CSA without virtual machines!

Hi all

Will be Cisco Security Agent operating without VMS MC?

Thanks in advance

It can stop most of the things that man trying to do but does not replace anti-virus software. It will stop the attempts of infection as the recent attacks to work if you have rules in place to deny connections unauthorized guests. We also use it to stop known viruses executable by creating access to the files of control rules that deny the payloads as BOTZOR running. EXE and wintbp.exe. Works very well.

  • Run a virtual machine with a graphical interface on a host without GUI

    Hallo

    I want to install a simple Windows 7 for some tasks bit where I need Windows on my server Ubuntu 14.04. This server has no GUI (no X) and should have any.

    Already, I've installed the virtual Windows machine on my workstation to 12, so I would just copy the vmdk on my linux server and run it, maybe put something in the vmx file.

    But I do not know is that it's all means possible.

    Is it?

    Is there any player or any application for ubuntu VMware when there is no X system (on ubuntu), where I can run virtual machines with GUI inside?

    Maybe another virtualization tool, vmware not?

    I think that this exact question already somewhere, but I haven't found much question where comments lacking a GUI, but not the host.

    I need a guest-gui on a host without gui (where I have only the terminal).

    So maybe it's not possible at all, so please tell me a 'no', so I won't expect more

    EDIT: oh, this seems to be another question unanswered it is too difficult or too stupid?

    Hi Frank,.

    Now that would be stupid, having a text Installer, and then not allow the virtual machine to run. I think it should work, but you must pass the nogui option.

    Vmrun help:

    The default graphical user interface option starts the machine in an interactive way,

    Nogui option suppresses the user interface,

    including start-up, to allow dialog box not interactive

    [gui | nogui]

    refer to the manual of vmrun: VIX API Documentation

    Edit: hmm... Now, I see that you have already tried the nogui option. You might be able to install the package libxinerama, but he could hang out in a lot of dependencies.

    FWIW, vSphere is pretty much what you describe a system not GUI to run GUI invited, so it shouldn't be a problem at all.

    Unfortunately, I don't have a host linux without X installed handy here, so can't test here without the implementation of a server without head myself.

    You can also try to run the client via the command vmware:

  • How to start a virtual machine without vmx file

    Hello, I have a virtual machine that I want to start up using 10.0.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 32-bit workstation but I don't have multiple vmdk files and a file on me vmxf and apparently, that's all that is in the software. How do I run something like that?

    Hello
    You cannot start a virtual machine without a vmx file.
    If you do not have a vmx file - fly a.
    For example this one:
    -----------------------------------

    . Encoding = "windows-1252".

    config.version = '8 '.

    virtualHW.version = '8 '.

    scsi0. Present = 'TRUE '.

    scsi0.virtualDev = "free".

    memsize = "2048".

    scsi0:0. Present = 'false '.

    scsi0:0. FileName = "set-path-to-bootdisk-and-then-set-.present-to-true-to-activate".

    ethernet0. Present = 'TRUE '.

    ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000".

    displayName = "minimal-vm.

    guestOS = "windows7-64.

    virtualHW.productCompatibility = "hosted".

    ------------------------------------

    That cuts into a file and store it as a *.vmx.
    Then launch the new VM with
    VMware /path-to-vmx/name.vmx or
    vmplayer /path-to-vmx/name.vmx
    Other users may also recommend to simply launch the user interface and follow the file > New menu...
    and then order the new virtual machine to the card by selecting your existing virtual disks.

  • Migrate virtual machines from HP G7(single host) for HP G8 (Cluster) without shared storage

    Hello

    I have 2 esxi host (hp dl 380 G8) and put them in a cluster and other host esxi (dl 380 g7) and I have no shared storage and use local disks just now I must spend my VM G7 server a cluster of the G8 but I want to know I can join my cluster g8 g7 and migrate web vmware machines without any downtime?

    I want to know can migrate without downtime with localdisk? I have no shared storage

    Best regards

    BAbak

    can I join g7 to my cluster of the g8

    You can mix into clusters hosts all desired, even Intel and AMD at least that you enable EVC on the cluster (of course, HA or DRS require shared storage compatible/CPU). However, you need not to have even just cluster hosts to migrate virtual machines through vMotion between them.

    migrate web vmware machines without any downtime?

    Don't know what this "web vmware' but yes, because ESXi 5.1, you can use"enhanced vMotion"to live migrate virtual machines without service interruption from one host to another, even without shared storage:

    Migration with vMotion in environments without shared storage

    The usual vMotion requirements apply. Also you can only live migrate virtual machines from the old host to the new hosts because of different generations of CPU (and back as long as you don't have bike powered virtual machines on new hosts).

  • API to create a Virtual Machine without using a model

    I see the GUI documentation how to create a virtual machine without a model, but I can't find the actions of the API how to build the virtual machine based on custom settings (CPU, memory, OS, etc.), there are a only of the shares how instantiate OVF or vAppTemplate. Could you please tell is possible to generate/create the VM without model or OVF by API?

    I see. Thanks for the background.

    Based on my notes there is no such API. Other applications were similar to this one and the solution suggested in this case is to programmatically create an OVF (describing the configuration of the VM to instantiate) and import it into the vDC. The end result is the same (i.e. an empty VM configured by entries) the difference is how it gets instantiate (created from zero Vs described in the OVF and imported).

    I did one of these 5.5 virtual ESXi host a NTP server by editing the file /etc/ntp.conf with below configuration and

    Now, when I configure NPT Client/Server on virtual machines through the Configuration Option under Option Configuration time

    in Vsphere Client everything works fine and the client and the server to synchronize with each other. I checked the file /etc/ntp.conf on both the client

    and the server and it has a couple of restrict 127.0.0.1 and restrict the lines added by default kod nomodify etc.

    So why NPT Server featured when enabled via Vsphere Client works very well, but it does not work when it is configured manually

    in the virtual servers directly.

    I was connected to a vCenter Server Appliance through the VSphere Client and enabled the synchronization of time of the NPT.

    I really need to know how to configure the NTP server without using the Vsphere Client so that I can automate the

    task by writing a python script that would connect to each virtual server and NTP Client/Server configuration.

    Any help in this issue deeply appreciated!

    Thank you!

    You can configure the ntp server without using viclient.

  • Locate a virtual machine without vCenter?

    We run ESXi 4.1 with vCenter 4.1.  Our vCenter server as its backend SQL are located on the virtual machines.  Recently, our SQL Server went down vCenter rendered useless.  I rose all return successfully logging into the host of the SQL Server virtual computer with my client vSphere and restart it.  However, without vCenter, I was connecting each host and verification of inventory search of the virtual machine.  Fortunately, we do not have many guests, but y at - it a script or tool I can ues to know about what a particular VM host lies when vCenter isn't available?

    If you are looking for a particular virtual machine, you can use a script like PowerCLI below

    $hostlist = "esxihost1", "esxihost2", "esihost3".

    $hostlist = Read-Host "enter the name of the virtual machine:

    $hostlist | %{

    $dummy = connect-VIServer-Server $_-username-password

    If (Get-VM-name $vmName - ErrorAction SilentlyContinue) {}

    Write-Host "VM" $vmName "found on" $defaultViServer - ForegroundColor Green

    Disconnect-VIServer-confirm: $false

  • Stop virtual machines with or without VMware tools installed

    So after a power failure major where I work has taken place where the batteries of the UPS only ran about 10 minutes and the emergency generator didn't kick in, I was put in charge of writing a script that starts to stop the virtual machines and servers in a given cluster. Now that I am relatively new to the environment here, so I don't know if all the virtual machines have the tools are installed. I want to cover all bases and the virtual machines that do not have the tools installed. My script done now is it initiates closing the comments on all the virtual machines and check every 10 seconds to 120 seconds for virtual machines go offline if after 120 seconds, there are even virtual machines online, it issues a shutdown command on all servers that have not stopped. Now, he'll catch all the virtual machines, but I don't want the machine have to wait 2 minutes before totality if it can be avoided (remember that this script will be executed when the data center goes to the power of the UPS for every watt account to keep critical systems online). the script throws an error when it cannot stop because no tool is installed, so I thought I could use a try/catch block to catch the error and send just a detroit of turning control of these VMs off. I tried to do, but without success.

    Is it possible that I can either catch the error, or a stop all virtual machines that do not have the tools installed?

    Attached is my code, maybe you can spot what can I do to stop the virtual machines without tools within the do / while loop when errors occur first.

    Try something like this

    $vm = Get-VM
    $vm | where {$_.Guest.State -eq "Running"} | Shutdown-VMGuest -Confirm:$false $vm | where {$_.Guest.State -eq "NotRunning"} | Stop-VM -Confirm:$false

    Virtual machines running VMware tools will get a judgment of comments, while the virtual machines that do not have the VMware tools running, will get a poweroff.

  • Changing the settings of Cluster SWAP without the virtual machine downtime

    Hi all

    My question refers to the vSphere 5.0 version.

    I need to change the settings of my VMware Cluster swap file.

    It is set to "store the swap file in the data specified by the host store.

    I want to change it to "store the file in the same directory as the virtual machine.

    Can I do this without the VM downtime?

    Kind regards

    Martin

    You can change the setting in the cluster without affecting your running virtual machines, but virtual machines will not use this new setting until they have been rolled power.

  • We can recover a virtual machine of flat files without committing snapshots?

    I have a virtual machine that has died due to having excessive snapshots. "Too many levels of redo logs.

    Can I get out this virtual machine to the top without committing the delta files, IE just use original flat files?

    I tried going through the KB1004545 to solve the problem of the snapshot, and it fails

    Thanks in advance!
    Brendan

    It's really kind of unusual, but we will try to fix things.

    1.) create multiple subdirectories which you will pass some files during this procedure
    -not used
    -backup

    -fact
    -temp

    (2.) do a cleaning of unused files
    -move all the files to "...-ctk.vmdk" for the "unused" subdirectory
    -move the "000002" files in the subdirectory "unused" (not in the chain of snapshot)
    -move the '000239' files in the subdirectory "unused" (not in the chain of snapshot)
    -move the "000258' - '000287' files in the 'unused' subdirectory (contain no user data)

    3.) backs up the descriptor files

    -Copy all the hard of descriptor/header files in the subdirectory "backup."

    4.) merging the snapshots in the basic disk using the vmkfstools utility
    Given that problems with two virtual disks are the same, I'll explain the procedure for the first disc of "nzaklapp11" only. Once you are done with the first virtual disk, repeat steps to 'nzaklapp11_1 '.

    First round:

    • run: vmkfstools-i nzaklapp11 - 000030.vmdk temp/nzaklapp11.vmdk
    • the files '000030' moving 'nzaklapp11.vmdk', "nzaklapp11 - flat hard" as well as the "000001" - to the subdirectory 'done '.
    • Move hard files created in sub-repertoire 'temp' in the virtual machine file
    • Edit "nzaklapp11 - 000031.vmdk".
      parentFileNameHint = "nzaklapp11.vmdk".
      parentCID =

    Repeatedly executes:

    • run: vmkfstools-i nzaklapp11 - 000060.vmdk temp/nzaklapp11.vmdk
    • move the "000031' -"000060"files in the subdirectory 'done '.
    • Remove "nzaklapp11.vmdk", "nzaklapp11 - flat hard."
    • Move hard files created in sub-repertoire 'temp' in the virtual machine file
    • Edit "nzaklapp11 - 000061.vmdk".
      parentFileNameHint = "nzaklapp11.vmdk".
      parentCID =

    Repeat the "works on several occasions" by increasing the number of 30 until you are finished with all snapshots.

    Once finished with the two discs, and you confirmed that the new disks are ok, you can remove the subdirectories created in step 1.

    If anything is unclear, please feel free to ask.

  • How to move virtual machines from one host to another without full VI and vMotion?

    Hello

    could you help me with a question?

    I have two installed hosts with ESXi 3.5 U5, which are connected to the shared iSCSI (Openfiler) - VMs storage are installed on the storage disk. My requirement is to have a cheap solution of DR - in case of failure of a host, I need to move and start VM on the host of work. How to achieve without going through VMware Infrastructure 3.5 and vMotion?

    I found this article:

    http://www.virtualizetips.com/2010/04/how-to-move-a-VM-without-vCenter-or-storage-VMotion/

    but RCLI needs Infrastructure of VMware ESXi does not have default CLI So, how to move VMs between hosts (of course I mean "cold" move) without byuing any additonal VMware SW? It is generally possible in my situation?

    Thank you.

    ARO

    Danas

    If the virtual machines are running in shared storage (two guests see the same storage iSCSI or NFS) then it's simple. If a host goes down, then look for the data store on the ESXi host work. Navigate through folders for each virtual machine, right-click on the VMX file and add to the inventory. You will then be able to turn on the virtual machine.

    To move a virtual machine from one host to another, as long as both hosts had the same processors, you can pause the VM on the single host, browse and add the virtual machine to the inventory on the second break host and the United Nations.

    If the virtual machines are on local storage, but the two hosts are connected to the same shared storage, clone virtual machines on a daily basis from local storage to shared storage. Use something like ghettoVCB http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-8760 make the clone. In the case of a server failure, you will be able to browse the data store, add to the inventory on the shared storage and switch the cloned machine.

  • move a virtual machine without taking down

    I know it can be done with vSphere/vCenter, but only two standalone ESXi 4.1 servers, is it possible to move a VM from one to the other while the virtual machine is always on?

    OR is there a way to move a virtual machine from a data store to another on the SAME ESX host without taking it down?

    Of course I can ovf them and re - deploy anywhere, but which requires to take the virtual machine down?

    you could use VMware Converter and convert a "machine engine.  In this way, you can leave the source running while you convert to the new destination.
