Custom for Windows shortcuts icons

First one thing I know icons are .ico and .png.
Supposedly, I can change the icon via the properties of a shortcut.
When I click on browse in the icon selection window and find my PNG or ICO I get this message:
" contains all of the icons." ( is the path of the location of the image I chose)
Windows, icons that work are in the SHELL32.dll file which made me think that I need to somehow make a dll?

So my question is how can I use images I created in the form of custom icons to my desktop shortcuts, files, and folders?
I know how to change a files, folders and shortcuts icons, but I can't get the windows collection of icons to work (from SHELL32.dll) and not my own.

Help me!

  • Programs for the shortcut icons on the desktop of the user different?

My adult son and I are two Admins on what is basically a computer. I try to keep a very clean desktop so that I can easily find any new DOCS or IE shortcuts.
We each have our own connections. He installed games with CD and when I connected and found new icons for its games on my desk, I deleted them. But then he told me that they had disappeared from HIS Office too, so we had to go out of the Recycle Bin.
What is the only way that Windows XP work? I had always thought that each user has been mainly in charge of their own office, so it makes no sense to me.

Everything you see on your screen is just a shortcut or icon of a folder on your system, and there is a folder on the desktop that applies to all users (everyone gets those) and another folder in the office that applies to all users for things that belong to them.

When certain things are installed, they ask if you want the new program will be available for all users or just the current user (logged).

If you install for all users, shortcuts and icons will settle in the all users desktop folder.

If you install for just you, shortcuts and icons will settle in your desktop folder.

What you see on your desktop, it's all desktop users folder and your desktop folder combined.

What your adult son sees on his desk, is the all users desktop folder and its combined desktop folder.

If you install and tell the facility to apply to all users, shortcuts and icons to put in the desktop folder for all users - everyone sees them.

If the installed program shortcuts and icons in the all users desktop folder (and each user sees) and if you remove if from your office, you are also removing the all users desktop folder, then they are removed for everyone.

What you see on your desktop being things just in a folder, you can navigate to your folder office and add/remove things from him, just like any other folder (and therefore cannot your adult son).

If you have access to all the users desktop folder and add/remove things that will affect all the folder on the desktop.

If your installed program does not require and has just put all the stuff in the all users desktop folder (so everyone sees them) and that you don't want to see such things, cut the shortcuts in the all users desktop folder and paste them into your grown son file and then only he will see them.

Don't forget - what you see on your screen are just shortcuts and icons in a folder (s) that you can manipulate using including cut, copy, and paste.

If you have a program in the start menu. All programs, (some other places as well), just: right-click | Send to | Desktop (create shortcut).

For a Web site, save in my favorites first. Then, just left-click on it and drag it to the desktop or the taskbar.

  • Icon for Windows Media Player in the taskbar

I changed the icon of the shortcut of Windows Media Player.  When I open Windows Media Player, I would like the icon in the taskbar to be the same icon for the shortcut.  How can I accomplish this?

    Windows 10.

As you can see in the video, I followed the 'instructions' perfectly exactly, but clicking on the newly pinned icon translates into an 'extra' icon (the icon of Windows Media Player).  Of course, the pinned custom icon remains, of course, but another appears.  And it happens the same on all operating systems that allow pinning to taskbar (7, 8, 8.1 and 10.) If you can show otherwise I'll PayPal payment for your trouble.

  • Sizes of icons for Windows 7

My application is running in Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and I use LabWindows/CVI 10.0.1. I created an icon file in the editor of icons included. I kept the size 32 x 32 and 16 x 16 default and added 48 x 48 and 256 x 256, all with 32-bit color versions. I put the settings of the target to use this new icon.

When I look at the folder containing the executable file of my application in Windows Explorer and go through the different methods of the folder view, not all sizes of the icon. Picture 16 x 16 is used for views list and details, and I increase the size of icons versions of 32 x 32 and 48 x 48 seem to kick. Then, when the size of the icons gets in the Middle, I see LabWindows/CVI default icon (the one that looks like a window with the symbol "cvi" inside). As I do even bigger icons, possibly version 256 x 256 of my custom icon takes over.

MSDN seems to say that these three dimensions are all necessary sizes for Windows 7. How can I replace the application icon "cvi" default for all sizes? Is it necessary to use a different icon editor to create a few different sizes of icon image?

    Thank you

    Brian

What is probably happening is that your icon cache is corrupt. Searching online, I found different ways to solve this problem and none of them 'official' Microsoft, so I hesitate to recommend a way to rebuild your icon cache. However, I have to solve this was delete C:\Users\\AppData\Local\IconCache.db and restart my system. The IconCache.db was rebuilt and the correct icon shows for larger sizes rather than the default. It seems that the first icon, you display the size large/XLarge remains stuck in the IconCache. For example, I changed my icon before the consultation at a larger size (never seen the CVI icon) and the icon I used was the one stuck to the size large/XLarge. I don't think it will be a problem on a target system because you will not modify the icon we that you distribute the application.

It's not not clear to me, if there is a problem with a Windows bug (I saw similar reports on various forums, but nothing official), with our editor icons, or how ICB home icons from executables. I filed bug 354481 to investigate this issue report.

  • Shortcut that replicates the button sleep for Windows Tablet 8.1

I am trying to create a shortcut icon on a Windows 8.1 tablet that does the following.  I hope someone with knowledge of Microsoft can answer definitively.

It must accurately reproduce the function being called when I quickly press the power button on the side of the tablet. What do I mean by that?  I mean that when I push the power button.  The Tablet goes into a State of "sleep".  If the button is pushed once again, or the menu button 'Start' then the Tablet refers to the lock screen.  I currently have a Toshiba Encore 2, but I am aware of postings on the internet that others have different tablets like Dell coming Pro.

Because someone will suggest.  There is a particular reason, I want to avoid the power button.  These tablets seem to have a very small, delicate, poorly designed power button that slides out of the internal contact.  I'm afraid that the button won't survive the abuse of my children, so I'll try to give them a soft touch.  The goal is to reduce the time they need the physical button.

I've been around the internet on this.  I want to clarify things that DO NOT WORK on THIS TABLET.   In addition, nothing is 'evil' with the tablet.  This is something that is not well documented, or is not possible on Windows 8/8.1 Microsoft

    1. it DOES NOT WORK: Rundll32.exe powrprof.dll, SetSuspendState - it hibernates the tablet. What I'm looking for.

    2. it DOES NOT WORK: Rundll32.exe powrprof.dll, SetSuspendState sleep - this also extended to the tablet. What I'm looking for.

    3. it DOES NOT WORK: Rundll32.exe powrprof.dll, SetSuspendState 0,1,0 - this also extended to the tablet. What I'm looking for.

4 powercfg-h off failover makes 1-3 doesn't DO NOTHING, don't sleep reported, suggested, documented

    5. in the course of running powercfg /a reports that s1 - s3 sleep and hybrid are not supported "when connected standby is supported.

    6. I don't want a solution consisting in autohotkey - I'm looking for a management system dll that can be called from a shortcut without having to install a utility

    7. it would seem that the bios/firmware that supports connected disabled standby mode options 1-3 + 4 as viable

    8. the shortcuts are not what I'm looking for on a tablet like win - x or alt - f4 - I am aware of these and how they work

    9. I know that I can get to sleep using the power icon in the menu of charms.  In fact, this icon works in the way, I'm looking, but is less convenient that just touching an icon in the start menu.

I guess what I'm looking for is.

    1. explanation of this sleep mode, I want to talk to (is it connected standby?)
2 clarification about whether this "standby" is accessible via a dll or another system call which can be shortened would be - of course there is a system call because the charms of power icon is accessed.

Thank you for any input constructive or educational.

The closest I could find is to create a vbs script and save it > create a shortcut to the vbs script

    Dim ObjShell
    Set objShell = CreateObject
    objShell.ShutdownWindows
    Set objShell = nothing
    Set WshShell = CreateObject ("WScript.Shell")
    With objShell
    WScript.Sleep 200
    WshShell.AppActivate "closing Windows.
    WshShell.SendKeys "ss".
    WshShell.SendKeys "{TAB}".
    WshShell.SendKeys "{Enter}".
    Ends with
    Set objShell = Nothing

  • Shortcut on the desktop for Windows Defender

Hello. I have Windows 7 starter on my netbook and want to create a shortcut on the desktop for Windows Defender. However, it does not appear as a program in the start menu and the option to display the control panel more big or small icons is greyed out (i.e., not available in starter edition), I don't see the program on the control panel or the other. The only way I can get to it is to type in 'Defender' in the search field in the start menu or the search field on the control panel. Although one of these actions will locate Windows Defender, they do not provide me the ability to create a shortcut for the application. I tried searching in Program Files on the C drive and found him, but did not know which file right-click on the folder to create a shortcut file. If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it.

Second, Windows Defender is updated analysis scheduled around 02:00 every morning, but my computer isn't on then, I expect to do a scan automatically the next day when I turned the computer back on. He did not do that and always displays the last analysis as being the manual I did the day before. Is it possible to get auto-start if it misses its slot 02,00 regular?

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

Thank you both for responding: I did click right and do drag the thing like that seemed simpler and it worked: thank you. Are you able to let me know how to get the Defender to make an auto scan when I turn on the computer if it misses its slot 02,00?

    Thank you.

  • Shortcut icons and desktop Windows 7 file to change default

The shortcut icons for the Office 2010 applications on my desktop and icons for office and acrobat files have re-established a kind of default icon.

Try to recreate the icon cache and restarting didn't work.

The Microsoft fix - it rearranged only the icons without restoring the good.

Attempt to right click and reset the program that should open with the files does not change the icons back to normal

    Can someone tell me please:

    (1) how do I create/get a new set of icons

    (2) where should I copy this set of icons to

    (3) how to ensure that Windows 7 is directed to the exact location of these icons AND use them

I'm ok with changes to the registry, if I have to.
