Credentials file used by another process

Hello

I use a query script powercli VMs as soon as they are provided, but if two virtual machines are built in quick succession, that it can cause a conflict with the file of credentials of script that I use. The relevant section of the script is:

$creds = files get-VICredentialStoreItem-C:\scripts\cred.xml

SE connect-VIServer-Server $creds. Home - user $creds. Username-password $creds. Password

Thus, the first iteration of this script grabs the cred.xml and seems holds on it until the script ends. Then, if a second iteration starts and looking for the cred.xml it fails. The exact error I get is:

The process cannot access the file 'C:\scripts\cred.xml' because it is used by another process

So, my question is - is there a way to avoid this by adding a control at the beginning of the script may be to check if the file is locked? Then put in pause for 60 seconds...? Someone at - it something already that I could reuse?

Much appreciated,

Mike

    Hi Robrw,

    1. when exactly you receive this error?

    2. don't you make changes to the computer before this problem?

You can try to rename the catroot2 folder and check if it helps.

    Step 1:

    a. Click Start and in run type C:\windows\system32 and click ok

    b. find the Catroot2 folder. Right-click on Catroot2 and rename it to Catroot2.old

If you are not able to do the normal mode, try to start in safe mode and rename

Check out the link for more information on starting your computer in SafeMode below:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315222

    Step 2:

If you are unable to access the catroot2 folder, and then try to change the permissions on the files and check if it helps.

    See the following article:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/308421

    Step 3:

You can also try to temporarily disable third-party security software and firewalls and check what is happening.

Note: Activate the security software after the resolution of the problem.

  • Error: "the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." when treid to install the device driver

Original title: Windows cannot install the drivers

I had a lot of trouble installing the drivers on my Windows computer.  I went straight in the Device Manager and deleted the devices I tried to install and reinstalled them, I went into safe mode, I got Windows to run the console and only the basic process and run from there Device Manager... no matter what I do the same mistake.

"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process".

Even after a restore of the system, he did this, and I don't know what to do anymore.  Only devices that have been previously installed work.

What's more important install my Blackberry software because my phone is broken.  The software cannot detect my phone because the drivers have not been installed.  Most of the devices I can use with Linux (I have Windows Vista and Ubuntu running on the same computer), but RIM don't make Blackberry for Linux software, so I have to do it on Windows.

    Hello

It is the result of malware, then do a very thorough check and when the system is
clean see the following message to remove this error.

If you need search malware here's my recommendations - they will allow you to
scrutiny and the withdrawal without ending up with a load of spyware programs running
resident who can cause as many questions as the malware and may be more difficult to detect as the
    cause.

No one program cannot be used to detect and remove any malware. Added that often easy
to detect malicious software often comes with a much harder to detect and remove the payload. Then
its best to be thorough than paying the high price later now too. Check with them to one

  • executable files: cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

    Hello
I created a file named test.bat on my desk
baptized "test.bat" and sent the notebook, wrote "REM" and recorded.
so, I closed my notebook and reopened, has added another "REM" and saved the file again.
then I tried to rename, move the file to another folder and delete
    everything went without any problems.

But if I create the file and run it, the command prompt will appear for a while and then disappear.
I can rename or move the file without any problem,
But if I try to edit the file in Notepad, I get this error:

The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

and the file is not saved.

also, if I try to delete the file, it seems to be deleted until I press F5, the file appears again.

It seems the file is opened (or if I choose to delete) after a few minutes, then it is not if I try to access
the file (I kept pressing F5 every few seconds for 15 minutes and the file is missing)

the problem appears if occuar with any file name, anywhere, not just the office or home by car, not even on the same disk,
while I had no problem when I started in an old installation of windows xp and repeat the same steps.

I tried to use the sysinternals utility handle, that's what I have:

  • How can I delete a file that my SBS 2011 server thinks is used by another process?

We are moving the files from one disk to a larger drive.  I was able to move all the files in a directory (is there a lot), except a single file.  Our server thinks that this file is used by another process.  It is not.  I tried to use the cmd prompt to delete the file, but that did not work.  I tried theRmDir /S /Q, I tried the old del (name of file) I continue to get the message this file is in use by another process.  I have changed all of the security on this file, I unchecked the boxes for archiving.  Nothing works.

    Any advice?

Someone else has this problem or not a way I can take care of it. Any help is appreciated thank you.

    Hi Drew G

I've seen this before. Unfortunately, I can't tell you how to overcome. In my situation, we had Microsoft FrontPage Web sites. When I see him, I reported the problem for people who have managed web servers. They have done something to correct the problem. I don't know if it's a server, reset or maybe simply to restart a process on the server. But they would do their thing and I'll be back in business.

It's normal.  You can not run a check disk on your system disk because your system is to use.  The Message you get should ask you if you want to run it at the next reboot.  You must answer 'Yes' to this message, and then restart your computer.  A disk check should take place as it is restarted.

FYI: A check disk can take hours if you have a large drive or there are a lot of problems on the disc and you cannot use your machine while the scan is in progress.  Better to operate during the night.  Also, I got checkdsk completely erase the hard disk to the point where the only option was to reformat and reinstall Windows.  Make sure that your data available are well-supported before running Chkdsk.

  • Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process

My computer was working fine until last night. Now when I connect I get a blue screen saying that the computer shuts down to prevent further damage from happening. I tried to restore to an earlier point in time when my computer was working but then I get the error:

The OS disk (C :) has errors.
Windows has detected corruption on OS (C :) file system. You should check the drive for errors before you can restore it.

So I'm going to run the chkdsk utility, and I get the error:
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. You want to schedule this volume to check the next time the system restarts.

I'm confused because the chkdsk unility usually works, and I have no idea why she is being used by another process. I am clearly not very good with computers. I tend to do a lot of spywear and adwear on my computer. I have Spyware Doctor that removes any infection.

Help, please. I've tried everything. Thank you.

    Asha22,
It appears from your last post why chkdsk did not run on reboot and you gave an incorrect message is that you did not a space between the volume and the f number.  The correct syntax is:

    CHKDSK c: /f

You can also run the utility disc in this way:
    http://windowshelp.Microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/help/bc1393cf-9f9c-79C7-0f91-9337c2c41f811033.mspx

    1. open the computer by clicking the Start button, click computer.

    2. right click on the hard drive you want to check, and then click Properties.

    3. click on the Tools tab and then, under check for errors, click check now.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

To automatically repair problems with files and folders that the scan detects, select automatically fix file system errors. Otherwise, the disk check will simply report a problem, but not to fix them.

To perform a full disk check, select search and attempt to recover bad sectors. This scan is trying to find and repair physical errors on the hard drive itself, and it may take much longer to complete.

To check for errors file and the physical errors, select both automatically fix errors in file system and search for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

    4. click on start.

Depending on the size of your hard disk, this may take several minutes. For best results, do not use your computer for any other tasks while it checks errors.

Note: If you select automatically errors in file system of fix for a disc that is used (for example, the partition that contains Windows), you will need to reschedule the disk check for the next time you restart your computer.

The reason that it says that the disk is in use by another process is because it is in use by the operating system (Vista), and that's why it must be run at startup, before the operating system loads fully.

Another utility, you need to perform is the System File Checker, if you can get your computer to start, either normally or in Mode without failure.
To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
Click Start and type cmd in the box start the search.
Right click on cmd in the list programs, and then click Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue
At the command prompt, type the following line and press ENTER:
    sfc/scannow
When the analysis is complete, test to see if the problem you are experiencing is resolved.

Let us know what these tests are and how we can also provide assistance.

Also, when I connect to my Windows 7 PC and try to open the gadgets I get error indicating:

Settings.ini is being used by another process. Close other programs, and then click Retry, or click Cancel to exit.

My start > search function does not work either.  However, the two functions, and gadgets and start > search, work under different user accounts.

Someone saw on how to solve this problem?

I don't know if it's related, but Thunderbird 3 has stopped working as well.  UGH!
