Although it is strange that the location of your documents is

C:\Users\Steve\Doc

Instead of

C:\Users\Steve\Documents

This result shows that the "My Documents" icon on your desktop is a shortcut and not the actual file with your documents. The icon on your desktop has a blue arrow, like this:

If you delete this icon, you should get a message like this:

As long as the 'shortcut' word is in the message "Are you sure", everything you delete is a shortcut and not your actual files... so go ahead and delete it. You can then create a new shortcut or just use the 'Documents' shortcut located on the start menu:

Think about it an absolute must - manually update your drivers.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/HT/driverdlmfgr.htm

Installation and update of drivers under Windows 7 (updated drivers manually using the methods
above is preferred so that the latest drivers from the manufacturer of system and device manufacturers are
found)
http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/43216-installing-updating-drivers-7-a.html

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows
Updates, that leaves about Windows updates but it will not install the drivers that will be generally
older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
get new manually if you wish.

It all started this afternoon when I noticed that my C drive was dangerously close full (like5gb spare part) while my D drive had 223 gb to spare, what I wanted instead of delete my D drive was to shrink down in size and then add the memory freed from my C drive (Ah if only things were that simple). What I found, was that I could use the system management tool to shrink the drive D, BUT I couldn't can simply transfer this memory via on drive C, then I returned to the D drive and thought that no more of it. I remember however clicking something "active partition" and there being a warning come on screen informing me that something like that could happen... Hi guy,

First of all, I have a good message for you: this is not a very serious matter and could be solved easily.
I guess you cannot start the advanced boot menu by pressing F8. Fix?
If this is not possible you need a Live example Windows PE or BartPE bootable CD
http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

Start the laptop using the Live CD will allow you to use the command prompt where you can run some commands to rebuild the Master Boot Record.
Using the prompt (like a black of BACK box) shows you should type this command:
Bootrec /RebuildBcdand then press ENTER.

Usually this should rebuild the master boot record of the hard drive and the laptop should start again the internal partition of C.

Now, when I do I get this: "Manager tasks has been disabled by the administrator." My PC is being used and I don't know anything about a previous administrator. How can I replace this message and return to the use of C + A + D? Or is there another trick to get out the programs that do not meet?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

If your system is at a standstill and you must use the Task Manager to kill a process, it is not normal and your system has a problem that you can solve.

If your task manager has been disabled (unless you have disabled it on purpose), then you certainly have another problem to accompany your first problem.

The usual advice along the lines of "something has been disabled in Group Policy" and that's probably true, but if you are using XP Home, is not Group Policy Editor in XP Home and which is not really you tell where to look in group policy, even if you run the Group Policy Editor. You need to know how to fix it.

Here is a complete solution that works for all versions of XP and requires no hunting around to find where things have been disabled in the Group Policy Editor. If you happened to have documentation for Group Policy registry locations, there is no hunting, but most people don't have documentation.

Unless you have disabled these tools on purpose, chances are good that your system has a malware infection. The malware knows what tools you use to try to find and remove, for the malware disables the things you are more likely to consume and prevents them from running if you can't find it.

All malicious software tools you currently use or have used failed to protect your system.

The malware will be happy you trick into thinking that you need to so something drastic to fix your system - as a facility repair, system restore point or a total reinstallation of XP. This is what it would be like you, but these measures are not necessary.

You must solve the immediate problem of the tools does not, then scan your system for malware when you are finished.

No matter what kind of malware you've used analytical tools, they are unlikely to solve this problem, because they cannot tell if the changes made to your system have been on purpose (you or an administrator who makes them) or some malware changed them, so the analysis tools will let these things alone (it's usually a good thing).

If your task manager is afflicted in this way, there are probably other things that also do not work - like the registry editor, System Restore and the command prompt, so fix them all at once even if you have not discovered they are broken again.

These commands from registry removes the registry entries that are stop opening programs. Although the registry entries do not exist, these commands are safe to run.

Before making any changes to your registry, back up the registry with this free and popular tool:

http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/ERUNT.html

Open Notepad to create a new text file:

Click Start, run and enter in the box:

notebook

Click OK to open a new Notepad file.

Copy and paste the following lines of text into the new Notepad file.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"DisableTaskMgr" = -.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"DisableRegistryTools" = -.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System]

"DisableCMD" = -.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem\\\]
"DisableTaskMgr" = -.
[HKEY_USERS\.default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"DisableTaskMgr" = -.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"DisableCAD" = DWORD: 00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore]
"DisableConfig" = -.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore]
"DisableSR" = -.

Save the new text file with extension .reg on your desktop or somewhere you can remember with a name you can remember, something like:

enableit.reg

After you save the file, close Notepad.

Locate the file enableit.reg on your desktop and double-click it.

Alternatively, you can right-click on the enableit.reg file, choose open with... and select the registry editor.

Answer in the affirmative to the question... Are you sure you want to add the information in the registry?

You should then see a message that information has been registered in the register.

If the registry editor has also been disabled, you will not be able to run registry changes to fix the rest of the problems, then you must first activate the command registry editor run. Even if the registry editor is not broken, these commands are safe to run.

Click Start, run and enter in the box (copy/paste would be safer) the following text:

Tracking Add HKCU/v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0

Click OK and answer Yes, if you are prompted with a message of crash.

Click Start, run and enter in the box (copy/paste would be safer) the following text:

Tracking Add HKLM/v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0

Click OK and answer Yes, if you are prompted with a message of crash.

Now that the registry editor has been enabled, you can run the enableit.reg file to troubleshoot issues.

Depending on the circumstances, your tools can work right away, but go ahead to avoid the question "did you restart your system?" later, and restart your system at the time of trial to be sure things work again.

Allow the tools in this way only solves the symptom of malware infection, but does not solve the real problem (the system is currently or has been infected by malware) so you're not quite done yet - your system might still be infected.

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs can solve any problems.

Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if you wish.

You can also delete the enableit.reg file when you are finished.

Do, or do not. There is no test.

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers community forum.

Can you tell us a bit more about what's going on just as the computer crashes? This than that when you use your computer to browse the Internet, or by running a program such as a game or office? He does it every time he's just sitting idle? Your computer is a laptop or a counter top and what is the make and model?

When it freezes, bring up the Task Manager and click the processes tab to see which processes are using most of the time CPU. What can tell you if a program or a particular process is the cause of freeze.

One of the main reasons for this type of behavior is a virus, spyware or malware. Run a full system scan on your computer with the help of a good virus scanner and spyware such as Microsoft OneCare: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm?s_cid=sah/?s_cid=sah or Trend Micro Housecall: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/.

Alternatively, you can run the System File Checker to see if you have corrupted system files:
To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
Click Start and type cmd in the box start the search.
Right click on cmd in the list programs, and then click Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue
At the command prompt, type the following line and press ENTER:
sfc/scannow
When the analysis is complete, test to see if the problem you are experiencing is resolved.

• How can I change the way users log on or not with Windows 7 (Ctrl > Alt > Delete login)

I want to press Ctrl > Alt > delete when I connect like in XP. But I can't figure out how. I have looked in Control Panel to user accounts, but there is no option like that for Windows 7.

> Sorry, I have not put this in question. Once you press Ctrl > Alt > delete, I want to have a window where you type your user name and password like XP. So first, you press Ctrl > Alt > remove and then type your user name, then the password. Thank you.

Original title: nothing just won't even ctrl alt del

When I start my laptop, windows 7, I think that 64 - bit and it starts normally but after a second, I can't click anything on my taskbar and I can click on the Start button but nothing in it. I can't right click on the toolbar to start the Task Manager or press ctrl shift esc. When I press ctrl alt del, it will take a few seconds to load then the screen will go black and say that the logon process failed disppay of safety and connection options when ctrl alt delete is pressed. When I click on one of the icons on my desktop, there was the circle of rotation as if his tent but then going to give up. The problem started a few days ago and I did a system restore to 2 days before it happened and it changed nothing. I have avast and found no virus and I had a legitimate registry cleaner/Fixer and ran both in safe mode and found about 360 registry errors and starts normally again and the same problem persists. If you need more information to help me I will give it to you.

• Shortcuts on the screen of welcome (Ctrl + Alt + Delete)

Hi all

First of all, I hope this is the right subforum - otherwise, feel free to suggest better alternatives or move (Mods/Admins).

So here's the deal:

My company has recently updated from XP Pro to Windows 7.

Since then, I had a big problem: I used to press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to open the Welcome screen (at least I was told it's called like that) and had a variety of shortcuts at hand to lock the computer, users of contactor, open Manager tasks etc.

On Win7, they seem to have disappeared - the buttons are still there and clickable, but just by pressing "T" will not open the task more for example Manager. (Pressing enter still works to lock the computer, but simply because it's the default selection).

I used these shortcuts a lot and would like to have them back.

Please do not try to suggest alternatives (Windows + L to lock, Ctrl + SHIFT + ESC key to taskmanager etc) - I know, but hate to use 5 different ones for simple tasks. I just want my old standards of return...

See you soon,.
