CSS / DIV Issue

Hi all

I'm not necessarily new Div/CSS layouts, but I'm having a problem at the moment that makes me batty!

Here is the page:
http://www.assumption.edu/programs2006/master/default.html

Here's the CSS:
http://www.assumption.edu/programs2006/master/CSS/layout.CSS

If you try to watch it in the browsers of Gekko, it works fine... but if you try to watch using MS IE or Safari for Mac, the page is completely white... completely empty.

I'm sure it's a simple little something, but I can't seem to find that needle in a haystack.

Thanks for any idea!
Ron

Thierry,

I can't believe I did such a rookie mistake! But after further investigation, I had 2 sets ofTags... Oh! (best impression of Homer Simpson)<p class="reply"> <p class="reply">Thanks for catching it!</p> <p class="reply">Ron</p>

    I am slowly converting my site to use the div and css tables tags and have just a few simple questions. Please be patient with my stupidity.

    on my site www.tankinz.com to the right of the page, there is a quick order guide, it consists of boxes offers different packages that can be purchased, it is easy to create tables, but with the div and css tags it makes sense, but executing what I want it to do is another story.

    as far as I understand, that each of these boxes would be a tag div and css I can style each box, or the div tag, including its size, color etc. when I create the div tags all stacked on each other, how to align the so that they are side by side, I suppose it has to do with 'the box settings' section of css can anyone help?

    Yes. Put what you like in the floating #boxes.

    Forget everything you learned in FrontPage.  Deprecated invoked FP code owner of MS that do not meet the standards of the web so much less today. The align attribute is invalid and has been since HTML4 came out.

    DW forces you to use CSS and web standards.  It is also easier to work if you have a good knowledge of modern (semantic markup) HTML & CSS.   Practice makes perfect.

  • CSS/divs vs tables

    The ongoing debate on 'Use tables or do not use the tables' does little to shed light on this topic for me. I read articles saying that any good programmer these days should shun tables as if they were riddled with viruses of plague. Other supporters of the tables to minimize the role of the CSS and still others say to use both.

    Well, I don't have all day to surf the net looking for answers, then I ask these questions here, in my favorite forum:

    Tables become past?
    If this isn't the case, when using best wire (encapsulated) div/CSS tables?
    Why the harsh difference according to tables against CSS/div?

    Right.

    Thank you all!

    See you soon,.

    Al,

    Thanks for your well worded comments. As for me, I do not use liquid or flexible layouts (if they are the same thing). I find unpleasant liquid layouts for a variety of aesthetic reasons.

    CSS is not a huge thing to learn, but without concise help books and forums, it was not a walk in the Park. Tables, I find it too difficult and unruly and as I mentioned in my post to Murray, they do not provide the appearance that I prefer.

    I appreciate, however, the points raised in your arguments and the comment left by David. You two had time to explain EXACTLY what I was asking. Thank you two for the effort.

    See you soon,.

  • Tag DIV, positioning CSS H1and issue

    Hi all
    I have a basic question concerning the placement of a text inside a < div > tag. Essentially, I am creating a small topic block (the < div > tag) 750px wide by high 25px, with a left-aligned title text and a prize titled text aligned to the right and 5px of padding around the text on all sides.

    The problem I have is just to get the right text aligned to move far enough to the right of the block 750px topic using CSS. I want to create more space between the end of the title text and the beginning of the price text, but because the length of the title text will vary from point to point, I can't use a compensation of the left margin of the title text. Basically I want to compensate the right text to the far right of the header itself block edge without the use of tables. I hope this makes sense.

    What would be a good approach to take to do something as simple as this, not to mention that I am trying to create something that "looks like" a table without using tables?

    Thank you
    ~ Greg

    We will see the page, please.

    A float located on contano of text with a right margin may be whatever you
    need.

  • CSS, DIV and editable regions

    Hi all

    I am having trouble about a fairly simple dreamweaver model in combination with an external css file. For design purposes, it should be all done using DIV (without tables).

    That's what I am looking for: page 80% width, centered:

    1 (editable) left header - the header right

    2 menu

    3 content (editable)

    4 footer

    It is particularly important that the content (3) can be changed WITHOUT interfering with the other DIV or anything else. Also, the left of the header (1) must be editable, but it is only text or banner or so.

    I really hope that someone can help me here, because after hours of research, I'm kindof see letters, no words more ;-)

  • CSS styling issue

    I added a new style called 14 changed the text and spacing of the rest of the site (it's 16 and other parameters)

    He works in dreamweaver, but when I see it on the web, it's always the old size of a table - < td >

    When I surligner highlight the text, then select 'class' it will add a "span" sometimes

    Other times, when between < td > he will add it to the < td > and it won't work.

    It does not work

    < height td = "100" align = "center" valign = "top" class = "14" >

    It does not work

    < span class = "14" >

    CSS is simple:

    .14 {}

    do-family: ' open without ", without serif.

    do-size: 14px;

    line-height: normal;

    color: #666;

    line-height: 20px;

    }

    What Miss me?

    example:

    digitaldealershipsystem.com/Gallery.html

    The text in the gray area is marked with < height td = "100" align = "center" valign = "top" class = "14" >

    I hope that I can add a TD or similar, but I don't want that it applied to all tables

    PS > there is obviously some HTML and other issues, but I'm afraid that with that right now.

    Thank you.

    CSS selector names must be from Aa to Zz.  They may not begin with numeric values.

    .14 is invalid code.

    .style14 is the valid code.

    Instead of using the selector names that carry no deliberate meaning, try using the selector names that tell you what the style is used for.  It makes your code easier to handle.

  • Dreamweaver CS5 tags get started CSS Div

    I FOLLOWED THE GETTING STARTED TUTORIAL AND GOT THE BANNER DIV, DIV OF MAIN IMAGE AND THE 3 COLUMN DIVSDIVA I TRIED TO CREATE A FOOTER LIKE DIV FOR COPYRIGHT AND CONTACT INFO, BUT THEN IT IS PLACED AT THE END OF THE DIV. RIGHT COLUMN  IN OTHER WORDS, IT REMAINS IN LINE WITH THE DIVSDIVA OF THE 3 COLUMN, IT DOESNTDOESN CAN'T FALL BELOW THEM

    Without seeing your code, it is difficult to say with certainty, but I think you may have forgotten to clear a float, need you the following css

    {.clearfloat}

    Clear: both;

    height: 0px;

    line-height: 0px;

    font-size: 1px;

    }

    then just before your feet of logon page

    you need to enter something like

    If this doesn't help not could you post a link to your live page or the postal code.

  • Another CSS layout issue

    Hello!

    I finally left drop tables and I now have my first focused on the div css layout. Sometimes I feel totally lost as in this example. I can not get the subtitle of the page ("Etusivu") down from the top of the div that is. • CSS, div and the AP div tags.

    Hi guys, I am building a Web page using a trial version of dreamweaver and I have a few problems with the formatting and CSS.

    I'm trying to build a gallery of thumbnails and managed to pretend grand in design mode, by using the 'class' selector (sorry for my terminology if it is false), by placing the thumbnails in an AP div and using the field "box" to set appropriate margins.

    But when the preview in internet explore, the images appear up against the div 'container', I said, even if that puts them outside the ap Div they are contained in.

    I found a 'solution' - to position elements in design mode so that they display correctly in internet explorer, even if it meant that the left most miniature has a border of 100 instead of 50.

    But to complicate things more, this Setup program incorrectly displayed in Safari and Firefox. (The images appear on the far right, but at least identical in both programs).

    I also tried to use regular divs and no divs, with similar problems. In fact, often the elements (including text) position I do not appear as they should.

    Can someone tell me what is happening and how to fix?

    Thanks in advance.

    I replied to your post of corss "vignettes of positioning" and suggested that you use a table to do this, since
    a table is the best and easiest to create a grid, which is what you want.
    If you don't want to use a table, learn CSS and use AP div tags.
    Divs are not a viable solution for your problem and are almost never a good idea, although they
    are often used by beginners because PA divs can be moved and positioned where you want
    the design view. Ease of use is an illusion and creates unexpected problems you encounter.

  • CSS formatting issues

    I should start this by saying: I am very new to CSS layouts and am self-taught, so I'm probably doing something very wrong. So far I have stuck to layouts very simple and had no problems... but they have been implemented with very simple page.

    With the site, I'm doing this now that I placed another div inside a content div, so that I can have left and the content of the right hand in the div content. But the left and right div isn't pushing the div contained down with their content, and I don't know what else to try to make it work.

    I tried setting the height of the div contained for auto or inherit, but who doesn't.

    As you can see on the home page of the site, I use a background image in the cell content.

    http://members.WestNet.com.au/zelky/surfschoolnew/index.html

    And if you look at the details page you can see what I'm trying to describe. The contained not div pushing down with the left and right content div content means that the background image is a few pixels deep under the nav DIV.

    http://members.WestNet.com.au/zelky/surfschoolnew/details.html

    And my pathetic/stylesheet CSS is here:

    http://members.WestNet.com.au/zelky/surfschoolnew/mainStyle.CSS

    Thanks in advance and I hope that my mess isn't ' hard to watch. As I said I'm a little lost so I hope I won't confuse anyone with my skills "home made".

    When you "float" elements on your page you remove effectively
    the normal flow of the document, the 'content '.

    think
    nothing is inside. You need to help him "compensation" by the floats.
    There are various methods of clearing of floats.

    Insert a "clearing".
    (see below) in the code of your pages directly
    AFTER the closing tag container 'just' and BEFORE the closing 'content '.
    tag Container.

  • CSS layout issues

    IM probably missing something stupid and obvious, but im trying to add previous buttons and next to my layout and its does not work

    I want that:

    http://toddheymandirector.com/Archive/2/

    to look like this:

    http://toddheymandirector.com/images/archive.jpg

    My stylesheet:

    http://toddheymandirector.com/CSS/style_heyman_1.CSS

    ideas?

    Instead of floating the previous buttons and following, do the main-content class relatively placed.

    Then make the class of fadehover positioned in absolute terms.

    #next {top: 170px; right - 30px ;}}

    #prev {top: 170px; left: 30px}

    Very rough calculations, but it should give you the idea.

  • CSS layout issue

    Hi there and that if a long time for your help. I'm sure the answers are easy.

    My questions are all on this page:

    http://www.energywa.co.za/CSS-layout.php

    I am busy redesigning our web site and have forgotten a lot of CSS stuff, I used ± 3 years.

    1. so that this provision to work, I had first put in the column on the right handed and after the main content. It shows why not in order?

    2. How can I make sure that the columns on the right do not spread in my footer if the text is longer than the main content?

    Any suggestions in a different way is welcome, please.

    Kind regards

    Deon

    (1) you can have it left then right, what you just float to the left to the left and the right to the right.

    / * copied from firefox firebug * /.

    {.oneColFixCtrHdr #mainContent
    -moz-background-clip: border;
    -moz-background-inline-policy: continuous;
    -moz-background-origin: padding;
    background: #FFFFFF no-repeat scroll 0 0;
    float: left;
    padding: 0 20px;
    Width: 780px;
    }
    then you can have the content in the correct order.

    -After you do this, you will get the footer color behind your right sidebar that brings us to question 2

    (2) add clear: both for footer styles

    .oneColFixCtrHdr #footer {}
    background-color: #FF0000;
    Clear: both;
    padding: 0 10px;
    }
  • (CSS) Rounded corners on divs with shadows...

    Hello

    It seems that with IE9, it is now safe to use generated rounded corners CSS div tags.

    It's rounded corners divs with shadows?

    Is it now feasible? (and doable, I hear by viewable in IE9 and FF4)

    Thank you!

    If it's possible with CSS3 then Yes.

    It's the kind of effect you have in mind?

  • CSS font size changes also in wrong div

    I changed the font size of the 'a' tags in my footer via css div and they bud because I expected to do, but some (not all) of the tags 'a' changed in another div (content_2pad). I have no idea why. The size of the hover is the size it is supposed to be, so that the text moves by hovering, but only in some places. In most places, he stayed to the right size. I just don't understand. Someone who can point me in a direction would have my gratitude.

    This page is the worst case of the problem

    It's the style sheet.

    In addition, the headers and footers are completely planted in IE6, so please look in FF or IE7 (using fixed div tags).

    OK, I feel stupid? The problem was that the smaller font was caused by "visited", and that I had not visited the same links in all the different browsers, as I watched, the difference in size of police appeared random.

    The problem was in my style sheet, I didn't finish the selector: the correct code is:
    #content_2pad a: link, #content_2pad a: visited

    But I wrote:
    #content_2pad a: link, a: visited

  • Dreamweaver cs3 - CSS not made when opening pages - please help!

    I use Dreamweaver CS3 and have built a certain (low) sites previously so not a perfect beginner, but am totally thrown by my CSS does render does not correctly in a new site I am building.

    I've implemented a new model, all work very well, full CSS included, noticed in the browser ok.

    Then created 2 new pages from this model "Aug.html" and "Oct.html" and recorded the two - both pages contain a link to the other and both preview in the browser on their own.

    However when I click on the link on the page is, not moving no matter what page I start with, the result is the same, the new page that opens seems to forget half of the CSS, div completely and links are back to blue and underlined, everything is changed as if there is no CSS at all.

    Why does the CSS work here? I've never had this problem before, the CSS is simple, I have about 6 div contains everything, including a #wrapper. the body tags and one: links preview all fine until I click and the new page that opens loses its CSS. There is no accessibility / compatibility or upcoming issues.

    Please help - have tried a lot of different things, now I'm completely lost! I know it must be simple, but I really can't find a reason why, really need help with this.

    Thank you...

    You need to refer to what happens when you PREVIEW a page in DW, is - that correct?  In other words, get you an overview of the page, click on the link to page B and page B will appear without the CSS - correct?  Here's why-

    Your link to the style sheet is a link to the ROOT (see the first "/"?).  When loading the B page after clicking on the link in the first page, it tells the browser to find the style sheet to "C:/2012LG_CSS.css" because the browser has NO idea where the root of the site DW is and assumes that the root in the link refers to the root of the hard drive.  Normally, you would not use relative links root, unless there is a good reason to do so-in your case, I am sure that you do not have.  Edit this link to a document a relative, i.e.

    and things work much better.

    In General, it is not a good idea to click outside any page viewed when using DW.
