Creating a system "double" - cloning/compatibility

We had a recent incident with a component of our business (router) system which made us realize that - even with guarantees - are down, is to be out of business. So even with a guarantee on our ACER system, up to what a (prospectively broken) machine had to get fixed, we'd be out of business! If we want to create a backup system.  The most important piece of software that runs on our machine requires the installation of the software company, and they charge $250 each time that they do we would like to avoid if possible!

Then... We currently have a Veriton VX4818G-Ui5240W and seek to VX4618G-Ui72602W.  If we clone our current system and completely replace the information on the VX4618G-Ui72602W, the new machine will work? In other words, are the drivers on the two compatible machines? I tried to ask this question on the 'cat' (since I have an extended warranty paid) and they referred me to the pay per incident people! (Guess they don't understand the concept of pre/post service.

Here's the technical aspect of things.

About the configuration of the BIOS: If the old image was created from a computer that was enabled in the BIOS IDE, and your new computer have AHCI enabled in the BIOS, you will get a BSOD on windows loading screen. This means that if the original system was activated in the BIOS IDE, the new system must also have active FDI. And the reverse is true as well, if the original system had AHCI enabled in bBIOS, the new system must have AHCI enabled as well. This parameter, for the storage controller, must match between the new and the old system so that Windows beyond the screen to load successfully.

If the motherboard chipset is different between the original image backup system and the new system will be restored to the backup image - you can get a BSOD when the image is installed on the new machine. That tells you the old image is not compatible with the new system chipset.  However, if the old motherboard chipset is quite similar (or identical) to the new chipset motherboard, the image should work fine. More often, the old backup image would have been made on an older system that any computer you replace with several years, and so there usually considerable differences between old chipset and new chipset, which allows to restore the saved image problem.

If your new machine has 4 GB of memory RAM or more, you are better with win7 64 - only win7 64 will allow you to use the full capacity of 4 GB or more memory RAM

I would make sure I had a ready to run for the new machine system restore, however it does not hurt to try the old image. Where I work, we are you are (upgrade within the same product), and 9 times out of 10, just hook a few drivers on the internet once the image is loaded.

Worst case, you will need to just load everything you need on the new computer from scratch. If you have not bought the new machine yet, you can simply buy an another 32-bit. The entire departments here are still on 32-bit computers due to software compatibility problems (old software does work on 64-bit).

  • create a system restore point cases printers stop working

I have two HP printers (Laserjet 1536dnf & Officejet 6500) installed on a PC running Win7 64-bit.  Until January, they worked very well after Win7 updates (restore point created automatically).  Since then, any time a system restore point is created I lose access to these two printers.  By clicking on "Devices and Printers" opens the window and the progress bar goes to infinity with nothing found and the process must be closed with the Task Manager.  Printers are not accessible, but no error message appears.  Any reference to a printer causes this particular process hang and must be closed with the Task Manager.

Both printers are wired Ethernet to Cisco E3000 router and are set up to be shared in the same home group.  Oddly, a second PC in Win7 that is connected via Ethernet to the same router, using the same two printers can create the system restore points without any impact on these two printers.  The main difference between the two is that the PC works an AMD based system, while the affected uses a system based on Intel.

Printer is restored when I restore the system since early January restore point.  Any later restore point using simply reproduces the problem. I have searched the FAQ and forum but can find no cure.

    Hi Amundarken,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community and thank you for the opportunity to help you.

After the description of the problem, looks like HP printers (Laserjet 1536dnf & Officejet 6500) stop working after you have created a restore point system.

To help you to propose measures to solve the problem, I would appreciate if you could answer the following question:

You receive an error message or error code?

Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

Method 1: You can check the status of the Printer Spooler service after you have created a restore point system, if the Printer Spooler service is not started and then start the service and check:

A print spooler is software that temporarily stores the disk printing hard or in memory until the printer is ready to print. If you were expecting an abnormally long time to print a document, or if you see an error message about the print spooler, Spooler subsystem or spooler resources, you might need to change and then restart the print spooler service on your computer.

To do this, we recommend that you save your work and restart the computer to restart the print spooler service. If you do not want to restart the computer, try these steps.

To change or restart the print spooler service, you must be logged on as administrator to perform these steps:

    a. click Startand then click Control Panel.

    b. double-click Administrative Toolsand then click Services.

    c. double-click the Printer Spooler service, and then change the startup type to Automatic. This option sets the spooler service starts automatically when you restart the computer.

    d. If you want to start the spooler service immediately, click Start in the area of The State of the Service .

Method 2: You can update the printer drivers and check if it works.

See the following articles from Microsoft for more information on the update of drivers:

  • The create a System Image will save the FPGA code and the RT code?

I have some cRIO systems which were broadcast in our manufacturing plant for some time. A slight problem has been discovered in the programming and created a workaround solution, but a fix should be implemented. Currently, I have no way to test my new code without loading on the cRIO and it works on the tool while the product is running. If there is a problem and I need to do some debugging, the tool cannot be down for an extended period. I would write a vi that will save an image of the cRIO so I can reload the software that is currently running and prevent a situation of prolonged downtime.

My question is, when I did in the past with a product that has different tests, calibration and the final client software RT, it seems that the code FPGA not be saved (not a big deal at the time since the new FPGA code was compatible with different deployments RT). The new FPGA code won't be compatible with the old RT software, so now I'm worried. I would like to just check on it until I have all the boss breathing down my neck. If the service will not save the bitfile FPGA, is there anything else I can do for the tool to return to the previous running state while I solved problems that may exist with the new code review? The original code was lost by my predecessor. Otherwise, I would use just that.

    Hi Jeremy,.

You are right, because the create a System Image does not record the bitfile with the image of the RT. Using the configuration system API, you will need to deploy the RT image and then the bitfile FPGA compiled later. To ensure that you can return to the previous version of the software running on your RIOs, you could simply save the current image and bitfile before deploying the new image and bitfile.

However, the best way to proceed is to use replication Deployment Utility (RAD of OR). I have provided the link to the tutorial on the wheel, where you can download the utility. This exe will make images of the any of your RT targets and will also include the bitfiles with them. You can also deploy these images to several targets at once. In particular, you can read about the Bitfile (s) configure for FPGA Deployment Flash; the bitfile will be deployed at the start when stored in flash memory.

  • Laptop HP 17 p100: how the usb flash drive big that I have to create a system of 10 Windows Recovery?

How the big usb flash drive do I need to create a system of 10 Windows Recovery?

    Yes

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

There is really no way accurately guess in advance, with one of the reasons being that the options are available when you do this.  An option creates a recovery drive minimum with what is needed to repair the operating system.  Another option creates an image that is able to completely restore the operating system and its partition.  Thus, the size can vary from 4 GB to the size of the partition to the OS.

Myself, I found as build-in recovery to be unreliable, especially those of Ms.  So instead, I use a third-party imaging/restoration solution known as Macrium Reflect.

What I recommend is the following:
    (1) download and install Macrium reflect (MR)
    (2) run M. and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition (s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB key
    (3) use the option to create a CD or a USB startup key

My experience is that SIR, when you use the option of Compression high, typically allows to compress the image file recorded at about 50% of the space USED in the OS partition.  This means that if you have a 40GB and 80GB OS partition is used, MR must only about 20 GB to store the image file.

I use all the time and it usually takes less than 10 minutes to make the backup of the image and at the same time or less do a restore.  In addition, MR has the ability to add a recovery Boot Menu entry.  This then allows you to boot into Windows re, and then you can use it to do a restore - when you cannot start Windows!

NOW, you have the means to restore a full system that works for the external hard drive or USB key in a few minutes.

    Good luck

  • Create a system repair disc?

    Hello:

    RE: HP Pavilion DV-7-4270us Windows 7 64-bit

Recently, I replaced an internal hard drive on the pc that is referenced above. I have re-installed the drivers and software I want.

My next step would be to create a System Image disc?

(I created a restore of the system or the rescue disks while the computer is new, but it would not be installed on the new hard drive, so I'm cautious in doing that, once again, because it wasn't before).

    Thank you

    Hello:

Yes, I use Windows 7 backup tool and do a system image and a system of disc repair, so you can access the system image.

I recommend that you use a portable hard drive, and then you can boot from this CD to repair windows for you, select restore backup image option and have your portable hard drive connected when you are recovering.

Windows will look for the image on your drive hard laptop usb and restore.

You can keep the image for the new installation, that you just did, or you can keep up to date and create a new image whenever you want.

Just know that Windows will overwrite any previous system image, you created on this portable hard drive for the PC.

  • Windows 7 create a system image

What is Windows 7 "create a system image"?

I've been reading comments & comments about free Macrium Reflect and Paragon Software. It seems that neither one is head & shoulders above the other, and the people have problems with both. It goes the same for Norton Ghost and Acronis True Image. People seem to complain at once may not be reliable.

Is there any reason not to use Windows 7's built in software?

Hello BNSFMike, as you suggest, most of these applications to disk image works much the same and is really just a personal preference of the user. I have used several of them over the years and settled on Acronis, since I have never had a problem with Acronis, while I experienced a few problems with other images backup applications at one time or another.

I've never used Windows backup, given that I have heard horror stories of backup locations not where the user wanted that they be saved. The D: Partition Recovery comes to mind.

I do create a new disk image at least once a week and perform a restore disk image every so often.

I have also copy and paste the new disk to an external hard drive image, but also another computer on the network, just for redundant backups. I saw a need for these in the past.

Because everyone has different needs, a backup approach is purely a personal preference, but the main thing to remember, is to always keep a current backup. Disk image approach I use works for me, even though it may not work for others.
