  My organization purchased upgrade CS6 Master Suite in which we used a serial number CS4 Master Suite we had owned in December of 2012. The installation was very good. I'm now doing a clean install of a new SSD volume and it is is not letting me use the serial number CS4 MS, saying: this isn't a product calling. I thought maybe it was because I had always installed on another volume, so I disabled that settle, but I still got the same message.

  No, the CS4 was purchased in 12/2009, so it has nothing to do with the window of upgrade of last year. Or at least it shouldn't be!

  I was talking about buying CS6 not CS4 - and if the CS6 Installer got his calendar and upgrade windows mixed up. But forget this thought. A Kipper irrelevant.

  My operating system is Windows 7-64 bit.  What is the advantage (or disadvatage) using Photoshop CS6 versus CS6 - 64-bit?  The two seem to run OK on my computer (I am a user of Photoshop Elements long - but Photoshop new Full).  Thank you.

  Another thing comes to mind, even if it is minor: even when the data is small, on average, 64-bit applications run a bit faster than 32-bit applications.  My own measurements, with intensive graphics data, suggest that the x 64 instruction set is about 15% faster than the x 86 instructions.  The difference in performance will grow if you do a lot of editing work and/or have enough large documents, because more time will be spent swapping memory in the 32-bit Photoshop.

  In addition, since Photoshop 32 bit and 64-bit applications (mostly) keep their preferences separately, you can optimize for certain things and the other for other things.  I, for example, my Photoshop 32 bit app put in place for a better functioning when I assemble astroimages (arriving first via a 32-bit plug-in), whereas my 64-bit application is better optimized for general photography, where I normally start with dSLR raw files open in Camera Raw.

  Note that you can have them both open at the same time, and if you use the bridge, the default Photoshop use to edit a file will fix a way, but can be changed via the Bridge preferences.

  If you like your old default CS4 brushes and want them in CS6, try this.

  Open Photoshop CS4

  Make sure that CS4 is set to the default brushes.

  Since the icon pointing to the right in the CS4 brush Panel, select Manager of Preset

  Preset Manager open, a brush to select, click on Cmd has to select all.

  Click on 'Save Set' and name it default CS4 brushes. Save it to the desktop where you can see the file.

  Drag in Applications/Photoshop CS6/Presets/brushes

  Then, you should be able to select and replace in the list under the devices menu.

  I am having a frustrating problem. When I Live Trace a hand drawn map, I made in CS4, it comes out perfectly, convert the lines that I drew for vector perfectly, when you use the default settings. However, in CS6 settings by default does not capture half of the lines and changing the way they look. I tried to match the CS4 and CS6 tracing option menus, but there are different setting between the two categories. Can someone help me understand what must be paid CS6 to match the settings default to CS4?

  You can not. It is a completely different engine using the trace feature in both versions.

  Unfortunately, this applies also to the models that you provide. The new tracing feature produces particularly bad results with black and white raster (bitmaps) resp. Gray rasters containing edges smoothed (too much contrast).

  In case you have that kind of raster image, you must resample it in a way that gives you some more anti-aliasing.

• Arrangement of Documents in mosaic in CS6 v CS4

  I just upgraded by creative cloud to CS6.  I can't find in CS6 brilliant documents icon automatically arranges the documents opened in CS4 with a single click of tiles.  Anyone know where it is hidden? Bob

  They were not in the toolbar, they are in what is called the Application bar. But because it was not great thing else in the app bar it was considered a waste of screen space and has been removed in later versions.

  I have tile windows all the time and like you I wish even we icons for it, but the best solution for now is to use Edit > keyboard shortcuts to assign shortcuts to your tile orders preferred.

  Sounds like wishful thinking to me.

  I've sometimes seen older data versions on the DVD on the cover of tech magazines, but never by Adobe themselves. You will need to contact Adobe Customer Service to go this route.

  If you do not have a serial number CS4 then get their hands on the CS4 file download won't help you much if you can't install and activate it via a serial number.

  CS6 should be able to read all previous versions without any problem.

  Notice that I said should. The same is true for CS5 and 5.5, and there is more than one or two reports here that developed problems with files inherited their conversion directly in CS5. Most of these problems were not manifest until the days after much editing and conversions. Export of the originals at .idml or .inx and opening in the new version seem to be very effective in preventing this (and in all honesty, it wasn't something that happened to all users or all files, so it could have other problems with files that have been reported), so I strongly recommend exporters of CS4 and using the .idml to continue your project in CS6 without saving it with the same name, just in case you need to revert to the original for some reason any.

  I started the update of my software CS6 thinking that all this talk about the upgrade being designated as CC was a stroke of Marketing.  Instead the Application Manager installed CC version, and kept the CS6 version installed.  What is the difference and why do we need both CS6 and CC version on our machines?

  @RonDinoso - CC is a major new release, like going from CS5 CS6. You can keep both on your machine or remove CS6, your choice.
