,

I am nearing completion of a volume of 1100 page, organized in book form in ID CS6 (OS X) composed of about 15 different documents. According to the excellent orientation in those discussions, I used a paragraph style to generate via the numbered lists figure captions.

For some reason, numbered lists restart between sequential in the book chapters, while I need them to continue between the blocks specified documents. Please note that I already have:

    1. Define continues numbered lists from previous documents
    2. Go to Type > > bulleted and numbered lists > > define lists > > edit list to verify that 'continue Document numbers in previous book' is checked
    3. Synchronize all documents in the book and updated the numbering via the book panel
    4. Read a lot of discussion on this site to try to locate this problem without success (but if you have a lead, I'm more excited to see)

Any suggestions would be welcome; I put things up through the proverbial book, and it seems that simply check the box "Numbers continue" should be enough, but it isn't.

Thanks a lot for your help.

    S.

There is a Update Page and Section numbers - and there is also an "update chapter and paragraph numbers.

Thing is to check that the numbering is set to follow the previous book - and then refresh the chapter and the numbering of the paragraphs.

    Which solves the problem?

  • How to create a numbered list continues?

    Hello

I would like to know how to create a continuous numbered list. I mean, a list where each issue begins on the same line as the previous one, instead of from the next line.

    Thanks in advance!

    Paula

Create a paragraph style that increases the number in the list section and bullets.

    Define a list for it.

Set a different styles of paragraph based on the other model to start with 1 and following the precedent.

Select all the paragraphs, right-click on the style with number 1 and apply cela and style according to.

Or what you want on a single line: create a paragraph style with the numbers of the car, nothing else. Create a text frame entry '. "and copy this image to the Clipboard and paste it everywhere, you want to find the number. Optimize the size of this small frame. Reference grid could help align them.

  • Numbered lists nested in bulleted lists

    I had to create this:

    Screen Shot 2014-08-19 at 4.04.07 PM.png

First level with checkboxes items are set up as bulleted list with a square shape of police Wingding for the chip.

Second level (a., b., c., etc.) include a list numbered, configured as level 2. (Both use the default list and paragraph styles)

No matter after checking the ' numbers restart at this level after ' for the second level, the letters second level will not re-start. (The lettering would begin with 'c' to "Organize materials" where I wanted to restart with 'a' as in the photo)

It seems that InDesign will not recognize a list bulleted as part of a pattern...

To resolve this problem, I changed the first list to a numbered list level. I assigned just a typical style of numbering (1, 2, 3, etc.), but he gave a character style that is white while the figures can be seen. Then, I had to draw the boxes with the shape tool and align the text.

Is there a better way I could have done this?

    You could do that

Make the box line with a heartbeat of a numbered list.

    https://DL.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17210757/numberedlist%20with%20squares.IDML

The line with the checkbox is a numbered - list but I defined the style of Wingdings character and just put o ^ t

    o the square in wingdings

    Start at 0

NumberList following the value 'follow previous issue '.

  • Problem with creating numbered lists the paragraph style...

I have a numbered list, using "bullets and numbers" paragraph style But I don't know how to get the numbering to work properly.

If I set the "mode" to "continue from previous" mode, whenever I use this paragraph style continuous numbering since the last issue of the previous list using this style.

If I put the 'mode' for ' start in ' a number, say '1', then all numbers in the list are this number.

I want that each list is independent of the final list. The only thing I can understand is to create a new paragraph for each list style, but which does not seem a good way to go.

I have been exploring for some time but have not been able to understand this.

Place the cursor inside your paragraph of the list where you want than to restart numbering.

    Choose from the menu:

Type > bulleted & numbered lists > restart page numbering.

  • How to create a numbered list paragraph style?

You know what you would think it would be simple to make a numbered list paragraph style.  I created a new paragraph. style is then in the bullets and numbers on the style. Here, I chose dial. When I applied it in 11 paragraphs each begins with 1.

If I go to the toolbar at the top and click numbered list market then it works as expected. My style of "Numbered list", and then has a +, 'Redefining the Style' is grey so I can redefine to try to fix it.

    What I am doing wrong?

BTW, I also want to use a style of tank inside it for the first line, which is the main point of the ball being made (small caps/bold) < paragraph return > then, normal text for the rest of this bullet

    Thank you

You are also asked to do the first line "BOLD". You indicate that it is its own paragraph, so you'll want a paragraph style that includes character attributes and the attributes of type numbered list while you're there. You use character styles only if there is more than one style in the paragraph which is not the case here. And then create a paragraph style second which is indented and non-bold for text "complementary." If you skillfully use the tags 'next paragraph style', you can have styles replacing automatically as you type, then you can apply styles to an entire list with a single command using the context menu command "style Apply, then next style." So, in short, I would use three paragraph styles:

1 FirstNumberedList style (resets the paragraph style counter next is number 1, "BOLD", "Description")

Style of description (withdrawal, non-fat, is paragraph style following "NumberedList").

2 NumberedList style (continue the numbering, "BOLD", is style of following "Description" paragraph)

    Style (even before) description

3 NumberedList style (the same as before)

    Style description... etc.

To apply all the styles on a typical previously part of the text in one: select the entire list, and then Ctrl-click on the 'FirstNumberedList' style in the palette paragraph styles, and then choose "Apply"FirstNumberedList"then next Style." The first paragraph will be in the FirstNumberedList format, and all of the following in your choice will have a format based on the "next paragraph style" of the previous paragraph.

  • Title chapter works on numbered list, but does not redial in Table of contents

I'm doing a long document and put each chapter in a separate file.

I use the chapter number variable in the title of the chapter and bullet styles is used in the heading and numbered lists set to ^ h ^ #^ t. It works very well in all the chapters.

    For example:

    Chapter 1

1.0 header of a zero with the numbered list style

    Copy copy copy

1.1 header a numbered list style

    Copy copy copy

1.2 header a numbered list style

    and so on

    Chapter 2

    2.0 header with zero style

    Copy copy copy

2.1 header a numbered list style

    Copy copy copy

2.2 header a numbered list style

    and so on

BUT when I create the table of contents and want the header of those who are listed, they appear like this

    1.0 header of... 1

    1.1 header... 5

    1.2 header of... 7

1.3 header of... 9 (this should be the 2.0 header)

1.4 header of... 12 (it should be 2.1 header)

1.5 header of... 13 (this should be the heading 2.2)

How to make the table of contents list the correct numbering, using the chapter title variable that is used in each file in the book?

    Thank you

    Maryann

Okay, I think that I have now.

    1. Open the table of contents
    2. Layout > Table of contents
    3. Changing the shape of paragraphs numbered to include the full paragraph, OK
    4. If it does not, you will have duplicate numbers, but the new set is correct.
    5. If so, window > Styles
    6. Edit the table of contents and change the Type of list to none.
    7. Update the table of contents once more

Looking forward to hear words that's it.

  • Hide the number in a numbered list (or to put on its own line)

I am writing a document with headers that are numbered and come from the four levels of depth. There are six cases of the title of level 1. I would like to format it as a number with two digits (e.g. 01), then a horizontal rule, then the header text.

I imagine that there are two options:

    1. Insert a new line somehow between the number and the heading text, and then apply a rule and shift so it lies between the number and the text. The problems I meet here are that I can't seem to add a new line between the number and the text and that when I change the format of the number 01, 02, etc, it also changes for level 2 headers (which I don't).
    2. Hide the number on the list, and then add the number as text and the appropriate format. The problem I have here, is that when I change the paragraph style (bullets and numbers-> Style of numbering-> number of virgins, it messes up my level two lists later (all first everyone start correctly with 1 (1.1, 1.2, etc.), but those in sections 2-6, all start with 0 and do not reset properly (which should be 2.1 is 0.6 after the end of article 1 to 1.5).))

In the end, I want to see something like:

I came with two possible approaches.

First is to create the paragraph style title with a rule above and set the vertical offset to move under the first line and set the column width and add dashes left and right to refine the rule. You need to add the line breeze then manually or using find/replace to force the text to the line under the number.

Better, in my view, is to set up the position that the two paragraphs, the first vacuum, but established the list of numbers with the following style set to a paragraph style that you use for the title of chaperones itself and which in turn the value style following the level 2 header. Together as the two first styles aligned Center and do something similar to above the rule, but I would use the following rule in this case.

For a numbers level, you want to add the 0 in front of the marker number indicates rather than as part of the style number (this will only work if you have topics 9 or less) but the removal of level 2 and low styles, and for level 1, you must also remove any punctuation or white space after the number so the rating 0 ^ # only.

  • Adding to numbers in the numbered list parenthesis

I'm changing the numbering for my numbered list style. I would add an opening and a closing parenthesis around the number, or (2). I went to bullets and numbering/Numbering Style/number and then used this code ^ #) ^ t to create a closing parenthesis. This works. I then inserted the parenthesis before the # but it doesn't work.

    Should what code I use?

I tried to do it with this code:

    (^#)^t

    No problem.
