  My guard time capsule saying "Backup failed" for a few days and I cannot access the old backup files either (when I enter my time machine it shows 'today', which is kind of scary, although I know that my old files is still there). I tried many ways to trouble shoot this problem, but none of this has worked. In my opinion, it's more a network problem and I made sure I connect Wi - Fi even my time capsule created.

  So far I have tried:

  -Delete the files from my internet (com.apple.airport.preferences.plist; preferences.plist and NetworkInterfaces.plist, etc.) and restart my mac

  -Remove TimeMachine.plist and restart my mac

  -Hard reset of my time capsule. Went through all configurations with success but then still backup missed (I hear the running time capsule when it is by train).

  I share this time capsule with my wife and she has no problem with that.

  I can only think of a possible alternation I did which could cause this problem.

  Because of unstable WiFi problem, I had deleted

  com Apple.Airport.Preferences.plist

  com.Apple.Network.identification.plist

  NetworkInterfaces.plist

  Preferences.plist

  or other files and reboot my mac * before * I had this problem with time capsule.

  However, this is not the first time I do it, and it wasn't a problem before...

  This could be the reason? If so, how to restore the network settings?

  What model is the TC?

  Try to force the connection to 2.4 ghz using different names for the various bands... or even better to use ethernet.

  (You may need to buy love at first sight for adapter Ethernet... is an investment worth considering how unreliable wireless).

  Also give me some screenshots of the TC installing airport utility.

  For these past years, I used 2 Time Machine backups to keep all safe. I have 1 backup x who lives at home and is 3 times the size of my disk. I also have a second drive of laptop that I travel with, which is partitioned to give a little time machine backup, more than 1.5 TB of "overflow storage (for movies, video files, etc).

  Recently however, I realized that my "storage of listening" actually contains a large amount of data I wouldn't lose (especially the photos of my children because they were born), so now I want to save this drive as well.

  If my ideal situation is to have a huge drive I leave at home. This contains backups of the computer AND 'excess of storage' backup. It's pretty simple to implement.

  But can someone tell me if my trip backup, will try also to the other partition of the backup drive? And if so, is there anyway to give different time machine backups different exclusions.

  Hope that makes sense and hope that someone can help me.

  You will need to manually change the exclusions when you going on a trip. There isn't a way to change automatically.

  Delete older backups and free up space on the D drive.

  To remove old backup files, under the backup of data files, click View backups.

  You can then select the backups of files that you want to delete, which will free up disk space. Remove an entry in the list will not affect the other backups. If you think that you don't need one version of your files from a certain backup period, you can delete that backup. We recommend that you always keep the most recent backup.

  I own a Compaq Presario CQ56 109WM Notebook PC that I recently ran System Recovery to restore it to the "State of Out-Of-Box", due to a virus or accident or something that wouldn't allow the computer to start Windows. Beforehand, I backed up my personal files, photos, music, preferences, etc. on a set of 5 DVD + R discs. Now, the computer seems to work very well, to my knowledge, but I have no idea how to do for use these drives. When I finally managed to read in my disc drive, I found an .exe file on the first disk for the Recovery Manager, which of course, I opened, and he was supposed to create a folder on my desktop and open all my stuff. However, while the first disk that I received as a message error that says "Recovery Manager cannot restore the file 10.wim. Do you want to continue? "I clicked Yes, and he gave me the same message for files 11 - 19.wim, 2.wim and 20 - 27.wim. I have no idea what it all means. Also once it was done, I have a folder on my desktop, which has 3 other folders inside and inside of those is a ton of other crazy records and files, which I'm sure that my stuff is in PLACE, but the question is, HOW DO I ACCESS AND RESTORE IT ALL to WHERE AND HOW IT WAS?   HP Backup backup many files that are unnecessary, most of your personal files should be in a folder with your old username in the "Users" folder This backup application is also known for being a pain.

  As to why you got the error, that looks like all the files have been extracted, it could be a defective DVD, something caused a bad DVD writing, etc..

  If you do not see a "Users" folder, I have probably start deleting the folder created on the desktop and make a new desktop or in My Documents. Then, copy the files of each DVD to this new folder. As soon as the record test running the. EXE file again to see if any better results.

  Another suggestion-go in Control Panel, Options files and check to be sure "Hidden files" appear.

  If all else fails, install 7Zip and trying to extract the. WIM files.

  I posted it here because there is no whole final forum for the Windows OS line.  It is a problem that has been around since Microsoft made Windows XP and, frankly, I'm tired of it.

  I have some backup players; one that I'm pretty much every day, whenever I have the machine and another every two weeks of use.  I make sure they are always attached to a specific USB port so that the computer does not change in response.  But still, every three months or so, the drive letter handling these jumps from one to the other.  I run a Web site today and use a p2p Manager to transfer files to my machine, but most of them depend on the drive, so I could really do without what is happening every three months... all because your company won't repair it or provide an intuitive, ToolPart beginners' of the Windows operating system, forcing to keep a disk permanently assigned to the same letter.

  I know that this is part of basic programming because it is something that Microsoft has simply been unwilling to identify and correct.  I know also there are millions of people like me who suffer from this problem.  For the love of God, please make this tool a priority for Windows 8 and build one for Windows 7/Vista!

  I don't think that the USB ports are wired so that the computer OS is informed of the port which has been consulted.

  I also doubt that you will get Microsoft to change at this point.  As a solution, I give my readers a volume name, and so I don't know which drive is no matter which drive letter that has.

  Currently, the largest capacity available flash drives I've seen are 128 GB although Wikipedia shows 256 GB flash drives are available now (September 2011) with plans for up to 2 TB capicities.
